MHWFYYTMDF Chapter46

Trapped

He Muyan went over to help set up the tent. Seeing the two big guys handling the work, Xue Sang slacked off and ran over to Song Li’s side.

Song Li raised his head and smiled at him, “Aren’t you afraid the two of them would feel awkward if you just walked away like that?”

Xue Sang shrugged, “They’d probably be even more awkward if I stayed.”

Song Li was curious, “Why?”

Xue Sang pointed to his own mouth, “I can’t control this mouth of mine. Whenever I see your guy, I can’t resist talking back to him. My husband has such a good temper, being stuck between the two of us would definitely make him feel awkward.”

Speechless, Song Li looked at him and said, “Honestly, you could really try setting aside your prejudice against He Muyan. He really isn’t the same as before. Actually, even in the past, he never did anything wrong to me.”

“Mind your own business,” Xue Sang pulled two bottles of water out of the backpack beside them before handing one to him, “Do you want some?”

Song Li nodded and took it.

Xue Sang looked over at the two people still busy setting up the tent not far away while unscrewing the cap to take a sip. Who knew what had crossed his mind, but his eyes shifted slightly before he suddenly rose to his feet and walked over.

Not knowing what he was up to, Song Li watched as he walked back to Ye Yi’s side, said something to him, unscrewed the water bottle in his hand, and handed it over.

With a very gentle smile, Ye Yi took the water and tilted his head back to take a gulp. Xue Sang didn’t leave either, keeping his head raised as he looked at him. His face was slightly flushed from the sun, his eyes curving with a bright smile.

With a gentle movement, Ye Yi pressed the cool water bottle against his flushed cheek before leaning down to kiss him.

Good grief.

Song Li’s teeth ached with a secondhand cringe. Did these two really never get tired of living like this every single day?

Preoccupied with the cheesy display, he completely missed the resentful, melancholic gaze directed at him by the other person still setting up the tent.

Once the tent was pitched, Xue Sang immediately set about getting food ready, spreading out a picnic blanket on the lawn beside the tent. Knowing Song Li had a sweet tooth, he had brought along some freshly made little cakes from his shop, as well as some self-heating mini hotpots. With the weather being chilly, eating something like this felt quite cozy and comforting.

While eating, Xue Sang and Ye Yi were being utterly sweet, feeding each other bite after bite. After watching them for a bit, Song Li felt that the little cake in his hand wasn’t even half as sickeningly sweet as those two.

After finishing a strawberry from his cake, he happened to notice a self-heating mini hotpot sitting off to the side, seemingly completely untouched. Song Li turned his head to look at the person beside him.

He Muyan was sitting motionlessly like an old monk in meditation with his arms crossed.

Song Li reached out to poke him, “You’re not eating?”

He Muyan glanced at him, coldly spitting out two words, “I’m full.”

Song Li was surprised, “You haven’t even eaten a single bite.”

He Muyan stopped talking altogether, and after a moment, simply stood up and walked away.

From across the mat, Xue Sang took a break to ask him, “What is your husband doing, going for a smoke?”

Watching He Muyan’s departing back, Song Li shook his head softly, “He basically quit smoking after I got pregnant.”

Xue Sang let out an “Oh”, “Then what’s he going off to do if he’s not eating?”

“I don’t know.”

Taking a sip of hot soup, Xue Sang let out a satisfied belch, “Ignore him then. We’re going fishing in a bit! The way my husband looks when he fishes is insanely handsome. Lili, do you want to come watch in a bit?”

Song Li thought to himself, Is there ever a time when your husband doesn’t look handsome in your eyes? He smiled and teased him, “If I go watch, won’t you get jealous?”

“We’re practically family, no need to be so formal.” Xue Sang shrugged. “Besides, the sight of my husband fishing is a work of art! An exquisite work of art is meant to be baptized by the gazes of the living masses. I’m not so pedantic that I’d get jealous over petty stuff like that.”

A work of art, and the living masses, no less.

Song Li, “Yue.”

Xue Sang wagged a finger at him, “Jealousy; that is pure, unadulterated jealousy from you.”

“Alright.” While listening to the two of them talk nonsense, Ye Yi had already sorted and cleaned up the remaining trash from their meal. Stroking Xue Sang’s hair, he stood up, “I’m going to cast the lines now, are you coming to watch?”

“Of course!” Xue Sang stood up with a swoosh as well, “I haven’t seen you fish in so long, my heart is practically itching for it.”

Ye Yi nodded, then glanced at Song Li, who was still sitting down.

Song Li smiled at them, “I’ll sit here a bit longer, you two go ahead first.”

Xue Sang blew him a kiss, “Waiting for you, baby.”

Watching their retreating figures as they walked away together like inseparable twins, the smile on Song Li’s face gradually faded, and he lifted his head to gaze up at the large tree above him.

The wind was strong today, rustling the branches and leaves. Sunlight filtered through the gaps between the leaves, casting irregular patches of light across Song Li’s face, making his naturally fair skin look almost translucent.

Not far away, someone was flying a kite; a large butterfly that seemed to have just taken off. The two long tails trailing behind it rustled loudly in the wind, swaying as it flew higher and higher.

After watching it soar into the air safely, Song Li withdrew his gaze and noticed that the person flying the kite was a gray-haired grandfather. He was surrounded by two little tots, presumably his grandchildren, who were loudly begging to fly it themselves.

Amused by the sight, Song Li also felt a trace of envy, thinking in his heart that once his and He Muyan’s baby was born and grew to this age, they must definitely bring him out to fly kites like this too.

His hand unconsciously settled over his belly, gently stroking it. It was only after watching those two little tots successfully crash the giant butterfly back to the ground moment after it took off that he finally looked away, letting out a muffled laugh.

A bit closer to the woods, there was a stall selling tents and simple swings, surrounded by quite a few people browsing. Song Li saw He Muyan standing near there as well with a girl beside him.

He Muyan was tall, making the girl beside him look rather small and delicate. She was looking up intently while talking to him, and He Muyan occasionally responded with a phrase or two, his expression not looking particularly cold or distant.

Song Li froze for a couple of seconds. It had only been ten minutes or so since He Muyan left, had he really gotten hit on so quickly?

Song Li watched for a while and noticed that the girl seemed to be getting closer and closer to him. Unaware of what was going through his mind, He Muyan made no effort to keep his distance at all, allowing her to stand on her tiptoes to lean in close to him. Why did she need to stand so close if she was just talking?

Unable to sit still any longer, Song Li supported his belly and stood up. After a moment’s thought, he put on a pair of sunglasses and walked straight toward them.

“I’m serious, my friend and I set up our tent right over there, and we even set up a barbecue grill! If you come over and help us grill the meat, we can all eat together; the more the merrier!”

As soon as Song Li drew closer, he heard the girl’s voice. Whether she was doing it intentionally or not, her tone was excessively sweet and coaxing.

“Handsome, won’t you consider it? Anyway, I see you’re all by yourself. Playing around alone is so boring~”

“Excuse me, he didn’t come here alone today.”

The voice suddenly sounding from behind made the girl freeze for a moment, and she immediately turned around to look.

Behind the sunglasses, Song Li’s expression was cold as frost. With his lips pressed into a thin line, he stared icily at the two of them.

The girl had no idea where he had suddenly popped out from. Even with the sunglasses on, it was obvious he was an exceptionally good-looking guy, though perhaps due to being bundled up so thickly, he appeared a bit full-figured.

Pouting her lips, the girl continued to act spoiled, “Did you two come together? That’s perfect then! I have another friend over there, so we can all hang out together!”

Song Li hadn’t expected girls nowadays to be so thick-skinned, she still refused to give up even after he said that.

Song Li wasn’t someone adept at dealing with girls, so for a moment he didn’t know what to do, raising his head to look at the man behind her instead.

“He Muyan.”

He Muyan had been looking at him all along, “Lili.”

Song Li felt a bit annoyed, “Aren’t you coming over?”

With that said, he turned around to walk away, but He Muyan, who was taking advantage of his long reach, stretched out his arm and grabbed him directly, “Lili.”

Song Li shook his arm twice but couldn’t shake him off. Exasperated, he scolded him, “Are you intentionally trying to anger me?”

He Muyan looked at him while remaining silent.

The girl beside them found their interaction utterly baffling, “Handsome, don’t argue! Are you really not planning on joining us for BBQ?”

Song Li had almost forgotten the girl’s existence, thinking to himself that she was far too persistent to still not give up even under these circumstances.

To completely crush her fantasies, Song Li had no choice but to resort to his ultimate trump card, “Stop asking, we’re not going. The two of us are already married.”

The girl blinked, her eyes flitting back and forth between them. After a brief pause, she suddenly giggled, “Stop lying to me. You both look so young, how could you possibly be married? Besides, if you were married, you’d have rings, wouldn’t you? If you’re going to lie, at least come up with a decent excuse. How boring, I’m not playing with you guys anymore.”

Having said her piece, the girl actually turned on her heel and walked away, leaving Song Li and He Muyan standing on the spot, both instinctively looking at each other’s hands at the exact same time.

It was completely bare; indeed, there were no rings.

Song Li unconsciously clenched his hand into a tight fist and let out a dry laugh, “Let’s head back. Didn’t you say you wanted to try fishing too? Ye Yi and Xiao Sang are already starting.”

Song Li turned to leave, but his hand was caught by He Muyan.

“Lili.”

He Muyan’s voice was very low, “Let’s talk.”

Song Li’s hand tightened slightly, “What’s there to talk about?”

He Muyan pulled him back before reaching out to take off the sunglasses on his face, “There’s a lot we need to talk about. Give me a little time, alright?”

Without the sunglasses, the panic in Song Li’s eyes was completely exposed, leaving him nowhere to hide it. He gripped He Muyan’s hand, his fingers tightening slightly with nervousness.

He Muyan held his hand in return and said no more, leading him straight to the side.

There were people everywhere, and with the place so noisy and crowded, it was hardly suitable for having a conversation. After walking for a short while, He Muyan ultimately led Song Li into the tent they had just set up earlier.

Fortunately, the tent Xue Sang and the other had bought wasn’t small; even with two grown men ducking inside, it didn’t feel particularly cramped at all.

After going inside, He Muyan zipped the tent door shut. Since there were mesh windows on both sides of the tent, the light dimmed somewhat, but it wasn’t overly dark.

Song Li disliked such narrow, confined spaces, especially now with the intense aura He Muyan radiated. He felt as though the entire tent was filled with his overwhelming pressure, so powerful that it made it hard to breathe.

He Muyan turned around to look at him, “Lili.”

Song Li shuddered unconsciously, his body tensing up, not daring to meet his gaze.

He Muyan had no choice but to draw closer again before reaching out to gently turn his face toward him.

“Song Li.”

Song Li’s downturned eyelashes fluttered softly as he answered in a low voice, “I can hear you.”

He Muyan let out a sigh, gently rubbing beneath Song Li’s eyes with his fingers, “When I was talking to that girl just now, how did you feel?”

Song Li raised his head to look at him. If he admitted that he felt angry and jealous, would He Muyan think he was making a scene over nothing?

He hesitated for a moment, then still shook his head lightly.

He Muyan’s fingers stiffened for a second, a self-deprecating smile appearing on his face, “There’s no feeling at all? I thought you would at least be a little angry. Song Li, is it true that no matter what I do, it doesn’t matter to you at all?”

By the time He Muyan finished speaking, he looked utterly disappointed, sighing as he stood up to leave.

“He Muyan!” Without a second thought, Song Li grabbed his hand, asking anxiously, “Where are you going?”

He Muyan turned his head to look at him while remaining silent.

Looking at his eyes that seemed to have suddenly grown cold, Song Li felt a needle-like prick of pain in his heart. Feeling a sudden wave of exhaustion, he gave a bitter smile, the hand holding onto He Muyan trembling unconsciously.

“He Muyan, you’re always like this, saying nothing and making me guess everything. I’m not a mind reader; I can’t possibly know every single thought of yours! Yesterday was the same. Everything was fine, yet you suddenly got angry out of nowhere, ran off by yourself to drink with your friends, and stayed out so late without coming home. Do you have any idea how I felt waiting for you at home all by myself? Do you know how I felt seeing you have drunk like that when I went to the bar? You don’t know a thing! All you do is constantly test me and push me. When you were talking to that girl just now, she stood so close to you, yet you acted as if you didn’t care at all and even asked me how I felt. He Muyan, do you even have a heart…”

As if losing all control, Song Li poured out every single word he had been bottling up inside for all these days. He couldn’t care less anymore; regardless of how He Muyan might react, he didn’t care, at least in the moment of letting it all out, he felt a sense of wild relief.

He might be a few years older than He Muyan, but that shouldn’t mean it had to be endless, one-sided tolerance and accommodation on his part. He wanted to be willful for once, to let He Muyan know that he wasn’t someone whose good temper had no bottom line.

Panting heavily, Song Li didn’t even dare to look at He Muyan’s current reaction, instead bracing himself against whatever was around him as he struggled to get back on his feet.

“Lili.”

Song Li’s hand was suddenly grabbed, and immediately after, his entire body was pulled into a tight embrace from behind.

Pressing close to his ear, He Muyan’s voice was laced with excitement and joy, “Lili.”

Not knowing what had gotten into him, Song Li struggled and moved slightly, only to be held even tighter by He Muyan.

“Lili.” He Muyan seemed able to do nothing but call his name, repeating it over and over, “Lili, I’m so happy.”

Having been rubbed against like this for a bit, Song Li gradually calmed down. He let out a sigh and held onto the hands wrapped around his waist, “He Muyan, what exactly do you want from me?”

Kissing his neck, He Muyan suddenly said, “Call me Laogong.”

“Huh?” Startled by his confusing words, Song Li turned around to look at him. “What?”

Taking advantage of the angle, He Muyan planted a kiss on the corner of his lips, “Call me Laogong. Lili, you always call me by my name. We’ve been married for so long, and with the baby in your belly almost due, you still keep addressing me like that. Do you know that every time I hear you call me that, I feel like the two of us are still just unfamiliar strangers?”

After thinking over his words for a moment, Song Li remembered how he had been acting these past few days and asked hesitantly, “Could it really be because of this that you’ve been acting so awkward and moody these past few days?”

He Muyan let out a vague “En.”

Amused yet helpless, Song Li said, “He Muyan, is that really necessary? It’s just a form of address.”

He Muyan refused to back down and countered, “If it’s just a form of address, why are you always unwilling to change it? That friend of yours and his boyfriend aren’t even married yet, but don’t they call each other that so sweetly? Why aren’t you willing to call me that, Lili?”

Why was he bringing Xue Sang into this again? Speechless, Song Li tried to picture himself acting like Xue Sang, showering someone with “Laogong” this and “Laogong” that, he simply couldn’t accept it. It just wasn’t in his nature to say such things.

He Muyan held him and swayed gently, “Lili…”

Unable to stand his persistent coaxing any longer, Song Li tried very hard to build up the right mood, opening his mouth after a long pause to murmur in a low voice, “Laogong…”

He Muyan’s arms tightened around him, pressing close to his ear, “Call me that again, Lili.”

Feeling so embarrassed that his breath felt scorching hot, Song Li gave up completely, closed his eyes, and called out loudly, “Laogong, Laogong!”

Seemingly satisfied, He Muyan turned his body around, smiling with pure gentleness and indulgence.

“Lili, let’s get married.”

With a face like He Muyan’s, paired with such a smile and gaze, he was practically a lethal weapon. Completely mesmerized, Song Li instinctively answered, “Okay.”

Only after coming to his senses did Song Li realize what He Muyan was talking about. He blinked and asked in slight confusion, “Haven’t we… already gotten our marriage certificate?”

He Muyan pinched his cheek, “But we haven’t held a wedding.”

Song Li let out an “Ah,” his eyes widening, “You… you mean, you want to… hold a…”

“Hold a wedding,” He Muyan finished the sentence for him. “Lili, what do you think?”

Whether it was good or not, Song Li didn’t answer him. Only after a short while did the rims of his eyes gradually redden little by little.

Startled, He Muyan thought he was unwilling and nervously wiped the corners of his eyes, “Lili, don’t cry. If you don’t want to…”

Song Li held his hand while shaking his head gently, “Which eye of yours saw me cry? I’m just a little happy.”

Hearing him say this, He Muyan put his heart at ease before letting out a soft sigh.

Song Li rarely ever saw him act like this, where was there even a trace of his usual decisive, formidable momentum? Looking at him with amusement, he said, “You’ve been hesitating to speak recently, and getting into a bad mood for no reason out of nowhere. Turns out you were secretly planning this matter all along! President He, you really know how to play the game.”

He Muyan asked him, “Play what game?”

Emmm… Song Li didn’t know how to answer him, so he had no choice but to switch the topic again, “Even so, you shouldn’t have been so close to another girl and intentionally testing me. You’re just taking advantage of my good temper.”

Hearing him bring up what happened earlier again, He Muyan knew he was in the wrong, but still carefully defended himself, “You said this morning that you wanted to eat oranges, so I originally went to check if there were any sold nearby. On my way back, I ran into that girl. She deliberately initiated a conversation with me. I didn’t want to pay attention to her at first, but after a few words, I suddenly noticed that she looked a little like you; especially when she smiled, her eyes looked even more similar. Looking at that face made me keep thinking of you, so I couldn’t bear to cut her off. Lili, didn’t you notice when you spoke to her just now? She looks very much like you.”

Song Li shook his head expressionlessly. He was practically furious to death back then, where would he have had the mind to check out what that girl looked like?

However, why did they sound so off to him after listening to He Muyan’s words just now? Why was there such a strong sense of a stalker-like vibe?

Seeing his expression, He Muyan thought he was still angry, so he carefully asked, “Lili, I won’t do this again in the future. Don’t be angry.”

Looking at him, Song Li let out a soft sigh, “I’m not angry. I just don’t like you testing me like you did today. He Muyan, in the future, if there’s anything on our minds, let’s not bottle it up. Let’s talk it out properly, okay?”

He Muyan nodded while looking into his eyes, “Then there’s still one sentence I haven’t told Lili.”

Why had he suddenly grown so solemn again? Song Li swallowed his saliva as he looked at him, “Go ahead.”

He Muyan took his hand, gently caressing each of his fingers before finally stopping at his middle finger, ducking his head to press a kiss upon it, “Lili, I want to buy a ring to bind you, so you can never leave from here.”

Song Li saw him place his other hand over the position of his left chest, his ink-black pupils deep and gentle, filled to the brim with his reflection.

In this single instant, Song Li felt his breathing briefly stall for a few seconds. His heart felt as though it had been yanked by something, numb and aching, before beginning to beat violently within his chest cavity, almost leaping out from the back of his throat.

He couldn’t say for sure whether the current He Muyan was confessing his love to him in a roundabout way, but whether he was or not, there was no need to confirm it with him anymore.

Song Li curled his middle finger, gently hooking it around He Muyan’s middle finger as well.

Looking at the doubt in He Muyan’s eyes, his face gradually grew hot little by little, “It can’t just be you binding me, it’s only fair if I bind you too.”

He Muyan let out a smile, using their hooked fingers to pull him into his arms, “Lili, I’m so happy right now.”

Buried in his arms, Song Li tried his best to hide his scorching red face.

Inside the tent, it was quiet and private. Having just confirmed their feelings for each other, it was the exact moment when they couldn’t help being affectionate. Just as He Muyan raised Song Li’s face to kiss him, Xue Sang’s voice calling for them suddenly came from outside.

“Song Li, are you in the tent? What are you doing? Come out quick to go fishing!”

Because he couldn’t wait for them to come over after waiting outside for a long time, Xue Sang started looking around for them.

Being interrupted so suddenly, He Muyan turned his head and gave a low click of his tongue.

Shy yet wanting to laugh, Song Li reached out and grabbed his collar, “Let’s go outside too.”

He Muyan looked down at him with his fingers rubbing against his blushing cheek.

Song Li clearly saw the desire in his eyes growing heavy once again.

“Wait for me for a moment.”

After speaking in a hoarse voice, He Muyan suddenly let go of him, got up, and walked toward the tent entrance.

Song Li heard the sound of the tent flap zipper opening, and then He Muyan stuck half his body out, saying to the person outside, “We’re not going. I’ll take Lili back in a bit.”

“Why are you inside too?!” Xue Sang was very surprised to see him, frowning as he said, “What are you two doing in there? Hurry up and let Lili out!”

He Muyan repeated, “I’ll take him back right away.”

“Hey, I asked if you don’t understand human words! Did you hear me telling you to let Song Li out?!”

Xue Sang’s voice sounded visibly angry. Fearing they might actually get into a fight; Song Li was just about to go out to mediate when he heard Ye Yi’s voice coming from outside.

“Alright, Xiao Sang. They have their own plans, let’s not interfere.”

“You don’t get it!” Xue Sang was still very angry, pointing at He Muyan, “This man is a s*x demon! He won’t even spare Song Li when out having fun! Song Li is still heavily pregnant right now, who knows what was done to him in there just now!”

Song Li: ……

His movement to get up froze, trembling all over from embarrassment.

Xue Sang! Aren’t you saying way too much?!

What should he do? Suddenly, he didn’t want to go out anymore.
