Chu Yi felt a pang of reluctance as he left the house, gazing at Little Lucky Star.
It wasn’t just Chu Yi who felt the separation; even Little Lucky Star seemed to understand that his Little Dad was leaving and that he wouldn’t see him for a long time. The child’s lips began to quiver, his eyes brimming with tears that threatened to spill over at any moment.
If Little Lucky Star was on the verge of tears, Chu Yi was even more affected. The corners of his eyes began to redden.
Shen Jin, standing nearby, immediately scooped Chu Yi into his arms and carried him away.
Seeing his Little Dad being carried off by his Big Dad, Little Lucky Star’s lips trembled, and he was about to burst into tears. Uncle Wen quickly intervened, coaxing, “Don’t cry, Little Lucky Star. How about we go ride the big horse?”
Little Lucky Star blinked, forgetting his tears, and wrapped his arms around Uncle Wen’s neck, cooing happily as he went off to play with Grandpa Wen.
Shen Jin carried Chu Yi to the car.
Noticing his red-rimmed eyes, Shen Jin chuckled. “You look just like a kid about to go to kindergarten.”
Chu Yi glared at him, displeased.
Shen Jin quickly soothed him. “Alright, alright, let’s go to school now.”
With those words, Chu Yi’s mood brightened. Today was the first day of school.
After a year’s leave of absence, Chu Yi returned to campus and the classroom, feeling surprisingly nervous.
From a distance, he spotted Jiang Xu waiting for him at the school gate.
Yesterday, Jiang Xu had even called Chu Yi to confirm he was really coming to school today.
“Of course I am,” Chu Yi had replied. Jiang Xu then said he’d wait for him at the gate.
Before his leave, they often met at the gate and walked to class together.
Now, after a year apart, they were attending classes together again. Chu Yi and Jiang Xu couldn’t deny their excitement. The year apart hadn’t created any sense of estrangement between them.
They embraced warmly, having long since disregarded their families’ warnings.
Chu Yi glanced back and saw Shen Jin raise an eyebrow at him. Shen Jin smiled helplessly, waved, and got into the car.
Chu Yi was well-liked in his class. As he entered the classroom, his classmates greeted him warmly.
“Great! We’re classmates again.”
“It’s so good to see you.”
Even the professor exclaimed in surprise when he saw Chu Yi, “Chu Yi’s back! Welcome, welcome! You look even better than before, after a year away.”
Returning to school felt incredibly familiar to Chu Yi, as if nothing had changed.
The cafeteria also felt warmly familiar.
Chu Yi noticed many unfamiliar faces around campus, finally realizing he was now a third-year student, with two new classes of freshmen having joined the school.
Perhaps because Chu Yi looked so young, some students mistook him for a freshman. They approached him to introduce themselves, ask for his contact information, and even ask if he was alone and if they could sit with him.
When Jiang Xu arrived with his tray, the boy glanced at Jiang Xu before leaving.
Jiang Xu grumbled, “Some people just don’t know when to quit.” He couldn’t believe anyone would dare hit on Chu Yi, who was married with a child. Lately, people had been approaching Chu Yi constantly.
Chu Yi grinned mischievously. “That junior was actually asking about you. He wanted to get to know you.”
“Huh?” Jiang Xu exclaimed.
Chu Yi nodded calmly. “It’s true. He just asked me for your contact information.”
Jiang Xu quickly said, “Don’t tell Zhou Huaixiao!”
“Don’t worry,” Chu Yi assured him. “I definitely won’t.”
He thought Shen Jin was already jealous enough, but he hadn’t realized Zhou Huaixiao was just as possessive.
Despite missing a year of classes, Chu Yi hadn’t fallen behind at all. He could keep up with all his courses effortlessly.
Although he had taken a year off, Chu Yi quickly reintegrated into university life.
Of course, he also encountered some challenges. He was too popular at school. Some suitors gave up after being rejected, but others were remarkably persistent. Even after Chu Yi rejected them and explained he was married, they dismissed it as a mere excuse and refused to believe him.
On his way home, Chu Yi muttered, “I’ve made it so clear, yet they still won’t believe me. Are all the younger students this persistent these days?”
Shen Jin watched him thoughtfully.
As Chu Yi spoke, he and Little Lucky Star were each eating a banana.
Their eating habits were remarkably similar, and Chu Yi looked every bit like Little Lucky Star’s older brother.
Chu Yi was young, sunny, handsome, and beautiful—who wouldn’t like someone like that?
Midway through his snack, Little Lucky Star dropped his banana on the floor. As he reached to pick it up, Chu Yi quickly scooped it up and tossed it in the trash. “We don’t eat that one,” he said. “We eat clean ones.”
Chu Yi handed Little Lucky Star a fresh banana, and the boy settled back onto Chu Yi’s lap, happily munching away.
Shen Jin took a tissue and wiped Chu Yi’s hands, which were sticky from handling the bananas. Chu Yi was always so attentive to Little Lucky Star, but he never seemed to take care of himself.
The next day, Shen Jin dressed in the suit Chu Yi had once said looked best on him. He also dressed Little Lucky Star in his finest clothes before carrying him out the door.
“Shall we go pick up Little Dad together today?” Shen Jin asked Little Lucky Star.
Little Lucky Star shouted excitedly, “Baba!”
He could already say “Daddy.”
Shen Jin said, “Let’s make sure those people don’t dare chase after Little Dad anymore today, okay?”
Little Lucky Star gurgled, “Ya ya!”
Shen Jin held Little Lucky Star close. “Let’s go to school now.”
“Ya ya!” Little Lucky Star cried out excitedly, likely sensing he was about to see Little Dad soon and feeling happy.
Shen Jin placed Little Lucky Star in his car seat and drove to Lan University.
Recently, a junior had been pursuing Chu Yi relentlessly. Even after Chu Yi told him he was married, the junior refused to believe it.
Whether he’d watched too many dramas or read too many novels, the junior insisted on winning Chu Yi over. He was convinced that if he persisted, Chu Yi would eventually fall for him.
Chu Yi had just stepped out of the teaching building when his persistent junior appeared, holding a cup of milk tea—Chu Yi’s favorite flavor—as if he’d somehow learned his preference.
Chu Yi’s head began to ache at the sight of the junior. “Junior, I’ve told you several times already, I’m really married.”
“Impossible!” the junior insisted. “You don’t look married at all.”
“Just because I don’t look married doesn’t mean I’m not,” Chu Yi retorted. “I’m not only married, but I also have a child. My son is almost a year old.”
The junior student sized Chu Yi up and down. “I don’t believe you,” he said. “Not unless I see your husband right now.”
Chu Yi blinked. This was one stubborn junior student—completely unyielding. He was considering whether to call Shen Jin and ask him to come pick him up.
Seeing Chu Yi’s silence, the junior student assumed his guess was correct. “So, you were lying to me, weren’t you? You don’t have a husband at all.”
Chu Yi: ……
As they were talking, a luxury car pulled up beside them.
After the car stopped, a man hopped out and jogged around to open the rear door. A man emerged, cradling a baby in his arms. He strode straight toward Chu Yi. “Honey, we’re here to take you home.”
The junior student stood frozen, his eyes wide with shock. “Who’s he calling ‘honey’? Who are you married to?”
Chu Yi smiled and looped his arm through Shen Jin’s. “This is my husband,” he said, introducing them to the junior student. “And this is our son.”
Little Lucky Star, nestled in Shen Jin’s arms, called out, “Daddy, Daddy!” He reached out his tiny hands toward Chu Yi, clearly very attached to him.
The junior student was completely dumbfounded. The man had called Chu Yi “honey,” and the baby had called him “Daddy.” Chu Yi hadn’t been lying after all—he really was married and even had a child. The baby’s smile even resembled Chu Yi’s.
He glanced at the man and the baby. The man was tall, handsome, and dashing, while the baby was both adorable and charming. The junior realized he had absolutely no chance.
Deeply disheartened, the junior hung his head and shuffled away.
Chu Yi sighed in relief, hoping the junior would believe him and leave him alone.
Chu Yi looked at Shen Jin with surprise and delight. “What are you doing here?”
It wasn’t surprising that Shen Jin had come to pick him up, but Chu Yi was overjoyed that Shen Jin had brought Little Lucky Star along.
Shen Jin grinned. “Of course I’m here to pick up my wife. I heard my wife is too popular at school, so I had to bring our son along. What if someone tries to steal my wife away?”
Chu Yi rolled his eyes. “Stop teasing me.”
Several students nearby had witnessed the entire scene.
“So Chu Yi really is married! His husband is so handsome, and their son is absolutely adorable.”
“I told you guys! Chu Yi even took a year off school to have the baby.”
“But if he took a year off, shouldn’t he be a sophomore now? Why is he a junior?”
“Because Chu Yi is brilliant! Even with a year off, he can still graduate on time if he earns enough credits. We ordinary people could never manage that.”
Amidst the murmurs of admiration and envy, the family of three got into the car and drove home.
The next day, Chu Yi ran into the junior again on campus. He raised an eyebrow, wondering if the junior still didn’t believe him.
As Chu Yi pondered, the junior rushed up to him, looked him in the eye, and sincerely apologized, “Chu Yi-xuezhang, I’m sorry for bothering you before. I promise I won’t bother you again. I wish you and your family happiness.”
The junior had finally given up. Chu Yi let out a sigh of relief and smiled, “Thank you. I wish you happiness too.”
“Thank you, Xuezhang. Goodbye,” the junior said before scurrying away. It would be a lie to say he wasn’t heartbroken; he had spent the entire night grieving. But Chu Yi was already married, and no amount of longing could change that.
Having come to terms with this, the junior had come early to apologize.
Watching the junior’s retreating figure, Jiang Xu approached and patted Chu Yi on the shoulder. “That junior finally came to his senses, huh?” Many had pursued Chu Yi, but this one had been the most persistent.
Jiang Xu had also heard about Shen Jin picking Chu Yi up from school the previous day. Everyone was saying Chu Yi’s husband was incredibly handsome, and their son was just as striking. Anyone who had seen Shen Jin knew they stood no chance against him.
Jiang Xu glanced at Chu Yi. When Chu Yi had raised his eyebrow earlier, his expression had really resembled Shen Jin’s.
