GUL Chapter 27: The Bitter Supporting Male Rewrites the Script Online

996 had been wandering outside for half a month. When it reappeared, it had lost a lot of weight, its fur was dirty and matted, and it had lost all its divine envoy dignity.

“Qin Qing, confess to Cang Ming. Tell him you like him.” 996 carefully kept its distance from Cang Ming, sneaking over to Qin Qing’s feet and urging in a low voice.

In the script, it was exactly this desperate confession that got the original owner fired by Cang Ming. Later, after Qin Zishi was grandly invited back to the company, it was on his guarantee that the original owner returned to work. Remembering this plot, 996, who had been out conquering a gang of stray cats and dogs to become a street boss, rushed back. Qin Qing, who had been drinking champagne, nearly choked. He put down his glass and looked at Cang Ming.

Cang Ming wore a dark blue suit today, a multi-million dollar watch on his wrist, and a platinum ouroboros tie clip with blue diamonds for eyes. Looking up from the tie was a strikingly handsome face. At this moment, that face was lowered, his unfathomable eyes gazing silently over. A dangerous, proud, and sharply cold aura expanded around him. His tall figure stood on the not-so-small balcony, his overwhelming presence burning the air around him.

The guests in the banquet hall still kept their eyes on him. Fearful, probing, or fervent gazes were constantly directed at this originally quiet corner. Qin Qing licked his champagne-moist lips. Meeting Cang Ming’s gaze, he felt an inexplicable tension. His keen sixth sense kept telling him that Cang Ming was an extremely dangerous person. Cang Ming also placed his glass on the low table and looked silently at Qin Qing. He seemed to be waiting for something.

“Confess. Please, I’m begging you. Just follow this plot point and see if this world can still be saved. I don’t want to be trapped in an endless loop forever. I want to get out.” 996 covered its face with its dirty paws, pretending to sob, peeking at Qin Qing’s reaction through its claws.

Qin Qing, locked in a silent gaze with Cang Ming, suddenly tilted his head and broke into a clear, water-like smile.

Cang Ming’s eyes flickered. He asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”

He raised his glass and took a gulp of the amber liquid. The spicy liquor burned down his throat into his chest, tightening his heart. But from Qin Qing’s perspective, this dangerous, handsome man was wearing a cold, forbidding expression, radiating an unapproachable aura. Confess to Cang Ming like this? Impossible.

Qin Qing shook his head, his gaze moving to the dark night sky. “Nothing.”

Cang Ming tightened his grip on the glass, pressing his thin lips together, his aura growing even colder. A moment of emptiness made him lose focus. But he didn’t leave the flower-filled balcony. He stood silently beside Qin Qing, following his gaze to the empty, bottomless night sky. There was no rain tonight, but no stars or moon either. Severe air pollution had made the city’s sky increasingly murky.

“There’s nothing good to see here.” Cang Ming started the conversation. Anyone who knew him would know how unusual this was.

Qin Qing shook his head and said softly, “How can you say that? Look over there.”

Qin Qing pointed at the skyscrapers standing against the night sky. They were brilliantly lit, shining with dazzling light, flickering with neon colors.

“God loves the lights of the world more than his own great stars.” Qin Qing recited slowly in a low, gentle voice.

Cang Ming thought for a moment, then asked in confusion, “What does that mean?”

“It’s a poem from Tagore’s Stray Birds. Haven’t you heard it?” Qin Qing was still gazing at the night sky.

“I never read poetry.” Cang Ming shook his head expressionlessly.

“Why?”

Cang Ming was silent.

“Because you can’t feel the beauty of poetry?”

Cang Ming shook his head and criticized bluntly: “It’s all just sentimental nonsense.”

Qin Qing took a deep breath and said slowly, pointing at the night sky: “Even God loves the lights of the world, so the most beautiful scenery is right here in the mortal world. How can you not feel its beauty?”

He turned to look at Cang Ming, his eyes reflecting thousands of lights. The warm orange glow painted his pale cheeks with warmth. Cang Ming stared at this warm, glowing face.

“God doesn’t love the lights of the world.” He shook his head, his tone cold and firm.

“How do you know?” Qin Qing frowned.

“Because the lights of the world are boring.”

“That sounds familiar. I think I’ve heard someone say that before.” Qin Qing thought for a moment, then shook his head with a laugh: “President Cang, you and President Xu are so alike. He also says the world is boring.”

“Isn’t it? Can you even say why you’re alive?” Cang Ming drained his glass, his tone weary: “No matter how strong the liquor, it’s as bland as plain water.”

He put down his glass, his dark eyes devoid of emotion as he looked at this dazzling world.

Qin Qing didn’t like this pessimistic attitude. He thought for a moment and said, “I can’t really say why I’m alive. It’s hard to describe. It’s like a flower.”

Qin Qing reached out and gently touched a white rose blooming near his shoulder, smiling softly as he spoke: “Like a flower, it grows here, weathering the wind and rain. If one day the storm destroys it and makes it wither, then it withers. If one day it survives the storm and reaches its blooming time, then it blooms. If you ask it why it lives like this, it can only tell you that it is a flower, and it wants to bloom, even if its ultimate fate is to wither. The world is perhaps a little more beautiful because of it, or perhaps it’s because the world is so beautiful that such a flower was born. Living is a beautiful thing in itself. Why are there so many questions? Don’t you agree?”

Qin Qing leaned on the railing, propping his cheek, his clear eyes fixed on Cang Ming. A white rose bloomed beside his neck, brushing against his bewitchingly handsome face. Clusters of blue-purple hydrangeas surrounded his feet like worshipping subjects. Standing in the midst of the flourishing flowers, with the dark sky behind him and the brilliant lights before him, he slowly told the story of a flower’s fate. His gentle voice was like the trembling of petals blooming silently in the night. Cang Ming couldn’t feel the beauty of the world, but at this moment, he suddenly glimpsed the beauty of a flower. His eyes couldn’t leave Qin Qing.

The deep sound of a cello came from the banquet hall, like a river flowing slowly through the night. Qin Qing listened for a moment and sighed, “Isn’t it nice to enjoy the city’s night view with music?”

“Yes.” Cang Ming nodded absentmindedly, his voice deep and hoarse. He had fallen into a strange state of intoxication, whereas before, even countless strong liquors couldn’t cloud his mind.

“Look over there.” Qin Qing pointed at the sky, his eyes sparkling with surprise.

Cang Ming followed his finger, his emotions and body unconsciously controlled. A dense cluster of bright spots floated in the air, slowly forming the pattern of a red rose, then the face of a beautiful girl. The girl smiled brightly, her eyes curved.

“It’s a drone show.” Cang Ming explained.

“How beautiful the stars of the mortal world are.” Qin Qing sighed contentedly.

The girl’s face slowly dispersed into scattered dots, then reformed into the words: “Doudou, will you marry me?”

“Someone’s proposing.” Qin Qing leaned on the railing, laughing in the evening breeze.

He turned to look at Cang Ming, his voice carrying a hint of joy: “I bet the girl named Doudou will hug the boy and kiss him in surprise. Don’t you think God would love this kind of world? How interesting it is.”

Cang Ming shook his head silently. When it came to the mortal world, he could never empathize.

“The truth might be the opposite of what you imagine. If the girl doesn’t like such a public proposal, she’ll only feel embarrassed.” Cang Ming punctured Qin Qing’s small joy.

“I’m starting to think it’s not the world that’s boring, but you.” Qin Qing was a little annoyed, his pale cheeks flushing.

A breath of fresh, intoxicating fragrance washed over him. Cang Ming secretly took a deep breath, then took out his phone and sent a message.

A moment later, he handed his phone to Qin Qing, his voice low: “Look.”

A video played on the phone. A rich second-generation in designer clothes was taking a huge bouquet of roses from a red sports car and handing it to a beautiful girl. A crowd of onlookers stood around, with the drone-written proposal words floating overhead.

The crowd chanted, wave after wave: “Marry him, marry him, marry him…”

If the girl didn’t agree, the chanting wouldn’t stop. But the girl actually refused the bouquet, announcing loudly that she already had a boyfriend and would only marry him. A tall, handsome boy was pushed forward, blushing as he looked at the girl. He was dressed simply and looked nervous. He was clearly her boyfriend, but his family background seemed modest. The crowd booed. The rich second-generation showed an angry, resentful expression. The girl urged the boy to say something, not a proposal, just a confession of love. But the boy ran away in fear. The humiliated rich second-generation and his friends began attacking the girl, calling her cheap, ungrateful, and a slut no one wanted. The girl cried loudly in shame amidst the insults.

“See, this is how boring the world really is. Its true face doesn’t match your imagination.” Cang Ming said, ruining the mood.

Qin Qing was frustrated. He finally understood why people always put the word “dead” in front of “straight man.”

“President Cang, do you have any friends?” His smile was gentle, but his tone carried a hint of sarcasm.

Cang Ming shook his head, indifferent: “I don’t need friends.”

Qin Qing took a deep breath. Suddenly, he didn’t want to talk to this emotionless machine anymore. Just then, he looked down and saw a figure rushing out from the banquet hall on the first floor. It was Zhou Linlin. She wore a pink strapless gown, a huge bow pinned at her lower back. Her waist-length hair was curled, and she wore an equally large pink bow on her head. She looked like a cake tower. The hem of her pink dress was caught by a branch, causing her to fall hard. A wealthy woman chased after her. Seeing Zhou Linlin on the ground, she hurried to help, but was pulled back by a middle-aged man who followed.

“Let her go if she wants to leave. Don’t stop her. She can’t handle herself and only belongs in the countryside.”

The man’s voice was full of indifference and disgust. From his words, he was probably Zhou Linlin’s father. Zhou Linlin tried to get up, but her extravagant gothic skirt trapped her like a cage. She looked back at her parents, tears streaming down her face in the light. She was so helpless, so pathetic.

Qin Qing’s eyes lost their last trace of softness. He said slowly, “President Cang, you’re right. Sometimes the truth is hateful. But do you know what a flower’s mission is?”

“To bloom beautifully.” 996, who had been silent in the corner, raised its paw and answered.

Cang Ming was silent, his heart stirring. He wanted to steal this answer because he could tell Qin Qing was getting upset.

But before he could answer, Qin Qing spoke slowly: “To give comfort to those in need.”
