DSMC Chapter 116.2

Perfect Partner (Part 2)

Yan Jiyun also let out a sigh of relief.

The beautiful guide said, “Not bad. Let’s go again. There’s still two more rounds. I don’t believe I can’t beat you.”

In this round, Qi Feng probably had the best hand. The guide had too many small cards and couldn’t play them.

Fortunately, they finished this round.

There were still two rounds left. As long as they won the second round, they could end their match with the guide.

But how could the system let their confidence rise so easily? Naturally, it had to suppress them. In the second round, the guide got a straight, along with a bomb and both Jokers, completely crushing Yan Jiyun and Qi Feng with no chance to fight back.

It was obvious the system had deliberately given the guide an overwhelming advantage.

Outside the arena, Chu Mo almost rolled his eyes to the sky. The audience could see all three players’ hands, and the moment the second round began, he knew the temporary teammates would lose.

However, the most important was the third round.

Before it started, the guide giggled and said, “If you can’t beat me next round, you’ll have to stay in the casino.”

Yan Jiyun ignored her and looked at Qi Feng. He originally wanted to make a cheering gesture, but his hands were restrained, so it turned into a wink instead: “Good luck.”

Qi Feng nodded slightly: “Mm.”

Yan Jiyun muttered in his heart that his pooper-scooper was really stingy with words.

The third round was dealt. Yan Jiyun’s hand was similar to the first round, but this time he had a small Joker. The guide might have the big Joker.

The bottom cards on the table were K, 8, 2.

Although there was a high card, the 2, both he and Qi Feng chose not to call landlord, letting the guide take it by default.

The beautiful guide looked elated, clearly very satisfied with her hand.

Yan Jiyun’s cards were: small Joker, 2, A, K, J, J, 10, 10, 9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 4, 4, 3, 3.

The guide: “Pair of 3s.”

Yan Jiyun looked at his cards. Whether to play or not was awkward, so he didn’t even think and chose to pass.

He couldn’t play, but his teammate could. Qi Feng played: “Pair of 6s.”

The guide thought she had it in the bag, but her play was blocked by Qi Feng.

Yan Jiyun guessed she might have had a pair of 6s, and Qi Feng’s pair perfectly blocked her small pair.

They now had the initiative.

Qi Feng continued with another pair: “Pair of 9s.”

The guide flicked her cards impatiently, casually tossing her soft hair, but the two men were completely unmoved. Their minds were on counting cards; their eyes saw only the cards.

“Pass.” Unable to play, she started attacking psychologically, giggling as she asked Qi Feng, “Handsome, who’s prettier, me or your girlfriend?”

Yan Jiyun: “…” His pooper-scooper didn’t even have a girlfriend. Where did that come from?

Qi Feng remained unmoved, continuing calmly: “Pair of Qs.”

What hung above their heads now wasn’t the Sword of Damocles, but an electric saw. A sword might kill in one strike, but a saw would torture someone to death.

As Qi Feng’s cards dwindled, the guide grew anxious: “Pair of Ks. You two are so boring.”

Yan Jiyun still didn’t play and ignored her. She was clearly trying to disrupt them.

This time, Qi Feng also had nothing to beat her and passed.

The guide continued gossiping: “Pair of 5s. Could it be that guy in the audience is your boyfriend?”

Yan Jiyun held himself back from responding. He couldn’t fall into her trap.

He counted Qi Feng’s remaining cards; there were 11 left. Since Qi Feng had just passed, he couldn’t beat it, so this time Yan Jiyun had to take control.

Yan Jiyun decisively played: “Pair of Js.”

Qi Feng was even calmer, as if he hadn’t heard her at all, and passed.

They suppressed the guide’s play. Yan Jiyun then played a single: “5.”

Qi Feng countered: “2.”

Seeing her attempts to distract them fail and unable to play, the guide grew irritated: “Pass!”

Yan Jiyun guessed her anger was fake. She had the big Joker but chose not to play it. She likely knew he and Qi Feng had the small Joker. If she used the big Joker now without a bomb, her remaining cards wouldn’t hold up.

The initiative returned to Qi Feng: “Straight.”

A K Q J 10.

The guide was suppressed again and couldn’t play. Qi Feng now had only five cards left.

The initiative was still his.

Yan Jiyun calculated that Qi Feng couldn’t have a straight anymore, probably only something like three-with-a-pair or three-of-a-kind with two singles.

He prayed Qi Feng had three-with-a-pair so they could end the round.

Qi Feng played: “Three with one.”

Three 7s with a 5.

Yan Jiyun controlled his expression.

The guide: “Beats you.”

She played three 8s with a 4, successfully overpowering Qi Feng.

Yan Jiyun didn’t have three of a kind, so he passed. The initiative returned to the guide.

But both he and Qi Feng felt relieved.

Yan Jiyun’s mind worked like a card counter. Excluding his hand and played cards, only one big Joker, two 2s, two As, and four singles remained: 9, 10, J, Q.

No matter what Qi Feng had, they wouldn’t lose now.

The guide threw out a 9.

Yan Jiyun passed, letting Qi Feng play. The smallest card they held was 9. No need for him to interfere.

Qi Feng played his final card: an Ace.

The guide sighed, displeased: “You’re quite lucky to have beaten me.”

With two clicks, the restraints on Yan Jiyun and Qi Feng were released, and they regained their freedom.

It was Yan Jiyun’s first time cooperating with Qi Feng in a game, and they had won. Excited, he raised his hand toward Qi Feng, only to realize his hand was no longer a black furry paw. He was in human form now. Holding his hand up like that felt awkward.

He managed to say, “Good teamwork.”

Qi Feng paused, then placed his hand against Yan Jiyun’s and gave it a light slap: “Good teamwork.”

The scene shifted. Chu Mo, who had been in the audience, returned with them to the slot machine.

Yan Jiyun had been tense the whole time and finally relaxed.

The guide said, “Congratulations on passing my test. You may choose to leave the casino or proceed to the next door.”

The three of them had no change in mind.

Chu Mo said, “We’ll go to the Horse Door.”

The guide said, “If the three of you have decided to go together, please press the confirm button in front of you.”

A confirm button appeared before Yan Jiyun: one for confirm, one for give up.

This lousy game is indeed quite cunning. If someone is unwilling to go with him, they can choose to give up directly, right at the last moment, it’s still testing their gambler’s mentality.

Yan Jiyun pressed the confirm button without hesitation.

He was the first to press it. When Qi Feng saw him disappear, he immediately pressed it as well. Chu Mo didn’t hesitate either, though he muttered that those two were really fast, making him fall behind again and stirring his competitive spirit as a man.

However, after they left, the beautiful guide looked at her freshly done nails and muttered to herself, “Oh dear, I forgot to tell them. This isn’t directional teleportation, it’s random teleportation.”

Yan Jiyun felt a strong sense of weightlessness. When he opened his eyes again, a sudden burst of cheering filled his ears, almost blowing him away.

Where was this place?

There were crowds all around him, everyone staring at the racetrack ahead. Where were Qi Feng and Chu Mo?

Did they not come in? Or had the system separated them?

That made sense. Splitting them up was the system’s usual operation. Letting the three of them team up directly would be strange.

Yan Jiyun was still wearing that dress. He needed to get rid of the wig and the dress. It was too uncomfortable.

He stood up from the crowd and hurried down the aisle toward the back entrance. He needed to find a restroom to change; otherwise, he couldn’t move properly.

He had just squeezed out of the crowd when, at the entrance, a drunk man blocked him: “Hey beautiful, are you free tonight?”

Yan Jiyun punched him straight in the nose bridge. “To hell with ‘beautiful’! You dare flirt with me!”

The drunk collapsed to the ground, completely dazed. By the time he started wailing, Yan Jiyun had already slipped into the men’s restroom.

Inside, Yan Jiyun transformed back into a cat, then changed back into his usual three-piece set. He threw the dress and wig into the trash. He never wanted to touch them again in this lifetime.

After coming out of the restroom, he began observing his surroundings.

This was unmistakably a horse racing track.

When he had just come out of the spectator area, he saw quite a few people holding pens and notebooks, seriously taking notes, probably more seriously than they ever studied in school.

Yan Jiyun still didn’t know how to find clues related to the Horse Door.

Qi Feng and Chu Mo hadn’t found clues at the Tiger Door either. They all agreed that the Tiger Door. was probably for farming points.

Yan Jiyun couldn’t figure it out. Qi Feng had already earned over a million points, yet he hadn’t been hunted down by Ruan-ge, while he himself had only about a hundred thousand points and was already being forced into a life-or-death gamble.

Was this what they meant by different fates for different people?

There were people everywhere. Yan Jiyun decided not to look for them for now and instead focus on finding clues to leave this place. His Human Form Time  Card was limited.

When he went to the service desk to ask about horse racing, he looked up and saw a banner above him.

The time was today at 8 AM. The rider who won first place in three races would receive a VIP card from the racetrack.

He checked the time on the electronic screen, less than fifteen minutes remained before the race started.

He had spent only 21 minutes clearing three games in the Rat Door, essentially like using a cheat in that round.

At the Tiger Door, he spent less than an hour earning 100,000 points and triggered Ruan-ge’s pursuit, then left with his temporary teammates.

So at the Horse Door, he should be able to keep it within an hour as well, right?

It was just horse racing.

For the sake of the information card, even if it seemed impossible, he had to make it possible.

While he was still mentally preparing himself, the announcement system called his name:

“Rider Yan Jiyun, please proceed to the backstage immediately for preparation. Rider Yan Jiyun, please proceed to the backstage immediately for preparation…”

Alright, the system had already assigned him his role.
