WCHM Chapter 61

[Second World – ABO Plot – Poor Beta Student] Chapter 61

Lu Chi’s pheromones were extremely faint, yet impossible to ignore, just like the man himself. He appeared quiet and reserved, yet drew countless eyes without realizing it.

Originally, he couldn’t smell pheromones at all.

It was only because the system was screaming in his head that the Main Shou had gone into heat that Lu Chi stopped and turned around in bewilderment.

So… What just happened?

How had the Main Shou suddenly gone into heat?!

Slightly stunned, Lu Chi wondered if the legendary 99% compatibility between the Protagonist and the Main Shou really existed; otherwise, how could they force each other into heat the moment they met?!

Yu Kexing met those faintly surprised light brown eyes as rare beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. The throat that was usually so eloquent seemed clogged by something. His mouth went dry, and his heart raced uncontrollably.

…Was this what forced heat felt like?

Subconsciously, Yu Kexing inhaled the faint fragrance lingering in the air, suppressing the unfamiliar emotions boiling within him. After several seconds, he barely managed to regain his composure.

“Sorry. It’s probably because my pheromones have been unstable lately, causing my heat cycle to arrive early.”

A flush had spread across the Omega’s delicate features, yet perhaps due to special training, he didn’t appear particularly disheveled. He still maintained control over his physical reactions and was able to converse with Lu Chi normally.

Lu Chi paused and glanced at the sinisterly calm Lin Jingsi standing behind him before kindly pointing out: “I don’t think you should be apologizing to me.”

The one who looked ready to start killing people seemed to be someone else entirely.

The system, having already been frightened into peeing itself twice by the Protagonist, still refused to give up its little fetish. Weak but determined, it dragged itself upright and excitedly virtually plastered itself against Lu Chi’s face, shouting, [This is great! It’s a love-triangle showdown! We’re saved!]

[Fight! Fight! You’re all my Baby’s dogs!]

It almost seemed as though Yu Kexing had heard the system’s wish, because he actually took two steps forward. Covering his heated gland with one hand, he looked at Lu Chi, acting as though he couldn’t sense the Alpha’s presence behind him at all.

“There are suppressants on my aircraft. Five minutes after taking one, the symptoms will be gone. Are you free later?”

“It’s our first meeting. I’d like to get to know you.”

“Get to know me?” Lu Chi raised an eyebrow.

“I’ve sent you several friend requests,” Yu Kexing nodded, “but you never accepted any of them.”

The Omega had already regained his usual calmness. A faint smile even appeared in his refined, delicate features. Blessed with excellent conditions from birth, he had developed well. At almost one meter eighty tall, he was nearly eye-level with Lu Chi. When he looked at people, his expression was gentle and his voice soft and considerate.

“Lu Chi, did I accidentally offend you somehow?” he continued. “If I did, I can apologize right now. Can you forgive me?”

A remarkably talented actor.

Lu Chi smiled but said nothing. Only then did Yu Kexing seem to remember something as he finally turned around and looked at the cold, expressionless Alpha standing behind him.

Realization dawned across his face.

“Ah, is it because Senior Lin is here, making things inconvenient?”

“We’re only trying to be friends. Surely he wouldn’t mind. Betas are already excluded from mainstream society. If even this little bit of freedom is taken away, that would be rather pitiful, wouldn’t it? Senior Lin, don’t you agree?”

Lin Jingsi didn’t answer.

The Alpha’s handsome features remained indifferent. Expressionless, he drew the laser pistol still hanging at his waist and pointed its black muzzle directly at the Omega’s head, saying, “Get out.”

Yu Kexing paused.

The air was filled with the violently colliding scents of two people’s pheromones, but the biological structures of Alphas and Omegas complemented one another. If they occupied the same space, it could easily provoke desire and longing in the other party.

Yet Yu Kexing’s pheromones resembled the ocean tide at dawn, carrying an undercurrent of salt and hidden danger. Meeting Lin Jingsi’s cold gaze, he actually smiled, and not a trace of fear appeared as he stood his ground.

After all, his fear had long since drowned beneath hatred and disgust during that dream.

The Omega curled his lips upward. His voice carried a slight huskiness from his heat cycle as he coolly addressed Lin Jingsi.

“I’m an A-rank Omega, the Yu family’s only candidate for a political marriage alliance. Even in the Legion territory, nobody would dare lay a hand on me.”

“Lin Jingsi, what exactly are you planning to do? Publicly murder a conglomerate heir and start a civil conflict within the Federation?”

Lin Jingsi narrowed his eyes.

Click.

The Alpha lowered the gun from Yu Kexing’s head and aimed it directly at his heart instead. Calmly, he repeated: “I said, get out.”

“Lin Jingsi, would you really shoot me in front of Lu Chi?” The Omega’s smile remained faint and unchanged.

“……”

At that, even the system in Lu Chi’s head was stunned, shouting in excitement:

[Holy shit, Main Shou, you’ve got guts…! I officially permit you to become my Baby’s lapdog!]

The pheromones in the air had reached an overwhelming intensity. As for Lu Chi, he found the entire confrontation completely baffling. He genuinely couldn’t understand why the Protagonist and the Main Shou were about to start fighting the moment they met.

Slightly dazed, he blinked and was just about to say something when a deafening gunshot suddenly rang out.

Without the slightest hesitation, Lin Jingsi pulled the trigger. His expression was cold and vicious, and the blast of laser fire was so bright it forced everyone to squint. The system immediately broke down and screamed:

[The main cast can’t die! The Protagonist is insane! Host, what do we do, what do we do, wha… huh??]

When the light faded, a metal shield engraved with a lotus emblem stood several meters away, its surface scorched black from the impact. Yu Kexing stood behind it, expressionless, pulling a suppressant injector from his sleeve and forcefully jabbing it into the side of his neck.

After the injection, his left hand moved.

The shield instantly transformed in an almost unbelievable manner, smoothly and rapidly folding back into the shape of a human arm before reattaching itself to his body.

Lin Jingsi narrowed his eyes, staring coldly at the Omega’s joints.

“Mechanical modification.”

Yu Kexing had undergone the highest-level mechanical augmentation available from the Hometown Group.

In other words, he had rebuilt himself.

Yu Kexing smiled faintly. The effects of his heat were fading, and his gaze regained clarity.

“This is a new technology independently developed by the Yu family,” he introduced. “It can withstand attacks of this level, and the production cost is relatively low. It may even become cheaper in the future.”

The implication was subtle.

The Legion had only just introduced a new class of weapons, and the Hometown Group had immediately developed corresponding defensive materials. A few days earlier, after meeting Luo Zexu, Yu Kexing had already finalized a cooperation agreement with the Research Institute.

Together, they intended to suppress the increasingly active influence of the Legion.

Lin Jingsi looked at him, but…

He couldn’t have cared less.

“Get out.”

“….”

“Lin Jingsi, what exactly is your problem?” Yu Kexing’s expression cooled.

Of course, he had come carrying the Yu family’s agenda. He simply hadn’t expected to run into Lu Chi here, nor had he expected himself to suddenly go into heat. For perhaps the first time in years, Yu Kexing had lost control, and even after realizing the relationship between Lu Chi and Lin Jingsi, he still couldn’t stop himself from wanting to talk to him.

Who exactly was Lu Chi? Why had he never appeared in the dream?

Had he been deceived or coerced into becoming involved with Lin Jingsi?

That was why he had deliberately spoken to Lu Chi right in front of the Alpha. Considering the interests of the families behind them, Yu Kexing had assumed Lin Jingsi would at least restrain the violence lurking in his nature.

Wasn’t that how he’d been in the dream?

Allowing the Legion to use his name for propaganda, going on murderous rampages whenever his secondary differentiation spiraled out of control… Being restrained and controlled by the Legion afterward.

And once he regained his senses, he simply returned to serving them without emotion.

The Lin Jingsi of the dream had been a monster without feelings. Yu Kexing stared at him, disgust filling his eyes, as the hatred in his chest surged upward. In the end, he couldn’t resist mocking him, “Senior Lin, you seem awfully agitated.”

“You can’t even control your pheromones.”

“I’ve heard older Alphas all become like this. How pitiful… Your pheromones smell like blood. I suppose only a Beta who can’t smell them would be able to suppress the instinctive urge to vomit…”

Bang!

Without warning, the Alpha suddenly stepped forward and kicked him directly in the temple. Yu Kexing was no match for him, and the blow landed instantly.

The titanium-alloy skull beneath his synthetic flesh visibly deformed, caving inward in a horrifying curve, as the Omega was sent tumbling across the room and crashed into the wall. When he looked up again, he coughed blood.

Half-kneeling on the floor, he stared at Lin Jingsi in shock.

“Are you insane?!”

Was he actually trying to kill him?

“Activate S76 laser cannon,” Lin Jingsi replied calmly. “Lock onto coordinates 7/2.”

The moment the words left his mouth, rows of black cannon barrels descended from the ceiling and rotated toward Yu Kexing. The lounge AI spoke in its usual gentle voice:

[S76 activated. Firing at designated coordinates. Countdown: 10, 9, 8…]

For the first time, genuine alarm appeared in Yu Kexing’s eyes, as that wasn’t a handheld laser weapon.

It was something that could actually kill him!

So he immediately raised his right arm, as the prosthetic limb rapidly transformed into a firearm equipped with a rotating chamber. He fired several shots at Lin Jingsi in quick succession, intending to kill him first and cancel the command.

In an instant, the entire living room became a battlefield.

Lin Jingsi let out a cold laugh and expressionlessly drew his weapon as he advanced…

“Stop.”

The long-haired Beta lightly leapt between them, as one hand pressed gently against the Alpha’s arm.

“Withdraw the order.”

Lin Jingsi froze, but the AI recognized the voice of its other owner and immediately obeyed, halting the attack.

Yu Kexing looked up, frowning tightly.

“Lu Chi, you…”

“You shut up too.”

Lu Chi turned toward him, strode forward several steps, and smacked him hard on the top of the head.

Clang!

A metallic echo rang out from the Omega’s reinforced skull, and Lu Chi hissed.

The impact had actually hurt his hand, ah!

Yu Kexing pressed his lips together, staring at Lu Chi’s pink knuckles… and at the sparkling diamond ring on his finger. Suddenly, the Omega reached out. Without warning, he gently touched the back of Lu Chi’s hand as his voice softened, “Sorry. My skull has been mechanically enhanced too…”

“Did that hurt when you hit me?”

“…”

[Damn, he actually dared to touch you?!] The system in his head was stunned. [Main Shou, I’m genuinely starting to admire you…]

Out of the corner of his eye, Lu Chi noticed the veins bulging on Lin Jingsi’s forehead. Amused, he clicked his tongue and pulled his hand free, signaling, “You shut up.”

Then, looking down at Yu Kexing from above, he paused for a moment. Unexpectedly, he actually extended his hand toward him in a formal greeting.

Yu Kexing froze. Instinctively, he reached out as well and immediately grasped Lu Chi’s hand, but a Beta’s body temperature tended to run cool. His skin was smooth and chilled like jade, soft and delicate to the touch.

One stood while the other knelt.

Looking up, Yu Kexing saw the silver-gray hair falling around Lu Chi’s face and those light eyes carrying the faintest trace of a smile. The heartbeat in his chest accelerated again, as his gland burned hot, his thoughts turning chaotic.

Unable to stop himself, he spoke, “Hello. My name is Yu Kexing. A-grade Omega. Twenty-one years old. Never been in a relationship.”

“Hello,” Lu Chi laughed, casually shaking the Main Shou’s hand. “I’m Lu Chi.”

Then he withdrew his hand without hesitation and returned to Lin Jingsi’s side, just in time to restrain the mad dog who looked ready to bite someone.

The Alpha grabbed Lu Chi’s hand and expressionlessly rubbed it several times, as though wiping off something dirty. Then he tightened his grip, interlocking their fingers.

As for Lu Chi, he let him do as he pleased. Tilting his head toward Yu Kexing, he spoke lazily, “Introductions are done. You can leave now.”

Yu Kexing stared at their intertwined hands. After a long pause, he rose to his feet despite the dent still visible in his skull and brushed the dust from his clothes.

The smile returned to his face.

His dark eyes beneath his black hair remained calm and courteous as he produced an invitation card and placed it on the cluttered counter, saying, “Hometown Group hopes to cooperate with the Legion on research related to humanoid technologies. If Senior Lin is interested, please visit the Noah Star Ring after the combat tournament.”

“We look forward to your arrival.”

Then he looked at Lu Chi again. After a brief pause, his voice softened.

“I’m very glad to have met you, Lu Chi.”

“If you need any help during the tournament, please contact me. I’ll do everything I can to assist you.”

“I look forward to seeing you again.”

And with that, the door closed behind him, and Yu Kexing finally left.

The AI immediately began cycling fresh air through the room. As soon as Lu Chi turned around, Lin Jingsi pulled him into a crushing embrace. The Alpha’s expression was frighteningly dark. Staring at him, his voice hoarse, he asked: “Do you like Omegas?”

Before Lu Chi could answer, he continued expressionlessly, “I’m not accusing you. It’s normal if you do.”

“The Legion has mechanical augmentation technology too. Whatever type you like, I can modify myself into it.”

“…”

Lu Chi… Lu Chi actually laughed. But after laughing, he still let out a sigh and called his name.

“Lin Jingsi.”

“Mm.”

Looking at the man who seemed prepared to climb onto an operating table at any moment, Lu Chi wrapped an arm around the back of his neck and kissed the corner of his lips.

“A little tired. Help me take a bath?”

“…”

Lin Jingsi’s breathing immediately shifted. Without a word, he scooped Lu Chi up with one arm and strode into the bathroom.

Bang!

The door slammed shut, and warm water quickly filled the air with steam. Amid the endless heat and moisture, Lu Chi once again melted into Lin Jingsi’s embrace. Leaning lightly against his shoulder, he smiled as he accepted one kiss after another. Like a cloud that could somehow be caught and locked inside someone’s arms, light, beautiful, and impossible to hold.

Did Lu Chi like Alphas or Omegas? Did he prefer gentleness or violence?

Holding that cloud in his arms, Lin Jingsi spiraled further and further into insecurity. He pressed close, desperately seeking reassurance, overwhelmed by the fear of losing him.

Lu Chi tangled his fingers in the Alpha’s hair. Between suffocating desire and overwhelming relief, Lin Jingsi heard his quiet laughter as he said:

“I like obedient, little dogs.”

Lin Jingsi tightened his hold around the slender Beta. After a long kiss, he clasped Lu Chi’s hand and answered hoarsely: “Then don’t throw me away.”

“Lu Chi, I love you.”

As long as he could stay with Lu Chi, nothing else mattered.

“…”

After an entire lifetime apart, he finally said those words again. Love, Lu Chi smiled. Gently stroking the back of his head, he sighed softly after a moment.

“I know.” Then he repeated, “I know, Lin Jingsi.”

…………………………

Two days passed in the blink of an eye, and Lu Chi was still synchronizing with the system.

In this world, mechas normally required a connection to “Cocoon” for assisted operation. But because Lu Chi possessed the system’s consciousness, he could use it directly as his support AI, which suited him far better.

The problem was that they seemed strangely incompatible.

Every time Lu Chi used his spiritual power to connect with the system, both his nerves and the system’s consciousness would ache. However, neither of them ever complained.

The little system gritted its virtual teeth and practiced relentlessly, just like it had once practiced learning to crawl. It never cried out or whined. People often said pets tended to resemble their owners. Perhaps that was why Lu Chi’s cat had been just as stubborn and thick-headed as he was.

Its bones were especially hard.

And it made people want to spoil it.

When Lu Chi had heard that comparison before, he hadn’t argued. Instead, he’d gone home, picked up his silly cat, studied it for a moment, and happily wiped away its drool.

“Not bad. You’re just as cute as me,” he praised it.

“Very good.”

Now, just like before, they were each working hard in their own way, while Lin Jingsi served as an exceptionally experienced coach. Even on the night before the tournament, he was still teaching Lu Chi how to blow off an opponent’s head with a single shot.

The system listened with complete seriousness, clenching its little paws.

[Baby, don’t worry! I’ll definitely blow them all up!]

…After all, the Protagonist had said it himself:

If anyone dies, it’s on me.

Lu Chi merely smiled and said nothing.

After a night’s sleep, he arrived at the D-Rank battlefield according to academy regulations. Lin Jingsi resembled a parent sending their child to the college entrance exams. For once, he looked visibly anxious throughout the trip. At one point, he even considered blowing up the entire competition venue so Lu Chi could have more time to train…

Raising an eyebrow, Lu Chi stopped him. Then he nimbly jumped from the airship and calmly walked into the arena.

Looking up, he heard the announcement echo across the stadium:

[D-Rank Battlefield Tournament begins. First contestant: First-year student of the Federal Academy Department of Intelligent Mechanics, Beta Lu Chi…]

The entire Floating Island arena erupted in astonishment.

“A Beta?!”

“Did ‘Cocoon’ malfunction? How can a Beta compete?!”

“Holy shit, the forum rumors were actually true?!”

Inside the enormous, noisy arena, Lu Chi stood behind the opening metal gates and walked out at an unhurried pace as countless cameras immediately zoomed in, eager to capture the face hidden beneath his long bangs.

Then…

The long-haired Beta suddenly pulled out an electronic banner. Calmly holding it in front of his face, he displayed it directly to the cameras.

[Need a fortune-telling master? Come find Master Lulu!]

[10% off Tarot readings! 20% off curses! Palm-reading special: will your bones get broken?]

[What are you waiting for? Add Master’s contact code now: B-1121…]

“……”

The entire venue fell into eerie silence. Looking straight into the cameras, Lu Chi paused. Then he raised a hand and flashed an incredibly cute peace sign.

“…?”
