AMBTICBPIB Chapter 65

Can We Sleep in Separate Beds?

As the weather grew increasingly hot, Shen Jin soon lost one of his privileges: Chu Yi no longer allowed him to hold him while sleeping at night.

Faced with Shen Jin’s mournful gaze, Chu Yi explained, “It’s too hot to be held.”

If it were winter, Chu Yi would have clung to Shen Jin like a warm furnace every night. But this was summer.

For some reason, Chu Yi had become particularly sensitive to heat lately. He hadn’t been this bothered by it before. Dr. Meng explained that it was due to his pregnancy, which raised his body temperature slightly.

Chu Yi had just stepped out of the shower when Shen Jin was already waiting with a hairdryer to dry his hair. After each bath, Shen Jin always dried Chu Yi’s hair first before letting him do anything else.

As Shen Jin gently towel-dried his hair, Chu Yi decided to bring up something he’d been mulling over during his shower.

Chu Yi softly suggested, “Can we sleep in separate beds? It’s so hot sleeping together.”

Shen Jin immediately refused. “No.”

He gently wiped a bead of water from Chu Yi’s neck. *Fine, no holding me, but sleeping apart? Absolutely not,* Shen Jin thought. “That’s not happening.”

Chu Yi pouted. “But it’s so hot sleeping together.”

“Don’t you want to touch my abs anymore?” Shen Jin asked. “Don’t you want to sleep with your hand on my abs?”

Chu Yi hesitated. *He’s right,* he thought. *If we sleep separately, I won’t be able to touch Shen Jin’s abs.* This realization immediately dispelled his desire to sleep apart.

Shen Jin had never imagined his abs would be so useful. *I guess I need to maintain them properly from now on,* he thought.

Having resolved the issue of Chu Yi wanting to sleep separately, Shen Jin began drying Chu Yi’s hair, adjusting the dryer to the most comfortable temperature and airflow.

His movements were gentle as he dried Chu Yi’s hair, who closed his eyes in contentment.

While Shen Jin dried his hair, Chu Yi played on his phone.

Chu Yi’s hair was soft and thick, and when dried, it felt wonderfully fluffy to the touch. Shen Jin always massaged it for a while after drying it.

Once his hair was dry, Chu Yi lay on the bed, playing games while waiting for Shen Jin.

Shen Jin emerged from the bathroom wearing only a towel around his waist. Seeing him, Chu Yi immediately put his phone aside and gazed at him expectantly.

As soon as Shen Jin got into bed, Chu Yi nestled into his arms, his hand resting on Shen Jin’s abs.

While touching his abs, Chu Yi chatted with Shen Jin, telling him how his belly seemed to have grown a little bigger today and how the baby had kicked him again. Before long, Chu Yi drifted off to sleep.

Chu Yi felt too hot and often kicked the summer quilt aside in his sleep. Shen Jin had to cover him several times each night.

Eventually, Shen Jin started holding Chu Yi in his arms. This prevented him from kicking off the quilt, and even if Chu Yi did manage to kick it away, Shen Jin would immediately notice.

Half-asleep, Chu Yi still felt too hot and tried to push Shen Jin away, but he couldn’t budge this human furnace.

Shen Jin murmured soothingly, “Chu Yi, stop fussing. Go back to sleep.”

Under Shen Jin’s gentle coaxing, Chu Yi grumbled twice before drifting back into a deep slumber.

In the middle of the night, a thunderstorm suddenly erupted outside. After a few thunderous booms, heavy rain began to fall.

The torrential downpour and claps of thunder jolted Chu Yi awake.

Nestled in Shen Jin’s arms, he mumbled, “It’s so noisy.”

Before he could finish, a large, warm hand gently covered his ear. Shen Jin whispered, “It’s raining outside. I’ll cover your ear so you can’t hear it.”

Chu Yi opened his eyes just as a lightning flash illuminated the room, revealing Shen Jin’s handsome face as he gazed down at him.

Seeing that face calmed Chu Yi’s agitation. With Shen Jin’s hand muffling the thunder, the noise was significantly reduced.

Shen Jin asked, “Can you still hear it?”

Chu Yi removed Shen Jin’s hand. “With your hand covering my ear, I can barely hear it.”

“Then go to sleep,” Shen Jin said. “It’s already late. With me here, you won’t be disturbed.”

His large hands blocked out the thunder that Chu Yi hated.

Chu Yi closed his eyes again. Outside, lightning still flashed and thunder still roared, but in Chu Yi’s world, there was only peace and quiet.

Someone was watching over him, protecting him, caring for him.

Just as he was drifting off to sleep, Chu Yi murmured, “Shen Jin, I really like you.”

Shen Jin looked at the person in his arms in surprise, unsure if Chu Yi was speaking consciously or in his sleep. Either way, his heart swelled with joy.

That night, Chu Yi slept soundly.

When Chu Yi woke up, he felt like he had dreamed of a thunderstorm. He asked Shen Jin, “Did it rain in the middle of the night?”

“Yes,” Shen Jin replied.

“For how long?”

“Over two hours.”

Chu Yi pursed his lips. So it wasn’t a dream—it had really rained. He hadn’t woken up even once, which meant Shen Jin had been covering his ears the entire time, barely getting any sleep himself.

Chu Yi looked down to see Shen Jin kneeling in front of him, putting on his socks.

Chu Yi suddenly fell silent. Shen Jin looked up and saw his eyes were red-rimmed. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

Chu Yi smiled. “I’m just happy. I’m not feeling unwell.”

After putting on his socks, Chu Yi asked, “Can I go to the hospital with you?”

Today was Shen Jin’s checkup day.

“Sure,” Shen Jin replied. It was also Chu Yi’s prenatal appointment.

After a period of acupuncture treatment, Shen Jin’s peripheral nerves had recovered remarkably well. He was gradually regaining sensation, though the intensity of his perception still differed from that of a normal person.

For example, a pain that would feel like a bone fracture to others might register as a light touch to Shen Jin. This remained dangerous, but the return of sensation was a significant improvement, and full recovery seemed within reach.

Shen Jin’s physical condition remained even healthier than that of an average person.

Chu Yi’s health was also excellent, and the baby in his womb was developing perfectly.

Dr. Meng observed the couple. Neither of them seemed particularly curious about the baby’s gender.

For Shen Jin and Chu Yi, the baby’s health was all that mattered. As for the gender, they would find out on the day of the birth—a surprise to look forward to.

After leaving the hospital, Shen Jin had a meeting to attend. He hadn’t expected Chu Yi to come with him.

Chu Yi said, “It’s fine, go to your meeting. I’ll wander around by myself for a bit and head back soon.”

Shen Jin glanced at him. “Do you really think I’d let you wander around alone?”

Chu Yi chuckled. “Just teasing. I’ll come to the office with you. I really like that Assistant Sister.”

Shen Jin raised an eyebrow. “Hmm?”

Chu Yi explained, “She always brings me delicious snacks and drinks.”

Shen Jin went to his meeting after making arrangements for Chu Yi. Before leaving, he repeatedly reminded him not to sneak out and promised to take him shopping after the meeting.

Chu Yi had no idea his casual remark had made Shen Jin so anxious.

While Shen Jin was in his meeting, Chu Yi waited alone in Shen Jin’s spacious office.

The Assistant Sister, worried he might be bored, brought him snacks, desserts, and drinks.

“Thank you, Sister Xiaolan,” Chu Yi said.

Hearing Chu Yi call her “Sister Xiaolan” nearly made her burst with joy. She genuinely adored him—his smile was radiant, and his voice was so sweet when he called her “Sister,” it was impossible not to like him.

As Xiaolan put her things down, Chu Yi noticed a bracelet on her wrist that looked vaguely familiar.

Suddenly, he remembered: it was one he had sold on the website.

Back then, Shen Chunhan had given him many gifts. Instinctively, Chu Yi had distanced himself from Shen Chunhan, disliking the gifts he received. After keeping only what he could use, Chu Yi had listed the rest for sale on the website.

At first, he encountered two particularly annoying and opportunistic buyers, which left him quite frustrated. But soon after, he met a wonderful buyer who purchased everything.

Chu Yi froze. Could Sister Xiaolan be that kind-hearted buyer? He had finally met the person who had shown him such kindness!

“Sister Xiaolan, your bracelet is beautiful.”

“Isn’t it lovely?” Xiaolan chuckled, shaking her wrist. “I think so too.”

“Sister Xiaolan, may I ask where you got it?”

Xiaolan’s smile widened. “I didn’t buy it. It’s a company perk from President Shen.”
