DSMC Chapter 170.2

Choosing the Main Personality (Part 2)

Because of the medicine, Yan Jiyun was sleeping extremely deeply. He could vaguely hear sounds coming from outside, but no matter how hard he tried, his body wouldn’t move.

In the end, he simply gave up trying to listen.

His body was too exhausted to let him keep expending energy. He really hadn’t gotten enough sleep these past few days. At his age, he should be getting plenty of sleep.

Keep sleeping.

Keep sleeping!

Meanwhile, Shi Yan and Gu Wenzhu continued guarding the doorway.

Gu Wenzhu looked thoughtful. Shi Yan thought Yan Jiyun’s teammates seemed quite reliable.

Shi Yan: “Did you figure something out?”

Gu Wenzhu: “I’m just wondering why Director Jiang took a bag back with him at a time like this.”

Shi Yan wasn’t very familiar with the incident where Qi Feng had used a bag to carry a cat, so he didn’t understand. “That bag looks like it has something inside.”

Gu Wenzhu: “I remember seeing Qi Feng use some expensive packaging to carry a cat in the teaching building. I’m wondering whether there could be a cat inside that bag.”

It was only after arriving here that Shi Yan learned that his teammate had a black cat, the same one they’d encountered in the [Mingya High School] instance.

He made a bold guess, “No way, right? Where would he even find a cat?”

Gu Wenzhu muttered to himself, “True, but how did Director Jiang know where the cat was? He’s been here for almost exactly as long as Qi Feng has. He only left after everyone went to rest.”

Shi Yan said, “Maybe this is just our speculation.”

Gu Wenzhu didn’t say anything. He had remembered that a black cat had also appeared in the [Hide and Seek] instance. After he entered this instance, Qiu Xi had told him that the black cat might have been the same cat he had brought into the instance back then. In other words, Qi Feng’s cat.

He couldn’t help thinking that Qi Feng’s cat was pretty impressive. It seemed to have no trouble winning the favor of NPCs.

Could there really be a cat inside that bag?

At that moment, Director Jiang had already opened the bag and lifted out the pitch-black cat, which was sleeping like a log, placing it on his sleeping bag.

He stared at the black cat again and again, the smile on his face gradually widening. He even poked the cat’s head with his finger. “So this is what it feels like to have a cat. I should’ve secretly raised one before. I found this black cat myself. No one is allowed to take it away. It has to stay here and keep me company, so I won’t be lonely. Will the cat be hungry when it wakes up? What should I prepare for it? Raw meat or cooked meat? Cat food or canned cat food? Have I officially become a cat owner now?”

Director Jiang continued talking to himself. As he watched the black cat sleep so soundly that it refused to wake up no matter what, he was completely energetic and had absolutely no intention of resting.

This black cat was a little too black, but it wasn’t impossible to keep. It should be able to stay at the school and keep him company for ten-odd years.

What a terribly short lifespan.

Yan Jiyun slept until broad daylight. His awareness of the outside world grew weaker and weaker. If it weren’t for his physical condition, he wouldn’t have slept so deeply — or rather, been completely knocked out.

When he woke up, he thought he had only slept for five or six hours. But when he checked the system time, he discovered that more than ten hours had already passed in the game.

Yan Jiyun’s eyes flew open.

Where was he? The mat beneath him was soft, but it wasn’t a bed. There was also a rounded canopy overhead.

Was this a tent?

There was no familiar scent belonging to anyone he knew nearby. Qi Feng hadn’t brought him here.

Yesterday, when he had nearly reached his limit, he had found a place to sleep in the library. Later, he had vaguely felt someone moving his body. He had thought it was just a dream brought on by exhaustion.

Someone really had moved him here.

It couldn’t have been another player, because no player would have known where he was hiding.

That only left…

He couldn’t even bring himself to say the word. The fur along his back was practically standing on end!

He calmed himself down. He must have been followed.

Not only had he slept for a long time, he had slept extremely deeply. Sleeping this long was probably the result of his exhaustion. One reason was that he was tired, and the other was that he was sick.

Before his fur could fully stand on end, Yan Jiyun smelled the aroma of meat coming from nearby. His stomach immediately growled with hunger.

He wasn’t stupid. He could tell at a glance who had prepared the meat for him. There was no trace of poison or anything suspicious.

It was safe to eat.

Yan Jiyun was so hungry that his stomach felt stuck to his back. At this point, whether they gave him meat or vegetables, he would happily gobble them all down.

He quickly ate the meat that had been prepared for him and drank some water. His energy recovered to around 60% or so.

Cats might have strong endurance and decent self-healing abilities, but that didn’t mean they could immediately return to peak condition.

Ten hours had passed. It should be around 2 PM now.

The main storyline had already advanced by two missions; that wasn’t slow at all. Main missions 5 and 6 were marked as “Completed.” Only the mission names were displayed, there were no mission details.

New Main Story Mission 5: “The Truth Behind Su Xiran’s Death.”

New Main Story Mission 6: “Su Jingran’s Identity.”

Based on information Yan Jiyun and Shi Yan gathered from the library archives after accepting both tasks, it turned out that Su Jingran was not Su Xiran; rather, Su Xiran was the original Su Xiran — the female student whose grades had plummeted — while Su Jingran was the one whose academic performance had improved.

However, last night, Xiao Tang had been killed, and then Yan Jiyun had suddenly fallen asleep because his head had become unbearably heavy.

What exactly was the truth?

Yan Jiyun had missed an important part of the mission progression, and he desperately wanted to know what had happened and what details he had missed.

Although he was reluctant to leave his soft little nest, this wasn’t the time to enjoy himself. A temporary golden nest couldn’t help him escape from the game [Destiny].

He heard footsteps approaching. It was probably the person who had brought him here.

Yan Jiyun quickly crawled out of the tent and soon discovered that this was one of the music classrooms in the music building. He quietly hid in the shadows behind the door.

If he went out through the main entrance now, he would definitely run straight into whoever was coming in.

For the moment, he didn’t want to be taken away by an NPC.

Yan Jiyun watched as the person walked in and headed straight for the tent. The person was also carrying a bag of medicine.

When he opened the tent, he discovered that the cat was gone and the bowl was empty.

The person was none other than Director Jiang, whom Yan Jiyun knew. Yan Jiyun was rather surprised, but what surprised him wasn’t that Director Jiang was possessed by something.

What surprised him was how the hell this guy had found him.

He remembered that the cabinet he had hidden in was very deep and wasn’t easy to discover. Could it be that there had actually been something behind him at the time?

Suddenly, Director Jiang turned his head toward the place where Yan Jiyun was hiding. A smile spread across his face. “Little kitty, why are you hiding behind the door?”

Yan Jiyun’s entire body broke out in goosebumps. He told himself that this was Teacher Qu’s consciousness world. It was perfectly normal for Teacher Qu to know where he was at all times.

It wasn’t that thing. It wasn’t that thing! But this was fucking terrifying!

The moment Director Jiang started walking toward him, Yan Jiyun turned around and bolted out of the classroom.

Anyone who didn’t run would be an idiot. He absolutely did not want to be targeted by this strange thing.

No, he had already been targeted. And the other party seemed to have seen straight through his identity.

Fucking hell!

Teacher Qu was possessing Director Jiang.

Director Jiang chased after him, but by the time he reached the doorway, the little black cat had already disappeared, so he stopped chasing.

Yan Jiyun knew the music building like the back of his hand by now. After running out, he plunged straight into the bushes on either side, his heart still pounding wildly.

He had found Teacher Qu, but which Teacher Qu was this? The main personality or an alter? How could he confirm it?

Yan Jiyun found a tree corresponding to the music classroom he’d just escaped from and quietly crouched beneath its shade, watching Director Jiang, who was preparing to return to his tent to rest.

Only by following Director Jiang could he figure out how to isolate Teacher Qu’s main personality in this instance.

The other NPCs were all resting at this time, but Director Jiang wasn’t.

He left the music building, avoided the NPCs wandering around it, and walked onto one of the school’s smaller paths. Where was he going?

Yan Jiyun quietly followed behind him. He had run away just now because he didn’t want to be restrained by the other party. He preferred taking the initiative rather than being passive.

Director Jiang had prepared food and water for him. There was a possibility that this personality wasn’t malicious.

This arrangement wasn’t bad. Qi Feng and the others could investigate the truth behind the Mingya High School girls’ jumping incident, while he observed the various candidates for Teacher Qu’s personalities.

If Director Jiang was possessed by Teacher Qu, that meant Teacher Qu had already transformed from a human into a ghost in this instance.

hen the female ghosts were being controlled by him.

“The Truth Behind Su Xiran’s Death” had already been completed.

Since Director Jiang was still perfectly fine, that meant he probably wasn’t deeply involved in the matter. So the person who had instructed Xiao Tang wasn’t Director Jiang?

However, it could also have been one of the female supporting characters. He hadn’t interacted with the girls much and didn’t know what was going on with them. But anything was possible.

an Jiyun maintained a distance of more than fifty meters from Director Jiang as he followed him all the way to Mirror Lake.

Why Mirror Lake?

Director Jiang stood by the lake and let the breeze blow over him for a while. Then Yan Jiyun heard the unhurried sound of footsteps slowly approaching.

Who was coming this time?

Did people from the same film crew really need to communicate in such a secretive manner?

The other person’s footsteps were extremely light, so light that an ordinary person wouldn’t have been able to hear them at all.

Yan Jiyun hid behind a small mound and didn’t dare approach.

Finally, the person appeared.

Yan Jiyun never expected it to be Qu Wanqiao.

According to Shi Yan’s recollection of what had happened on the bus, Director Jiang wasn’t supposed to have a favorable opinion of Qu Wanqiao.

So what was going on now?

Then again, Director Jiang was Director Jiang, while Teacher Qu was Teacher Qu.

Teacher Qu, Qu Wanqiao, and Female Ghost No. 2 should all be personalities of Teacher Qu.

The difference was simply whether they served the main personality or were personalities belonging to an alter.

The moment Qu Wanqiao appeared, he said to Director Jiang, “Director Jiang, I’ve already taken care of everything you instructed me to do.”

Yan Jiyun: “……” Holy shit!

What was going on between these two?

Was Qu Wanqiao a split personality under Teacher Qu’s personality?

[Congratulations, Player, for triggering Main Story mission 7: Find all of Teacher Qu’s personalities and identify the true main personality.]

[Mission Details: How many personalities does Teacher Qu have? Only after finding all of Teacher Qu’s personalities and awakening his true self can you leave the game~]

[Would you like to confirm that Director Jiang and Qu Wanqiao are personalities or the main personality of Teacher Qu? Please choose carefully. An incorrect answer will deduct game time.]

Yan Jiyun: “……” Good grief.

Was this basically saying that once he collected all seven Dragon Balls, he could summon Shenlong?
