After Fang Qin left, Shen Minyan made a video call to Tang Dou. After connecting and greeting each other, Tang Dou aimed the camera at the two little ones eating fries.
“Youyou.”
In the frame, Youyou held a fry in each hand, taking a bite himself and feeding Tang Dou a bite. Ketchup was sour and sweet, and the fries were delicious even eaten plain. The little guy’s cheeks were puffed out. When he heard Dad call him, he tilted his head.
“Dad, are you done fighting the bad guys?” The little guy was a bit unclear when talking with food in his mouth.
Because of the little guy’s height, the family was very strict about his diet. Foods like burgers and fries were eaten less than once a month. But actually, Shen Lin had secretly taken him out to eat delicious food several times. The little guy satisfied his cravings and ate obediently when he got home.
Shen Minyan chuckled. “Yes, Dad finished fighting the bad guys. Now I’m coming to find you, okay?”
The little guy nodded and grabbed the big burger beside him to show Dad. “Dad, I saved a burger for you.”
“Thank you, Youyou. Dad happens to be hungry.”
The children’s meals Tang Dou ordered for the two little ones weren’t much. When Pei Yi and Shen Minyan arrived, they finished off what their kids had left.
Youyou thought of his second brother at home playing games and tugged his dad’s sleeve. “Dad, Second Brother hasn’t eaten.”
Shen Minyan had just finished a chicken leg, the one the little guy had saved for his second brother. Little Su Youli was a very warm-hearted baby. When he was little and went shopping with Little Dad, a kind grandpa selling candied hawthorn gave him a delicious stick of candied hawthorn. He only ate two and saved the rest for Kun Kun. Second Brother was home alone today. Just thinking about it made him seem a little pitiful.
Shen Minyan, for the first time ever, ordered KFC delivery for his second son and told Youyou, “Dad already ordered for Second Brother. He won’t go hungry.”
Only then did the little guy relax. Pei Qiqi only ate a small egg tart and a few fries. The rest was eaten by Pei Yi. After eating, Hua Zhao found an excuse to slip away, taking Qiqi to buy Youyou a birthday present.
The little guy was a bit reluctant to part with Brother Qiqi. As he was leaving, he said, “Brother Qiqi, if anyone bullies you, you must call me. I’ll bring my dad to help.”
Everyone present laughed. The two families split up. Since it was a rare trip to the mall, Shen Minyan planned to take the little guy to buy some winter clothes. Pei Qiqi wore a small mask, revealing a pair of black-and-white eyes. He obediently held his uncle and aunt’s hands. Every time he passed a shop window, he had to seriously consider whether the item was suitable for Youyou. Pei Yi noticed his silence and held him upright, bouncing him a few times in his arms. The child who was suddenly picked up wasn’t scared. He was even a little happy when tossed up.
“Qiqi, your mom took away everything your dad left you. Today your uncle and aunt helped you get it back. Are you happy?”
Pei Qiqi was a bit confused but still nodded.
Pei Yi pressed his forehead against his, his voice as soft as if talking to himself. “In the future, Uncle won’t let anyone hurt you again. Absolutely not.”
Snowflakes fluttered. The family of three, having finished shopping, walked out of the mall and grabbed snow from the stone blocks at the entrance. Pei Qiqi grabbed a handful of snow, rolled it into a ball, took small steps to run behind his uncle, and threw it at his uncle’s shoe. Pei Yi was crouching there. Feeling the force at his ankle, he turned back and saw Pei Qiqi’s mask pulled down to his chin, revealing a handsome little face.
Pei Xu had inherited his father’s good looks, with clear, three-dimensional features.
When he wasn’t smiling, he was a very cool child. When he smiled, his black-and-white eyes curved, and the baby fat on his cheeks neutralized the cool temperament. Snowflakes stuck to Pei Yi’s eyelashes. He blinked, and the snowflakes melted on his lashes, blurring his vision.
“Xiao Yi, thank you for protecting Qiqi for me.”
Pei Yi was in a daze, seeing his brother holding Qiqi’s hand, running in the snow.
“Brother.” He murmured. His eyelashes couldn’t bear the weight of the snowflakes, which melted into snow water and ran down his cheeks.
“Uncle, hey.” A small snowball hit his face, cool and cold.
Pei Yi wiped his face and saw Qiqi smiling with curved eyes, looking silly.
His nose tingled. Pei Yi propped himself up on his knees, grabbed a handful of snow, and darted out. “Pei Qiqi, you’re finished!”
Pei Qiqi covered his little mouth and quickly hid behind his aunt. Pei Yi put the small snowball on his head. Qiqi hugged his head with both hands and shook it wildly, his eyes and brows full of laughter. Hua Zhao wasn’t idle either. She recorded a video while giggling, and posted the video of the big one and the little one rolling around in the snow to her Moments.
From this day on, there was no longer a mother in Pei Qiqi’s world. He no longer looked forward to his mother’s love, because he already had the most precious love in the world. When Pei Qiqi was younger, he had a strong emotional need for his mother, an innate dependence on her until he grew a little older, after his father passed away. Only then did he gradually understand that his mother didn’t love him the way his father had said.
His mother only loved herself. Two days later, Hua Zhao and Pei Yi settled Qiqi at the Shen house and met with Fang Qin. At this point, Pei Xu’s custody finally belonged to Pei Yi. With the help of the two lawyers, the portion of the estate that belonged to Pei Xu was finally recovered. After dinner that day, Hua Zhao was teaching Chu Ying how to make desserts when she learned from her that Fang Qin had sold many luxury items to pay back Pei Xu’s portion of the estate. This matter became a joke in Beicheng’s wealthy ladies’ circle for a long time.
“She abandoned Qiqi back then to marry into a wealthy family. Now she’s finally gotten what she deserved,” Chu Ying said as she stirred the egg mixture.
“Even if she hadn’t married, she wouldn’t have treated Qiqi well.”
Fang Qin was selfish and vain. A child would only hold her back. Hua Zhao held a piping bag and turned back. On the living room carpet, the two little ones were happily playing with Yuanzi, sticking out their tongues like the dog.
“Brother Qiqi, why aren’t you sticking out your tongue?”
Pei Qiqi thought it looked ugly and didn’t want to imitate the dog. The little guy opposite didn’t force him. He bent his arms in front of his chest, wrists bent with his little hands in fists, looking a bit like Su Yuanzi beside him.
Pei Qiqi burst out laughing and reached out to scratch his chin, like teasing a puppy. “Youyou puppy.”
The Youyou puppy turned around, wiggled his bottom, and panted “ha, ha” like a dog. Hua Zhao was so amused by them that her hands were shaking. The earlier unpleasantness was all gone. Chu Ying heard they wanted to sue Fang Qin for “abandonment” and was a little worried the Cen family would intervene. Hua Zhao wasn’t worried at all. The Cen family had always been controlled by Cen Zheping’s mother. According to Leah, Old Mrs. Cen was already having her son divorce Fang Qin. If he didn’t divorce, she would take Cen Yuankai to raise herself. Cen Yuankai was Cen Zheping’s lifeblood. Their divorce was only a matter of time.
