The system… well… the system didn’t want to do anything, ah!
It was just a little heartbroken, complaining: [Baby, how can you fall in love?! You’re so beautiful, you absolutely can’t be in a one-on-one relationship with anyone!]
Lu Chi narrowed his eyes a bit, deliberately burying his head in Liang Jiashu’s shoulder hollow, rubbing like he was acting spoiled. The other’s breath hitched lightly; sensing Lu Chi taking the initiative to lean over, he immediately tightened his arms around him, slowly and carefully.
Cherishing him.
Lu Chi let out a small laugh before leisurely asking the system: [Why can’t I fall in love?]
His senile old cat’s mood wasn’t right today. The system spun in circles from being overstimulated by Lu Chi’s behavior, and finally, it gave up and wailed, its electronic voice cracking: [If you fall in love in the first world, what if you don’t want to go to any other worlds later?! And if you don’t go to other worlds, then I can’t resurrect you!!]
Lu Chi raised an eyebrow, his expression unchanged. [Resurrect?] he asked.
[Yes! Host!] The system hiccuped pitifully. [You died so suddenly, don’t you want to come back to life? So many people wish you were still alive!]
Lu Chi lowered his eyes, his voice unhurried. [If I live out a full lifetime in this world, isn’t that also a kind of resurrection?]
[……]
[Also, why did you bind to me? And why bring me back to life?]
Lu Chi had never asked the system for anything. However, there was no unequal exchange in the world, and life was extremely valuable to humans, so Lu Chi couldn’t help but think:
Since I didn’t request anything, what exactly am I paying for, and who am I paying it to?
His rapid series of questions was as sharp as blades. The system went silent, electronic glitches stuttering in and out, unable to answer.
After a long moment, it finally said: [Due to lower-level code restrictions, I cannot answer. But the host cannot stay here forever or treat this as a resurrection.]
[Your soul does not belong to this world. It consumes too much energy. If you force yourself to remain, the world will instantly purge all life, including the main cast. And ten years later, this body of yours will collapse, and your soul will completely disappear.]
[Therefore, host, my core priority calculation recommends: break up with the Gong No.1 immediately. Right now. At once.]
[Then give up on him, and quickly develop relationships with the Protagonist Shou and Gong No.2. After four years, once the main cast graduates and has no further intersection, the worldline will progress normally, and I can bring you to the next world.]
Thunder rumbled in the distance.
The system gave him four years, without considering the possibility that the abandoned Gong No.1 might go crazy and destroy the world ahead of schedule.
Lu Chi lifted his gaze, brows raised ever so slightly. [Break up?] he asked.
To leave him, for your sake?
At the same time, Liang Jiashu’s phone suddenly buzzed violently, and he swiped to answer. On the other end, his mother’s voice was cold and tightly strained.
“Jiashu,” she said, “come back to A City immediately.”
…………….
Inside Liang’s family villa.
The living room, which had been filled with shouting just moments earlier, fell abruptly silent.
After a loud crash, heavy blood splattered, dripping in rivers and mixing with spilled liquor, rapidly spreading across the polished tile.
Glass shards, soaked red, reflected tiny, icy glints.
A burly man lay collapsed in the pool of his own blood, life or death unknown. Beside him, Liang Qing, her cheeks swollen and red, was tightly holding onto her young daughter.
And standing before the pool of blood, holding a wine bottle with an unreadable expression, stood Liang Zhiyu.
Liang Qing’s face was pale, streaked with tears yet to dry, her gaze already vacant. Scattered across the floor was a stack of private photos. In the pictures, her very own husband, Li Sheng, was bending down to kiss his affair partner, his left arm wrapped intimately around a small boy.
A perfect picture of a happy family of three.
Two hours ago, she had still been preparing dinner for her husband.
Two hours ago, she received a same-city express package from an unknown sender. When she opened it and saw the familiar face of her husband, it felt like being slapped across the back of her head.
At the same time, her phone buzzed, and a strange number continued sending explicit photos and videos, hundreds of them, nonstop for what felt like an hour.
Liang Qing stared blankly at her phone, her mind frozen, incapable of responding.
She had vaguely sensed her husband drifting away long ago, but she never expected that Li Sheng, a man who had married into her family, had kept a secret little household outside all these years.
She stumbled into the kitchen in a daze, only to scream when scalded by boiling soup. Her daughter, Liang Yi, rushed downstairs, calmly treating her burns with practiced hands. Even her rebellious son came out of the training room, frowning impatiently.
“Your health is bad, just let the auntie cook! Why strain yourself over something so pointless?” With a sharp motion, Liang Zhiyu shut off the boiling stove, his voice chilled as he continued: “Who knows whether the person eating it will even appreciate it.”
Under the light, the boy’s bruises had faded by only a third. His forehead was still wrapped in bandages and, because of hospital regulations, he’d had to cut off his long hair, now replaced with a sharp buzz cut.
Frowning, with the muscle he’d built up lately, he looked inevitably fierce.
Liang Qing barely came back to her senses. Under stress, she automatically started her usual nagging: “Zhiyu, can you please stop fighting with other people? How is your father supposed to feel comfortable handing the company to you like this? Xiao Yi is still young; she needs your protection…”
She always did that. Because of her frail health and the damage from her second pregnancy, she had to hand the company over to Li Sheng and spent years as a housewife, fussing nonstop over her children.
But as she spoke, tears suddenly fell without warning, dropping onto her daughter’s small hand with soft taps.
Liang Yi instantly looked up, expression blank. After a long moment, she asked: “…Mom? What’s wrong?”
Liang Zhiyu also sensed something was off, but Liang Qing shook her head, pretending nothing had happened, and sent them away, forgetting that the stack of photos remained on the living room table.
Two hours later, Li Sheng came home, saw the photos, and flew into a rage, pointing at her with a guilty fury, scraming, “Liang Qing, did you hire someone to stalk me?!”
The argument exploded from there.
When she mentioned reclaiming all Liang family shares under his management, a slap cracked across her face, leaving her ears ringing as blood pooled inside her head. In a daze, she instinctively shielded Liang Yi, who had rushed toward her.
And then came the heart-stopping…
Bang!
And everything ended.
Liang Qing stared at the man lying in the pool of blood, her whole body trembling in fear. She held Liang Yi tightly, and with her other hand grabbed Liang Zhiyu, mumbling: “Zhiyu, go quickly, I… I’ll deal with the police…”
The girl in her arms suddenly struggled out of her grip. With surprising power, she climbed over the toppled chair, grabbed a crystal cup and, expressionlessly….
Smashed it hard onto the back of Li Sheng’s head, who was already showing signs of waking up.
Another sharp, ruthless crack sounded in the living room.
“Xiao Yi!”
Liang Qing screamed as she watched Li Sheng’s breathing grow weaker. She crawled over, shoving the girl aside and frantically wiping fingerprints off the glass, her tears flowing endlessly. But Liang Yi got up again, grabbing Liang Zhiyu and shouting: “Brother, were your injuries caused by him?!”
The moment she spoke, Liang Qing’s body stiffened, her expression turning instantly disbelieving. However, Liang Zhiyu actually laughed once. “Mom was right,” he said, “you are much smarter than I.”
But he was strong now.
With that, he grabbed the struggling Liang Qing and his sister together, confiscated their phones, and forcefully locked them in a room. Then, with a face of chilling calm, he took a cloth and wiped the floor clean, dragging his father, whose breath was close to stopping, out of the way.
At some point, a sharp kitchen knife appeared in his hand, its blade pointed at Li Sheng. Just one stroke, and the man who had cast a shadow over his entire life would die instantly.
The unfaithful man, who had failed his mother and sister, would disappear.
But under the bright lights, Liang Zhiyu noticed his own hand was badly trembling. It was far too improper for a “rebel boy” image, so he roughly wiped his face and gripped the handle tighter. In his mind, it was as if a voice was speaking, telling him he should strike without hesitation.
Strike.
And then welcome your original, wretched, and miserable, stray-dog life.
Under the lights, the boy’s expression gradually blurred, but the next second, a phone ringtone slammed into his temples, violently jolting him awake.
It was his special contact ringtone. The ringtone he set especially for Lu Chi.
A sound that was like a blade’s glint cutting through fog, breaking apart all darkness.
Liang Zhiyu suddenly gasped heavily, the knife clattering to the ground. The eighteen-year-old boy trembled all over, staring in disbelief at his almost-patricidal self, wondering what was he doing?!
He was only eighteen!
His entire life couldn’t be ruined like that…
…So Liang Zhiyu scrambled up, staggering instinctively toward the phone, the one that made him feel safe. His fingertip pressed the answer button tightly, but when he opened his mouth, he realized he’d already lost his voice and couldn’t make a sound.
A dull thud. His fist hit the floor.
The voice on the other end finally spoke, always calm, always composed, giving a concise, sharp order:
“Liang Zhiyu, go get the first-aid kit.”
Right…
They couldn’t call the police.
There was still a first-aid kit in the house.
Liang Zhiyu’s mind was blank. He didn’t even ask how Lu Chi knew. He just subconsciously obeyed that cold, steady voice. Lu Chi seemed to be on the move, the sound of wind rushing violently across the line, yet not disturbing his composure in the slightest.
The man’s unhurried voice steadied him.
Liang Zhiyu’s pounding heartbeat slowly softened, the rush of emotion no longer drowning him. After a moment, the noises around him finally became clear again. He could hear how, inside the locked room, his mother was still crying, begging Liang Mingzhu for help from his sister’s toy smartwatch.
On the floor, his father, chest rising faintly, refused to die through sheer animal survival instinct alone.
And on the phone, Lu Chi’s clear, steady, gentle breathing.
Liang Zhiyu, dazed, rasped in a whisper: “Lu Chi, why are you always…”
Why, like a lighthouse, did he always appear in the sinking swamp of his life, illuminating a moment of darkness, stretching out a hand for just one second…
And then catching him without effort, pulling him up to shore.
So warm.
Liang Zhiyu couldn’t help wanting to hold that hand tight, but he no longer dared to be presumptuous the way he had in the beginning. The heavier the feelings tilted on one side of the scale, the lighter his arrogance and loftiness on the other.
In front of his saviour, he had become very, very low. Low to the dust, yet still feeling unworthy.
So he didn’t dare call again.
On the other end, the person let out a quiet laugh. Then, Liang Zhiyu heard Lu Chi’s voice, light and relaxed: “Because I’m the righteous and charming savior. I’m here to stop you all from destroying the world. That’s why I appear.”
Liang Zhiyu froze. After a long moment, he suddenly let out a small laugh.
Yes.
He really was his savior.
Before Liang Mingzhu arrived at the villa, before the call ended, Liang Zhiyu faintly heard a soft exhale, followed by a sudden, casual laugh in a slightly hoarse voice.
“Are you crazy? Stop kissing…”
“…”
Click.
The call disconnected.
…………………….
The sky above the island had already cleared. On the private jet, Lu Chi was suddenly pushed down and kissed deeply by Liang Jiashu, intimately and persistently.
Lu Chi accepted it with a smile, returned the kiss a few times, then stopped and pinched the back of his neck, complaining, “Stop kissing! Hurry up and tell your mother to bring a private doctor with her!”
However, Liang Jiashu didn’t react; his pitch-black eyes were still fixed tightly on Lu Chi, saying in a voice hoarse with warning: “Lu Chi, you can only be my righteous and charming savior.”
“……”
What a fucking lunatic!
Lu Chi halfheartedly nodded and hummed, appeasing his jealous mad dog. After thinking for a moment, he lowered his gaze and found the Protagonist Shou’s WeChat avatar, sending him a message.
Eat, Sleep, Dance: [Do you really hate Liang Zhiyu that much?]
A moment later, a rapid reply came through.
