After waiting for the part-time staff to move away, she looked at Minato.

“Thank you very much for the thoughtful gift the other day. I received it with gratitude, but I hope that was okay for you?”

“Of course. Thank you again, really,” Minato replied politely in return, observing her. She really did seem to match Ogiwara. Realizing this, Minato was struck by how much lingering feelings he still had.

“I’m sorry it took me so long to express my thanks. I’ve been quite busy with both work and personal matters. Things have finally settled down, and I’ve just managed to make arrangements for my move.”

“…You’re moving out of that place?”

“Rather than moving out, it would be more accurate to say I’m getting rid of it. I should’ve done it sooner, but I was too scared to. For the past six months, it’s just been a storage space for my things.”

Her smile seemed completely at ease, but Minato must have shown some discomfort on his face, because she laughed lightly and continued.

“Since it’s a rental, once I clear it out, I won’t be able to go back. And it would take time and money to get rid of the furniture. I told Koushi that I’d leave everything and he should just move in as it is. He actually seems to be seriously considering it, you know?”

“Nakamori-san is moving out… not to live with him?” Minato asked for clarification, and she nodded with a smile.

“To be honest, I didn’t just move out—I got married. I’ve officially changed my status, so I no longer need a spare room for insurance purposes.”

“Wait, what? Nakamori-san, weren’t you living with Ogiwara? I mean… Ogiwara and you are a couple, right?”

“That’s not the case at all!” she said with a laugh. “The reason that room became a storage space and I had it lent out to Koushi was because I had been staying at my husband’s place. And, first of all, Koushi already has someone he really likes.”

As Nakamori laughed while inserting her spoon into the freshly delivered matcha parfait, Minato was left speechless.

“Not only is he not in a relationship, but it seems like he’s had his heart broken. And it’s because he just realized recently that the person was his first love. Apparently, he completely misjudged how to act and got rejected, and now he’s sulking and falling apart.”

“Falling apart? First love… heartbreak…” Minato repeated her words in a daze, while pulling his coffee cup closer to him.

Nakamori finished off the ice cream at the top of her parfait and began working on the coffee jelly in the middle. Watching her eat was oddly satisfying.

“He actually liked that person for a long time, but he never realized it. It’s so stupid, isn’t it? If he’d kept thinking about that person for ten years, he should’ve realized. He was just playing around with random people, so he didn’t notice. It’s totally his own fault.”

“…His own fault?” Minato echoed quietly.

“It was that person who got him into photography, you know? He’d been carrying around a photo from high school for years, and apparently that person told him he looked like a cloud, and he remembered it obsessively. That’s when he got interested in photography. It’s like he’s been obsessed with that person all this time, but he still doesn’t get it. It’s just so stupid, isn’t it?”

While talking, her eating pace didn’t slow, and the long spoon she was using reached the bottom of the container. After she finished, she clasped her hands together as if saying “thanks for the good meal,” then looked up at Minato and smiled sweetly.

“When he asked me to let him stay in my apartment, it was because that person had hurt his leg. He begged me, even bowing his head down, saying the stairs would be too difficult for that person. With that, I had no choice but to give him a spare key, right?”

“……”

Each of her words seemed to slowly sink into Minato. Though he understood their meaning, he couldn’t quite process them properly. Nakamori was seated in front of him, while Minato himself was seated facing away from the door.

“…You didn’t need to mention all the unnecessary details, you know?”

Then, a voice, tinged with irritation, came from behind Minato.

Nakamori raised an eyebrow and the corner of her mouth twisted into a challenging smile. “Is it unnecessary? Hmm, so it’s really unnecessary?”

“No, thank you. You’ve really helped me.”

The voice responding, sounding slightly sulky, was one he had heard almost every day until ten days ago. It was a deep, resonant voice, unchanged from their reunion after ten years.

“Well then, I’ll consider myself excused. Please take care of the bill. Oh, and Minato-sensei, this is for you.”

As she stood up, she pulled a piece of paper from her bag and handed it to him. Reflexively, Minato took it, and it turned out to be her business card, with her name in the center and ‘photography studio’ written under her title.

“As a way of taking responsibility for deceiving you, if you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to contact me. That guy can’t look my husband in the eye.”

“Yuki-san. Enough already—”

“Sure, sure. Minato-sensei, thank you. I had a great time.” With a smile until the end, she left the store.

After a sigh, footsteps circled around Minato. The empty seat Nakamori had just vacated was touched, but instead of sitting, that certain someone just stood and stared at Minato.

“Just for today. Could you listen to me for a moment?”

The voice that spoke wasn’t filled with playful words or attempts to persuade. It was direct and faced Minato head-on.

“I promise I won’t do anything you don’t want. I won’t ask for another chance. So, please.”

Overwhelmed by the earnest expression on Ogiwara’s face, Minato gave a small nod.

*Translator’s Note: The misunderstanding was cleared now. Heck. If only they were both honest from the beginning though… If Minato easily forgives him, Imma flip a table! -K
