Chapter 1: “Yes, I’ll open it now”

It was the first time in my life that I was late.

I hurriedly put on my school uniform and dashed out of the room without even looking at the mirror. I can’t tie my shoelaces properly, which makes me frustrated. It’s my favorite design of shoes but this is unfortunately the only stock left. This is the result of thinking that wearing a slightly bigger size doesn’t matter. If I don’t tighten my shoelaces, they’ll come off while I’m running.

“Fashion is patience, huh…… I can feel it in my bones.”

I remember the face of my best friend who said that.

When I was finally about to leave after tying my shoelaces, the doorbell rang.

“……?”

Who could be visiting my house when I’m about to be late?

I went to a high school far from my parents’ house, and my overprotective parents gave me an apartment. When I first moved in, there was a lot of solicitation and other things, and it was kind of boring, but lately it’s been quiet. Only friends should visit my house like that.

However, there’s no way a friend who goes to the same high school would come to my house when I’m late.

……If so, who on earth is it?

Forgetting that I’m late, I ruminate. All the while, there was definitely someone on the other side of the door, leaning against it or wandering around.

A guest who does not want to go back even though there’s no one inside.

Is there a guest like that? Furthermore, if it’s someone who knows that I went to school, they shouldn’t be coming by here in the first place.

A door that cannot be opened.

I thought about opening the door without hesitation and driving the guest away, but I can’t do that. As expected, the only thing I can do is probably to just make up my mind to open the door, kindly, carefully, and thoroughly tell them to go back. That’s the best choice.

“Yes, I’ll open it now.”

Without looking through the peephole, I slowly opened the door.
