DSMC Chapter 92.1

Promotion and Salary Increase! (Part 1)

Yan Jiyun hid directly in the darkness after swiping at the myna. The myna had originally just been perched by the window, but after some unknown animal smacked its tail, it was so frightened that it took off immediately.

The myna player said nervously, “Let’s go, let’s go. Who knows what the hell is inside! Damn it, it even dared to attack me!”

Yan Jiyun hadn’t expected that when the black panther found this spot, it would suddenly run into the trio of gorilla, brown bear, and myna.

Humans instinctively fear the dark, not to mention that he had been hiding in it and given the myna a swipe, scaring the other party half to death. His reason for doing so was simple: he didn’t want the three players to know his player identity, and he wanted them to stay as far away from here as possible.

If he turned back into a human in front of them, it would inevitably attract unnecessary attention.

The three players outside had no intention of leaving. The gorilla held a tree branch and wrote on the ground.

Gorilla player: Don’t you want to check what’s inside?

The myna player absolutely did not want to go in. “There’s no need, right? I think it might be some unknown creature.”

The brown bear player agreed more with the gorilla player’s idea. The myna still disagreed. After all, it had just had its tail scratched and was nearly scared to death. But since his companions were willing to investigate, he could only agree.

The window of this wooden cabin was very small, only large enough for a black panther to enter. The door was tightly locked; from outside, the only way in was through the window. But now they didn’t know whether there was something dangerous lurking beneath the window, so the three players didn’t dare to rush toward it recklessly. Instead, the gorilla player and the brown bear player began ramming the door.

Yan Jiyun was startled by their recklessness. He hadn’t expected that instead of scaring them off, he had actually aroused their curiosity. A miscalculation.

In fact, a brown bear’s sense of smell is more sensitive than a hunting dog’s, but this brown bear player didn’t seem to have detected the scent of a black panther here.

Bang bang bang!

Bang bang bang!

Bang bang bang!

Yan Jiyun could feel the wooden planks of the cabin shaking. Dust fluttered down in clouds. He had finally escaped from the jungle filled with anesthetic spray, and now he was going to inhale dust again. For the sake of his respiratory tract, he decided to jump out the window.

If he didn’t run now, this cabin would be smashed down by the brown bear.

All the zookeeper rest areas in the zoo were wooden cabins. These cabins definitely weren’t built for players to hide in. If they were meant for that, they would have been made of concrete. The trash system wouldn’t be that kind. It even used wooden cabins, showing how stingy and detail-obsessed it was, sparing no effort to screw players over in every possible place.

The myna player couldn’t do anything and could only cheer from the side. “Almost there, almost there! Whether we can force it out depends on this!”

While their attention was focused on the front door, Yan Jiyun quietly climbed onto the window, preparing to jump down from there.

There happened to be a tree right in front of the window, perfectly blocking the overly bright moonlight tonight.

If he didn’t leave now, his experience card time might be wasted here again.

Who knew where the black panther had gone.

Since waking up, he hadn’t heard any movement from other animals besides the three players.

The cabin door was finally smashed open by the brown bear.

The three players stood at the doorway looking inside. Seizing the opportunity, Yan Jiyun jumped down from the window. He didn’t make a single sound, quickly slipping into the grass and lowering his body as he moved forward silently.

The myna player: “Damn, it ran away. It’s just a small animal. No need to chase it.”

The brown bear player heard the movement, but they clearly had no intention of pursuing. NPCs were their primary target, and Yan Jiyun was not a keeper right now. There was no need to waste energy chasing a small animal.

As soon as Yan Jiyun slipped out, he saw two large glowing bulbs jump down from a tree.

It was the black panther.

The black panther reached out a paw and patted Yan Jiyun’s head, then lowered its body, signaling for him to climb onto its back.

Yan Jiyun understood. He lightly jumped onto its back. Its healing ability was so strong that the injuries it had suffered earlier were no longer visible at all.

He wrapped his paws around the black panther’s neck, wanting to see where it intended to take him.

Fortunately, this time the black panther didn’t intend to carry him in its mouth. Otherwise, with all the shaking, it would have been so uncomfortable. He definitely didn’t want to experience that again while fully conscious.

Riding on the black panther’s back was pretty cool, though!

If there were aerial photography right now, it would definitely capture his coolest and most handsome moment.

Go, Soy Sauce!

[Want to be Human] livestream channel:

“Damn it, I want to ride the black panther too! Big black panther and little black cat… what kind of divinely adorable combo is this? I’m dying from the cuteness! Trash system, can’t you record their running scene? It’s really, really so cute! Oh dear, my HP bar is almost empty!”

“I was just about to discuss the plot, but then I saw the big black panther flying across the field with the little black cat. So cute.”

“Has any sister tried first-person POV? It’s really cool. The big black panther’s perspective is totally different from the little black cat’s. It’s faster, wider, and more thrilling, seriously awesome! When the kitten jumped onto the big black panther’s back, I switched to first-person POV. The kitten almost fell off twice, and I was scared to death. Luckily the black panther slowed down so it could hold on tight. It’s really fun, much more exciting than any game I’ve played at an amusement park.”

“Let me play a bit more before coming back to discuss the plot. Ahhh, this feels amazing. I feel like I’m about to take off.”

“To be honest, since it’s the first time seeing the new plot of this instance, there’s no way to discuss it. We can only follow the kitten’s perspective.”

“Actually, we can combine it with the endings other players have triggered. I feel like this time it’s going to be a new ending again.”

“According to the original plot direction, all players should strive to get rankings and then search at night for the reason the animals are going berserk. Some players find the infirmary and discover the doctor doing experiments. Some find that harmful plant. They can solve the mystery, but it takes a long time, usually not until the last day. During the first three nights, players’ attention is entirely on fighting the rioting animals. As for endings, either you lead your teammates and the animal underlings you recruited to eliminate the other animals in the zoo and liberate it, or you unite all players and animals to kill the zookeepers, or a well-coordinated team directly destroys the entire zoo. Those are roughly the three outcomes. No one has played as meticulously as the kitten. He’s already created a new direction.”

“Okay, the kitten and the black panther have stopped. The black panther directly brought him to Dr. Peng. Oh my god, Dr. Peng looks miserable. How did he get beaten up so badly?”

The black panther ran much faster than Yan Jiyun.

It carried Yan Jiyun through the forest. It was clear that it was very familiar with every part of the zoo, and within a few minutes, it successfully brought Yan Jiyun to Dr. Peng.

Just as mentioned in the bullet comments, Dr. Peng was bruised and battered, looking quite miserable.

Yan Jiyun jumped down from the black panther’s back and landed in front of the unconscious Dr. Peng.

In the darkness, he must have panicked and fallen into some animal’s enrichment facility.

It looked like no small animals had lived here for a long time. The facilities had already developed a moldy smell.

A zoo that smells moldy clearly has high humidity. The environment of this zoo was somewhat like southern cities in the real world. Once the rainy season comes, it rains frequently, and everything feels damp. Even when it’s not raining, excessive humidity can fill houses with the smell of mold.

Dr. Zhou’s people were still searching for Dr. Peng. When he and the black panther came over, they saw the roads filled with people looking for them.

Dr. Peng was currently going through the area alone, with no teammates supporting him yet.

Seeing that he was still breathing and only unconscious from the fall, Yan Jiyun found the purple phone he had taken earlier from him.

The phone had no password. When Yan Jiyun pressed the screen, it lit up.

This was the one Dr. Peng had used before.

Yan Jiyun praised the black panther: “You’re really amazing. I’ve decided to give you a better-sounding name.”

The black panther calmly found a tree and lay down. It wasn’t attached to having a name.

There were still three minutes left before his time card ended. He hoped Dr. Peng wouldn’t wake up at this time.

Yan Jiyun directly tapped into the phone’s messages and saw a string of numbers. Below it was a notification that the message had failed to send. The data being sent was at 80%, but it had stopped there. In the top-right corner of the screen, there was no network and no signal.

That was right. This was the message Dr. Peng had been trying to send.

Yan Jiyun couldn’t hold the phone up and wander around in this place, and it wasn’t easy to carry in his mouth either. He asked the black panther for help, nudging the phone toward it.

After glancing at him, the black panther jumped down from the tree and picked up the phone in its mouth, wandering around the area.

Watching the black panther’s strange behavior, Yan Jiyun couldn’t help but feel like it seemed to know something.

There was signal nearby.

After circling around, the black panther returned and placed the phone in front of Yan Jiyun.

Yan Jiyun looked. 90% of the data had been sent. He nudged the phone toward the black panther again. The black panther looked at him as if helpless.

The black panther ran back and forth three times, and the image data on the phone was transmitted bit by bit.

97%—99%—100%!

Ding, sent successfully!

At the exact moment the message was successfully sent, Yan Jiyun’s time card expired. He turned back into a human, and Dr. Peng, who had been lying on the ground, slowly regained consciousness.

Seeing Yan Jiyun sitting nearby, Dr. Peng covered his aching head and said in surprise, “Xiao Jiang, thank you for saving me again.”

Yan Jiyun was just about to say that it wasn’t him who had saved him. He was about to say that the black panther had found him, when he realized the black panther had already disappeared into the night, hiding its achievements and fame.

He forced a smile. “You’re welcome. We’re colleagues. Helping each other when there’s trouble is only natural.”

[Congratulations, player, for successfully completing the side mission“Dr. Zhou’s Pursuit.” Dr. Peng has successfully sent the evidence he found to his superior. Points will be awarded after the instance ends.]

Yan Jiyun let out a sigh of relief. He had finally completed this damned mission. He had almost lost his life!

He had been running all night. He was truly exhausted.

Before long, Yan Jiyun received another system notification.

[Congratulations, player, for successfully completing the side mission“Dr. Peng Request (2_.” You may choose between a points reward or a rest-time reward. Points will be awarded after the instance ends. Rest time can only be used within the instance. During the rest period, the player will not be disturbed by any NPCs.]

[You have three seconds to choose your reward. Countdown begins—]

3 seconds—

2 seconds—

1 second—

Without hesitation, Yan Jiyun chose the “rest time” reward.

[Player has chosen the “rest time” reward. Congratulations, you have obtained 8 hours of rest time.]

He was almost dead from exhaustion. Of course he chose rest time directly. Points didn’t matter. Only after resting well could he slowly earn more points later.

Eight hours was enough!

As soon as the mission ended, Dr. Peng’s phone could send messages again.

Ding, a message was delivered to Dr. Peng’s phone.

Seeing the reply on his phone, Dr. Peng’s smile widened. “That’s great. Vice Director He will handle this matter immediately. There should be results by this morning!”

From the side, Yan Jiyun saw the reply from Dr. Peng’s superior.

Vice Director He: [Xiao Peng, thank you for your hard work. I will immediately convene a meeting to address this issue!]

It seemed his guess was correct. Dr. Peng and Vice Director He were on the same side.

[Congratulations, player, for resolving the zoo’s first crisis: “Rioting Animals.”]

This is still such a fun arc! I hope that the faction war will end with better treatment for the animals, they don’t deserve to be hurt by the game system! 😭

    Thank you for the chapter!

  2. Hacta1409 says:

I’m sure that, as the panther was running around with mobile phone, the thought flashed through his mind: ‘Raising children is so hard.’
