The rest of the filming went very smoothly.
After several night scenes, it was already 2 AM. Although Yan Jiyun had gotten some sleep, he was still physically a teenager, and he was starting to feel sleepy.
Yet the next scene was an important one opposite the second male lead.
In the original script, everyone encountered the female ghost in white. Some people were frightened, some ran around in panic, and some hid under desks. The female ghost in the script was “real”. She could kill people.
The male lead didn’t hide together with the female lead, which gave the female lead and male second lead an opportunity. Although the second male lead appeared rather cold, he genuinely loved the female lead. His feelings for her were real.
This was Yan Jiyun’s first time interacting with the second male lead, so he had to force himself to stay alert.
Qu Wanqiao wasn’t very pleased with this newcomer who had suddenly been brought in to fill the female lead’s role. His eyes were full of criticism whenever he looked at Yan Jiyun.
Yan Jiyun wasn’t afraid of him either. He rolled his eyes and glared right back.
Qu Wanqiao: “……” Quite the character.
In this scene, the two of them were supposed to crouch together under a classroom desk to hide from the female ghost’s pursuit.
Director Jiang: “Action!”
The two squeezed into the cramped space while a camera was practically shoved into their faces, filming their reactions as they saw the terrifying female ghost.
Yan Jiyun was extremely good at acting scared. He simply acted like himself, as he was genuinely terrified of supernatural things.
The lighting gradually dimmed.
Th-there was a female ghost coming!
The character played by Qu Wanqiao was quite similar to Qu Wanqiao himself. He’s somewhat arrogant and prone to saying things he didn’t mean.
He naturally delivered his line, his handsome jawline facing Yan Jiyun. “What is there to be afraid of?”
Yan Jiyun’s gaze landed on the actress playing the female ghost. The ghost had an ashen face and was smiling eerily at them.
She was probably suspended by a harness, floating above the floor. Just looking at her made Yan Jiyun feel terrified. This actress looked way too realistic. It almost felt as though she was genuinely floating weightlessly!
Yan Jiyun unconsciously moved a little closer to Qu Wanqiao and reluctantly delivered his line. “W-why can’t I be scared?”
Qu Wanqiao was quite disdainful internally and continued with his line. “It’s all fake. Believe in science.”
Yan Jiyun felt the surrounding environment becoming increasingly cold and gloomy. When the female ghost’s white dress blocked his view for a moment, everyone else around them suddenly disappeared.
Had Director Jiang cleared the set that quickly? Weren’t Qi Feng and the others nearby too?
Where had they gone?
Yan Jiyun’s heart sank.
There was now only Qu Wanqiao beside him!
He no longer needed to worry about whether they were filming or not.
[Player has entered New Main Mission 4: “The Female Ghost’s Attack”.]
[Mission Details: Please evade the Mingya High School female ghost’s attacks within 5 minutes. Surviving will count as mission completion.]
[Friendly Reminder: Please don’t remain in the same location for more than 30 seconds~]
Yan Jiyun looked at the white dress moving toward him and lowered his voice. “Believe my ass in science. There really is a female ghost.”
Qu Wanqiao also vaguely sensed that something was wrong, but his arrogance wouldn’t allow him to immediately abandon his convictions. “How is that possible? You’re just scaring yourself.”
As he spoke, he tried to crawl out from under the desk to see what was happening, but Yan Jiyun grabbed him and pulled him back first!
Qu Wanqiao was about to ask what he was doing when a head covered in disheveled black hair suddenly appeared in front of their desk.
A bluish-gray face was only an arm’s length away from them!
Qu Wanqiao was so frightened that he immediately fell backward, his face turning deathly pale.
Holy fucking shit, this was terrifying!
Someone save them! Aaaaaah!
He wasn’t the only one who was frightened. Yan Jiyun was badly startled too. However, unlike Qu Wanqiao, whose body had gone rigid from fear, Yan Jiyun immediately threw a heavy punch at that bluish-gray face.
Being scared was one thing, but he still had to punch it!
The female ghost was stunned by Yan Jiyun’s sudden punch and floated backward a little.
Qu Wanqiao and Yan Jiyun’s expressions weren’t much different from each other now. Neither of them dared crawl out from under the desk. That white dress was still floating around them.
It was fucking terrifying.
Actually, Yan Jiyun’s hand was still trembling.
Why the hell did the instance have something like this? This was completely unscientific!
Qu Wanqiao was stunned for quite a while before finally catching his breath. “Fuck! It’s really a ghost? Aren’t we filming a movie? So shouldn’t she be an actress?”
He still couldn’t believe what he had just seen.
Yan Jiyun didn’t even want to argue about it with him. “Go see if the director and the others are still there.”
He was now certain that he and the other players had been completely separated and brought into a mission space.
After recovering from Yan Jiyun’s punch, the female ghost floated toward them again. Yan Jiyun looked at the “friendly reminder” and calculated how long they had been there.
They were almost at 30 seconds.
Although he wasn’t sure whether Qu Wanqiao was actually Teacher Qu’s true main personality, the two of them had been bound together now. He was supposed to take Qu Wanqiao with him while avoiding the ghost, which increased the difficulty of the mission.
He had never encountered a “friendly reminder” during his previous solo-space missions. This reminder was probably telling him that he needed to bring Qu Wanqiao along with him.
Normally, the difficulty of a Level 5 instance would only increase. It was impossible for the system to give players such a newbie reminder unless there was another purpose behind it.
Right now, there was no one here except him and Qu Wanqiao. The other person was the one he needed to protect.
He was scared, but Yan Jiyun still took a deep breath. “Qu-laoshi, let’s get out of here quickly.”
After all that, he still had to call Qu Wanqiao “laoshi.” In the entertainment industry, it was customary to address one’s seniors as “laoshi.”
Could the current Qu Wanqiao actually be Teacher Qu’s primary personality? But that annoying personality didn’t resemble him at all.
The people protected by the system had always been Teacher Qu’s personalities. Yan Jiyun remained suspicious of Teacher Qu.
The system hadn’t given him an explicit indication, but there was a very good chance that Qu Wanqiao was connected to the main personality — or, at the very least, to the new main mission.
The female ghost was still floating nearby.
Yan Jiyun crawled out from under the desk before Qu Wanqiao. When the latter saw him leave, he followed as well. Perhaps Yan Jiyun’s punch had been intimidating enough, although Qu Wanqiao would never admit that he considered Yan Jiyun reliable.
The two moved backward, inch by inch toward the door.
They didn’t dare make a sound and only wanted to move faster. Qu Wanqiao desperately crawled forward. He didn’t want to be the one at the back.
Yan Jiyun naturally thought the same thing. He definitely didn’t want to be at the back either.
The two competed with each other to move faster, squeezing and shoving one another until they finally reached the door!
But just as they were about to pull it open and escape, they discovered that the door wouldn’t budge.
Yan Jiyun thought the female ghost had been unusually quiet. So he and Qu Wanqiao simultaneously looked up.
“AAAAAAAH!”
“FUCK!”
They screamed at the same time!
The female ghost was pressing against the door with one hand. A bloodthirsty smile appeared on her face as her long, sharp fingernails reached toward them in a clawing gesture.
Yan Jiyun’s legs went weak. Qu Wanqiao was in much the same state. But they still forced themselves up from the floor.
Qu Wanqiao picked up a chair and smashed it toward the female ghost. She retreated a little.
Seeing that it worked, Yan Jiyun also grabbed a chair and smashed it at the ghost.
Their actions only enraged the female ghost even more. She flew toward Qu Wanqiao, her long, sharp fingernails shooting straight toward his eyes. She was trying to gouge his eyes out!
Yan Jiyun violently shoved Qu Wanqiao aside.
The female ghost’s black fingernails scraped across his left shoulder, leaving behind a black scratch.
The female ghost curled her lips into an eerie, stiff, sinister smile, as though she’d succeeded.
Yan Jiyun covered his left shoulder. His clothes had been torn open, and the ghost’s fingernails had cut into his skin. “Hiss. Do you think her fingernails have bacteria on them?”
Qu Wanqiao hadn’t expected Yan Jiyun to save him. After sitting up, he said, “Don’t touch the wound. What if you actually get an infection?”
Yan Jiyun asked worriedly again, “There really could be bacteria, right?”
Qu Wanqiao said, “Maybe. Probably. A female ghost probably doesn’t shower or anything.”
It felt like their conversation had gone rather far off-topic.
Yan Jiyun tore off part of the school uniform underneath his clothes and tied it around his left shoulder. It was enough to temporarily stop the bleeding.
He hoped there weren’t any bacteria under the female ghost’s fingernails. He was a very clean black cat, after all.
Yan Jiyun: “I’m a little worried about getting an infection. What should I do?”
Qu Wanqiao: “Then hurry up and get out of here and get a shot.”
The female ghost seemed to feel thoroughly ignored and launched another attack.
This time, both Yan Jiyun and Qu Wanqiao were mentally prepared. The fear they felt wasn’t as intense as before now that they’d already fought the ghost once.
However, this time the female ghost simply disappeared right in front of them.
Qu Wanqiao looked around. “Where did she go?”
Yan Jiyun: “I don’t know.”
But he saw an extremely faint shadow drifting outside the window. He pointed outside. “Is there a shadow out there?”
The two were now standing back-to-back. Qu Wanqiao followed his finger and looked over. “There seems to be a white figure.”
Yan Jiyun: “Not just one?”
Qu Wanqiao: “The school’s legend really is true.”
Yan Jiyun took the opportunity to probe for information. “You didn’t go to school here?”
Qu Wanqiao froze. “How did you know I used to attend this school? It’s not in my Baidu profile.”
Yan Jiyun: “I heard it from someone else. Why isn’t it on Baidu?”
Qu Wanqiao: “Everyone used to compete to attend Mingya High School. But starting from some year, every year a female senior would jump from the building. Gradually, the school stopped getting new students. Not only did students refuse to come, but teachers also began resigning one after another. Eventually, the school couldn’t continue operating and was abandoned.”
Yan Jiyun asked, “About how many years did this go on?”
Before Qu Wanqiao could answer, the ceiling fan in the classroom suddenly began spinning wildly.
The mounting mechanism on the ceiling fan had long since deteriorated. It was now directly above their heads and could fall at any moment, potentially slicing their heads right off.
[Time remaining until the end of mission: 3 min 30 sec]
This was going to be a long-ass three and a half minutes! How were they supposed to survive this female ghost that was determined to kill them?
Yan Jiyun and Qu Wanqiao kept retreating.
Just then, the white figure outside the window gradually approached the classroom window. Her body became increasingly clear, and her face gradually came into view.
Yan Jiyun and Qu Wanqiao nearly huddled into a ball.
Qu Wanqiao asked, “What do we do?”
Yan Jiyun replied, “What else can we do? Run!”
The two rushed toward the back door of the classroom, but the back door wouldn’t open either.
Meanwhile, the white figure outside passed straight through the window and appeared in the middle of the classroom out of thin air. She stood directly beneath the electric fan that was about to fall from the ceiling.
Female Ghost No. 2, with her bluish face, stared eerily at them.
Yan Jiyun tremblingly pointed at her and finally managed to make out her appearance. She looked exactly like Qu Wanqiao!
And at that very moment, Qu Wanqiao himself had already collapsed unconscious onto the floor with a plop.
Yan Jiyun: “……” What a useless teammate!
