In the end, POC’s creditors never caused any trouble. The company was very satisfied with Qin Qing’s performance and gave him a bonus of a few hundred yuan. After receiving his salary and bonus, Qin Qing used the money to buy gifts for Ji Lan, Qin Huaichuan, Qin Guangyuan, and Ji Mingtang respectively. For Ji Lan, a beautiful and delicate parasol. For Qin Huaichuan, a tie. For Qin Guangyuan, a set of chess. For Ji Mingtang, a fishing rod. The gifts were not expensive, but they suited each person’s tastes perfectly, making the elders smile from ear to ear. Although they had missed Qin Qing’s growing years, the joy of this companionship seemed not to have diminished at all.
Ji Lan and Qin Huaichuan, who used to regularly ask about Qin Zishi’s well-being, gradually stopped calling him as frequently. As a result, their relationship naturally grew distant. Feelings are indeed cultivated through interaction, but if one meets someone exceptionally likable, even thin feelings can quickly accumulate, warm up, and break through the critical point. Watching Qin Qing being beloved wherever he went, and thinking of the plot that had collapsed beyond recognition, 996 angrily flicked its tail.
Qin Qing seemed completely unaware of 996’s resentment. He opened a can of salmon and said gently, “I’m going to a meeting. Stay here quietly.”
996 buried its head in the can and devoured it greedily, its resentment unconsciously fading. Meow, Qin Qing was still pretty decent. Qin Qing picked up the documents on his desk and took the elevator to the top floor. After entering the conference room, he placed the documents on the table and went to the break room to brew two cups of hot coffee.
Seeing Xu Yizhi and Cang Ming walking into the conference room side by side, he immediately stood up and pulled out the chair beside him: “President Xu, please sit.”
Xu Yizhi sat down with a smile. As the boss, Cang Ming had no one to pull out a chair for him.
Qin Qing pushed a cup of coffee in front of Xu Yizhi: “President Xu, please have some.”
After sitting down, Cang Ming found nothing in front of him. Glancing at Cang Ming, who looked a little wronged but couldn’t say anything, Xu Yizhi covered his mouth with his hand and laughed silently. Since meeting this little flower, his life seemed to have become increasingly interesting.
“You have good instincts.” Xu Yizhi picked up his coffee, leaned toward Qin Qing, and said with a low laugh.
Qin Qing nodded, accepting the compliment without hesitation. But the colleagues sitting around them all wore strange expressions. Having eyes only for your direct superior and ignoring the big boss, was that considered good instincts? Was President Xu being sarcastic? Unfortunately, this junior employee was too dim to catch it.
Cang Ming opened a document and scanned it absently. Then he looked up at Qin Qing, his tone slightly unnatural: “Qin Qing, could you brew a cup of coffee for me?”
Qin Qing instinctively stood up, but caught sight of a chubby furball dashing into the conference room.
“Hurry up and brew the coffee, then spill it on Cang Ming’s lap. This is an important plot point.” 996 called out anxiously.
At the same time, Qin Zishi also entered the conference room, pulling out a chair and sitting across from Qin Qing. In the script, the coffee the original owner spilled scalded Cang Ming and also ruined his phone, causing the loss of some important data. This data couldn’t be recovered by repairing the phone, so Qin Zishi did everything he could to search for materials and piece the data back together. With this perseverance, he gained Cang Ming’s favor. Advancing the feelings between the destined couple was the most important task, so 996 had to rush over to remind him.
Qin Qing, who had already stood up, sat back down very naturally and said gently, “President Cang, brewing coffee is not within my job responsibilities. If you need it, you can ask your secretary.”
Although he had expected Qin Qing to go against the plot, 996 was still furious. Cang Ming silently looked at Xu Yizhi, who was drinking coffee. His expression shifted several times before finally settling on dissatisfaction. They were both superiors, so why did one get coffee and the other didn’t? Qin Qing understood his meaning but pretended not to. He calmly opened his documents and began reading seriously. He might as well have written “Don’t ask me” on his forehead. Cang Ming stared at his dark hair and took a deep breath. Why was he always being rejected every time they met? His dissatisfied gaze moved from Qin Qing to Xu Yizhi.
Xu Yizhi raised his coffee cup to hide his slightly raised lips, but his laughing, narrowed eyes ultimately revealed his amusement and pleasure. Everyone in the room noticed this scene. Some were shocked, some couldn’t understand, and others thought Qin Qing was playing hard to get. Qin Zishi, sitting across from them, looked away and smiled contemptuously. Qin Qing wanted to attract Cang Ming’s attention through rebellion, making Cang Ming realize how unique he was. Such tactics were simply too crude.
Qin Zishi stood up and said, “President Cang, I’ll brew coffee for you.”
“Thank you.” Cang Ming was still staring at Qin Qing’s lowered head as he replied flatly.
Coffee was quickly brought over by Qin Zishi. Only then did Qin Qing look up at the attendees. His clear eyes flickered, hiding a hint of guilt. As he scanned the room, he directly skipped over Cang Ming’s grim face, avoiding the possibility of eye contact. Even he felt a little embarrassed for treating the big boss this way. Noticing his guilt and awkwardness, Cang Ming’s gloomy mood inexplicably softened.
He looked at his assistant and asked, “Is everyone here?”
“The CFO hasn’t arrived yet. He said he needed to print some materials.” The assistant reported immediately.
With people still missing, Qin Qing picked up his coffee cup to take a sip when 996 suddenly darted out from under the table and smacked his arm with its paw. His already unsteady right hand couldn’t withstand such a sudden attack. The coffee cup flew up, sailed over Xu Yizhi, and landed with a clatter in front of Cang Ming. As it tipped over, it also knocked over Cang Ming’s coffee cup. Dark brown hot liquid spilled across the table in an instant. If Cang Ming hadn’t reacted quickly enough, grabbing his phone and sliding his chair back, he might have been scalded. But even so, the important document in front of him was already ruined. Drip, drip. The thick coffee dripped down the edge of the table, staining the expensive carpet. The table was a mess, and the conference room fell into an eerie silence. Qin Qing froze for a few seconds before quickly standing up to clean the coffee stains, but Xu Yizhi grabbed his wrist.
“Don’t get yourself dirty. Let the cleaners handle it.” He reminded him quietly.
Qin Qing nodded and withdrew his hand. Looking up at Cang Ming’s stern face, his heart tightened. His thin lips parted slightly, wanting to explain, but not knowing where to begin.
Just then, Qin Zishi, sitting across from him, suddenly said, “Brother, did you do that on purpose? Your cup flew quite far.”
Indeed, if it wasn’t intentional, how could a full cup of coffee fly past President Xu and land directly in front of President Cang? Everyone in the conference room began to speculate about Qin Qing’s motives. What was he doing? Deliberately angering President Cang? No, that couldn’t be. Doing so would bring him no benefit. Could he be trying to follow in Ms. Deng’s footsteps, using a spilled cup of coffee to hook a wealthy husband? With this thought, everyone’s eyes carried a hint of contempt.
Qin Qing sighed inwardly and asked, “President Cang, would you believe me if I said it was the cat?”
Cang Ming slowly walked to the edge of the coffee-stained table, his tone so cold it betrayed no emotion: “Where’s the cat?”
Qin Qing turned his head to look around, then realized that not only was 996 nowhere to be seen, but even if it were standing right on the podium, no one here could see it. His excuse was too ridiculous. Qin Qing shook his head, raised his hand, and covered his face with a helpless groan. Through the gaps between his slender, jade-like fingers, his skin could be seen turning from white to pink, radiating warmth. He was blushing because of his thoughtless words. Such an absurd explanation; who would believe it? President Cang would surely think this employee had a mental problem. At this thought, Qin Qing’s fair, translucent ears also turned red.
Hiding his face, he didn’t notice that Cang Ming and Xu Yizhi both lowered their eyes at the same time, hiding the hint of amusement deep within them. Qin Zishi picked up a pen and spun it quickly to cover his inner delight. The cat did it? How could Qin Qing even say that? Surely he didn’t think his answer was cute. What he didn’t know was that playing dumb, acting spoiled, pretending to be innocent- these cheap tricks would only disgust Cang Ming. Qin Zishi stared intently at Cang Ming, excitedly waiting for his reaction. But Cang Ming stood expressionless, making no move. What was he waiting for? Building up anger? Xu Yizhi stood up and silently placed his hand on Cang Ming’s shoulder. It was a warning, a restraint, to prevent Cang Ming from truly venting his anger on Qin Qing. Cang Ming turned his head, looked at Xu Yizhi’s hand on his shoulder, and slowly, coldly brushed it away.
He turned to Qin Qing, a faint ripple in his dark eyes, and asked calmly, “I believe you. So can you brew me a cup of coffee now?”
The conference room became even quieter than before. Overwhelmed with shame, Qin Qing looked up in disbelief. President Cang wasn’t angry? Did he really believe words that sounded so stupid to everyone else? Xu Yizhi was startled, his eyes quickly darkening. Then he chuckled and sat back down. Something was wrong with Cang Ming.
Cang Ming said to the assistant by the door, “Call the cleaners in to clean up.” His tone was flat and deep, but not as harsh as usual.
Having nearly been hit in the face by a cup of coffee, he wasn’t angry at all and had accepted that absurd excuse. A cat? Where was there a cat in the conference room? Everyone had different thoughts, but none dared to show contempt or disdain on their faces anymore. At this moment, they all silently realized a secret. In President Cang’s eyes, Qin Qing was different. He was treated with special indulgence. The pen Qin Zishi had been spinning flew out of his hand with a crisp sound. He quickly bent down to pick it up, hiding under the table, his face instantly twisted with rage. Why could Cang Ming turn and walk away when he himself had been drenched in champagne, yet now he was so lenient with Qin Qing? Why couldn’t he remain cold all the time?
Over on the other side, Qin Qing finally came back to his senses and said quickly, “President Cang, I’ll brew coffee for you right away and make a copy of the document. I’m very sorry about what just happened.”
“It’s fine. The CFO is still on his way. Go ahead.” Cang Ming waved his hand, his manner very gentle.
Qin Qing carefully observed his expression, confirming he really wasn’t angry, before leaving the conference room with a mix of relief and disbelief.
996 poked its head out from behind a potted plant and muttered angrily, “Meow, why is even the protagonist changing the plot? Meow, you’re forcing my hand. Don’t blame me for playing dirty next time.”
