MHWFYYTMDF Chapter28

Don't Want To

Don’t Want To

Not long after Xue Sang and his boyfriend went out; the bedroom door was gently pushed open once again. A rich, mouthwatering aroma drifted into Song Li’s nose, and before he could even react, his stomach growled loudly ahead of the rest of him.

He couldn’t help but roll over, only to see Ye Yi standing by the bedside holding a tray. Smiling, Ye Yi said, “You must be starving. No matter what, you shouldn’t take things out on your body. Eat something first.”

Song Li sniffled, feeling a bit embarrassed. “I’m sorry. Is Xiao Sang doing okay?”

“He’s fine.” Ye Yi placed the bowl on the nightstand. “He ate two bowls of noodles and is currently digesting them.”

Hearing his words, Song Li let out a soft laugh. Bracing himself against the pillow, he sat up. “I’ll do it myself. Thank you.”

Ye Yi nodded and placed the chopsticks across the bowl. “Eat it while it’s hot.”

With that, he didn’t stay any longer and headed straight out of the bedroom.

Song Li looked at his tall, broad back. He really is a good man.

The noodles smelled incredibly fragrant, authentic Old Beijing zhajiang noodles. The enticing sauce topping was sprinkled with fresh green scallions, and a poached egg rested on top, looking absolutely mouthwatering.

Xue Sang indeed hadn’t boasted. Song Li was incredibly hungry; he took a mouthful with his chopsticks, and the taste was so good he wanted to give it a thumb-up.

After taking a couple of bites, he suddenly remembered that He Muyan had actually made noodles for him once before. However, as a big boss who had never dirtied his hands with domestic chores, He Muyan was doing well just to cook the noodles through; the taste left a lot to be desired.

Song Li still remembered that night when he had thrown up everything after eating the dishes Auntie Chen made, only to end up so starving in the middle of the night that he couldn’t bear it. He Muyan had gone into the kitchen to cook a bowl of noodles for him. Afterward, he mentioned that it was the first time in his life he had ever cooked. The noodles had been incredibly bland, and He Muyan had even blistered his hand in the process.

While teasing him, Song Li had finished more than half of that bowl of noodles.

It tasted terrible, yet he hadn’t thrown up.

As he thought about it, Song Li suddenly felt that the visually stunning and delicious zhajiang noodles in front of him had instantly lost its flavor.

He really wanted to eat the plain noodles cooked by He Muyan.

Or perhaps, the one he was missing wasn’t the noodles at all, but the person who made them.

In the end, Song Li didn’t finish the bowl of noodles. His fever hadn’t fully broken yet, and he really didn’t have much of an appetite. After eating just a few bites, he set his chopsticks down.

Moreover, he had miraculously not thrown up today. Song Li lay back down on the bed before placing his right hand over his stomach, subconsciously stroking it gently.

He recalled his argument with Xue Sang just now over the little guy in his belly. Xue Sang had told him to get an abortion without a second thought. When he refused, Xue Sang had given him a harsh, relentless tongue-lashing.

The thought suddenly made him want to laugh a little. When he was overthinking all by himself, he had been wildly conflicted over whether or not to get an abortion. Yet now, just because Xue Sang had brought it up, he actually had such a strong, resistant reaction.

What should he do? Was he really so deeply in love with He Muyan that, in such a short amount of time, he had developed such a deep, inseparable attachment to the child in his stomach?

Perhaps because he had slept too much during the day, Song Li found himself unable to fall asleep now that it was actually nighttime, lying in bed with his eyes wide open.

Xue Sang and Ye Yi probably hadn’t left yet. Song Li could occasionally hear the sound of voices outside, but after a while, even that bit of noise vanished, and his surroundings fell completely silent.

After lying there for a while, Song Li felt thirsty. He got out of bed and went out to find some water.

The lights in the living room weren’t on. As Song Li was groping in the dark to find the switch, he suddenly heard the sound of the front door slamming shut with a bang.

Startled, he subconsciously asked, “Who’s there?”

A figure walked over from the doorway, speaking to him in a rough, gruff voice, “What are you doing out here instead of sleeping!”

It was Xue Sang. Song Li let out a sigh of relief. “You’re asking me? It looks like you just got back from outside. Where did you go in the middle of the night?”

Xue Sang seemed to wipe his face with his hand, his expression unreadable in the dark. “I was in a bad mood, so I went out for a walk. I ran into a scumbag and got into a fight with him.”

Song Li was speechless. Did this guy have some kind of problem?

“Are you in a better mood now?”

Xue Sang gave an “en” sound. “Much better. I’m going to sleep; you should get back inside too.”

With that, he brushed past him and headed toward the guest bedroom next door.

Song Li watched his retreating figure, finding it a bit baffling.

He drank some water, returned to his room, and lay down in bed to try and force some sleep. Just as he closed his eyes, he heard his phone vibrate twice beside him.

Unable to resist, he picked it up to take a look. It was actually a WeChat message from He Muyan.

This was the very first message he had received from He Muyan since he left this morning.

No, it wasn’t just one message; there were several.

President He: You have a fever?

President He: Did you take medicine?

President He: Does your body still feel uncomfortable?

President He: Have you been eating properly? Even if you might throw up, you should still try to eat a little.

President He: It’s too late, you must have already fallen asleep.

President He: I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have sent you these messages. I just couldn’t help myself.

Heavens, he had no idea He Muyan was actually such a chatterbox on WeChat.

Whenever they were face-to-face, he’d never heard the man say so many words in one go. Holding his phone, Song Li found himself hesitating, unsure whether he should reply.

After all, he had left under the pretense of throwing a tantrum, and he was technically still angry. If he immediately and eagerly replied the second He Muyan sent him messages, what kind of fight would that even be?

With this thought, Song Li forced himself to retract his hand just as he was about to type a reply. Forcing himself to look away from the messages on the screen, he turned off his phone and tossed it aside.

The result of doing this was that he was forced to suffer from insomnia for most of the night, spending the vast majority of that time staring blankly at his phone.

This ordeal made him deeply realize one fact:

Fighting with He Muyan was truly too difficult.

He just couldn’t bring himself to be ruthless enough.

He only fell into a hazy sleep close to dawn, but a sudden knock on the door jolted him awake from his slumber once again.

Incredibly sleepy, Song Li rubbed his eyes as he got out of bed to open the door. “Who is it?”

Xue Sang was standing at his door fully dressed in a large pair of sunglasses resting on his face, which made his palm-sized face look even smaller. “I’m not feeling well. Accompany me to the hospital.”

Startled by this grand display, Song Li was no longer sleepy. Swallowing his half-finished yawn, he reached out to feel his forehead. “Wearing those oversized sunglasses indoors, you really do have something wrong with you.”

Xue Sang slapped his hand away, saying impatiently, “Hurry up and change your clothes. I made an appointment with the doctor, and if we go late, we won’t make it in time.”

Song Li looked at him for a moment, unable to see where exactly he was feeling unwell given how energetic he seemed. He leaned lazily against the doorframe. “I’m not feeling well physically either. Let Ye Yi go with you. I don’t want to go out; I just want to sleep at home.”

“Ye Yi went to work.” Xue Sang let out a “tsk,” the face beneath the sunglasses darkening. “Song Li, you’ve changed. Is being married that amazing? Is having a husband that incredible? Can’t you even accompany your good brother to the hospital when he’s sick?”

“No…” Song Li hadn’t expected him to take it so seriously and didn’t dare treat it as a joke anymore. He stood up straight helplessly. “Fine, fine, fine, I’ll go with you. Wait for me for a moment, I’ll go inside and change my clothes.”

It was not yet nine o’clock when the two of them headed out. Since this time was already past the morning rush hour, the roads weren’t too congested. Xue Sang drove them to the hospital, getting there in less than half an hour.

The moment he got out of the car, Song Li rushed over to a nearby trash can and dry-heaved wildly. His body had already been highly sensitive lately, and having skipped breakfast, he definitely couldn’t handle sitting in a car for that long.

Xue Sang patted his back from behind. Feeling both distressed and angry, he gritted his teeth and scolded him, “Serves you right.”

After throwing up, Song Li felt completely drained. He slumped against the wall with his face deathly pale and his breath faint. Standing beside the energetic Xue Sang, it was hard to tell who was actually the one here to see the doctor today.

Xue Sang asked him, “Can you walk?”

Song Li shook his head, looking weak and fragile. “Carry me on your back.”

“You might as well ride on my shoulders.” Xue Sang smacked him crossly. “Stop messing around and let’s go. It’s almost time for the appointment.”

Song Li had no choice but to follow him forward, taking the elevator to the eighth floor. The moment they stepped out, Song Li felt something was off. Since it was still fairly early, the waiting lobby wasn’t very crowded, but a glance around showed that nearly everyone there was a woman.

There were men too, like him and Xue Sang.

Song Li subconsciously scanned his surroundings, only to abruptly spot the two glittering, bright words “Gynecology” on the glowing directory sign overhead.

Just as I thought. Song Li sucked in a breath. Looking at Xue Sang’s back as he inquired at the service desk, he spun right around to leave.

The moment Xue Sang turned around and saw his retreating figure slipping away, he ran over and grabbed him by the collar. “What the hell are you running for?!”

Song Li turned and violently slapped his hand away. “How do you have the nerve to ask me? Look at what department you brought me to! Is it you seeing the doctor, or me? Xue Sang, you did this on purpose, didn’t you?!”

Xue Sang’s temper was also ignited by his shouting. “Song Li, can you have some goddamn decency? Isn’t my bringing you here for an exam for your own good? You’re a man. I don’t believe that you would actually…”

Xue Sang really couldn’t bring himself to utter the words that followed. He wiped his face and gritted his teeth. “The doctor I booked was recommended by a very good friend of mine. His medical skills and ethics are excellent. Just let him take a look. If you don’t have that, then of course that’s for the best. But if it’s true, it’s only the first two months, which is the perfect time to get rid of it early. Cut the knot quickly…”

“I don’t want to!”

Song Li cut him off, trembling all over with anger as he took step after step backward. His two hands unconsciously guarded his stomach in a defensive posture. “Xue Sang, I won’t abort him. This is my own business, and I can make my own decisions. Don’t worry, I’ve already thought it through. No matter what happens, I won’t regret it.”

“Song Li!” Xue Sang looked at him in disbelief. “Do you even know what you’re saying?”

“Of course he knows.”

A cold, low, deep voice suddenly rang out behind them. Before Song Li even had time to turn and look, he was pulled into a firm, solid embrace.

He hurriedly lifted his head, his tear-filled eyes too blurred to make out anything clearly, only catching sight of the man’s sharp, defined jawline.

He Muyan tightened his grip on Song Li’s shoulder, looking down coldly at Xue Sang opposite them.

His aura was too powerful, to the extent that passersby would easily be intimidated by it, if not for those highly noticeable bruises on his handsome face.

Looking at his bruised and comical face, Xue Sang gritted his teeth and cursed fiercely, “I should have thrown a few more goddamn punches at you yesterday.”
