WCHM Chapter 63

[Second World – ABO Plot – Poor Beta Student] Chapter 63

Lu Chi lost consciousness very quickly.

Because of that, he never learned that the instant he collapsed into Lin Jingsi’s arms, every live broadcast feed covering the D-Division Floating Island arena suddenly failed. The massive holographic screens flickered several times before going completely black, and the battered yet beautiful long-haired silver cat vanished from everyone’s sight.

The commentator froze, forgetting to even hold onto his microphone before immediately demanding answers through his earpiece.

“What happened? This is a moment that could go down in Federation competitive history! How can the feed cut out right now?!”

A B-rank Beta defeating an A-rank Alpha!

A victory the Federation had never witnessed before.

And that Beta had even made cat ears at the camera!

The colleague on the other end sounded even more distraught. In the background, the director could be heard wailing: “What sins have I committed to keep screwing up at crucial moments…?! These are the newest-generation systems! How could they possibly malfunction?!”

The audience erupted into chaos as well.

Yu Kexing and Luo Zexu had been blocked outside the arena by military personnel and couldn’t get anywhere near Lu Chi. The Omega assumed the broadcast failure was Lin Jingsi’s doing and was so furious his face turned pale.

“This is Floating Island, Yu Family territory! Lin Jingsi, what exactly are you trying to do?!”

The entire scene had become an absolute mess. At that moment, “Cocoon” suddenly broadcast a message to everyone’s terminal. Its voice remained as gentle and emotionless as ever, transmitting, “A fault has been detected in the D-Division power cable network of Floating Island. Repairs are currently underway. Please remain patient while maintenance is completed.”

“…”

What kind of ridiculous cable failure happened at a time like this?!

As people grumbled, they looked back toward the arena, only to discover that the area had already been sealed off and cleared out. The blood-covered Beta was nowhere to be seen, and only the unconscious Alpha and the shattered remains of his black mecha remained. The metal shell was covered in bullet marks, dents, and battle scars. It was difficult to imagine the ferocity of the fight that had taken place…

And even harder to imagine that a Beta could survive such an assault and overturn certain defeat.

Lin Jingsi held Lu Chi as carefully as though he were an injured silver cat.

Carrying him in his arms, he headed straight for the airship, while Yu Kexing chased after them, apparently intending to summon members of the Yu Family to stop them and take Lu Chi away. One of the military officers glanced at Lin Jingsi’s expression, and without warning, he struck. The blow landed with lightning speed, knocking Yu Kexing unconscious on the spot.

As for Lin Jingsi, he never even looked at those irrelevant people.

The only thing he noticed was the faint crease between the unconscious Beta’s brows, so he strode into the airship, sealed the hatch, and quickly disappeared into the sky.

A calming mist sprayed from the intelligent AI system.

Carefully laying Lu Chi onto a cushioned platform, Lin Jingsi frowned and wiped the sweat from his forehead, ordering, “Run a full-body scan immediately. Prepare restorative spray medication.”

[Understood, sir.]

Holographic light swept across Lu Chi’s unconscious body. Without wasting a second, Lin Jingsi soaked a towel in warm water. Once the scan began, he carefully removed the Beta’s combat uniform and started gently cleaning him.

The black suit was soaked through with blood. Underneath lingered the scent of rust and Lu Chi’s faint snow-like pheromones, yet Lin Jingsi felt not the slightest trace of desire.

His brows only tightened further.

His breathing grew heavier.

By the end, murderous intent filled his dark green eyes.

The young man lying before him had skin as pale and smooth as jade. But once the blood was cleaned away, countless bruises and purple marks appeared along his ribs, waist, and arms. His lips, usually rosy, had turned paper-white, and the bruising at his temples was especially severe. Even his throat had become swollen and red.

It was obvious at a glance… Excessive use of mental power had caused ruptured blood vessels and neurological strain. And repeated damage sustained during combat had left its marks throughout his body.

Lin Jingsi had spent years enduring injuries like these himself, so he instantly recognized every wound. And sure enough, the AI quickly reported its findings.

[Severe neurological strain detected. Patient is advised to rest before utilizing mental power again.]

[Additionally, apply medication to the back of the head, behind the ears, the temples…]

Lowering his eyes, Lin Jingsi swiftly and carefully administered the medicine. He cleaned Lu Chi’s hair, cleaned hisbody, and made sure every injury was properly treated.

The AI estimated Lu Chi would awaken in approximately five hours, so Lin Jingsi remained kneeling beside the platform. Their fingers intertwined as he silently stared at the beautiful, sharp-featured face before him and waited.

Night gradually fell.

Outside the window, blue-violet neon lights illuminated countless skyscrapers. The tournament broadcast appeared to have finally been repaired, and massive live images once again filled the screens.

The commentator sprang to his feet, his professional enthusiasm blazing as he shouted: “Friends, this is without a doubt a historic milestone!”

“In the history of the Federation Academy, and perhaps in interstellar history itself, there has never been a recorded case of a Beta defeating an Alpha!”

“Gender cannot be changed! Rank determines everything!”

“Every Federation citizen grows up hearing this cold truth about the world. We are gifted mental power by the heavens, yet cruelly divided into classes and ranks, defined by a rigid hierarchy from the moment we are born.”

“Human civilization has reached the pinnacle of technological advancement, yet social classes have become permanently entrenched. So what does this match mean?”

“It means that even if the odds are only one in ten million, a Beta can defeat an Alpha! It means we can hold onto hope. We can keep climbing!”

“I saw something entirely new today!”

The commentator no longer needed his script, no longer needed to say things like “Beta” or “this student.” Memories of his own difficult upbringing and hard-fought journey flashed through his mind. No one could truly understand another person unless they stood in that person’s shoes and saw the world from their perspective.

And for a Beta, the road was far harder than it was for an Alpha.

He was only a nineteen-year-old Beta… the commentator let out a breath. After a moment, he looked directly into the camera and smiled.

“Student Lu Chi, congratulations on winning your first match! You worked hard!”

“Get some good rest!”

“We look forward to seeing you again!”

“Good night!”

The broadcast ended. That night, no one knew how many people silently repeated those words in their hearts.

Congratulations, Lu Chi.

Good night, Lu Chi.

Lin Jingsi withdrew his gaze from the screen and turned to look at the sleeping Lu Chi. After a long pause, a smile of unmistakable pride finally appeared on his face, as he leaned down and gently kissed Lu Chi’s pale lips.

Lips resting softly against cold ones, the Alpha murmured in a low voice, “You were incredible.”

“Hurry and wake up, my hero.”

……………………

Darkness filled his vision, feeling like the very first moment he had ever sensed mental power.

Lu Chi lifted his eyes.

He walked through the endless black void, unhurried and composed, his expression calm and indifferent. He kept walking, then suddenly, a gaze settled upon him.

Clear. Cold.

Completely devoid of emotion.

Lu Chi narrowed his eyes. For what felt like the countless-th time, he sensed that familiar feeling of being watched. That gaze had appeared when he first awakened to mental power. It had appeared again when he gritted his teeth and dodged attacks throughout the match. And now, within this unconscious dream, it had returned once more.

Who was watching him?

Lu Chi said nothing. As if tired from walking, he simply sat down cross-legged where he was. Only darkness surrounded him.

Only himself.

Resting his chin lazily on one hand, he tilted his head.

[System?]

As expected, there was no response, and a little worry surfaced in Lu Chi’s heart. What if the system had been beaten even stupider by this match?!

Thinking of that, he couldn’t help sighing. His lowered eyelashes trembled like butterfly wings preparing to take flight, but the next second, Lu Chi heard an extremely faint voice.

It seemed to draw closer and farther away at the same time, impossible to distinguish. The voice brushed past the tip of his pale ear, as though it were right beside him.

[You came from… where…]

[You came from… where?]

[You came from… where?]

Lu Chi raised an eyebrow.

“…”

Well… straight to the point.

“Who are you?”

The voice didn’t answer, but Lu Chi wasn’t in any hurry. He calmly lowered his head and examined himself.

He was still nineteen, still with long, silver hair. He hadn’t suddenly changed, nor had he somehow been transported into another world. Even the ring on his finger remained.

Unconsciously, Lu Chi touched the diamond ring, and his eyes lowered slightly as he smiled.

“Good thing you didn’t take this away from me,” he said. “Otherwise, just wait for him to blow up your world.”

The moment the words left his mouth, the unseen gaze suddenly seemed to freeze, as though some catastrophic bug had locked up its entire system. Like someone covered in blood who didn’t even dare wipe their face, terrified of triggering an explosion.

Then Lu Chi felt something smack him hard on the shoulder, extremely… angrily.

“…”

That human-like, huh?!

The darkness before him suddenly dissolved like ink dispersing in water, and his senses gradually returned. Near his ear came the sound of steady breathing, so soft it was almost inaudible. His fingers were tightly entwined with someone else’s.

Dawn light seeped through the window. Lu Chi opened his eyes and found himself staring into a pair of deep green eyes. The system’s voice immediately sounded in his mind, celebrating his return.

[Baby, you’re awake! Then I can finally sleep without worrying! Mwah mwah mwah mwah mwah!]

Beside him, Lin Jingsi remained kneeling on one knee, completely expressionless and watching him without blinking. No matter how many times it happened, this man always seemed to appear beside Lu Chi, always prepared.

Always waiting.

“Awake?” he asked. The man carefully pulled the Beta into his arms. Lowering his head until their noses touched, he asked in a low voice, “Does anything still hurt? Do you need me to call a doctor?”

Lu Chi blinked. Feeling that most of the pain in his body had already faded, he gently shook his head. “Other than my nerves still aching a little,” he mumbled, “I can barely feel anything else anymore. What kind of medicine did you use?”

His voice was slightly hoarse from sleeping so long, and Lin Jingsi picked up a glass of warm water and held it to his lips.

“A new medication from the Research Institute. It only treats physical injuries. The drugs for neural damage are too dangerous, so I didn’t give you any. Resting is enough.”

“Your next match is a week from now. It happens to be on the same day as mine, so you’ll have plenty of time to recover.”

Held in Lin Jingsi’s arms, Lu Chi was being treated with all the care and caution one might show to an… elderly emperor.

Fed water. Gently patted on the back.

He couldn’t help laughing as he looked up. Leaning forward, he lightly nipped Lin Jingsi’s nose, as both arms wrapped around the Alpha’s neck. “Lin Jingsi,” his tone was intimate. “I’m not made of glass. Don’t fuss over me like this.”

Fresh from sleep, even the ending of his words sounded a little clingy. Lin Jingsi caught that trace of spoiled affection immediately, and his throat tightened. Steadily supporting Lu Chi’s bare body, he lowered his head as their heated breaths collided. His lips gently found Lu Chi’s.

Water-soft sounds intertwined. The kiss stretched on for a long time.

Lin Jingsi rubbed softly against Lu Chi’s lips, teasing and nibbling at the tip of his tongue. After a while, his voice grew even lower.

“Lu Chi.”

“Don’t get hurt again.”

Lu Chi paused. Then he heard him continue: “Do you know something?”

“At the time, I really wanted to force the match to stop.”

“And kill that Alpha.”

That battered, injured Lu Chi… The pupils of the S-rank Alpha had constricted violently, and his pheromones had nearly spiraled out of control. If “Cocoon” hadn’t immediately notified the military and had people rush over with emergency suppressants, he would have barely maintained his sanity.

Otherwise, he might have started killing on the spot.

But upon hearing that, Lu Chi only smiled. His tongue hooked teasingly against the other’s as his fingers gently squeezed the back of Lin Jingsi’s neck.

“Then why didn’t you stop it?”

After all, Lin Jingsi was not someone who changed his decisions because of family, authority, or anyone else’s expectations.

The young Alpha stared at him, his dark green eyes deep and steady. After a long moment, he answered calmly: “Because it was what you wanted.”

That battered, injured Lu Chi.

But also the Lu Chi who had shone brilliantly.

Beautiful. Sharp. Radiant.

It was Lu Chi’s life, his own path, his own heroic moment, earned through persistence and quiet determination. Lin Jingsi could worry about him, but he could not interfere.

He could protect him, but he could not use worry or anger as an excuse to drag him away from the road he had chosen. Lin Jingsi understood Lu Chi’s stubbornness, and respected every painful step he took.

When you truly love someone, you don’t want them to live forever beneath your protection. A shining soul should always be free, and he was willing to become the silent listener to that freedom.

A statue that waited quietly at the end of the road.

Still nibbling lightly at Lu Chi’s tongue, Lin Jingsi murmured after a long pause, “If only I could take your pain and divide it between us…”

When he saw Lu Chi shine, he felt pride, felt admiration and joy. But when he saw him hurt, he still felt heartache.

Anger.

Helplessness.

Which organization could invent a pain-transfer device?

The Homeland Group? The Research Institute?

Lu Chi laughed again, and their eyes met as if they carried magnets inside them. Unable to resist, they tangled together once more in another lingering kiss as the air gradually became warm and damp.

Held tightly in Lin Jingsi’s embrace, Lu Chi was kissed again and again. Their fingers remained intertwined.

Hot.

Damp.

Leaving beautiful red marks against pale skin.

In the end, surprisingly, it was Lin Jingsi who called a halt. The young Alpha’s pupils had tightened, and his breathing was heavy. Every so often, he lightly bit the tip of Lu Chi’s ear.

“You’re not fully recovered yet,” his voice had turned hoarse. “It’s not suitable to do anything…”

“Rest for a week first.”

“And the practical tournament will be over by then.”

Lu Chi laughed. Deliberately breathing against his ear, he felt the Alpha’s reaction become even more obvious. Only then did he smile and bury himself against Lin Jingsi’s shoulder.

He rubbed lightly against him, then said:

“I won’t be participating in next week’s match.”
