“My god, this is so miserable yet so hilarious! I was just worried the monster might eat them, and then this happened. My sense of tension is completely gone.”

Only after seeing that the monster’s thick abdomen was no longer rising and falling did Yan Jiyun climb down from the tree. He walked over to Chu Mo, who was still standing stiffly.

He asked with some concern, “Are you okay?” He felt he shouldn’t mock a teammate who had fought alongside him. Out of a sudden pang of conscience, he spent a few points to buy a towel and water and handed them over. “Here, wipe yourself.”

After entering an instance, all goods doubled in price. The temporary teammate had paid the points for the sword, so Yan Jiyun bought the towel and water. Cleaning the face first was important; the dirt on the body could be washed off in a river.

Chu Mo took the towel and quickly wiped his face. “Pour water for me. It stinks to death.”

Yan Jiyun poured a bottle of water over his head. That little bit of water didn’t do much, just barely cleaned the blood off his face.

As soon as Chu Mo wiped the blood off his face, he grabbed a tree and started vomiting violently. “Ugh!”

Yan Jiyun quietly stepped a little farther away. Watching him vomit made him feel nauseous too.

He could hear the sound of running water nearby, though it was some distance away. A normal person wouldn’t be able to hear it. He decided to wait for his temporary teammate to finish vomiting before finding an excuse to bring him there to rinse off.

Chu Mo kept vomiting, and Yan Jiyun had no way to help him stop.

Only after Chu Mo was done vomiting did he buy water from the shop and pour it over his head. He even stripped off his dirty clothes on the spot and changed into another identical camouflage outfit. The speed and generosity with which he spent points like water greatly shocked Yan Jiyun, and also made him realize he couldn’t possibly match it.

While Chu Mo changed clothes, Yan Jiyun began examining the monster lying on the ground. He picked up a branch and poked it.

Yan Jiyun selectively ignored the question. He jumped onto a branch and looked down at the monster. Lying there, it looked like a small hill. It wasn’t easy to see clearly while standing on the ground.

He stiffly changed the subject. “Don’t you think it looks a bit like a human?”

Chu Mo had no desire to look at the thing anymore. Before entering the Peak Competition, whenever he killed monsters, he would simply leave immediately. It was too disgusting.

But seeing Yan Jiyun so interested, he jumped up beside him and took a look. “It does look a bit like one.”

The thing ate people, and the smell coming from it was indeed disgusting. After looking for a while, the two decided to leave.

Their bicycles were basically destroyed, so they could only rely on their legs.

Since they didn’t know if walking the main road would lead to encountering more monsters, Yan Jiyun suggested, “Let’s go through the forest. Later you can find a stream to wash up.”

Chu Mo originally wanted to refuse walking through the forest, but the moment he heard about washing in a stream, he immediately agreed. But since the points were all looted anyway, he didn’t feel bad spending them.

Yan Jiyun led Chu Mo through the forest for about two kilometers before finding a stream. Chu Mo tested the water to see if it was clean, and only after confirming there was no problem did he jump in for a quick wash.

Yan Jiyun sat to the side and rested. While his temporary teammate was bathing, he checked the remaining time on his Human Form Time Card. 

There wasn’t much time left, so he quickly renewed it for another hour.

If, because of the various monsters in the Demon Forest, he couldn’t reach Angel City before nightfall, he would truly be doomed. Once the experience card ran out, he would be forced to remain in his cat form. Who knew when his true form might be exposed. He needed to enter the city as soon as possible.

For him, this game’s difficulty was doubled and then doubled again. Not only did he have to hide his true form, but he also had to face numerous players with levels higher than his.

Chu Mo was enjoying himself in the water. He even redeemed a small bottle of shampoo and body wash.

Chu Mo had very fair skin and slightly larger eyes. He had a naturally innocent-looking face, one that could easily gain people’s trust.

Yan Jiyun noticed that when he stood next to Chu Mo, the two of them looked like freshmen who had just entered university.

Just as they were preparing to leave, they heard the sound of something heavy falling into water somewhere in the forest.

They were standing upstream in a shallow creek. Downstream there might be a naturally formed small lake. Whatever had fallen must have hit the water to make such a loud splash.

Yan Jiyun and Chu Mo looked at each other and decided to head downstream.

They had been staying in the forest the whole time. Although it was quiet, their attention had been focused on dealing with monsters, so they hadn’t noticed the cries coming from the sky.

Yan Jiyun pointed upward. “Could those things have knocked them down?”

Chu Mo followed his finger and looked up. “Definitely. Looks like monsters appear not only on the road we bike on. There are plenty in the sky too.

Yan Jiyun: “The transportation tools provided by the system are just for show. In the end, everyone still has to walk to Angel City.”

The Pegasus that fell from the sky was dead. They didn’t know whether the player who had ridden it was alive or dead. At least within the past one or two kilometers, Yan Jiyun hadn’t heard any human footsteps. The two of them silently began searching near where the Pegasus had fallen.

The player might have fainted somewhere, because there wasn’t a single sound. But he probably wasn’t dead, otherwise the system would already have broadcast the death loudly.

Yan Jiyun said, “As long as they deal with those monsters, they should be fine. But it’s also possible there will be more waves of monsters later.”

Hearing that, Chu Mo immediately became alert. “There wouldn’t be other monsters in the forest, right?”

The game wouldn’t let them off that easily.

Just one or two monsters would be an insult to the name “Demon Forest.”

Yan Jiyun shook his head. “I don’t know. Let’s go find the person who fell from the Pegasus.”

He was somewhat worried that the one who fell might be the shovel officer.

Chu Mo didn’t want to waste time. “Why look for them?”

Yan Jiyun obviously couldn’t tell him his real purpose. “Of course to extract some information from them. Only with complete information can we determine how to proceed. This is a monster forest.”

Chu Mo thought it made sense. It was just a bit more troublesome than leaving immediately. If he went alone to Angel City, he might still run into monsters anyway. Better listen to the temporary teammate’s suggestion.
