Chapter 61: Accident
Shen Bumian pushed himself to his feet and quickly assessed the situation: an Alpha’s spiritual power had gone rampant. Something had provoked him, and he was attacking indiscriminately.
He had to be stopped quickly. However, the moment Shen Bumian stood up, his vision went black for an instant. He hadn’t eaten and was hungry; he was dizzy from low blood sugar.
In this condition, he wouldn’t be able to subdue the person. Everyone else had already woken up. The accompanying omegas, terrified of getting hurt, were all running towards the cave entrance.
The Alphas who remained behind charged forward together, attempting to restrain the rampaging man. Due to the peculiar nature of the Thirteen States, their powers were all greatly weakened, and for a moment, they couldn’t hold back the out-of-control Alpha.
He rushed out with the other omegas. Numerous ice cones materialized in mid-air, attacking in their direction. The Alphas chasing from behind reacted swiftly, forming a barrier in front of the group of omegas.
“Ah—”
It was Su Qingyu’s voice. Shen Bumian looked in his direction. They had been separated during the rush. Su Qingyu had run off to another side alone, and the ground, struck by the ice cones, split open right beside him.
Su Qingyu fell from the edge, but fortunately, he reacted quickly and grabbed a nearby tree branch. “Help me!”
The Alphas were tied up and couldn’t get free to pull him up. One of them shouted at the group of omegas, “Go save him!”
However, whether they were frightened or for some other reason, they remained huddled in a corner, unmoving, their faces pale as they stared in Su Qingyu’s direction.
Shen Bumian hesitated for a moment before running over. He half-knelt, grabbing Su Qingyu’s hand with one hand and using the other to grip a nearby branch for leverage.
Shen Bumian’s skin was delicate, and within a few short seconds, his hand was already scraped raw. “Su Qingyu, grab my hand and climb up.”
Su Qingyu’s face was filled with panic, his legs dangling in the air struggling frantically. Shen Bumian’s shoulder ached; he was about to lose his grip.
A light arrow pierced Shen Bumian’s back. The pain made him instantly let go, and both of them tumbled down the slope.
“Mianmian!”
Gu Yixi teleported to the spot but was still a step too late. Below them was a massive chasm, and no one knew what would happen if you fell down.
Qin Zui raised a hand and subdued the out-of-control Alpha, knocking him unconscious with a single chop to the neck. He grabbed Gu Yixi, who was about to jump down. “Don’t be reckless. You can’t be rash in the territory of the Thirteen States.”
Here, even Qin Zui’s spiritual power was partially weakened, and his senses were being blocked by something.
The Thirteen States had become even more dangerous and uncontrollable than the last time they were here.
Perhaps this was why Qin Luzhi and his team were trapped, or perhaps they had discovered something.
Shen Bumian didn’t know how long he had been tumbling. His last conscious thought was of a pain as if all his bones were breaking, and then he lost consciousness.
Su Qingyu was in a slightly better state than Shen Bumian. At the last moment, he had used his ability to cushion the fall. He looked at the nearby Shen Bumian and a smile touched his lips.
As expected, Shen Bumian’s constitutional issues meant he couldn’t use his abilities casually. From such a height, Shen Bumian was probably already dead from the fall. Su Qingyu turned his head and let out a few muffled coughs.
He closed his eyes, his keen hearing picking up some sounds. There was someone nearby! At such a close distance, the other party must have sensed his ability fluctuation just now. It wouldn’t take them long to find him.
He simply closed his eyes and let his chaotic consciousness faint away. At the very last moment, he thought he heard a familiar voice.
…
“Why isn’t he awake yet?”
“He fell from such a high place. What on earth happened?”
“You guys don’t think something really happened to sister-in-law, do you? The boss’s expression is so grim…”
“Go, go, stop talking. Be quiet!”
Su Qingyu slowly opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was a stone wall very similar to the one inside the station. Water droplets fell from the cave ceiling with a regular rhythm.
“Hey, you’re awake?”
“Where is this? Why am I here?” The delicate omega’s eyes were clear, showing the lack of clarity of someone who had just woken up after being injured and fainting.
Su Qingyu’s face held a perfectly measured look of confusion. He took a moment to get his bearings and finally saw his surroundings clearly. It was a natural stone cave, and the people here were the very squad they had been looking for, Qin Luzhi’s team.
“I… my name is Su Qingyu. I’m a healing-ability omega who participated in the search party this time. I came with Teacher Gu.”
Su Qingyu’s eyes widened as he introduced himself and his purpose in a single sentence, also clarifying his relationship with Gu Yixi.
After recovering, he pushed himself up against the wall and walked towards Qin Luzhi, then slowly knelt down, the omega’s voice filled with self-blame.
“It’s all my fault. Shen Bumian fell down by accident while trying to save me.”
A dark glint flashed in Su Qingyu’s eyes, so fast that no one saw it, or perhaps no one was paying attention to him.
Shen Bumian’s treatment was completely different from his. When the two were found by Qin Luzhi’s team, they had casually told an Alpha to carry Su Qingyu.
Qin Luzhi, on the other hand, had carefully held Shen Bumian in his arms. After returning to the stone cave, Su Qingyu was placed in a corner, while Shen Bumian was wrapped in Qin Luzhi’s jacket and lay in his arms.
Not a single part of his body touched the hard floor.
When Su Qingyu approached, Qin Luzhi frowned, feeling uncomfortable. He was never one to accommodate those who gave him a bad feeling.
“Don’t come any closer.”
Su Qingyu was startled by the low growl and froze on the spot, biting his lip hard. He looked very wronged, a pitiful sight.
However, no one paid him any mind. An Alpha directly pulled Su Qingyu away. “Um, sorry about that. The boss doesn’t like people getting too close to him. You can just stay over here.”
Su Qingyu felt that the more sincere the man’s tone was, the more of a slap in the face it was for him. Everyone here could see it clearly: Shen Bumian was lying right in Qin Luzhi’s arms. It wasn’t that he disliked people getting too close.
It was clearly that he only allowed Shen Bumian to be close. The rather large stone cave instantly fell silent. They all pretended not to have heard and looked away.
Before long, Mu Yi and He Jing returned, carrying a bottle and a pile of crackers.
“Boss, there’s not much left.”
They had been trapped here for several days, and the water and food they had brought were almost gone. It was one thing for them, as they were all Alphas, but now with two omegas, it was a different matter.
After all, an omega’s constitution couldn’t endure hunger.
The group looked at each other, a bit awkwardly. Only He Jing, with his usual carefree and roguish smile, tossed all the food he was holding onto the jacket next to Qin Luzhi.
“Sorry, but we have to wait for sister-in-law to wake up before we can distribute the remaining supplies.”
He Jing wasn’t looking at anyone, but everyone knew his words were directed at Su Qingyu. Su Qingyu’s face turned pale as he nodded and replied softly to He Jing, “It’s okay.”
Mu Yi sat down near Qin Luzhi and tilted his chin up. “Boss, what’s sister-in-law’s condition?”
Qin Luzhi’s face was dark, his eyes filled with heartache. “He was injured by an ice ability, cold energy has entered his body. His shoulder is strained, and his ankle is sprained. I don’t know why he isn’t waking up now.”
The more Qin Luzhi spoke, the lower the pressure in the air dropped. He didn’t know what kind of accident had happened to the team his father had brought, but Shen Bumian knew how to avoid risks on his own. That person had just said Shen Bumian fell while trying to save him.
Qin Luzhi was certain it was related to that person. Everything would have to wait until Shen Bumian woke up. He Jing and Mu Yi could also see the turbulent undercurrents in Qin Luzhi’s eyes and offered a silent moment of mourning for the omega in the distance who kept stealing glances in their direction.
The stomach of the only conscious omega in the room let out a soft growl. The Alphas, with their superior hearing, naturally heard it, but they all tacitly chose to ignore it.
Qin Luzhi had tried to use his healing ability on Shen Bumian, but the moment he made a move, Shen Bumian had let out a pained groan.
This scared Qin Luzhi into not trying again. It was very likely that the Thirteen States was affecting his ability, and Shen Bumian’s constitution couldn’t withstand his spiritual power healing.
Qin Luzhi, who had never felt much before, now deeply sensed the abnormality of Shen Bumian’s constitution. Shen Bumian’s weakness was like a damage to his very soul.
With occasional exercise, Shen Bumian would only be exhausted, and could even improve his stamina through training. But the moment he was attacked, it was as if he would be scattered by a gust of wind.
All his training was in vain, and he was back to square one. Su Qingyu, who was also an omega, had fallen from the same place but was largely unharmed. So, even though they were both ability users, Shen Bumian’s weakened state was abnormal.
Qin Luzhi’s eyes darkened. He looked down at the omega in his arms, thinking to himself that he would have to ask about this when they got back.
