ARLQLCC chapter 28

Demon Venerable Tu Yan

The Law Enforcement Hall disciples were extremely fast. As soon as the Second Elder gave the order, they turned into afterimages and charged toward Su Ji.

Most Law Enforcement Hall disciples were at the Nascent Soul realm. The two disciples sent to capture Su Ji were at Mid-Nascent Soul and Late Nascent Soul respectively. They coordinated perfectly, flanking him from the left and right.

Su Ji’s eyes darkened. Green spiritual energy wrapped the kitten in his arms and sent it flying to Yun Che, who was beside the small cart and just about to step in and help.

“Chef Su!”

Su Ji drew his sword and met the attack, saying in a low voice, “Take care of it for me!”

At this moment, Chu Zhaoye lay in Yun Che’s hands, watching the three already entangled in battle, furious to the point of almost flipping over.

He struggled to break free from Yun Che’s grip, but was quickly pulled back.

“Ma Tuan, don’t cause trouble! Those two disciples are no match for Chef Su. If you, a little kitten, go over there and get hurt, I won’t know how to explain it to Chef Su!”

In this world, after living for thousands of years, this was the first time Chu Zhaoye was told that a Nascent Soul battle was something he would be “causing trouble” by joining—but frustratingly, it actually made sense. Right now, he really was just a useless little cat, possessing only a Tribulation-level body but unable to use any spiritual power.

Not far away, Su Ji fought two opponents alone and had the upper hand, leisurely toying with the two disciples until they were completely disoriented.

Seeing they were losing, the remaining Law Enforcement Hall disciples exchanged glances and drew their swords, joining the fight.

The scene immediately turned into a ridiculous five-against-one battle.

Watching Su Ji surrounded in the center, Chu Zhaoye’s killing intent surged. The palm-sized black kitten suddenly erupted with overwhelming pressure that swept across Lianshuo Peak.

Yunxian Sect, what a Yunxian Sect!

If anything happened to Su Ji today, he would make the entire Yunxian Sect pay!

Branches trembled and birds took flight.

Everyone present, except Su Ji, felt an inexplicable fear rise from the soles of their feet.

The pressure only leaked out for a split second—so fast that no one even had time to react. When everyone thought it was just an illusion, only the highest-ranked Second Elder turned pale, standing frozen like a frightened quail for a long time before recovering.

In the center of the square, the five Law Enforcement Hall disciples surrounded Su Ji. Unable to capture him after so long, they grew furious and formed hand seals.

Several Yunxian Sect disciples recognized it—it was the Law Enforcement Hall’s Seven Stars Killing Formation.

Anyone trapped inside, if unable to break the formation with their cultivation, would have their spiritual energy drained and die.

The formation was about to be completed. Even those unfamiliar with it could feel the killing intent contained within.

The disciples on the square were stunned. They couldn’t understand how buying dinner had escalated into this.

Just because of setting up a stall, someone was being sent to the Law Enforcement Hall—and now, in full view of everyone, five against one, forming a killing formation.

How did it come to this?

Among those present, aside from Yunxian Sect disciples, most were from other sects. Several who had eaten lunch at Linggu Mountain earlier couldn’t stand it anymore. Seeing the Second Elder just watching without intervening, someone shouted:

“Just because of a stall, you’re going to kill him? Yunxian Sect is truly treating lives as nothing!”

The Second Elder’s expression was also ugly. He had only just recovered from that strange pressure, and now saw that five Law Enforcement Hall disciples still couldn’t take down one man—and were even forming a killing formation on Lianshuo Peak.

If the Seven Stars Formation was completed, the commotion would be earth-shattering. If it alerted the Great Elder…

Right now, Yunxian Sect wasn’t just hosting the Great Elder—sect masters from various factions were gathered here, and even the Demon Race’s envoy had arrived. If they learned this chaos started because of him…

No. It must not be completed!

Thinking this, his expression darkened as he was about to stop them—

But then, a burst of red light exploded at the center of the square. Seven blood stars connected, flashing in the formation’s core. A terrifying killing aura surged outward like a tidal wave. All watching disciples raised their hands to resist.

The killing formation was complete.

The Second Elder’s raised hand trembled in anger.

Useless! A bunch of useless trash!

Five people couldn’t even capture one person—how did they even get into the Law Enforcement Hall?!

Since he couldn’t stop it now, he quickly raised a barrier to protect the disciples behind him.

At this point, the formation was no longer his doing. He only said to capture Su Ji—he never said to kill him. When the Great Elder investigated, he could simply claim these five acted on their own. The formation was already complete; he had no time to intervene.

Even if the Great Elder was strict, he likely wouldn’t blame him.

As for the person trapped inside—whether he lived or died would depend on his fate.

……

Inside the formation, red light blazed. Su Ji felt the greatest pressure at the center. He raised a barrier with his spiritual energy, barely resisting the formation’s assault.

But this was not a long-term solution. Once his spiritual energy was exhausted, he would be devoured. He needed to break the formation from inside.

However, the formation’s inner walls were as solid as iron. A five–Nascent Soul formation—unless he was at least one realm higher, escape would be nearly impossible.

Clutching his sword, Su Ji was thinking of a solution when he heard the sound of sword energy scraping against the formation from outside.

He looked up. Outside the red glow, Xie Qinghuai stood with Yuan Chenxin and An Jingcheng beside him. All three had drawn their swords, trying to break the formation from outside.

But once the formation was complete, both its core and its casters became exponentially stronger. Even a Soul Transformation cultivator would find it extremely difficult to break.

Yuan Chenxin was panicking almost to the point of fainting. After going to line up at the back with An Jingcheng, the latter suddenly had stomach pain and dragged him to the latrine. When they returned, everything on Lianshuo Peak had changed.

Hearing that Su Ji was trapped in the killing formation, he immediately drew his sword and rushed forward.

An Jingcheng followed him, striking the formation barrier repeatedly, but couldn’t even scratch it.

Xie Qinghuai had returned to his courtyard after dinner and sensed the killing aura mid-cultivation. Rushing out, he ran into the other two and learned Su Ji was in danger—he came immediately.

But even though he was Nascent Soul, combined with the others, they used nearly eighty percent of their spiritual energy, yet the formation did not budge. It seemed determined not to stop until someone died.

Seeing Su Ji’s weakening barrier, Xie Qinghuai turned and slashed at the Second Elder.

“You old bastard! If anything happens to my friend today, the trade between Kunlun Divine Palace and your Yunxian Sect will end tomorrow!”

Nascent Soul sword energy posed no threat to the Second Elder, but the identity of the person in front of him left him choking on his words.

He looked at Xie Qinghuai’s furious face, then at Su Ji struggling in the formation, cold sweat silently slid down his temple.

That young man looked like a rootless wandering cultivator. It was one thing that he knew Yun Xicheng—but how was he also connected to the Young Sect Master of Kunlun Divine Palace?

The two beside Xie Qinghuai included a direct disciple of the Sword Venerable Wuxie from Chenxin Sect. Their anxious expressions clearly showed they were also closely connected to him.

At this moment, the Second Elder truly wanted to kill those five reckless disciples.

He thought a roadside stall owner would have no background and could be easily crushed—but he had kicked an iron plate this time.

He could break the Seven Stars Formation, but the backlash would also be multiplied as well.

To risk injury for a mere rogue cultivator…

He was weighing the pros and cons rapidly when sudden exclamations erupted behind him. His heart sank as he turned abruptly.

The crowd parted. The Great Elder stood in the center, and behind him was a black-robed man wearing a silver mask, a beast crown on his head, and a delicate chain hanging from his waist that clinked as he walked.

The man’s gaze instantly locked onto the Second Elder.

The Second Elder felt a chill down his spine, about to speak—but the Great Elder said coldly, “Still not stopping?!”

Xie Qinghuai, hearing the voice, turned and appeared in front of the Great Elder like a gust of wind.

The Great Elder was startled. “Young Master Xie, why are you—”

Xie Qinghuai’s face was dark as water. “Break the formation! My friend is still inside!”

The Second Elder stammered, “S-Senior Brother, this…”

The Great Elder glanced at him coldly and stepped forward to form seals and break the formation, the Second Elder following blankly like a soul lost.

But before they could reach the formation—

A deep surge of demon energy swept past them, striking the red light. In an instant, it devoured the formation from the center outward.

The formation collapsed. The five disciples groaned and fell unconscious.

The Great Elder turned and said ashamedly, “Demon Venerable Tu, it is my poor discipline. I must trouble you to help break the formation.”

At these words, the entire crowd erupted.

Demon Venerable!

He was the Demon King’s trusted subordinate—Demon Venerable Tu Yan, half a step into the Tribulation realm!

It seemed the four-winged beast that day was his mount.

A powerhouse at the edge of Tribulation—someone they might never see in their lifetime—had actually appeared here!

Tu Yan waved it off indifferently, but his hawk-like eyes were fixed tightly on Su Ji, who was leaning on his sword, catching his breath.

Earlier, while speaking with the Great Elder, he had suddenly felt a familiar pressure in the distance. Though brief, he recognized it immediately—it was Chu Zhaoye’s aura, the same one that had disappeared after seclusion.

But when he arrived, there was no sign of that figure. Only the young man before him stood at the center of the incident.

Chu Zhaoye had never been associated with such a person before—but Tu Yan instinctively felt that finding Chu Zhaoye was somehow tied to him.

Just as he was about to step forward and ask—

Someone nearby suddenly shouted in panic:

“Ma Tuan, come back! Don’t run around!”

The next second, a small black kitten appeared and shot straight toward the young man, jumping into his outstretched hand and rubbing its head against him anxiously

The young man let out a soft, inappropriate laugh.

Tu Yan: “……”

Tu Yan: “……………………”

Am I blind??????

Isn’t that their cold, ruthless, kill-without-blinking boss??????
