最佳契合 (Perfect Match) – 十九瑶

Chapter 3

They chose a café near He An’s apartment for their little “serious talk.”

Zheng Feiluan and Cheng Xiu sat together at a table by the window, with He An sitting alone across from them. In workplace politics, playing the perfect terrified servant for his boss is a fatal sin—but Cheng Xiu still pretended to shake like a leaf as he held his briefcase to his chest. He didn’t dare to sit fully on the seat; instead, he sat on the edge like an idiot with urinary incontinence symptoms from a men’s health ad.

He An, however, was as quiet as a lamb. He was holding a mug of hot chocolate in both of his hands. He stared at Zheng Feiluan’s face for a long time, his lashes fluttering every now and then. His eyes were full of warmth—like he was looking at a lover he had been with for years.

How could he not? It had been exactly one year and three months since they met. Who can say a love like that hasn’t been long enough?

Zheng Feiluan had even ordered a steaming cup of hot chocolate for him. It was the first “gift” he had ever gotten from him. It was so good that he didn’t even want to swallow it. He wanted to hold it in his mouth a long time.

Everything from last night had drained him. He had been pushed too far and was left cold. Now, his body heat was rising degree by degree. Despite it being early October, he was bundled up in a heavy, fuzzy coat and a cream-colored knit scarf, which caused his cheeks to flush and his lips to dry up.

Underneath the coat, his six-month tummy was hidden, its curve not too obvious—but the baby was kicking much more often than usual.

Is it because Daddy was close?

With his lashes lowered, he consoled the child through the fabric, whispering in his heart: Easy now, don’t rush. I’ll let you taste the hot chocolate Daddy gave us, okay?

With that, he swallowed the lump in his throat that he had been holding onto for so long.

But the heat went away too quickly, making him cold again, so he bent his head and took another sip. This time, instead of swallowing, he allowed the entire mouthful to rest between his teeth and lips, allowing his tongue to relish in the taste. His long lashes quiver as he raises his eyes toward his alpha, filled with tender love.

He hadn’t seen Zheng Feiluan conscious and sober in a long time.

Honestly, aside from that brief first encounter, Zheng Feiluan had only ever appeared before him in a hazy, half-delirious state—just pinning him down and fucking him over and over, barely saying a word. It wasn’t that he disliked Zheng Feiluan in bed; he was an omega after all, and the instinctive craving to be taken, to be filled, was carved straight into his genes. When their bodies happened to sync just right, he’d even reach orgasm so hard he ended up crying. But that was still just a small part of the man’s soul—one messy, unfinished part.

Only when Zheng Feiluan got out of that violent, mindless rutting state did the real, mature man beneath finally show.

Just as Cheng Xiu returned from getting new clothes, Zheng Feiluan changed immediately before their eyes. As he stood in front of the mirror, he skillfully adjusted the cuffs of his shirt, showing off his distinctive poise and control. Sitting on the edge of the mattress, He An was completely fixated, unable to take his eyes off of Zheng Feiluan—the one he had desired over countless magazine spreads—in monochrome photos taken in harsh lighting, with tailored suits wrapping broad shoulders, eyes that were both deep and unreadable, and a suffocating combination of discipline and sex appeal radiating from every movement. Just by standing there, the man exuded an air of unshakable power that drove people to throw themselves at his feet.

His beloved alpha had regained his composure and was now seated across from him, frowning as he reviewed a medical report from last year.

Paroxysmal Autonomic Mate-Seeking Disorder… Mate-seeking?” Zheng Feiluan traced his finger across the line of text, leaving a smear of ink, “Explain.”

Cheng Xiu pulled out three tissues at once, wiped his sweat, and spelled out the definition, “Mate-Seeking Disorder is a condition where an alpha, when under extreme negative emotional stress, enters a state of impaired consciousness. Instinctively, without self-awareness, seeks out an omega partner, engages in semi-impulsive sexual activity, achieves emotional stability, and then forgets about the whole experience afterwards. This usually happens when—”

Zheng Feiluan slammed the table, “Layman here.”

“Uh… ” Cheng Xiu froze. His eyes shot up to the ceiling, as if he could find a way out of trouble there. He was shaking more than before.

He An felt sorry for him and gave a small, soft smile and said, “Let me explain.”

Zheng Feiluan gave him a quick look, then opened his hand and made a polite, reflexive gesture to tell him to go ahead.

He An straightened up a little, one hand supporting his lower back, and explained patiently, “This condition… well, it’s not really an illness. Don’t let its name fool you. Mate-Seeking Disorder sounds serious, but it doesn’t actually hurt you at all. Whenever you were overwhelmed by work pressure or completely drained, you’d come to my place. We’d have sex—two to three rounds—and once you were done, Cheng Xiu would take you home. You’d sleep it off, and by the next day your mood would be so much better.”

“I even asked the doctor about it,” he continued. “The doctor explained that it’s basically a psychological need. No need to fix the behavior, and medication isn’t needed. As long as your omega partner—me—stays by your side and takes care of your sexual needs, you’ll be fine. It’s actually better for your health, no matter how long or short it is.”

His cheeks flushed with shame as he had to be honest about their sex life after saying it aloud. He dropped his head and hid his face in the steam from the hot chocolate.

Zheng Feiluan stared at him for a long time, analyzing him. Rather than relaxing, his suspicion only seemed to grow, “And why, exactly, are you my omega partner?”

“Oh—our pheromone compatibility, of course!”

Cheng Xiu finally hit a question he actually could answer. He snapped his fingers, pulled a pheromone report out of his briefcase, and said, “President Zheng, Mate-Seeking Disorder is rare. It only shows up when an alpha and an omega have extremely high pheromone compatibility. And your compatibility with He An just so happens to be exceptionally high.”

Zheng Feiluan took the report and flipped it open, scoffing without much interest, “Exceptionally high? Just how high is that?

Cheng Xiu reported to His Majesty with the utmost respect, “One hundred percent.”

“One hund—”

Zheng Feiluan’s head whipped around, his eyes suddenly sharp, cold, and full of disbelief as he pinned Cheng Xiu with a stare. When he saw Cheng Xiu’s innocent expression, which almost said, “You can glare at me to death, but it’ll still be one hundred percent,” he felt he had nowhere to direct his anger.

He then turned his gaze to He An instead. This time, there was a sharp, clear mocking in his eyes.

Zheng Feiluan clearly didn’t believe a word of it, so Cheng Xiu had to grit his teeth and try to get him to accept the truth, “The pheromone lab at First General Hospital has officially sent in this report. Last year, on July 7th—your first mate-seeking episode—He An called me for help, so I took him to get a blood test. The results showed that your pheromone compatibility is one hundred percent. People refer to this as the “perfect match.” You know how rare that is—perfectly matched alphas and omegas barely exist. Even if they do, they might not be the same age, and they might never meet. And even then, would it be possible to complete a mark? With a figure so low, it may be… Uh…”

He dove back into his briefcase, looking and digging until he found a wrinkled pamphlet. He flipped left and right, but he couldn’t find the little number anywhere.

“Two pairs,” Zheng Feiluan said, reading from his phone. “One in a million cases. That’s the equivalent of a 0.0002% chance.”

He didn’t look happy at all when he said it. He actually winced right away, as if the number tasted bad in his mouth.

But the docile young omega seated across from him gave a little nod. His lips curled up into a subtle, pleasant smile, and he whispered, “Yes, what we are… is incredibly rare.”

The Pheromone Compatibility Report (Type-I Biological Sex Pheromones) was only two pages long, and Zheng Feiluan quickly scanned it.

He was an Alpha 482 (L9), a pheromone type linked to people with great, dominating personalities. Alpha-482s weren’t exactly difficult to find in the population; what was hard to find was the concentration at Level 9, the highest possible level.

That was the definition of true rarity.

The Zheng family was so powerful that they tested the pheromones of all newborns to choose a successor. With his frighteningly natural superiority, Zheng Feiluan had already secured his position as the future head of the family by defeating his brother, who was older by five years, while he was still in baby clothes.

His eyes moved down to He An’s pheromone details—and froze.

Omega 90795 (L9) — not listed in existing databases, presumed to be a “soothing-submissive” type.

90795.

Zheng Feiluan had never seen a number that far down the registry.

The higher the serial number, the later the pheromone type was discovered—and the rarer it was. “Rare,” in most contexts, would be considered a compliment. But when it came to pheromone compatibility, “rare” was nothing short of a curse. Because the rarer the pheromone, the harder it was to ever find a suitable match.

Common pheromones have compatibility slopes like calm hills—nothing profound or destined to the point of marking each other, but the odds of finding a partner were high.

Less common pheromones created towering mountains, making them more difficult to find, but once they did, the love was intense, strong, and unforgettable.

But rare pheromones… Their compatibility slopes were actually sharp mountain ridges. If they ever found love, these people would give their life for it. Once they found their perfect match, they loved them down to the bone, were devoted to life, and never looked back.

“Bone-deep love” had a romantic ring to it, but the truth was cruel. Realistically, fate only offers them one ending:

They would never meet the right person even if they tried.

Zheng Feiluan had an alpha assistant with a pheromone number of 3910, and he never stopped complaining about how the dating market was unfair to him. Those with pheromone levels in the 3s or 4s could literally throw rocks at a wall and still attract most people. But a person whose serial number is four digits? He’d have to go on ten blind dates before he found someone who was even somewhat compatible, and even then, they usually had competing interests and weren’t eager to date.

If a pheromone with four digits had it tough, then a five-digit rarity like He An didn’t even need to think about the odds.

A five-digit omega was basically a lone, stray goose doomed to fly the rest of its life alone. The best future someone like that could hope for was getting picked up by some alpha nobody else wanted—just two people muddling through heat cycles, muddling through a half-assed mark, muddling through birthing a litter of unwanted kids, then muddling through the rest of a dull, forgettable life.

Zheng Feiluan couldn’t see how an omega who had been left behind by fate could somehow become his perfect match.

It was almost laughable.

He put the report down, folded his arms, and leaned back, observing the well-mannered omega before him, looking for any hint of what made this man “perfect.”
But—no.
Nothing.
He was just… average. Painfully, hopelessly average. Compared to any omega Zheng Feiluan had ever been with, He An couldn’t hold a candle to them in any way.

People always ran after the best thing they’d ever tasted.
How can you fall for a weed that grows by the road after you’ve smelled roses?

Zheng Feiluan sat there, perfectly calm, not a single ripple in his heartbeat as he looked at He An.

Was this really supposed to be his “perfect match”?

Please. He wasn’t some gullible virgin schoolboy waiting to be tricked.

Everyone knew that pheromones were the cause of the physical attraction between an alpha and an omega. No matter how high or low a match you are, the moment you lay eyes on someone, your body will tell you the truth.

At the Jiusheng banquet three years ago, Zheng Feiluan met a young omega who had recently joined the entertainment industry. The second their gazes met, a tingling sensation spread across his scalp, a sudden surge of electricity shot through his body, and he lost all control over his impulse to make his claim. They left the event halfway through and ended up in a hotel room, having sex with a level of passion that was almost desperate. The omega’s sweet smell filled him through every pore, pulling him into a heavenly bliss.

That evening, he fucked him like he was in heat—completely drunk and ravenous. Even now, thinking about how their bodies and breathing were in perfect sync gave him an overwhelming sense of desire.

They were together for nine months. During that time, Zheng Feiluan invested a great deal of time and money in him, turning his beloved omega from an unknown rookie into a rising star. He even won two major awards to silence the critics. But just before he was about to propose, the omega broke things off.

The reason was painfully simple: the omega had met an alpha with a higher compatibility score.

An 85% match abandoned for an 89% match. A pathetic four percent. He offered to make up the difference with money, influence—anything. But the omega ignored all his efforts.

Their relationship had started off hot and ended cold, leaving him with a recurring wet dream and the realization that all those “feelings” were nothing when it came to pheromone compatibility.

If a lover with an 85% match couldn’t stay, what did a partner with a 100% match mean?

This meant that he would be completely devoted to them, sharing their ups and downs emotionally. It also meant that he would be paranoid of anyone else touching them, as if they were his property. He would also hate seeing them go through the pain of pregnancy. And if they ever gave him a child, he would become a completely defenseless, overprotective father.

But not like this—when he can’t feel even the smallest flicker of attraction.

Printed data can be fabricated, but the body cannot lie. This “perfect match” had to be a mistake. Either the blood sample was wrong, the test malfunctioned, or this omega had a dirty plan and changed the results. It seemed like they weren’t even compatible enough to have sex, since he had almost no sexual reaction.

So what if they had sex or he got him pregnant? If Zheng Feiluan felt nothing, the omega’s whole plan had already failed—sometimes pheromones were just that simple.

Zheng Feiluan quietly looked at He An and then said to Cheng Xiu, “I want to talk to him in private. Leave for now and come back in fifteen minutes.”

“I’m sorry? Oh, of course!”

Cheng Xiu stood up with his bag, but he looked worried. He then flashed He An a series of exaggerated winks.

He An smiled a little, “I’ll be okay. Go ahead.”

They sat alone in the corner, not saying a word to one another. He An was about to say something in an effort to break up the tension when Zheng Feiluan suddenly got to his feet, marched over to him, lifted his chin, and leaned down to kiss him.

One second. Two seconds. Three seconds…

The alpha’s powerful presence was like a tsunami, with ten-meter waves bursting out and washing over him so hard that he almost lost his mind.

He had just been marked the night before, and the alpha’s scent had total control over him. It felt like a huge hand had settled over his whole body, squeezing his blood and nerves and getting rid of any thoughts he had left. He was completely powerless against his alpha—his pulse raced, his breathing became labored, and he collapsed hopelessly onto the chair.

His cheeks burned, partly from shameful memories and partly from the heat he was forced to release. He felt a sudden rise in body temperature, which numbed his senses and caused him to become lightheaded and unsteady.

When the long kiss finally ended, Zheng Feiluan took a step back.

He An was breathing in short, tearful puffs and pulling on the scarf around his neck like it was a chain.

“Feiluan… I’m so hot… the scarf… it’s too tight…”

He mumbled, almost begging.

His hand was then forcefully held and pushed against Zheng Feiluan’s wrist. The man’s pulse was calm, steady, and slow under his fingers, like a temple’s repetitive morning bell.

He An was confused and wasn’t sure what Zheng Feiluan meant.

The alpha’s expression was cold as ice.

“One hundred percent compatible, but after ten seconds of kissing you, my heart didn’t race, my breathing wasn’t affected, and nothing else reacted.” Zheng Feiluan tightly gripped his jaw, forcing him to look up, “Now tell me—how many lies have you told?”
