Yan Jiang’s mind went completely blank as he took a helpless step backward.
By now, it was pitching black outside. The night-luminous pearls in the hall emitted a faint, cold glow, and a surge of black mist gathered behind Yan Jiang, silently shutting the door.
“What? Are you unwilling to pay off the debt for the Yan family?” Shi Xiao stepped closer to him.
With every step he took forward, Yan Jiang took a step back.
Until his back pressed against the wall, leaving him nowhere to hide as the Ghost King crowded over, trapping him in the corner. The imposing figure cast a heavy shadow, completely enveloping him.
“My Lord, I—”
The black mist instantly thickened, surging and swirling around the human and the ghost in a distinctly threatening manner.
Yan Jiang wanted to say something, but coming face-to-face with the Ghost King’s cold, scrutinizing gaze, he stammered, unable to force out the words.
Dozens of night-luminous pearls suddenly dimmed all at once. Within a few breaths, the hall plunged into pure darkness. Occasional flashes of skylight flickered beyond the window, intermittently casting pale, ghostly beams into the room.
In Yan Jiang’s field of vision, nothing remained except Shi Xiao’s pair of glowing red eyes; everywhere else was utter gloom, quiet to the point of being eerie.
Having been terrified before, whenever he found himself in such darkness now, he would uncontrollably recall scenes he never wished to remember. His heart pounded wildly in his chest, making his temples throb and buzz. He closed his eyes in evasion, yet in his ears, he hallucinated the vague, raspy cawing of ravens.
The Ghost King pressed his body closer, trapping the human almost entirely in his embrace. Lowering his head, his lips nearly touching the person’s cheek, he whispered in a low, slow, and soft voice, calling out, “Ah Fu…”
Yan Jiang’s body stiffened, his trembling growing even more pronounced.
An icy hand climbed onto his shoulder and slid up his neck like an underwater mollusk, greedily rubbing back and forth against his warm skin.
“If you are unwilling…”
The Ghost King’s voice changed; the low male voice gradually broke down, devolving into a terrifying pitch blended with countless shrill wails and cries. It reminded Yan Jiang of the night he first encountered a ghost; it was in just such extreme terror that he had heard this very voice.
The screams echoing from deep underground pierced his mind, making his sanity unstable, causing it to fluctuate and drift as a surge of deep sorrow welled up from the depths of his soul. A hint of moisture quietly seeped from Yan Jiang’s tightly closed eyes, though it was unclear whether it was from fear or the influence of the ghost’s power. Unconsciously, he huddled himself deeper into the corner.
Yet Shi Xiao forcefully dragged him back out, gripping his jaw to lift his head, using ghostly energy to force him to open his eyes.
—Behind the Ghost King, within the pitch-black darkness, hundreds of ravens had gathered unnoticed at an unknown moment. Whether perched or standing, they blended into the night without moving, their countless lifeless red eyes fixed on the human with an unnaturally cold gaze.
Yan Jiang could not even utter a scream.
Having lost nearly all capacity for thought, his body remained pinned to the spot, stiff and breathing rapidly with only his tears flowing all the more fiercely.
After a good while, his knees buckled and he collapsed to the ground, finally breaking down into audible sobs.
“My Lord, I was wrong, I’m willing… I’m willing.” Yan Jiang’s face was completely drained of color. Clutching the hem of the Ghost King’s robe with one hand and holding onto his lower leg with the other, he seemed to be begging for mercy, yet his actions bore a striking resemblance to someone acting spoiled.
He might be a bit slow, but he wasn’t stupid. He remembered all the crossed boundaries and overstepping actions the Ghost King had taken toward him in recent days. Although he couldn’t understand why, he had a rough idea of what this so-called “repaying the debt” would entail.
He was afraid of being toyed with by Shi Xiao, but he feared the evil power before his eyes even more.
Muttering incoherent apologies for quite some time, he finally felt the Ghost King bend down. His hands were pulled away and guided to wrap around the broad shoulders and back; then, his body lightened as he was lifted off the ground.
With just one arm, Shi Xiao scooped him up entirely, while his other hand gently patted Yan Jiang’s back, turning his head to press a satisfied kiss onto his earlobe.
“Ah Fu is so good.”
Light was restored to the hall, and the ravens from earlier had vanished without a trace at an unknown moment as if the darkness just now had been nothing more than an illusion. Yan Jiang buried his face in Shi Xiao’s shoulder, trying his best to suppress his sobs. He offered no resistance, allowing the other party to carry him into the bedroom and press him down onto the soft bed.
This was not their first kiss, but this time, the atmosphere felt exceptionally unfamiliar.
Shi Xiao tore away his mask of gentle pretense. His lips and tongue were no longer restrained or coaxing as before; instead, with newfound directness, he greedily and roughly licked into the human’s mouth, plundering wildly.
Rather than an intimate kiss, it felt more like an all-out assault. His icy body pinned the human against the bed, their hips pressed together and legs aligned, while his magnificent black robes became entangled with the other’s plain white coarse-cloth garments. From a distance, it looked as though a venomous snake were coiling its body around its prey, slowly constricting its hold.
As the kiss deepened, Shi Xiao’s normally even teeth gradually sharpened, pressing dangerously against the human’s lips; it was a vivid embodiment of the bloodthirsty malicious ghosts from folklore. Yan Jiang even had the illusion that in the very next second, the other party would bite down with force to drink his blood and feast on his flesh.
Unable to endure it, he let out a whimper.
His trembling fingers spread open and curled tightly in the empty air, grasping nothing, unsure of whom to call for help. Within a brief instant, they were captured again in Shi Xiao’s palm and pressed back down onto the mattress.
The kiss was fierce with tongue invading recklessly and stirring up wet, slick squelching sounds. Yan Jiang was forced to swallow their mingled saliva, but even more spilled from the corners of their joined lips, dripping down faster than he could gulp it in.
The ghost’s body was freezing cold, yet the atmosphere gradually grew hot and heavy.
With an attitude of absolute dominance, Shi Xiao loosely cupped his hand around Yan Jiang’s neck. Swept up in the passion of the kiss, he began to slowly move his hand downward, tracing back and forth over the collarbone in a teasing, ambiguous stroke with his thumb, carefully savoring the texture belonging solely to a living being.
His other hand slipped past the scholar’s wrist and reached into his sleeve, caressing upward inch by inch along the forearm.
He had been a ghost for far too many years, so long that he often forgot how warm a human body felt, and how soft human skin could be.
The air in Yan Jiang’s lungs was finally exhausted. Driven by the instinct of suffocation, he began to struggle weakly. His freshly washed feet, fair skin tinged with pink, kicked the bedsheets into disarray, leaving them in a tangle of creases. Only then did Shi Xiao press a heavy lick against the tip of his tongue before withdrawing the tongue that had been warmed slightly from being held in his mouth.
The bed curtains swayed without a breeze, slipping down from their hooks and cutting off half the cold glow of the luminous pearl. As a result, the dim residual light filtering through into the bed took on a warm hue, making the scene all the more seductive.
Yan Jiang was still flushed and breathing heavily when Shi Xiao lifted him by the back and settled him upright on his thighs.
“Are you scared?” He asked abruptly, his broad hand resting suggestively against the human’s lower back.
Yan Jiang shuddered, unconsciously biting his lower lip to stifle the cry for help that had nearly escaped his mouth.
It took him a long moment to answer, “…Yes.”
His voice sounded slightly distorted, whether from sobbing or simply because he was struggling to catch his breath.
Shi Xiao’s smile deepened even further. He thoroughly enjoyed this sensation of having a person completely under his control.
“Fear will do you no good.” Wearing his gentlest expression, he spoke the cruelest words. “Ah Fu already gave your word. If you go back on it now, you will only face even greater punishment.”
The tone was so doting that it sounded like an affectionate adult coaxing a child. Yet his hands showed not the slightest inclination to wait, tracing slowly along the human’s waist up to the collar, delighting in the trembling body beneath his touch. Then, at an agonizingly slow pace, he gracefully loosened the crossed lapels and reached inside.
A moment later, upon touching an unknown spot, the human’s waist suddenly tensed. He let out a soft, fleeting gasp of surprise, his hands frantically gripping the ghost’s arm in an instinctual effort to push him away.
“Hmm?”
Shi Xiao narrowed his eyes.
A thin veil of mist suddenly welled up in Yan Jiang’s distinct black-and-white eyes, pooling in his sockets without falling. He cast a pleading look at the Ghost King yet found not a single shred of room for negotiation. Even the hand encircling his waist tightened subtly with a note of warning, leaving him no choice but to close his eyes in despair.
After a long moment, he finally stopped resisting, his body trembling as he let go of his remaining strength. He felt the hand, which belonged to no living person, caressing wildly inside his clothes; he felt his collar loosened, pulled open, and the cold air hitting his thin chest.
In his entire life, he had never entertained inappropriate thoughts toward any member of the opposite sex, nor had he ever imagined a day would come when he would “voluntarily” become another male’s plaything on the bed.
The other party wasn’t even human.
Fear left his knees incapable of supporting his weight. He collapsed onto the Ghost King’s lap with his lower body pressed firmly against the other party’s intimate place in an overwhelmingly close embrace.
It was impossible to tell how much time had passed; after every inch of his body had been touched, the expected violent treatment did not continue. The Ghost King suddenly withdrew his hand, pulled Yan Jiang tight against his back once more, and leaned down to bury the tip of his nose in the human’s collarbone, taking a deep breath to inhale his scent.
“What are you so afraid of? I was only touching you.”
He chuckled, lightly patting the back of Yan Jiang’s head.
Having had his fill of the scent, he raised his head and sealed the human’s lips once more.
“Ah Fu, you smell so sweet.” Entangled in the kiss, his words of praise became damp and sticky.
Yan Jiang let out a stifled, sob-like hum, unable to reply.
His hair was pulled back from behind, forcing his head to tilt upward and opening his mouth wider to accommodate the intruder’s licking, sucking, and teasing.
It was not until the moon hung high in the sky that he felt the familiar warm current surging upward from his lower abdomen. The Ghost King’s overly nimble tongue coaxed it out and drew it into his mouth.
Yan Jiang suddenly realized this was the signal that it was over.
Losing the final support of his soul energy, his exhausted, terror-stricken body went completely limp, and he fell into a deep sleep, lying unconscious in the Ghost King’s embrace.
