PCMWF Chapter 212

Returning Home

Airport.

It was less than half a month until the New Year, and the airport was especially crowded. Shen Lin held up a banner and was accidentally bumped several times. He squeezed toward Chu Ying and said, “Good thing Youyou didn’t come. There are too many people here.”

It wasn’t just crowded. In the few minutes he had gotten out of the car to get the welcome sign and banner from the trunk, he had almost been blown away by the strong wind. Because of the crowd, the family of four had to be extremely vigilant. Even Shen Minyan was looking up into the distance. Chu Ying raised her hand to touch her chest, noticed the corner of her sleeve was folded, and lowered her head to smooth it out.

“Yanyan, do you think these shoes match my outfit?”

Shen Yan smiled. “Mom, you’ve asked me several times before we left. They look good. You’re the most beautiful woman at the airport.”

Chu Ying was indeed very nervous about meeting Su Siwen and Qin Kun.

Hearing her eldest son tease her, she patted his shoulder. “You just know how to flatter me. It’s my first time meeting Siwen and the others. I’m afraid of making a bad first impression.”

Shen Yan bent slightly and held her shoulders. “Mom, Uncle Su and Uncle Qin are very nice. You don’t need to be nervous.”

Chu Ying’s eyes warmed. She took several deep breaths before nodding. The airport broadcast soon announced the arrival of the flight from Country D. Many passengers came out of the exit. Shen Lin was about to climb onto the railing, wishing he were taller. His head turned left and right while he had to keep hold of the welcome sign.

“Dad, why can’t I see Uncle Su and the others? Can you see them?”

Among the father and sons, Shen Minyan was currently the tallest. He was looking carefully too. There was indeed no sign of Su Siwen and Qin Kun in the crowd.

Shen Yan pulled his mask up. “Uncle Su’s legs aren’t convenient. They must be at the back. Let’s wait slowly. We’ll find them eventually.”

Just as Shen Yan said, after all the passengers on the flight had come out, Qin Kun pushed Su Siwen in a wheelchair and slowly came over.

“Uncle Su, Uncle Qin, over here!!!”

Shen Lin darted out, grinning. “Uncle Su, Uncle Qin, welcome back to China. This is what Youyou and I drew for you.”

He put the banner on Su Siwen’s lap so he could see it clearly. Su Siwen’s fingertips stroked the banner. The childish strokes on it were obvious at a glance whose they were. A colorful family of three, and a little dog with a pink nose.

Both of them were quite moved. “Thank you.”

Shen Lin was young and expressive, while the other three adults were much more reserved. After Shen Minyan and Shen Yan greeted them, they consciously took the wheelchair and helped push it. And the luggage and bags in Qin Kun’s hands were all taken by Shen Lin. In less than five minutes after coming out, the two of them were completely unburdened.

Chu Ying was a bit nervous. After they finished their greetings, she stepped forward. She had only seen Su Siwen and Qin Kun in photos. Seeing them in person, these two were even younger than she had imagined. The young man in the wheelchair had delicate features, was clean and neat, and looked like someone with a very good temper.

And Qin Kun, standing behind him, had rugged features. He was carrying things in his hands and on his back, and a thermos was slung at his waist. Both looked much thinner than in the photos. Their eyes were very clear. Chu Ying walked over to greet them.

But as soon as she opened her mouth, tears fell uncontrollably. She quickly raised her hand to wipe them away, no longer caring about appearances. Her voice choked as she grabbed Su Siwen’s hand and said thank you several times.

Su Siwen’s eyes also warmed. Three years ago, when he found Youyou, he had blamed the strange woman who gave birth to him. Later, he had gone against his heart. When Youyou asked if his mother loved him, he said yes. His and Qin Kun’s original intention was simple. They hoped Youyou would grow into a good person and never know he had been abandoned.

Now, these cold hands were gripping his. Su Siwen could even feel Chu Ying trembling. Her child, whom she had risked her life to give birth to, had been stolen. She was the one in the most pain. Surely every night she fell asleep with guilt and piercing pain.

Su Siwen raised his hand, patted the back of her hand, and smiled. “Sister Chu Ying, we finally meet.”

He was truly gentle. There was no hysteria from being tormented by illness, only the warmth and gentleness that came from having weathered a thousand storms.

Chu Ying looked at him and nodded hard. “Yes, we finally meet.”

She could finally express her gratitude to them in person. Shen Minyan patted her shoulder, his Adam’s apple moving, his heart also moved.

“Youyou is still at home waiting for us. Let’s go home first.”

Chu Ying nodded. She saw Su Siwen was only wearing a sweater and a coat, which couldn’t withstand Beicheng’s severe winter. Fortunately, when they left, Tang Dou had prepared two long down jackets for them, which came in handy now. On the way back, the car was lively.

Chu Ying asked about their life abroad, then about Su Siwen’s current health. Qin Kun replied that Siwen’s attending doctor had already contacted a doctor in China and transferred his medical records and surgery data from abroad. Rehabilitation and follow-up examinations could all be done in China. Everyone was relieved. Good to be back. Good to be back.

As the car was about to enter Shenyuan, Shen Minyan suddenly said, “I took the liberty of having the house you stayed in last time cleaned up. You two will live here from now on. It’s close, so we can look after each other.” Qin Kun and Su Siwen exchanged a look. What, looking after each other? It was clearly the Shen family looking after them. Chu Ying already knew they weren’t the type to hold favors over others’ heads. She was both moved and heartbroken.

“Now that you’re sick, you can’t carry such heavy thoughts. We have plenty of empty houses here. Friends come to stay sometimes too. Besides, if you don’t live here, where would you live? Don’t you miss Youyou?”

Qin Kun had actually already contacted a real estate agent in Beicheng, planning to look at houses as soon as they returned. Before returning to China, the two had been firm. This time they absolutely couldn’t trouble Shen Minyan and the others. They were two grown men with hands and feet. The surgery was done. As long as they took their medicine properly and went to the hospital on time for rehabilitation training, full recovery was only a matter of time.

Su Siwen thought he earned his living with his brain and hands. It didn’t matter if his legs weren’t convenient. How could he be a parasite in someone else’s home and accept the Shen family’s care with a clear conscience?

“Youyou is used to living here now. If you live far away, he’ll definitely want to go find you. Running back and forth, he’ll catch a cold.”

Su Siwen was a bit moved but still didn’t agree. Qin Kun thought for a while, not wanting to waste their kindness, and finally said they were willing to stay in Shenyuan for a while. Shen Minyan was about to speak again to make them agree, but Chu Ying stopped him with a look. Staying for a while was fine. They could think of a way to keep them later.
