The day Chu Yi was discharged from the hospital, it was snowing outside.
Snowflakes danced in the air, a moderate snowfall.
Chu Yi stood on the balcony, admiring the snow, when Shen Jin pulled him back into the room and closed the door.
“I looked away for a moment, and you ran out to the balcony to watch the snow. What if you catch a cold? You can’t afford to get chilled right now.”
The room was warm, and Chu Yi dismissed his concern. “I won’t. It’s so cozy in here.”
Shen Jin pinched his fingertips—they were warm, not cold.
He pulled Chu Yi onto the bed, helped him put on his shoes, and prepared to take him home.
Chu Yi was overjoyed to finally be going home. Although the hospital room had been luxurious and comfortable, it was still a hospital. He had always longed to return home, where he felt most at ease.
After putting on his shoes, Shen Jin helped Chu Yi into a down jacket. The moment Chu Yi slipped it on, he felt a warm, cozy sensation. It was clearly a new jacket, perfectly tailored to fit him.
Since giving birth to Little Lucky Star, Chu Yi’s figure had almost completely returned to its pre-pregnancy state. His stomach was flat, making it hard to believe he had just given birth.
After putting on his down jacket, Shen Jin wrapped a scarf around Chu Yi’s neck to keep the wind from getting in. Knowing Chu Yi liked to look nice, Shen Jin arranged the scarf in a stylish way.
A hat was also essential, and with a mask, only Chu Yi’s eyes were visible.
Even his hands were covered with thick gloves.
Chu Yi looked at himself, completely bundled up from head to toe, and couldn’t help but laugh. “Shen Jin, isn’t this a bit much?”
It was just a short walk; there was no need for such heavy armor. He wouldn’t get blown away.
Remembering how Chu Yi’s hands and feet always got cold in winter, Shen Jin couldn’t afford to be careless. “It’s not too much. This is just right.”
Chu Yi nodded obediently. “Okay.”
He glanced at Shen Jin, who was wearing only a thin black shirt and vest, seemingly impervious to the cold.
Despite being bundled up so warmly, Chu Yi didn’t walk out of the hospital himself. Instead, Shen Jin carried him in his arms.
Chu Yi wrapped his arms around Shen Jin’s neck and looked ahead. Uncle Wen was carrying Little Lucky Star, who had just finished eating and was sound asleep in his arms, looking utterly content. Little Lucky Star had a natural affinity for Uncle Wen.
Uncle Wen adored Little Lucky Star beyond words. Though he didn’t actually need glasses, he wore them whenever he looked at the child, his affection overflowing.
Chu Yi glanced down at himself, nestled in Shen Jin’s arms, feeling like a giant dumpling. “Aren’t you tired? I’m pretty heavy. Maybe I should walk myself.” During his pregnancy, Chu Yi had been nourished with all sorts of tonics and broths, often waking up in the middle of the night for snacks. He felt like he’d gained a lot of weight—the last time he weighed himself, he’d put on a full twelve pounds.
Shen Jin glanced down at him and chuckled softly.
Chu Yi, puzzled by the smile, pinched Shen Jin’s arm.
“What was that for?” Shen Jin asked.
“What are you laughing at?” Chu Yi retorted.
“Even if there were two more of you, I could still carry you all,” Shen Jin replied.
As Chu Yi giggled, he suddenly felt like he was forgetting something important. He pondered for a moment, just about to recall it when the Dean approached, interrupting his train of thought.
The Dean had personally come to see Chu Yi off upon his discharge from the hospital. Even so, the sight before him left him utterly stunned.
Everyone knew President Shen doted on his wife, but no one expected him to dote on him *this* much. Mr. Shen held Chu Yi tightly, as if cradling a priceless treasure. Even the nurses at the hospital spoke of Mr. Shen with undisguised envy.
From the hospital room to the car, Shen Jin carried Chu Yi the entire way, refusing to let him walk even a single step.
Back home, Chu Yi was eager to do one thing above all else: take a bath.
He had longed for a bath throughout his hospital stay, but Shen Jin had adamantly refused. No amount of pleading could sway him.
Each day, Shen Jin would only give him a quick sponge bath with warm water.
Finally, after Chu Yi’s relentless persistence and Shen Jin’s consultation with the doctor, Shen Jin relented, agreeing that Chu Yi could bathe once they were home, but only if Shen Jin bathed him himself.
Chu Yi would have agreed to anything just to bathe, let alone simply having Shen Jin wash him.
When Chu Yi entered the bathroom, the air was warm and humid. Shen Jin beckoned him over. “Come here.”
Shen Jin stood in a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, holding the showerhead. He had already adjusted the water temperature, and his shirt was slightly damp.
Chu Yi walked toward him through the misty steam.
Shen Jin helped Chu Yi undress, placing each garment neatly in the laundry basket beside them.
The bathroom was heated, so Chu Yi didn’t feel cold even without clothes.
To make bathing easier for Chu Yi, Shen Jin had specially prepared a chair for him to sit on.
After not bathing for over a week, Chu Yi was nearly at his limit. The warm water cascading over his body brought him unprecedented comfort, making every cell in his body feel joyous.
He let out a long, contented sigh. Shen Jin immediately tensed, thinking he was uncomfortable, but Chu Yi quickly clarified, “It feels so good.”
Shen Jin breathed a sigh of relief and thoroughly wet Chu Yi’s entire body. Chu Yi’s soul nearly soared with delight, his eyes closing in blissful contentment. Shen Jin knew these past few days had truly been miserable for his little one.
When it came time to wash Chu Yi’s hair, Shen Jin pulled out a special shampoo shield and placed it on Chu Yi’s head to keep soap and water out of his eyes.
Chu Yi glanced in the mirror at the sunflower-shaped shield. “How cute!”
Anticipating his next question, Shen Jin replied, “I bought one for Little Lucky Star too.”
Shen Jin gently massaged Chu Yi’s scalp, working up a rich lather. Chu Yi felt utterly relaxed.
The shampooing device worked perfectly, as promised—no foam or water dripped onto Chu Yi’s face.
Despite the steamy heat in the bathroom, Shen Jin hurried his movements, aiming to finish washing Chu Yi’s hair within ten minutes.
As the last of the bath foam rinsed away, Chu Yi let out another long, contented sigh.
Shen Jin, still fully clothed, inevitably got splashed with hot water, leaving several damp patches on his shirt and pants.
Once Chu Yi was thoroughly rinsed, Shen Jin immediately wrapped him in a large, soft, and highly absorbent bath towel.
After about a minute wrapped in the towel, Shen Jin used a smaller towel to carefully dry any remaining damp spots.
When the towel brushed against Chu Yi’s inner thigh, his face flushed. He murmured, “You don’t need to be so thorough.”
Shen Jin smiled, his eyes meeting Chu Yi’s. His gaze was clear and gentle, filled only with tenderness and concern, devoid of any desire.
After blow-drying Chu Yi’s hair, Shen Jin carried him to the bed, tucked him under the covers, and then helped him put on his pajamas and socks.
He cared for Chu Yi with the same gentle, meticulous patience he showed Little Lucky Star.
After putting on Chu Yi’s socks, Shen Jin patted his head. “Go on.”
Chu Yi smiled, saying nothing, but Shen Jin knew exactly what he wanted to do.
Chu Yi went to see Little Lucky Star and play with him.
Though he called it “playing,” Chu Yi could mostly just watch. Little Lucky Star spent most of his days sleeping, needing over ten hours of rest. Yet simply gazing at the sleeping infant filled Chu Yi with inexplicable joy.
Four nannies, carefully selected by Shen Jin and Uncle Wen through rigorous interviews, attended to Little Lucky Star. Each was highly professional and deeply committed, ensuring the baby received the best possible care.
From the moment Little Lucky Star arrived home, he was adored by everyone in the villa. Aunt Wu declared she had never seen such a beautiful baby, and many remarked on the striking resemblance between Little Lucky Star and Mr. Shen, especially their noses. Everyone agreed that when Little Lucky Star grew up, he would undoubtedly be as tall and handsome as Mr. Shen.
Being at home was far more comfortable than being in the hospital. Even Uncle Wen’s cooking tasted better. Uncle Wen took extra care with Chu Yi’s meals, simmering a bowl of soup for four hours to extract every last bit of nourishment, aiming to help Chu Yi recover his strength.
After returning home, Shen Jin became quite busy. After showering one evening, he went to check on Little Lucky Star.
Chu Yi, waiting for Shen Jin to return, asked, “Is Little Lucky Star asleep?”
Shen Jin showed him a photo. “This is a picture I just took of him sleeping.”
In the photo, Little Lucky Star was asleep, still holding up his tiny hand, his round cheeks rosy.
Chu Yi smiled. “He looks so peaceful.”
During their time in the hospital, Shen Jin had barely slept, only managing a few naps on the sofa or dozing off by Chu Yi’s bedside.
Chu Yi felt sorry for Shen Jin and urged him to come to bed and sleep with him, but Shen Jin refused, afraid of accidentally bumping Chu Yi’s wound.
As a result, Shen Jin hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in days. A closer look revealed bloodshot veins in his eyes.
Chu Yi urged him to get into bed and sleep immediately.
Shen Jin leaned in and kissed Chu Yi’s forehead. “You go to sleep first. I need to go to the study and take care of some work.”
After spending so many days at the hospital, Shen Jin had neglected his company duties. Now, the study was piled high with documents requiring his signature, and he needed to address them urgently.
Chu Yi: “Then I’ll wait for you to come back.”
Shen Jin: “Don’t wait for me. Just go to sleep. Be good.”
Shen Jin had a mountain of urgent tasks to handle. The documents Chen Ye brought over all required immediate attention. By the time he finished and Chen Ye came to collect the signed papers, two hours had passed.
When he returned to the bedroom, Chu Yi was already asleep.
Shen Jin quietly slipped into bed and pulled Chu Yi into his arms. Chu Yi stirred awake. “You’re back,” he murmured, his voice thick with sleepiness. He had been waiting for Shen Jin but had drifted off.
Chu Yi: “Are you done with work?”
Shen Jin: “All done.”
Chu Yi: “Then let’s go to sleep together.”
“Okay, let’s sleep.” Shen Jin hugged Chu Yi tighter. “Good night.”
For the first time in what felt like forever, they fell asleep in each other’s arms.
