DSMC Chapter 89.2

Dr. Peng's Request (2) (Part 2)

Yan Jiyun finally freed his hands. Pointing at the hoop, he said, “Practicing ten or twenty times should be about enough. Baiyun, come on.”

Meng Changsheng wondered if he could choose to pretend he didn’t understand what the zookeeper was saying.

But thinking carefully, practicing running, jumping, pouncing, and fighting would be of great help to him too. When he was pouncing on the ball just now, he had already found the feeling of being a tiger and felt that he could soon act out “a fierce tiger descending the mountain.”

However, that bit of confidence and pride was quickly beaten back to its original shape by the zookeeper. He didn’t make it over on the first jump!

Why was it different from what he imagined? How did other tigers jump so easily?

Right, he had to control his strength.

Yan Jiyun trained the big white tiger player for nearly half an hour and increasingly found this person hard to teach. Watching him pounce onto the grass again and again, aside from patience and perseverance, he didn’t know what else to say. Perhaps being a feline also required a bit of talent?

While Meng Changsheng was working hard to train his sense of balance, Yan Jiyun lay on the grass and was about to fall asleep.

The system interface suddenly issued a voice prompt.

[Dr. Peng is currently under attack by animals. Please go to rescue him as soon as possible, otherwise the consequences will be unimaginable.]

Yan Jiyun: “……” Couldn’t they let him rest a bit longer?

He also didn’t know where Dr. Peng was or where he was being attacked.

He guessed that while doing the sample delivery task, Dr. Peng had probably already left the Elephant Zone, which was why he had stayed here to rest. Even if he went there, it might be for nothing and he might not find him.

This troublemaking NPC didn’t know what kind of mess he had gotten into again.

Yan Jiyun calmly got up from the grass, patted the grass scraps off his butt, and called out to the big white tiger, “Baiyun, let’s go. Time to patrol.”

Having already found his groove, Meng Changsheng felt he had improved again and immediately followed Yan Jiyun. He had seen news about zoos abusing tigers; maintaining a good relationship with the zookeeper was still very necessary.

The zoo was too big, and Yan Jiyun didn’t know Dr. Peng’s exact location, so he could only head over based on the information given earlier.

He mounted the bicycle again. The resting spot wasn’t far from the elephant area.

Along the way, he saw giraffes quietly staying in their own area. The animals here were fairly calm. Perhaps the riot had already passed and they had settled down.

Yan Jiyun guessed whether something had been mixed into their food in the afternoon, causing it to act up at a fixed time. That would be quite hard to pull off.

Who on earth had gone to such lengths to turn the zoo upside down?

He rode the bicycle unhurriedly, continuing to look for Dr. Peng. Sure enough, Dr. Peng was nowhere to be seen in the Elephant Zone.

Yan Jiyun began instructing the big white tiger, “Baiyun, listen for any particularly loud sounds around. I think I heard someone calling for help?”

Eager to help the keeper, Meng Changsheng focused his attention and indeed heard someone calling for help.

He let out a roar and led Yan Jiyun running toward another part of the zone.

He had been adapting to being a tiger all day. Now that he had adjusted, he was starting to slowly adapt to this special kind of hearing too.

He felt the zookeeper’s patrol task was basically being security for the animals, going wherever there was a problem. Since he had this talent, why not use it?

It was said that recently farming NPC favorability was quite popular. What if he accidentally maxed it out?

For this vague and illusory favorability, he also had to show off his talent. Anyway, thinking positively was right.

Yan Jiyun rode the bicycle following the big white tiger away from the Elephant Zone. Since he himself hadn’t heard the sound, it meant Dr. Peng’s location was beyond his hearing range, about a kilometer away.

The direction the big white tiger led him was correct. About five minutes later, he also heard the bustling noise.

It was extremely noisy, with all kinds of animal sounds.

At this moment, Yan Jiyun couldn’t guess which area’s “hornet’s nest” Dr. Peng had poked. His troublemaking ability was absolutely something only a male protagonist would have. Or, definitely the kind of treatment given to the female lead of a silly sweet romance drama.

Dr. Peng must be the protagonist of this instance. No doubt about it. If he guessed wrong, he would eat the system!

Yan Jiyun and the big white tiger soon saw Dr. Peng, who was about to get himself killed.

“Ahhhh! Xiao Jiang, come save me!”

“I’m about to be bitten to death by this zebra!”

“It hurts, it hurts, let go, don’t bite so hard!”

Yan Jiyun: “……”

Of course there were no horses in the zoo. Dr. Peng was currently being bitten on the right shoulder by a zebra. At first glance, the scene was both pitiful and ridiculous.

How Dr. Peng had managed to get the zebra to clamp onto his shoulder and refuse to let go was truly admirable.

Zebras were naturally quite unpredictable in temperament, and they were timid. When frightened, they tended to bite people and not let go, not to mention that they were now under some unknown influence and extremely irritable.

Dr. Peng really had been courting death. His shoulder, which was being bitten by the zebra, was bleeding continuously.

Yan Jiyun looked at the small animals watching around them but didn’t find the black panther. He didn’t know where it had gone. Had it not followed Dr. Peng?

An enraged zebra could kick a person to death with one blow, so he didn’t rashly rush forward.

He turned to the big white tiger. “Baiyun, go chase the zebra away.”

Meng Changsheng: “……” Why him? He wasn’t a zookeeper; he was also afraid of being kicked by a zebra.

But on second thought, he was a tiger now. Just scaring the zebra should be no big problem.

The big white tiger used the pouncing posture he had just practiced to accurately leap at the zebra. But although the zebra retreated, it didn’t loosen its grip and even dragged Dr. Peng several meters away!

Yan Jiyun also found it unbelievable. Even after being scared like that by the big white tiger, it still wouldn’t let go. He had no choice but to ask Dr. Peng, “Dr. Peng, is your case here?”

Dr. Peng’s shoulder began to seep blood, his face turned pale, and his voice started to tremble slightly. “It is, it is…. by the tree.”

Yan Jiyun turned around… and saw the new monkey king.

Monkeys again. Why were they everywhere? Truly haunting.

Yan Jiyun’s expression paused slightly. After he went to Monkey Zone during the day to save the little wolf, he had beaten up the now-former monkey king. He hadn’t expected that in just half a day, the dynasty would change.

The original monkey king had a patch of darker fur on its forehead. This new monkey king had normal-colored fur. It was squatting on a big rock, holding up a roll of gauze and showing off to them. It looked quite silly. Apparently the new monkey king was destined not to be a player. Anyone knew that raising a piece of white cloth meant surrender.

“Wait for me, I’ll go grab it back! You brought anesthetic needles, right?”

Dr. Peng nodded frantically. “Yes, yes!”

Yan Jiyun: “Hang on for a bit, don’t provoke the zebra. I’ll go get the case back.”

Dr. Peng nodded painfully, not wanting to say anything more.

Yan Jiyun found a stick nearby, called the big white tiger, and charged straight at the monkey troop. “Baiyun, scare the little monkeys from the side. I’ll deal with the monkey king.”

Meng Changsheng: “……” The zookeeper used him so smoothly, but why was there no favorability at all? The system didn’t even prompt anything. It seemed he still wasn’t working hard enough!

Oh well, anyway… charge!

The big white tiger rushed into the monkey group first to drive them away for Yan Jiyun. But as the saying went, the King of Hell was easy to meet, little devils were hard to deal with. These monkeys weren’t afraid of the big white tiger at all. One after another, they pounced onto its huge body, some scratching, some biting. The big white tiger was almost scared to death, wildly shaking its body.

Dragging the thick wooden stick in his hand, Yan Jiyun walked toward the monkey king.

The monkey king was still showing off to him, but when it saw Yan Jiyun raise the wooden stick in his hand, it screeched and jumped down from the rock, probably wanting to face Yan Jiyun head-on, because it was still holding a stone in its hand!

This monkey king had enough combat power and courage, but its intelligence was a bit lacking.

When it charged at Yan Jiyun, it forgot that in its other paw it was still clutching a long strip of gauze that had unraveled. Before it even reached Yan Jiyun, it tripped over the overly long gauze, rolled on the ground, and rolled to a spot not far from Yan Jiyun.

Yan Jiyun held back his laughter. Seizing the opportunity, he stepped forward and pressed the monkey king to the ground with the stick. It had come too easily.

The new monkey king hadn’t even had time to show off before being pinned to the ground by the zookeeper, completely losing face. It screeched wildly, extremely indignant.

Yan Jiyun held it down and shouted to the monkeys surrounding the big white tiger, “All of you stop. Do you still want to eat bananas tomorrow or not?”

The little monkeys looked at each other and, without prior agreement, all climbed down from the big white tiger.

They were easy to threaten, but the monkey king was still baring its teeth at Yan Jiyun. Although it wasn’t the older monkey king from earlier in the day, Yan Jiyun still remembered it. This monkey had thrown stones the hardest. This kind of vicious monkey still needed to be taught a lesson.

Yan Jiyun directly tied it up with the gauze. The monkey king was in a manic state, overly excited mentally, wanting to attack anyone it saw. It wasn’t easy to bind. While struggling wildly, it almost poked Yan Jiyun in the face, but fortunately it was tied up without serious danger.

He carried the 40-something kg monkey and the medical case to the doctor. The big white tiger was now Yan Jiyun’s bodyguard, standing nearby to keep other animals from approaching.

Not far away there were also several zebras and two giraffes with shaking heads. Every single one of them was in an abnormal mental state.

Dr. Peng had lost a lot of blood from his shoulder and was about to pass out.

Yan Jiyun said the line commonly heard in TV dramas, “Dr. Peng, hold on. Quickly tell me where the anesthetic needles are.”

Dr. Peng said weakly, “On the very bottom layer. I thought I wouldn’t need them, so I didn’t put them on top.”

As Yan Jiyun rummaged through the case, he complained inwardly: ‘With your ‘heartthrob to all’ constitution, you still wouldn’t need them? What were you thinking?’

The zebra was still somewhat frenzied, staring fixedly at Yan Jiyun. It wanted to back away, but behind it was a big white tiger.

Following Dr. Peng’s instructions, Yan Jiyun took out the anesthetic needle. “What next? Where do I inject it?”

Dr. Peng gave a bitter smile. “I’d rather you inject my shoulder. Being bitten hurts too much.”

Yan Jiyun: “If you’re afraid of pain, then quickly tell me where on the zebra to jab it?”

He was really afraid the zebra would jump. If it bounced again, Dr. Peng’s shoulder would probably be done for.

Dr. Peng said, “The neck. Be quick.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Yan Jiyun raised his hand and jabbed the syringe into the zebra’s neck.

The zebra had been moving its legs the whole time; otherwise Dr. Peng’s shoulder wouldn’t have kept bleeding. After the anesthetic was injected, it wasn’t long before the zebra collapsed with a thud. However, its mouth was still clamped on Dr. Peng’s shoulder. Yan Jiyun quickly pried its mouth open, freeing Dr. Peng’s numbed shoulder.

Dr. Peng said, “Xiao Jiang, there’s hydrogen peroxide for cleaning wounds in the medical case. Hand it to me.”

Yan Jiyun handed him the hydrogen peroxide, not expecting Dr. Peng to be so ruthless to himself. He directly poured it onto the wound, using up more than half the bottle at once.

Yan Jiyun was almost dumbfounded. Dr. Peng was truly a man among men.

At this moment, he couldn’t help thinking of his pooper-scooper. If he got hurt, wouldn’t he also be this ruthless to himself? Just thinking about it looked painful.

Of course, if he himself got hurt, he would have to do it this way too, because he had to survive.

Dr. Peng, his face deathly pale, said again, “Just bind it up with gauze.”

Yan Jiyun bound the remaining half of the gauze that the monkeys had played with onto Dr. Peng’s shoulder. “Dr. Peng, my technique isn’t very professional, but it should temporarily stop the bleeding. I’ll take you back to the infirmary right away to find a hospital to properly clean the wound. Zebra teeth definitely have a lot of bacteria; you need further treatment. You know better than I do the consequences of not treating it in time.”

Dr. Peng’s face was pale, his lips completely bloodless. He was one eye-roll away from passing out. Weakly, he said, “It’s fine. First help me draw blood from this monkey king, then send me back to the infirmary.”

Yan Jiyun still drew blood from the monkey king as he said. At first he really couldn’t bring himself to do it, until he saw the monkey king baring its teeth and trying to bite him. He had the big white tiger press the monkey king down with its paws, then accurately jabbed the syringe into its vein.

The monkey king, who had been glorious for only half a day: “……”

A tube of blood belonging to the manic monkey king was collected into the medical case. Dr. Peng, barely able to sit upright, began to feel dizzy. With his last bit of strength, he grabbed Yan Jiyun’s hand and said weakly, “Xiao Jiang, you must help me draw blood from the black panther, the South China tiger, Caesar, and other large animals.”

“Xiao Jiang, I’m counting on you—”

[Player has triggered a side mission: “Dr. Peng’s Request (2)”.]

[Mission Details: Before 5 AM, collect blood samples from large animals such as the black panther, South China tiger, lion, wolf king, gorilla, brown bear, etc., and deliver the blood samples to the laboratory. Player, do your best~]

Yan Jiyun: “……”

‘Damn it, if I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have saved this troublesome Dr. Peng!’

    Thanks for the update! ❤️

I always laugh when books/movies treat anesthesia as a stunning spell: the animal gets hit, they might stagger a few steps then they faint. Proper dosage, the long, long minutes it takes for it to properly take effect or the fact that the animals will become more frenzied after being attacked never seem to exist.
