TSBSPAAM Chapter 76

Watch Out for Lu Shuqiao

Chapter 76: Watch Out for Lu Shuqiao

The explosion was very loud, causing many people to rush over. Upon seeing it was Lu Shuqiao, they resentfully dispersed.

“Yo, Dr. Lu, another failed experiment?”

Gu Yixi’s frivolous voice drifted over. He squinted at the chaotic scene with a hint of schadenfreude.

Lu Shuqiao still wore that lukewarm smile on his face. “Professor Gu, it’s not as good as your experiments, which can still persist for many years.”

This was implying that Gu Yixi’s experiments hadn’t progressed for years and hadn’t even reached the conditions to blow up a lab. Gu Yixi naturally understood the implication, but his expression didn’t change.

He and Lu Shuqiao had never really gotten along. They often greeted each other with smiles, but thought differently deep down. Over the years, they had gotten used to it.

Moreover, while others couldn’t see the dagger hidden in Lu Shuqiao’s smile, he understood it perfectly.

Additionally, most experiments at the First Military Academy were led by the two of them. Although their experiments didn’t interfere with each other, there were only so many lab buildings in the school, so they often ran into each other. Over time, they became at least familiar acquaintances.

Actually, there had been no direct conflict between them. If one had to pinpoint a reason, it was that their wavelengths as researchers clashed. Gu Yixi strongly disliked Lu Shuqiao’s attitude towards experiments.

He had always adhered to the principle of voluntary participation for test subjects, but Lu Shuqiao, who appeared gentle, was actually quite cold and indifferent towards his subjects.

He was almost fanatical about his experiments, indifferent to the condition of the subjects, even believing that being his test subject was an honor, and dedicating oneself to research was the highest glory.

“I can’t compare to Dr. Lu. I have things to do, so I won’t accompany you in admiring the view.”

“Please, Professor Gu.”

Gu Yixi walked straight away from the ruins towards the isolation building. He had just noticed that the place the man named Lu kept staring at seemed to be where his silly son was quarantined.

On the way, Gu Yixi ran into Shen Bumian. Shen Bumian was likely going to class, holding books in his hand.

“Teacher Gu.”

“Mianmian, this road is blocked and probably impassable. Take another route. Don’t be late for class.”

Shen Bumian silently looked not far behind Gu Yixi. He could see a crowd of people; it did look like the road was blocked. He vaguely felt that Gu Yixi didn’t want him to go over there.

“Thank you for the reminder, Teacher Gu. We’ll be going then.”

He pulled Zhou Yizhou and turned to go the other way. Gu Yixi didn’t forget to shout, “Mianmian, remember to go see Qin Luzhi and give him some charity.”

Shen Bumian nodded haphazardly. The people behind Gu Yixi took a few extra looks at Shen Bumian. It seemed Professor Gu had decided on this daughter-in-law, so at least there wouldn’t be any family disputes.

Zhou Yizhou secretly stretched his neck to look over there. He had been very curious about the explosion sound earlier; he had never seen a real explosion growing up.

But as soon as they got close, they met Gu Yixi. Even he could hear the deliberateness in his tone. Zhou Yizhou still trusted this powerful omega very much.

Since Gu Yixi didn’t want them to go over there now, he must have his reasons. Zhou Yizhou also subconsciously obeyed him.

As they walked, Shen Bumian turned his head slightly but didn’t spot anyone special.

Zhou Yizhou asked him, “What’s wrong, Mianmian?”

Shen Bumian: “Nothing, I probably saw wrong. I just felt like someone was watching us.”

Zhou Yizhou immediately looked around, but like Shen Bumian, he found no suspicious person, only a crowd of passersby watching the excitement and people in white coats who were likely from the lab.

“Holy crap, Mianmian, it was Dr. Lu’s lab that exploded. The gossip is about my own workplace?”

Shen Bumian reacted, thinking that Dr. Lu was the very capable person Zhou Yizhou mentioned last time, and Zhou Yizhou had been busy because he entered Lu Shuqiao’s lab.

“Then you?”

“Oh, I’m fine. I just started helping out and don’t have any attachment to this lab yet. I can’t say I’m sad, just feel it’s a bit of a pity.”

That seemed right. Zhou Yizhou had only been busy for that short period, mostly due to the complicated application process, not much to do with the experiments themselves.

Generally speaking, one wouldn’t develop an attachment to an experiment so quickly.

“Then let’s go. We’re going to class; we’re really going to be late.”

“That won’t do. Walk faster. This teacher is very strict; his scowling face looks so scary.”

Gu Yixi watched Shen Bumian and the others walk away from behind, finally retracting his gaze. “Alright, you guys go busy yourselves. I still have things to do.”

“Hey, Professor Gu, you think highly of Shen Bumian?” First keeping him from contacting Lu Shuqiao, then pulling him into the lab.

Gu Yixi snorted a laugh. “Of course. Maybe we’ll be family. Of course, I think highly of my own family.”

The group split up, and Gu Yixi went directly to the top floor of the isolation building. He saw Qin Luzhi lying on the iron bed with his eyes closed, resting. This was added later at his request, very hastily—just a wooden board on an iron frame.

Gu Yixi laughed out loud unceremoniously. “How did you get so pathetic after just a few days? Can the soft big bed at home no longer satisfy you?”

Qin Luzhi merely turned his back to the door without opening his eyes. “If you came specifically to laugh at my misery, you can leave.”

“Hey, how could I? As such an understanding dad, my heart is definitely with my son. Just now, I even told Mianmian to come see you!”

“By the way, you heard the explosion just now. That was Lu Shuqiao’s lab. That man is very smart, but equally dangerous.”

Qin Luzhi: “I know him. We just looked him up. His file is very clean, exceptionally outstanding.”

Gu Yixi: “Yes, almost a perfect persona. But as I said, this person is very dangerous. I had this feeling the first time I saw him.”

Qin Luzhi didn’t think Gu Yixi came just to tell him that his opponent was both excellent and dangerous. “Mm, what are you trying to say?”

Gu Yixi looked toward the window. “I don’t know if I saw wrong, but he seemed to be staring in your direction just now.”

Qin Luzhi: “It wasn’t an illusion. We made eye contact. He even said he was looking forward to it. The smile was distant but I could feel that flawlessness.”

Gu Yixi frowned, unsure of what Lu Shuqiao intended. Last time he said “looking forward to it” to an outstandingly strong Alpha, Gu Yixi saw that person in Lu Shuqiao’s lab the next time.

He had signed a voluntary agreement and become Lu Shuqiao’s test subject, cooperating with Lu Shuqiao’s ability enhancement experiments every week.

Gu Yixi had seen that person’s training. His aura and ability fluctuations were indeed much stronger than the first time he saw him.

It even made Gu Yixi wonder if Lu Shuqiao’s experiment had already succeeded. But on second thought, probably not, otherwise Lu Shuqiao would definitely have made a move and announced it to the world.

Gu Yixi hadn’t discovered why Lu Shuqiao had achieved such results yet, but his intuition told him it wasn’t anything good. Anyway, if it were him, he wouldn’t want to enhance his ability through Lu Shuqiao’s methods.

Qin Luzhi fell into deep thought after hearing this. Gu Yixi knew he had taken it to heart and finally instructed him with a serious gaze, “In short, be careful yourself, and also watch out for Mianmian.”

Hearing Gu Yixi mention Shen Bumian, Qin Luzhi didn’t feel happy, but rather worried for him. Remembering the two previous times Shen Bumian was abducted, Qin Zui and the others had caught some people, but those people either had bizarre and unpredictable abilities or were dead soldiers.

To this day, they hadn’t found any useful information or discovered anything, which frustrated them greatly.

“Alright, that’s all. Mianmian will likely come tonight, so we won’t bring you food. If Mianmian doesn’t come, don’t be dramatic. Nutrient solutions won’t kill you.”

Qin Luzhi: “…”

Suddenly, only Qin Luzhi was left on the top floor, the air filled with a cold silence.

Qin Luzhi waited until night, but Shen Bumian didn’t come.

However, Shen Bumian looked at the group of enthusiastic Alphas in front of him, sighing in his heart. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to deliver food to Qin Luzhi.

Lin An: “Sister-in-law, sit down quickly. We found a good angle for you. This is the best viewing position.”

He Jing punched Lin An. “Hey, I told you so. What are you plotting, kid? Boss isn’t here, and you’re so diligent?”

Chen Hebin also came over to join the fun. “Yeah, yeah, Lin An, something’s off with you. Never saw you take this competition so seriously before? Today you’re the most active. Something’s fishy, really fishy!”

Lin An rolled his eyes. “Tch, listen to you two talking nonsense. Isn’t this for the boss’s spatial stone? Remember? The top three can ask him for a spatial stone.”

He Jing: “You weren’t there at the time. Why are you joining in blindly?”

Chen Hebin: “Right, you didn’t go on the mission. You don’t count.”

Lin An immediately protested. “That won’t do. Everyone who sees it gets a share—oh wait, everyone who hears it gets a share. I know about this matter, which is equivalent to participating. And I’m participating in this competition, which means if I get into the top three, I can still ask the boss to fulfill his promise, right, sister-in-law?”

Shen Bumian then remembered that back in the cave in the Thirteen States, Qin Luzhi wanted to give him a spatial stone. The group started hooting that they wanted one too, saying something about “sharing the rain and dew equally.”

Then Qin Luzhi promised that the top three in their legion’s next competition could come to him to claim a processed spatial stone.

Shen Bumian nodded. “Yes, as long as it’s the top three.”

“So? You’re asking me to be the notary?”

Lin An shook his head. “We just want to invite you to watch, treat it as killing time if you’re bored. We have Mu Yi as the referee.”

“Ah, isn’t Mu Yi participating in this competition?”

He Jing: “Him? He usually doesn’t participate. Says fighting makes him sweat all over, which is annoying, and he has to shower. I laughed at him back then, a grown man afraid of sweating.”

Shen Bumian realized then that Mu Yi wasn’t there. But remembering his indifferent expression, he felt that Mu Yi wasn’t not participating because he was afraid of sweating. Maybe it was for someone?

Thinking that since it wasn’t a mandatory assessment, maybe he was going easy on someone? Shen Bumian felt that in terms of combat skills, Mu Yi seemed to be superior to He Jing, probably the most powerful person besides Qin Luzhi.
