Winter mornings were always quiet. It had snowed again last night. The Shen family’s butler stood at the door, directing the servants to shovel the snow.
“Shovel all the snow clean. The little young master likes to run here. Don’t let him fall…”
The servants nodded and did their work diligently. The little young master was too cute. No one wanted to see such an adorable little dumpling fall and suffer. After giving instructions for the front yard, the butler put on gloves, changed his shoes, and took the shuttle cart to the greenhouse behind the garden. The greenhouse had a dedicated caretaker. Su Youli usually liked to go to the greenhouse and learn about growing vegetables from the sister in charge. After checking the greenhouse, the butler, as usual, went to the garden. The flower greenhouse was also the little young master’s little world…
From top to bottom, the Shen family doted on this lost-and-found little young master. Wherever the little young master liked to go, the butler had to patrol several times a day. At eight in the morning, the butler finished his patrol and took the shuttle cart back to the villa.
“Uncle Li, good morning!” Tang Dou greeted the butler with a smile.
The butler parked the cart and, seeing him smiling, smiled himself. “Didn’t I say you have to call me Grandpa?”
Tang Dou walked inside and said, “You’re so young. If I call you Grandpa, I’ll make you sound old.”
“The little young master calls you brother, so shouldn’t you call me Grandpa?”
The butler was quite insistent. Older people cared more about titles and generations.
Tang Dou laughed. “Uncle Li, we young people don’t care about that. If Youyou calls me uncle, then the two young masters would have to call me uncle too.”
The butler said, “Oh my.” “Right, right. The eldest young master is only a few years younger than you. No, no, that won’t do. Uncle won’t do.”
The two entered the door. The villa was very warm. Tang Dou changed his shoes and went to the kitchen. Even after he walked away, he could still hear the old man calculating generations. Tang Dou smiled and put his coat and bag in the first-floor nanny room.
He quietly went to the second floor and knocked on the door. A male voice quickly responded, “Come in.”
Yesterday, Shen Lin had slept with the little guy. Only when the two young masters accompanied him to sleep would Tang Dou go to the second floor to help Youyou wash up and get dressed. If it were the two parents, Tang Dou would only need to prepare breakfast for the little guy on the first floor. Teenagers were full of energy. Now that the little guy was on vacation and didn’t have to go to kindergarten, Shen Lin was determined to teach his little one to sleep in. The little guy had long been awake, but Second Brother was holding him tightly, not letting him get up to play.
“Brother Xiao Tang, save me.” A short little arm reached out from under the covers.
Tang Dou walked to the bed and rescued the little guy. When the little guy rubbed his eyes, he caught his little hands. “You can’t rub your eyes. Eyes are very fragile. If you’re not careful, you can rub them and damage them.”
The little guy immediately put his hands down and said sheepishly, “I forgot.”
Tang Dou carried the little guy to the bathroom to wash up, dressed him, and carried the warm little guy to the first floor for breakfast.
The teenager on the bed was still asleep. As Su Youli passed by, he ran to the bedside and put his hands on the edge of the bed. “Second Brother, I’m first place.”
Shen Lin opened one eye. “I told you yesterday, the one who gets up latest is first place. You’re last place now.”
The little guy pounced on him and patted Second Brother with his hand. “I’m not last place. Teacher Apple gave me a certificate and a little red flower.”
Shen Lin said weakly, “I have one too. Every kid has one.”
“Then, Second Brother, we’re both amazing kids, right?”
Shen Lin: “…”
“Right. Now go downstairs. I’ll sleep a bit more.”
After the little guy ate breakfast, Shen Lin was dragged out of bed by Shen Yan, who had come home, and pulled to the first-floor dining table. “What did you do last night? You’re this tired?”
Shen Lin took two bites of breakfast and gestured with his chin at the little guy in the high chair. “Youyou insisted on hearing me sing last night. He wouldn’t sleep if I didn’t sing.”
“Then sing.”
Shen Lin: “I was afraid if I sang, he’d be even less able to sleep.”
“Second Brother sings a little bit badly,” the little guy evaluated seriously.
Shen Lin refused to admit it. The little guy rolled up his sweater sleeve, swiped a few times on his watch with his little hand, and Shen Lin’s off-key singing immediately filled the living room. The whole room burst into laughter.
Shen Lin grabbed the little kid and pinched his cheek fat. “Well, well, Su Youli, do you know this is an invasion of privacy?”
Breakfast was finished amid the noise. After breakfast, Tang Dou noticed the little guy didn’t say he wanted to watch cartoons like usual, but instead secretly went back to his room with Yuanzi. The little one and the dog were sneaky, not knowing what they were hiding from them. Tang Dou quietly followed, pretending to tidy the room, but actually keeping his ears pricked up for any sounds.
In the walk-in closet, Su Youli sat on the rug, struggling to pull out a small certificate and a small transparent bag from the cabinet, especially for his little red flowers and little stars. There were also a few candies, rewards from Teacher Apple for the best-behaved child. He couldn’t bear to eat them all, so he kept them in the cabinet. Su Yuanzi beside him smelled the candy and wagged his tail, hopping left and right.
“No, these are gifts for Little Dad and Kun Kun. And, and you’re a dog, you shouldn’t eat human candy…”
Su Youli reasoned with the dog seriously. Su Yuanzi let out a mournful whine, and the little guy felt a bit guilty.
“Then I, then I’ll make you a bone candy to eat, okay?”
“Woof woof!”
After coaxing the dog, the little guy carried the “gifts” out and put them on the floor, carefully smoothing them with his hand. Then he ran back to the room and pulled out a gift box about his size from under the table. He had asked Dad to buy it for him when they went to the mall that day. Tang Dou glanced over and saw the little guy trying hard to carry the box in, then carrying it out again shortly after.
“Brother Xiao Tang, can you help me?”
The box was sealed tightly. He had finally opened it and put the “gifts” inside, but then he couldn’t close it again. Although the “surprise” was important, the little guy was more afraid of breaking the box. Tang Dou closed the gift box and tied a pretty bow on it. The little guy loved it, his round eyes looking around the gift box.
Dad would definitely like his gift. This was his most, most precious thing, earned through his own efforts. The happiness only lasted a few hours. It was freezing outside, and the parents really didn’t feel comfortable letting the little guy go to the airport to pick them up. Standing on the doorstep, watching the backs of Mom, Dad, and his brothers leaving, the little guy held his little hands and sulked for a while.
Hmph.
He wouldn’t get sick. He was the healthiest kid. This little bit of a cold was nothing! The little guy flew after the car, running behind it. Tang Dou caught up in a few steps and crouched down to reason with him. The little guy covered his ears. Not listening, not listening. Brother Xiao Tang was chanting. The villa gate not far away opened, and Pei Qiqi, in a blue down jacket, ran over.
“Youyou, don’t play outside. You’ll catch a cold!”
“Brother Qiqi, I’m not playing.” The little guy walked over on his own. The two little ones held hands and obediently went home.
Tang Dou, whose mouth was dry from talking: “?”
