The room was empty, just as expected.
Sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, yet when it landed on the floor, it still carried a chill. Dust floated and drifted in the air. The square layout made the space feel rigid and oppressive, like an enormous coffin.
On the only wooden table sat a single phone. Amid the drip-drip of notification sounds, Lu Chi heard messages continuously popping up.
Like an experienced escape-room player, he walked over unhurriedly, picked up the phone from the table, and began flipping through it. Then he saw Gu Yanyan’s number on the other end, along with a message sent an hour earlier:
[Sorry. Don’t contact me again in the future.]
From Liang Zhiyu: [I don’t care who you are! Send my mom messages like that again, and I’ll tear you apart!]
From the already paralyzed and as good as dead Li Sheng: [President Lin, I’ve been photographed with evidence! How do we deal with killing Liang Qing and those two brats?!]
[…]
Bits and pieces, messages exchanged by the various characters of this world. There were even some from the A University forum page. When he clicked into it, it was actually that same high-rise post someone had forwarded at the very beginning.
[Is the Butterfly actually single?!]
…So even the post that pushed him into staying unofficial had been posted by the Lin family.
Lu Chi raised an eyebrow and skimmed through everything. Without changing expression, he switched to settings and tapped [My Number].
0000-112111211121.
Extremely familiar.
The timid system resurfaced, peeking its head out: [H-Host… is this the patriarch, Lin Shinian?]
The number was identical.
Lu Chi hummed: [To be precise, “Lin Shinian” never existed.]
It was merely the embodiment of the world’s consciousness, the invisible hand pushing the plot forward. It had no emotions, no rationality. Only instinct.
System: [Then why is this number the host’s birthday?]
Yes.
Why was that?
Lu Chi didn’t answer. After a moment of silence, he lowered his gaze and began using the phone to search for information about the Lin family’s heir. The webpage loaded for two seconds, when the next instant, the search box suddenly displayed a tall, broad-backed silhouette. Immediately after, several extremely concise lines of introduction appeared:
[Lin Jingsi: only son of the Lin family, next-generation military faction heir. Academy combat course top rank, mecha control supernova…]
…Why did this read like a “Return of the Dragon King1a profile that appears in a publication, praising someone and their achievements, at that same person’s orders :)) like writing your own Wikipedia page, just to pump up your prestige” profile?!
Lu Chi frowned. At the same time, a beep sounded in his ear.
[HOST!!!]
Amid the system’s terrified mechanical scream, the wall opposite the room began to slowly rise. Countless screens crowded behind the wooden wall, flickering with every scene in this world: Gu Yanyan frowning while buying new clothes for his grandmother; Liang Zhiyu irritably helping his younger sister whip cream; Li Sheng, paralyzed in bed, drooling in impotent rage as a caretaker slapped him…
And inside the room… Lu Chi himself, holding the phone.
The man lifted his gaze and met his own eyes in the surveillance feed.
The colorful images flickered.
Ghostlike text wrapped itself around the screens as if a dog had found its master, instantly flooding every display:
[Waiting for you.]
[Waiting for you.]
[Waiting for you.]
[WAITING FOR YOU!!!]
Clack.
Lu Chi pocketed the phone and turned to leave without hesitation.
Once more, the poor system nearly pissed itself from fear at the bizarre scene. Lu Chi swiftly shut the door, left the main villa at top speed, returned to the car without changing expression, and stepped on the gas.
No one stopped him throughout the entire estate.
The scenery outside the window flashed by rapidly. The Lin family’s gloomy villa cluster was quickly thrown behind him.
The system, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, began rummaging through its data in a daze: [No ghosts in this world, no ghosts in this world… Did I remember wrong?! Impossible, impossible!]
That scene had been way too ghostly, and it scared the system so badly it wanted to self-destruct on the spot!
Lu Chi rubbed his ear. After a while, he silently looked at the bright blue sky outside, blazing with sunlight. The system thought he’d been frightened stiff and hurried to comfort him: [It’s okay, Baby! Lean into the system’s chest, this system can protect you, don’t be afraid!]
Lu Chi smiled faintly. After a moment, he nodded: [Mm. You protect me.]
He held the steering wheel with one hand. His eyes were pale and beautiful, betraying no emotional change. Facing the oncoming sunlight and crowds, Lu Chi narrowed his eyes and, for the first time, began seriously recalling his past.
Recalling whether, before his death, there had ever been a fanatic fan named LJS.
Lin Jingsi.
Liang Jiashu.
LJS.
…They were quite well-named.
All of them sounded pretty damn good!
Lu Chi smiled for no particular reason. Then, as if casually, he asked the system: [Do you know what the plot of the next world is?]
But the system was blank, answering: [No idea, Baby. My brain capacity isn’t enough; I only get the plot after crossing over.]
Stupid and incompetent, with remarkable consistency!
Lu Chi calmly hummed in acknowledgment and said nothing more. Following the map, he went to FOM again, symbolically chatted with the DJ for over ten minutes, then left the venue quietly and without fuss.
………………..
By the time he returned to the villa, it was already evening.
Lu Chi opened the door. Before he could even turn on the lights, someone pressed him against the door panel and kissed him.
Familiar.
Already in the entryway, probably never having left.
Lu Chi instinctively extended his tongue, giving him a taste of flesh. But the young man was far too restless, and that wasn’t enough. One hand slid upward to his collar, when suddenly…
Rip!
Lu Chi clicked his tongue as a familiar numb, aching sensation bloomed at the base of his tongue. At the same time, Liang Jiashu pulled off his ruined shirt with one hand and leaned in to kiss him again.
The living room curtains weren’t fully drawn, so they moved to the bedroom, but there wasn’t even time to lie on the bed. Liang Jiashu pressed Lu Chi straight down onto the carpet, kissing him from top to bottom.
Soft wool instantly wrapped around his body. Lu Chi was a little absent-minded, letting him go wild. His cheek rested docilely in the young man’s palm, but his leg lifted, planting itself beneath Liang Jiashu.
His mind wasn’t in it.
But his body, by habit, was wanton.
Liang Jiashu’s breathing burned hot. He closed his eyes briefly, then suddenly reached out and turned on the ceiling light.
Click!
Under the bright light, that beautiful body was revealed in full.
Lu Chi raised his brow and let out a soft breath, asking, “Liang Jiashu?”
The young man’s pitch-black pupils locked onto him, but he didn’t speak. Instead, his chest rose and fell slightly. They were extremely in sync in bed. Often, just one exchange of glances was enough to understand exactly what the other wanted, so Lu Chi paused. Then he let out a low laugh, relaxed his body, and soothed the mad dog whose paranoia was flaring up.
“Go ahead. Check.”
There was nothing on him except the marks Liang Jiashu himself had left. But like a beast receiving its owner’s permission, Liang Jiashu’s breath faltered for a split second. Then, he quickly forced himself to calm down as he lowered his gaze, suppressing his breathing, and inspecting the body inch by inch.
First, the lips.
They were flushed and slightly swollen from being licked and kissed, slick with moisture. Gently prying open snow-white teeth revealed an equally swollen tongue and tongue root inside. As crimson intertwined with white, the stark contrast instantly turned one into an accountant, calculating every debt.
Liang Jiashu’s breathing grew heavier. He bent down and fiercely sucked and kissed Lu Chi.
He kissed him until Lu Chi’s breathing became unsteady, until Lu Chi laughed softly and slapped him once, only then barely suppressing the desire before continuing downward.
The slender, cold-white neck.
The sharp, delicate collarbones.
Even someone indifferent to art would know this body was beautiful to the point of near perfection.
Liang Jiashu stared at him obsessively and leaned in to kiss him. Lu Chi wasn’t frail. On the contrary, he rarely used stunt doubles when filming action scenes and had long been disciplined about maintaining his physique. Even after crossing worlds, that hadn’t changed much. His chest muscles were trained frequently, and his broad shoulders and narrow waist could fully support the cut of any clothing.
And a bit further down, even when fully relaxed, one hand couldn’t quite grasp him. So Liang Jiashu kissed him through his palm. Like a dog, he urgently lowered his head, kissing the muscles Lu Chi trained so often.
Lu Chi let out a soft hum and exhaled, calmly adjusting his breathing. His fingertips slid into the coarse, stiff hair at the back of Liang Jiashu’s head. Feeling the heat of his nearly scorching breath, he couldn’t help but laugh.
“Only checked this far, hm… Doctor Liang already can’t hold back?”
His leg kicked him again, even more brazenly, tempting him to a deadly degree. But no matter how many times they’d done it, Liang Jiashu always felt he could never fully take control. Because he never knew just how far Lu Chi could go.
Just like now.
The man casually raised his brow. Sensing sharp teeth grazing his skin, he suddenly turned over and pressed Liang Jiashu down, entering him without warning. Then, Lu Chi grabbed Liang Jiashu by the throat with one hand, the other resting over his own heart. His half-lidded eyes looked down from above, but his voice came out hoarse and helpless.
“Doctor Liang… my heart hurts so much. Why is that…?”
Right over his heart were the marks left from earlier kisses and fingers.
Red, slick with moisture at both ends, dented with bite marks.
…Fuck.
Liang Jiashu’s eyes burned. He grabbed Lu Chi’s waist and yanked him deeper, viciously biting down on him completely, sealing his lips as well, as if he wanted to swallow him whole.
“Because you’re burning hot…”
Lu Chi laughed softly, his thin eyelids flushed red with desire. His lashes tilted upward as he glanced at him, licking his lips and deliberately misinterpreting.
“Doctor… what does ‘burning’ mean?”
Liang Jiashu felt like he was about to be teased to death.
No matter how close they were, it was never enough. He wanted to swallow Lu Chi into his body and hide him there forever. The lights were too bright, and Lu Chi, on top, exhaled; a few strands of hair clung to his forehead, and his entire body was damp, sparkling like shattered diamonds underwater.
So dazzling it made Liang Jiashu’s heart tighten.
Too much love.
Enough love to die the next second without regret.
However, Lu Chi kept adding fuel to the fire. He grabbed Liang Jiashu’s hand and pressed the scorching palm over his own heart, pitifully asking: “What should I do then? Now it’s not just my heart… even nearby hurts so much…”
“Doctor, is my body burning badly?”
As he spoke, he pressed that “aching” heart against Liang Jiashu’s palm again and again. Heart against callused skin, proving it really hurt.
Really itchy…
Really wanted to be kissed.
But what else could be done?!
Doctor Liang, like someone force-fed an entire bottle of drugs, finally snapped and viciously bit down, fulfilling patient Lu Chi’s wish for treatment. Lu Chi’s light, breathy moans echoed for a while before a hand clamped over his mouth, a hoarse warning following: “Lu Chi, if you don’t want to spend the entire night applying ointment, don’t scream again!”
Liang Jiashu nearly bit until it bled, but Lu Chi seemed unusually off today. He suddenly reached out and grabbed Liang Jiashu by the throat, fingers tightening sharply.
The air thinned instantly, and suffocation surged violently.
From above, Lu Chi looked down at him. His light brown eyes, backlit, gleamed with something deep and cold. Liang Jiashu froze, hearing him lean in expressionlessly and ask:
“Are you really that unwilling to hurt me?”
Liang Jiashu, choking, looked into his eyes.
“…I am.”
“And if I died?”
“…I wouldn’t let that happen.”
“Even if you had to die instead?”
“Even if I had to die.”
Lu Chi narrowed his eyes at him. Then he stuck out his tongue and licked Liang Jiashu’s lips, lowered his gaze, and said softly:
“Then bark like a dog for me.”
“Woof.”
“Mmm… bark while kissing me.”
The bedroom carpet was soft. The man lowered his head, tongue extended; his hair swayed with the motion, tracing arcs in the air. His “hurting” heart was carefully treated, yet couldn’t be fully contained. What leaked at the end shimmered with moisture, wet and slick.
The one treating him barked like a dog while hoarsely calling him Master, even calling him Baby, Bother Chi, and all kinds of things. Lu Chi finally laughed again. After a moment, his beautiful face steeped in desire lowered, and he lazily kissed Liang Jiashu.
Lu Chi said, “I only burn for you.”
………………..
After the National Day holiday, A City entered the same humid, stifling rainy season as every year. Ever since Lu Chi returned from the Lin family, the world seemed much more obedient. Nothing unexpected happened on Gu Yanyan’s or Liang Zhiyu’s side.
Gu Yanyan’s grandmother appeared to settle in long-term, taking care of his daily life. Gu Yanyan had to quit his job at FOM and began frequently going to the library and studying for certifications. As for Liang Zhiyu, he returned to A University after his wounds had fully healed. Aside from his buzz cut and heavily trained muscles, he looked much the same as before.
But Lu Chi didn’t pay them much attention. His focus was elsewhere.
Friday, after class.
Lu Chi got into the car and took out the phone he’d brought back from the Lin family. Ever since he’d left that day, the phone seemed dead. No matter what he pressed, there was no response.
After a moment of silence, the system whispered: [Host Baby, do you need to go back to the Lin family for it to work?]
A Bluetooth notification suddenly popped up in the car. It was Liang Jiashu asking what he wanted to eat tonight.
Lu Chi thought for a moment and replied: [Something came up. Not eating at home. I’ll tell you when I’m back.]
The man lowered his gaze, stepped on the gas, and sped toward the Lin family’s direction.
But what Lu Chi didn’t notice was that not far behind him, Liang Jiashu stood beneath the shadow of a tree, silently watching him drive away.
His eyes were pitch-black and expressionless.
