The door was ajar as if it was waiting for them to enter, however it was impossible to see what was inside.
Once they were in the courtyard feeling relatively safe, everyone’s tense nerves started to relax. With this relaxing, the strength that had been supporting them immediately left the whole group.
Zhang Chao, who was wearing black-rimmed glasses, sat down on his butt like a puddle of soft mud: “Ah~ I can’t take it!”
The others could not support themselves and all sat down on the floor to rest.
Cheng Ming also fell to the floor, covering his chest and panted heavily.
Jia DaoZhang even laid down with his limbs spread out wide, not wanting to move even a single finger. He was already slightly older and naturally his stamina was not as good as a young man and it felt like his lungs were about to explode.
Thinking back to this morning’s journey, Jia DaoZhang felt a pang of fear afterward. Right now they should’ve still been sleeping in the garage. Yesterday, only three of the five teams that had been sent out for supplies search had returned. This happened from time to time, so they did not take it too seriously and went to bed when it was time.
In the end, at 5 am this morning when everyone was still asleep, there was a knock on the garage door.
The two teams that did not return last night said they had encountered a horde of zombies and hid for the night, only to return now.
The person in charge of the inspection was very sleepy at that time and let them in after a casual check.
It turned out that two of the people in the group had been bitten by the zombies but kept silent. When they were awakened by the screams, the garage was already in chaos. Amid the panic, someone opened the door of the garage and everyone scrambled to escape, bumping into a horde of zombies that were wandering around in the area.
In fact, there were only a few people who were bitten in the garage at first, and there were at least several hundred people in the garage. So even if they had remained slightly calmer, they would not have been in such a mess.
“I just ran away and didn’t bring anything. How could I be so unlucky.” Xiao YunYun said with a dejected face.
Yang Wei with a crew cut hair said: “It’s enough just to keep my little life saved. I really thought I was going to die there just now.”
Huang MengYao shuddered slightly at his words and remembered the utter despair and fear she felt at that time which even now somewhat haunted her. She could not help but turn her gaze to Gu Ning who was sitting cross-legged against the corner of the flower bed not far away from her.
Gu Ning found a corner and sat down to relax her legs which were shaking. She had rushed all night and this morning she had been chased by zombies for over an hour and lost count on the number of zombies she killed. Just now, her nerves and muscles were still tense yet did not feel anything. However, once she relaxed, she felt that her body went weak and it was difficult to even lift her fingers.
Suddenly, a female voice exclaimed.
All eyes were drawn to Huang MengYao at once, only to see her staring at Gu Ning with surprise, so they followed her gaze and looked at Gu Ning.
Gu Ning looked down at her right hand, the palm was already in a bloody mess, yet she felt no pain at all but only a tingling feeling in her palm.
Zhang Chao, who was wearing black-rimmed glasses, subconsciously shouted: “You’ve been bitten by a zombie?!”
This off-the-cut remark instantly made the atmosphere in the courtyard a little odd.
“Nope. It was slashed by a knife.” Gu Ning gave him a glance then slowly explained that the wound was caused when the knife was stuck at the zombie’s shoulder and she was surrounded by them so she was left with no choice but to pull the blade out in a hurry.
After Gu Ning said that, she pulled open her backpack with her left hand with difficulty, then fumbled around before taking out a bottle of medical alcohol, unscrewed it, and prepared to drench on her wound.
“I’ll do it.” Huang MengYao suddenly walked over and took over Gu Ning’s bottle of medical alcohol, she raised her eyes to meet Gu Ning’s then quickly lowered her head and said softly: “I took the nursing class in school.”
Gu Ning looked at her with some surprise then nodded and replied: “Thank you.”
Gu Ning had prepared a complete set of medicines and tools for wound treatment. Although Huang MengYao was puzzled in her mind, she did not say anything and just quietly helped Gu Ning to treat her wounds. She carefully used the cotton ball dipped with the alcohol to wipe away the blood around Gu Ning’s wound.
At this point, she looked different from the sarcastic image which was displayed at their first meeting with Gu Ning.
The medical alcohol accidentally leaked into the wound, immediately causing a sharp burning sensation and Gu Ning’s brow could not help and frown. After washing away the blood around the wound, a small finger-long wound that was visible to the flesh was revealed. Jia DaoZhang looked on with shock as it was obvious that the wound was not caused by anything just now. And yet she was still holding a knife with blood all over her hands to kill the zombies. He was amazed and could not help but glance at Gu Ning’s expression at this moment. Gu Ning did not even grunt from the beginning until the end, she only frowned slightly when her wound accidentally got in touch with the alcohol at that moment.
Cheng Ming watched from the side with his brows furrowed together, the expression on his face looked as if it hurt more than Gu Ning, the injured person.
“The wound is too deep, it’s best to go to the hospital for stitches.” Huang MengYao said after carefully helping Gu Ning bandaged the wound with gauze. As soon as these words were spoken, she realised what the current situation was as if there were any hospital available. Everywhere was in chaos.
Gu Ning tried to move her palm, her nerves felt the pain of the wound tearing up. She frowned, her knife-holding right hand was injured and it affected her greatly.
“Hey, Gu Ning. Where have you been for these past few days? I woke up that day and you were nowhere to be seen. I thought you had vanished.” Jia DaoZhang asked suddenly.
Gu Ning’s gaze flickered unnoticeably before she replied lightly: “I’m in a hurry to find someone, so I’ve gone first.” She said as she picked up her backpack and stood up, glancing at the knife in her hand that was blunt and could not help but frowns.
“I’m going inside to see if there’s anything to eat, I’m starving!” After catching his breath, Yang Wei got up from the ground and was ready to enter the door.
It was at this moment that Gu Ning caught a whiff of rottenness in the air mixed with the rich scent of osmanthus flowers.
Gu Ning snapped out a warning!
However, it was too late.
A greyish-yellow shadow suddenly sprang out from the jarred door! It bites on Yang Wei’s thigh! Then with a violent fling! Yang Wei let out an agony scream! Then he was bitten and dragged to the floor by that thing!
Those who had been sitting or lying on their backs jerked up from the floor and looked incomparably shocked at the thing that had bitten down Yang Wei!
Jia DaoZhang even lost his voice and said: “What the hell is this?!”
That was actually a giant wolf-dog that was half a man’s height!
To be precise, it should be a zombie wolfdog.
It had lost almost all of its fur and there was no longer any recognizable piece of flesh on the dog’s head.
The wolfdog pulled Yang Wei down and tore a chunk of flesh from his thigh, gulping down the bloody flesh while Yang Wei hissed in pain. Then it lifted those green eyes to stare at all the people in the courtyard who were horrified at the moment and it let out a low roar of excitement from its throat which had begun to rot —— A mouth covered in blood, it looked as terrifying as one could imagine it.
Even Gu Ning’s expression became extremely troubled and she subconsciously tightened the knife in her hand. She looked nervously at the zombie dog that might pounce on her at any time but she did not dare to move.
The zombie wolfdog’s green eyes stared at them and none of them dared to move, feeling that if they moved even slightly, the zombie wolfdog would pounce onto them.
Judging from the speed at which it had pounced on Yang Wei, it was simply terrifying and they had no certainty of running away before the zombie dog could bite them!
At the moment, Yang Wei was still struggling painfully and screaming for help, but no one dared to move.
Everyone, including Gu Ning, felt a deep sense of fear at this point.
Jia DaoZhang could not control the shaking of his legs and lowered his voice to ask Gu Ning, who was standing right next to him: “Gu Ning… Now, what now…”
As soon as he made this sound, the zombie wolf dog’s eyes snapped to him, revealing its ferocity! It was getting ready to pounce!
Jia DaoZhang’s face turned pale with fear!
Gu Ning was also terrified and raised the knife in her hand immediately!
At that exact moment! A girl with fewer guts suddenly broke down and let out an abrupt scream! Then she ran madly towards the metal gate!
Just as she moved! The zombie wolfdog moved too! It howled and rushed towards the girl like a thunderbolt!
Just then! Gu Ning saw this as the right moment! Yelling: “Quick! Get into the house!”
Then she was the first to run towards the door!
Jia DaoZhang and Cheng Ming were the closest to Gu Ning, they had not reacted yet, but they subconsciously followed Gu Ning running desperately towards the door!
This was the time to test everyone’s reflexes!
Gu Ning was the first to rush through the door, followed by Cheng Ming, Jia DaoZhang, and unexpectedly Huang MengYao also followed Gu Ning’s footsteps reflexively right away. The girl who had only reached the metal gate was pounced on by the zombie dog and her throat was bitten off without even letting out any sound!
Biting off the girl’s throat, the zombie dog turned around and saw Gu Ning and the others had rushed into the house. It immediately, as if enraged, let go of the girl and rushed towards the door! And at that instant, there was another boy outside who was still a few steps away rushing into the house——
“Ah!!!!!” All that could be heard was a scream! The expression on his face became extremely terrified! Yang Wei, who had been lying motionless on the ground, suddenly reached out and grabbed his ankle. He had just shaken off the hand but before he could take another step forward, he was violently pounced on by the zombie dog that rushed behind him at lightning bolt speed! Without the slightest hesitation, Gu Ning slammed the door shut! The latch was quickly dropped, immediately an extremely tragic scream rang out from outside.
Xiao YunYun covered her mouth and broke down into sobs with the other two terrified girls.
Huang MengYao’s face was pale, but unexpectedly she did not shed any tears.
Gu Ning did not even have the time to breathe a sigh of relief! Violently! The door was slammed loudly with a big “Bang!” Gu Ning’s hand, which had been supporting the door, was shaken by a huge jolt! It was the zombie wolfdog that had angrily started banging on the door! The girls’ cries could not help but freeze for a while.
Before they could react! The second slam reverberated again!
The zombie wolfdog was huge and the strike was powerful!
It bashed against the door one after another! The whole iron door looked like it was going to be deformed by the impact!
Gu Ning did not have the time to think too much, she hurriedly pressed her back against the door and her whole body was jolted by the force of the impact. She glanced at the latch and felt an ominous feeling, then shouted to Jia DaoZhang, Cheng Ming, and the remaining males: “Quickly go and push the fridge here!”
Turning again to the girls who were already stunned, she roared: “Get over here and help!”
Huang MengYao was the first to react and without hesitation, she ran over and used her hand to support near the side of the doorway. The girls, under Gu Ning’s very threatening glare, also rushed over to help and hold the door down.
One girl was still crying as she pressed the door and asked: “We’re not all going to die here, are we?”
“Shut your d***ed mouth!” Huang MengYao suddenly snapped and yelled at her.
That girl dared not say another word and only held down the door with all her strength.
The three boys over there were struggling and moved the fridge over, while Jia DaoZhang and Cheng Ming dragged the TV cabinet over and blocked the door tightly.
Gu Ning still felt uneasy and moved all those big sofas over, blocking the entire door.
After this, everyone let out a slight relief and sat down paralyzed with a feeling of being spared.
However Gu Ning was in no such mood, the zombie dog outside the door showed no sign of stopping. It was still slamming against the door repeatedly as if it would not give up until the door was smashed open.
The wave after wave of banging on the door was gut-wrenching to hear.
Without resting, Gu Ning quickly mapped out this floor, finding nothing but a few corpses that had been gnawed down to their skeletons. She returned to the hall, her expression was grim as she said to those who were still sitting, resting on the floor. “There is no back door. We’re trapped.”
