After finishing his studies each day, Chu Yi would eagerly rush to play with Little Lucky Star.
Little Lucky Star was now crawling faster than ever, able to zip from one side of the room to the other in a flash. Sometimes, Chu Yi couldn’t even keep up.
Fortunately, the nursery was spacious and wide, and Shen Jin had long ago laid down soft tatami mats across the floor. Little Lucky Star could crawl around freely and happily on them.
Chu Yi sat nearby, watching Little Lucky Star. He marveled at how such a small child could have so much energy, crawling tirelessly without a hint of fatigue.
Chu Yi, on the other hand, was already exhausted. He sat on the mat, panting, and looked at Little Lucky Star. “Daddy can’t crawl anymore,” he said. “You go ahead and play by yourself.”
*It seems playing with a toddler requires stamina too,* he thought.
Little Lucky Star gazed at his Little Dad with a puzzled expression, not understanding why he had stopped playing.
Still unable to speak, Little Lucky Star babbled loudly, as if urging his Little Dad to play with him a little longer.
Chu Yi looked at Little Lucky Star apologetically. “I’m sorry, Daddy really can’t crawl anymore. Can I rest for a bit?”
Little Lucky Star tilted his head and made a soft sound, as if he understood.
Little Lucky Star gathered his toys and placed them one by one in Chu Yi’s hands. Soon, a pile of toys surrounded Chu Yi, and Little Lucky Star sat beside his Little Dad, playing together with his Papa.
Chu Yi discovered that children’s toys were surprisingly fun. Little did he know that some of these toys had been bought by Shen Jin specifically for him.
With his Little Dad by his side, Little Lucky Star played with boundless joy.
Nanny Yue checked on them periodically, her heart warming at the sight of their shared happiness. She considered this the most comfortable family she had ever worked for.
The salary and benefits were excellent, with generous red envelopes during holidays. Moreover, the living arrangements and meals were top-notch. Little Lucky Star was both adorable and well-behaved, endearing himself to everyone he met.
Chu Yi glanced at the time. Little Lucky Star had been playing for quite a while and needed to drink some water.
He wiped the sweat from Little Lucky Star’s forehead and held him close as he offered him water.
Little Lucky Star showed little interest in the tasteless liquid. After a few sips, he turned his face away, refusing to drink more.
Chu Yi coaxed gently, “Little Lucky Star, you’ve been sweating so much. You need to drink more water. Just a few more sips, okay?”
Little Lucky Star seemed to understand his Little Dad’s words and reluctantly opened his mouth to take a few more sips of water.
After a few more sips, he babbled a long string of sounds, likely indicating he was full and didn’t want any more.
Chu Yi was charmed by his son’s antics and set the bottle aside. “Ha ha ha, okay, we won’t drink any more.”
Little Lucky Star babbled and patted the toy in front of him, which chimed and tinkled. He clearly loved the sound.
Chu Yi sat beside him, watching him play. He suddenly realized how quickly time had passed. It felt like just yesterday that Little Lucky Star was a soft, tiny bundle he was afraid to even hold. Now, in the blink of an eye, he was so big he could crawl faster than Chu Yi himself.
Suddenly, Little Lucky Star turned to look at Chu Yi and cooed twice. Before Chu Yi could understand what he meant, he caught a whiff of a foul odor.
Chu Yi immediately scooped up Little Lucky Star and rushed to the study.
“Honey, Little Lucky Star needs a diaper change!”
Shen Jin had been working from home for quite some time. Ever since Chu Yi had taken a leave of absence from school, Shen Jin had been staying home to be with him as much as possible. Unless there was an absolutely critical matter, Shen Jin worked from home.
Even meetings were conducted via video conference.
On the screen, Shen Jin’s face radiated authority. Even through the video call, his presence commanded the respect of the executives on the other end, who sat ramrod straight as if President Shen were right there in the room.
Just as the meeting reached its most solemn moment, a cheerful yet urgent voice burst in:
“Honey, Little Lucky Star needs a diaper change!”
The voice was unmistakably Chu Yi’s. Everyone in the conference room knew Chu Yi had brought Little Lucky Star. Some couldn’t help but wonder: *In such a serious setting, Chu Yi is actually asking President Shen to change a diaper? Can’t he do it himself? Is there no one else at home? Bothering President Shen for something so trivial—he must be annoyed.*
Shen Jin glanced at the camera. “Please wait a moment, everyone.” This time, however, a hint of amusement colored his voice.
He muted the microphone, stood up, and his figure disappeared from the frame. The executives exchanged bewildered glances, staring at the screen. *Did President Shen really just go to change a diaper?*
Less than five minutes later, Shen Jin reappeared on the screen, unmuting the microphone. “Let’s resume the meeting.”
Though President Shen remained serious, the atmosphere had noticeably lightened.
Less than five minutes into the meeting, the executives heard Chu Yi’s voice again: “Honey, hold Little Lucky Star for a moment. I’ll go make him a bottle.”
Chu Yi quickly handed Little Lucky Star to Shen Jin and dashed out. “Slow down, don’t trip!” Shen Jin called after him.
Shen Jin appeared on camera, cradling Little Lucky Star in his arms.
Little Lucky Star blinked his big, round eyes, clearly fascinated by the computer in front of Shen Jin. He reached out with his tiny hands, trying to grab it.
This was the first time the executives had seen President Shen’s son. Everyone agreed: Little Lucky Star looked remarkably like his father.
The baby was utterly adorable, his large eyes melting hearts with their innocent gaze. His babbling was soft and sweet.
Little Lucky Star excitedly crawled onto the table, reaching for the mouse—it looked like such a fun toy!
Shen Jin pulled him back. “Be good, Little Lucky Star. No touching the mouse.”
The executives had never heard President Shen speak in such a gentle tone.
At his father’s words, Little Lucky Star sat obediently, still as a button. Then his attention shifted to Shen Jin’s phone.
The baby snatched the phone and immediately began gnawing on it. With his new teeth, Little Lucky Star was always looking for something to chew on.
Shen Jin said softly, “Little Lucky Star doesn’t bite. The phone is dirty.”
Little Lucky Star turned to look at Shen Jin, as if understanding his father’s words, and indeed stopped biting. Then the executives watched as Little Lucky Star grabbed the phone and began banging it vigorously against the table, treating it like a toy.
The executives expected President Shen to tell Little Lucky Star to stop smashing the phone, but Shen Jin said nothing, his expression remaining unchanged. He let Little Lucky Star continue banging the phone as if it were just an ordinary toy. Little Lucky Star giggled excitedly, bouncing in his father’s arms.
Meanwhile, Chu Yi brought over the milk bottle.
Little Lucky Star’s eyes lit up instantly at the sight of the bottle. He threw the phone to the ground and reached for it.
Chu Yi tried to take Little Lucky Star, but the child clung to Shen Jin’s shirt, refusing to leave. He gazed longingly at his big dad, finding it much more fun here.
Shen Jin said, “I’ll feed him.”
Chu Yi knew Shen Jin was working, but he didn’t realize he was in a meeting. Just as he was about to speak, he heard voices coming from the computer. He glanced at the screen and realized Shen Jin was actually in a meeting!
He quickly whispered, “I’ll take Little Lucky Star out.” Had he been interrupting Shen Jin’s meeting all this time?
Shen Jin replied, “No need.”
Little Lucky Star was drinking his milk from the bottle in Shen Jin’s arms, taking big gulps. Though Shen Jin held the bottle, Little Lucky Star also clutched it with his own hands.
The executives were captivated by Little Lucky Star’s adorable sight. The way he held the bottle himself was simply too cute. How could President Shen’s child be so utterly charming?
Shen Jin raised his eyes. “Continue.”
President Shen’s voice snapped everyone back to attention, and the meeting resumed.
As Little Lucky Star finished his bottle, his eyelids grew heavy, as if his father’s voice and the droning from the computer were the perfect lullaby. With the last swallow, he drifted off to sleep in Shen Jin’s arms.
Shen Jin continued the meeting while holding Little Lucky Star.
Chu Yi sat on the nearby sofa. He had originally planned to take Little Lucky Star back to bed after he finished his milk, but he ended up falling asleep himself. He and Little Lucky Star had played so hard all afternoon that he was exhausted.
When the meeting concluded, Shen Jin instructed Nanny Yue to take Little Lucky Star to bed. He then carried Chu Yi back to their room to sleep.
By evening, when Chu Yi woke up, he felt groggy, with a headache and a general sense of discomfort.
Dr. Meng arrived at the villa promptly. Since Shen Jin’s recovery, his visits had become much less frequent.
After checking Chu Yi’s temperature, Dr. Meng confirmed he had no fever or cold—just heatstroke.
“Heatstroke?” Shen Jin’s brow furrowed deeply upon hearing that Chu Yi had suffered heatstroke.
Seeing his serious expression, Dr. Meng found it odd. This wasn’t the first time Chu Yi had experienced heatstroke, yet Shen Jin seemed unusually anxious this time.
After drinking some Huoxiang Zhengqi Water, Chu Yi felt much better.
Shen Jin remained by his side, deeply regretting that he had been so preoccupied with meetings that afternoon that he hadn’t noticed Chu Yi’s discomfort. He had simply assumed Chu Yi was asleep.
Shen Jin tenderly stroked Chu Yi’s cheek. “Still feeling unwell?”
Chu Yi blinked. “Much better. But I didn’t even go out in the sun today. How could I get heatstroke?”
Shen Jin didn’t reply. Although Chu Yi’s body appeared as before, the surgical scar on his abdomen had completely vanished, leaving no trace of the operation. After Little Lucky Star’s birth, Shen Jin and Uncle Wen had meticulously cared for Chu Yi, but his body remained somewhat weakened.
And now, he had suffered heatstroke right before Shen Jin’s eyes.
Shen Jin held Chu Yi’s hand, his gaze lowered, silent.
Sensing Shen Jin’s distress and knowing he was worried, Chu Yi tried to distract him. “Husband, I want ice cream.”
In this sweltering heat, Chu Yi lay in bed, craving nothing but ice cream.
Looking into Chu Yi’s eyes, Shen Jin nodded, much to Chu Yi’s delight. He hadn’t dared to hope for this, yet Shen Jin had actually agreed.
Chu Yi leaned back comfortably against the pillows, savoring each spoonful of ice cream as Shen Jin fed him.
But Shen Jin was feeding him too slowly, making Chu Yi impatient. “Hurry up! Or I’ll just eat it myself.”
Shen Jin gently pressed him back. “Lie still and be good.”
It took Shen Jin a full half-hour to feed Chu Yi a single carton of ice cream—the slowest Chu Yi had ever eaten.
Chu Yi, pushing his luck, asked, “Can I have another carton?”
“No,” Shen Jin replied, wiping Chu Yi’s mouth. “Uncle Wen asked what you’d like for dinner.”
Feeling unwell, Chu Yi had little appetite. “Anything is fine.”
Shen Jin knew that when Chu Yi said “anything is fine,” he really meant he didn’t want anything at all.
That evening, Shen Jin personally prepared a bowl of cold noodles.
The tangy, sweet broth instantly stimulated Chu Yi’s appetite, and he finished the entire bowl.
With his stomach full, Chu Yi’s spirits lifted.
Shen Jin made him promise, “From now on, if you feel unwell—whether it’s a headache, dizziness, or stomachache—you must tell me immediately, okay?”
Chu Yi’s heart softened. “Mm-hmm.”
