MHWFYYTMDF Chapter30

My Wife

Going home ah.

What a beautiful and desirable phrase.

It was also at this very moment that Song Li truly realized he was indeed someone who now had a home.

It was already past two in the afternoon by the time they returned home. This was the time of day when Song Li, since getting pregnant, was most prone to sleepiness; he had already been nodding off repeatedly on the way back. After they got out of the car, He Muyan wanted to carry him, but Song Li was too thin-skinned and refused no matter what.

The house was quiet, spacious, and bright. Song Li suddenly felt that the air here was indeed more comfortable.

He felt lazy and wanted to lie on the sofa, yet the moment his eyes landed on it, Pei Yuan’s face from earlier suddenly flashed through his mind.

Song Li felt nauseous again, standing on the spot and staring at the sofa without moving.

He Muyan walked over, following his gaze. “What’s wrong?”

Song Li pointed his finger at the sofa. “He Muyan, let’s throw it out.”

He Muyan was startled but still nodded. “Alright.”

Song Li swept his gaze around and pointed at the painting on the wall. “Throw that one out too.”

“Alright.”

“And that ornament, and that vase.”

“Alright.”

“I don’t want this submachine gun model either. Throw them all away.”

He Muyan replied with another “Alright.”

Feeling much better after speaking his mind, Song Li turned his head to look at him. “Aren’t you even going to ask me the reason? You just agree to everything.”

He Muyan looked at him. “Aren’t you throwing them out because you don’t like them? Since you don’t like them, we won’t keep them.”

Song Li let out an “en,” scratching his nose with his finger. “I originally liked them quite a bit, but I don’t like them now.”

“Then we won’t keep them.”

Song Li hadn’t expected him to be so easygoing. Suddenly wondering if he was being a bit too unreasonable, he looked up and asked him, “Am I being very spoiled and willful? Besides, these things must be very expensive. It’s a bit of a waste to just throw them away.”

He Muyan thought about it, seemingly not caring much. “It’s fine. Combined, they’re probably worth over a hundred thousand yuan or so.”

“Over a hundred thousand?” Song Li nearly choked on his own saliva. “That expensive!”

Afraid he would overthink it, He Muyan shook his head and said, “It’s not expensive.”

Not expensive my foot. Song Li wanted to roll his eyes. The thought of tossing over a hundred thousand yuan just like that really pained him. He had never been a spendthrift. After thinking for a moment, a great idea suddenly struck him. Clapping his hands together, he looked up at him. “We don’t necessarily have to throw them away. We can list them on Xianyu to sell!”

“Xianyu?” President He was clearly baffled.

Song Li explained enthusiastically, “It’s a second-hand trading app. The traffic there is huge! In the past, I used to sell all kinds of items; including things that I didn’t need any more but felt were too much of a waste to throw away. It actually brought in quite a bit of spare cash.”

Seeing how interested he seemed in this and how his eyes practically sparkled as he spoke, He Muyan couldn’t help but feel a bit happy too. “Alright. You can do whatever you want, just don’t tire yourself out too much.”

Song Li nodded eagerly, already imagining himself selling off those ridiculously expensive items and pocketing a tidy little fortune.

He was still scheming when he saw He Muyan step aside to answer a phone call. When the man returned, he looked at him with an apologetic expression. “Some work suddenly came up that I need to handle. I won’t be able to accompany you to rest.”

Song Li waved his hand. “Your work is important. I can sleep just fine by myself.”

Looking at him, He Muyan couldn’t help reaching out to ruffle his hair. After patting his head a couple of times, seemingly still not satisfied, he threaded his fingers through the soft strands, gently combing them back from the roots.

The gesture was far too intimate. Song Li’s scalp went numb; the tingling, itchy sensation made him subconsciously squint his eyes.

He Muyan watched him for a brief moment, then, for some reason, suddenly leaned down and kissed him.

Again, Song Li cried out inwardly. After being kissed for so long at the restaurant this morning, his lips were still swollen even now. Fortunately, he didn’t have to go out and see anyone today.

After kissing him for a bit, He Muyan also seemed to realize he was taking it a bit too far. Pulling back, he gave Song Li’s cheek a couple of gentle pinches before saying in a husky voice, “You’ve gotten far too thin lately. There’s barely any flesh left on your cheeks.”

Song Li hadn’t fully recovered from the kiss yet, and he didn’t understand how the man had suddenly jumped to the topic of his weight. Swallowing his saliva, he looked at him. “My face never really had much meat on it to begin with, right?”

“It did.” He Muyan was quite insistent, pinching him twice more. “You look better with a bit more meat. What do you want to eat today? I’ll have Auntie Chen make more of what you like.”

He had only just finished a satisfying meal not long ago, and now he was already being asked what he wanted to eat next. Song Li frowned, caught in a dilemma. “Just make something light. I just ate, so I don’t really have an appetite to think about food.”

He Muyan nodded. “Are you going to sleep now?”

Song Li let out a yawn, tilting his head slightly. “En, I’m sleepy.”

“I’ll take you upstairs first.”

Song Li felt he was really being too dramatic. Amused, he said, “It’s just going upstairs to sleep. I can manage by myself. Don’t you still have work? Hurry up and go get busy.”

Afraid the man would keep lingering there, he simply turned around and walked toward the stairs first.

He Muyan watched him from where he stood for a moment longer before finally heading to the study.

Once Song Li reached the second-floor bedroom, he collapsed onto the large bed. It was incredibly soft and comfortable. Of course, the bed in his own apartment was very comfortable too, but perhaps due to psychological reasons, he felt that He Muyan’s bed was just a bit softer and cozier.

Rolling over, he habitually pulled He Muyan’s pillow over and cradled it in his arms.

So tired. He was both exhausted and sleepy. As his nerves relaxed, his entire being was instantly enveloped in heavy drowsiness. Song Li’s eyelids felt incredibly heavy, and he fell asleep almost the instant he closed them.

This sleep felt like it lasted for a long time. When he woke up again, the light in the room had already dimmed. Song Li blinked and wanted to move, only to find an arm draped over his waist, holding him quite firmly. He couldn’t move even if he wanted to.

Song Li raised his head and saw He Muyan’s sleeping face with his eyes closed.

When did he come up? I didn’t feel anything.

Lately, he has been prone to oversleeping. Every time he woke up, He Muyan was already fully dressed and waiting for him. Come to think of it, it had been a long time since he last saw him sleeping.

He Muyan had mentioned that he had lost weight in the afternoon. But looking at him now, Song Li felt that He Muyan himself also seemed to have thinned down quite a bit. The lines of his jawline were even more pronounced than before. Still, he was so handsome; so very handsome. As Song Li stared, he couldn’t resist leaning up to press a soft kiss on him.

Perhaps he had been too impatient and kissed him a little too forcefully, because the “sleeping beauty” seemed to stir, a faint frown creasing his brow. Immediately afterward, a large hand clamped onto the back of Song Li’s neck and squeezed gently.

“You’re awake?”

Song Li shrunk his neck back slightly and tilted his chin up to look at him. “When did you come up? Is your work finished?”

He Muyan let out a soft “en,” his voice sounding a little raspy. “How could there ever be a time when work is completely finished? I handled some of the more urgent matters. But since I couldn’t stop worrying about you, I came up to take a look.”

Hearing him say this, Song Li’s face flushed slightly. “I was just sleeping. What is there to worry about?”

He Muyan stroked his hair. “I don’t know why, but I can only feel at ease when I’m looking at you.”

Was it just his imagination? He felt that ever since they reconciled after their fight, He Muyan had become incredibly smooth at saying sweet, pleasing words.

“Lili.”

While Song Li was still secretly rejoicing, he suddenly heard He Muyan call his name. His voice was somewhat low, causing Song Li’s heart to subconsciously skip a beat.

“What’s wrong?”

He Muyan looked down at him. “Now that you’ve had a nap, do you feel much more energetic?”

Song Li nodded gently. He felt much less oppressed both physically and mentally.

He Muyan brushed aside the hair on his forehead, fully revealing his clear, gentle eyes, then leaned down to plant a kiss on his brow bone. “Then shall we have a talk, okay?”

Song Li tilted his face up to look at him, blinking blankly, his expression utterly vacant.

He Muyan pinched his nose. “Don’t look at me like that. There are some things I never told you because I didn’t think it was necessary. Ever since I married you, our life has been peaceful and quiet; this is what I wanted, and I could tell you didn’t seem to object to it either. That’s why I felt whether I spoke of those things or not wasn’t all that important.”

“Or at least, that’s what I thought.” He Muyan sighed. “But ever since you got pregnant, some things seem to have slowly slipped out of my control. I’ve started to lose track of what’s on your mind, and I don’t know why you’d suddenly become unhappy when everything was perfectly fine. It feels like we’re lacking a lot of communication. Lili, is there something I haven’t done well enough?”

Song Li never expected He Muyan to suddenly lay his heart bare to him with so many words. Especially with the tone of that last sentence; in all the time he had known He Muyan, when had he ever seen him sound so humble and lacking in confidence?

He suddenly felt a pang of tenderness, shouting at himself in his mind: Song Li, you bastard, just count your blessings! How much merit did you have to accumulate in your past life to end up with a husband like He Muyan in this one! He Muyan is just a block of wood, straight as a steel rod. What the hell does he know about love and romance? He’s just settling down to live a life with you. Did you really expect him to be incredibly considerate and cater to your every mood?

Yet after shouting this in his mind, for some reason, he felt even worse. He looked up; He Muyan seemed to still be waiting for his answer, his dark eyes silent and resolute.

Song Li slowly exhaled, staring intently into those eyes until the unusual restlessness in his heart gradually settled.

He brushed He Muyan’s arm away and sat up. Meeting his puzzled gaze, he said word by word, “He Muyan, you are twenty-six years old, your birthday is October 15th, you own your own company, and you’re a big boss. You have a highly capable secretary and assistant, and a grand three-story house with a garden and a swimming pool in an affluent neighborhood where ordinary people couldn’t afford a single toilet in their entire lives. The housekeeper you hired is an amazing cook, and… you have a younger sister who looks like she’s still in high school…”

Song Li said all of this in one breath, then reached out to cup He Muyan’s face. “He Muyan, other than what I just mentioned, I know absolutely nothing about you. Your family, your friends… sometimes I even feel like I’m just an accessory in your life plan. It was time for you to get married, time for you to have a partner, and so I appeared in your life. Don’t you think doing this is highly unfair to me?”

Song Li seemed too emotional. He used quite a bit of force with both hands, squishing He Muyan’s face out of shape. Even so, He Muyan merely stared back at him quietly, his eyes completely calm and placid; it was a serene look that drove Song Li crazy inside.

“Forget it.”

Song Li let go of his face and turned around in anger, his slightly hunched back trembling uncontrollably.

The person behind him also seemed to sit up, the mattress dipping slightly. He Muyan slowly closed the distance between their bodies and, ignoring his slight resistance, firmly pulled him back into his arms.

“You missed one more point just now,” He Muyan whispered against his ear, his voice lingering and full of deep affection. “I also have a very well-behaved, obedient, and adorable wife. His name is Song Li.”
