MHWFYYTMDF Chapter19

Call “Mom”

Things had already reached this point, and Song Li was no longer in the mood to blame Xue Sang for having a loose tongue; it would only add to his irritation.

Paper could never wrap up fire. He hadn’t intended to keep this matter hidden forever anyway, but he just hadn’t sorted out his feelings yet and hadn’t found the right time to tell his family.

Well, great. Thanks to his good brother, there was absolutely nothing left to hesitate about now.

Song Li went through the entire workday with a heavy heart, then drove home in the same gloomy state, only to be surprised to find that He Muyan was already home when he arrived.

He was a bit surprised. The sight of the tall man standing by the dining table, laying out the bowls and chopsticks, made Song Li freeze halfway through taking off his coat.

He Muyan turned back to look at him, “You’re back. Don’t just stand there, wash your hands and come eat.”

Song Li snapped out of it as he let out an “oh.” He hung his coat nearby, went to the kitchen to wash his hands, and when he returned, He Muyan had already prepared everything. He cast a glance to signal him, “Let’s eat.”

Song Li sat down opposite him. Looking at the table full of food, he picked up his chopsticks, temporarily at a loss for where to start.

He Muyan picked up a shrimp and put it in his bowl, “Try it.”

Song Li was simply flattered, swallowing his saliva as he looked at the deep-fried shrimp.

Seeing that he wasn’t eating, He Muyan asked again, “Do you need me to peel it for you?”

How could he possibly allow that! Song Li shook his head hurriedly and grabbed his bowl, “I can do it myself.”

He Muyan nodded and ladled a bowl of soup for him, “This soup is also not bad.”

Song Li took a sip. It was so fresh he almost bit his tongue, and he directly gave a thumb-up.

He Muyan smiled faintly and also lowered his head to start eating.

Looking at the elegant and noble manner He Muyan maintained even while eating, Song Li felt dazed.

His husband was seriously so handsome.

With such a good-looking husband, why on earth should he keep him hidden away and not let others see him!

Wasn’t that just a terrible waste of God’s gifts!

Song Li didn’t know which nerve had suddenly snapped, but a sudden surge of adrenaline rushed over him. Thinking back to his mom’s phone call, his brain grew hot, and with a pah, he set his bowl down on the table.

He Muyan raised his head to look at him, his eyes filled with doubt.

Song Li told himself he couldn’t back down. If he did, he was done for.

Taking a deep breath, he stared fixedly at the person opposite him, “I have something to tell you.”

He Muyan also set his bowl down, adopting a listening posture.

Song Li’s hands on the table tightened unconsciously, “Are you free tomorrow?”

He Muyan thought for a moment, “From what I recall, there shouldn’t be any urgent work, but I can ask Li Xiu in a bit.”

“That’s not important.” Song Li shook his head, “What I want to say is, I hope you can save some time for me tomorrow. I want to take you somewhere.”

He Muyan paused, “Is it to go see your parents?”

This guy was simply too sharp. Song Li nodded gently. Having finally forced the words out, he lost the nerve he’d just managed to build up, shrinking back as he looked uncertainly at the person across from him, “If… if you’re not free…”

“I can do it.”

He Muyan interrupted him, his expression solemn, “Work has been too busy lately, so this matter was an oversight on my part. I will arrange it tomorrow.”

Ah, Song Li hadn’t expected it to be this simple and that he would agree so easily. If he had known He Muyan was this easy to talk to, why on earth had he been agonizing over it?

In any case, a weight had finally lifted from his heart. Song Li let out an exhale, finding himself a bit ridiculous.

He Muyan clearly hadn’t let this matter affect his mood, putting another piece of rib into his bowl, “Let’s eat.”

When sleeping that night, Song Li couldn’t fall asleep for the longest time. The moment he thought about taking He Muyan to meet his parents tomorrow, his mind would start churning, leaving him incredibly restless and anxious.

After tossing and turning a few times, he suddenly heard He Muyan’s voice come from beside him, “You can’t sleep?”

Song Li froze, “Did I disturb you? I’m sorry, I won’t move anymore.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he felt the mattress beside him sink slightly. He Muyan seemed to have flipped onto his side, facing his direction.

“What are you thinking about?”

Song Li discovered that whenever it was late at night like this, He Muyan seemed to turn on a special switch. Not only would he talk more, but his voice also didn’t sound as quiet and cold as usual; it even carried a tiny bit of tenderness.

And he just happened to be particularly weak against this. The moment He Muyan acted gentle, his defenses would completely crumble, making him look incredibly spineless.

Song Li simply turned onto his side and looked back at him. In the darkness, the two pairs of eyes faintly reflected light, and they could only vaguely make out each other’s blurry silhouettes.

“I’m thinking about tomorrow. To be honest, I seem to be a bit nervous.”

“What are you nervous about?”

Song Li shook his head, “I don’t know. It’s my first time doing something like this, so I’m just nervous.”

Having said that, he also felt a bit embarrassed, scratching his chin with his finger, “I’m already an adult, so isn’t this a little too childish?”

He Muyan didn’t answer him right away. After a moment, he seemed to let out a very soft laugh, “No, it’s very cute.”

“Ah?”

Song Li blinked, temporarily thinking he was hallucinating.

What was going on? He Muyan praised him for being cute?

Heavens, he must have misheard.

Before he could continue to question himself, He Muyan suddenly reached out and touched his face. It truly was just a touch, not even staying for two seconds, before sliding down to clasp his shoulder, pulling him over with a slight pressure.

Song Li’s face bumped against his firm chest. His lower back and shoulders were both held tightly as a familiar scalding breath fell over his neck, and a knee was also high-handedly wedged between his two legs.

The atmosphere was practically screaming that things would escalate within minutes. In a complete panic, Song Li struggled to raise his face with both hands gripping the clothes at the other’s chest.

“I… I don’t need this kind of sleep aid today.”

He Muyan’s hand resting against his lower back paused, “We’re not doing it today.”

Only then did Song Li realize he had misunderstood. His face flushed hot in an instant, and he hid in his embrace out of embarrassment.

No, wait, wait a minute. Since they weren’t doing it, why was he still holding him, and he even holding him… so ambiguously as well…

Song Li started to panic again, his tongue not even moving smoothly, “Then… then you should just, let me go.”

Unexpectedly, after he said this, the arms holding him didn’t loosen at all; instead, they even tightened a bit more.

He Muyan’s deep voice sounded by his ear, “When I was young, someone once told me that when you are nervous or afraid, you can hug someone else. Another person’s body heat can bring you unexpected energy and a sense of security.”

Song Li hadn’t expected the usually icy-cold He Muyan to say such warm, human-like words. While his heart felt touched, a trace of disappointment also drifted past for no particular reason.

See, the man was truly just comforting him with pure kindness. So, what about a hug anyway? It wasn’t as if he would lose a piece of flesh because of it. The man’s heartbeat was even so calm it hadn’t skipped a single beat.

Song Li gave a silent, bitter smile, while pressing his face against his chest in dejection.

They were both grown men with rigid bodies, so hugging wasn’t actually all that comfortable. Yet, he didn’t know if it was just psychological, but as he felt the warmth of He Muyan’s embrace, his restless emotions slowly smoothed out quite a bit.

He Muyan’s chest was very broad and thick, capable of completely enveloping his own body, despite him also being a grown man.

Song Li really liked this feeling of his entire body and mind being completely embraced. It felt as if he were being carefully protected; you could think about absolutely nothing and just curl up in this tiny world, letting him block all the wind, rain, and harm from the outside world for you.

Did he have the right to let He Muyan become this kind of harbor for him?

Amidst his wild thoughts, he muddily felt a large hand gently stroking his hair. He Muyan spoke to him very softly by his ear, telling him to sleep, his voice sounding distant and surreal.

Song Li then slowly closed his heavy eyelids.

After a good night’s sleep, his complexion looked much better than usual when he woke up the next day.

Outside, the sun shone brightly, and birds sang among the fragrant flowers; a rare stretch of beautiful weather during this time of year.

He Muyan still got up earlier than he did today. The two of them ate a simple breakfast, and right up until they were about to set off, Song Li still felt a lack of reality.

He sat in the front passenger seat while staring ahead in a daze.

An arm suddenly reached across to grope around his waist. Startled, Song Li abruptly stiffened his body.

He Muyan’s dark eyes were only a brief few centimeters away from him, “Seatbelt.”

Song Li let out an “oh,” snapping out of it, “Right, right.”

He Muyan pulled back and started the car, “What is the exact address of your home? I’ll set the navigation.”

Song Li hurriedly gave his home address, and after a moment’s thought, still spoke up apologetically, “You originally had work scheduled for today, right? I’ve delayed your time.”

He Muyan looked straight ahead, the line of his jaw looking incredibly elegant and handsome.

“Today, you are more important.”

Song Li froze for a split second, and his heart unproductively began to race wildly again.

Turning his head away, he rested his chin on one hand and looked out the window, only to accidentally catch sight of his own incredibly unnatural expression reflected in the glass.

He cleared his throat and covered it with his hand.

Heavens, He Muyan was truly so enchanting.

The car soon arrived at the neighborhood where his parents lived. After finding a parking spot to stop the car, He Muyan got out and walked to the back, lifting quite a few items out of the trunk.

Song Li stared at the gift boxes and bags in his hands in surprise. With just one look, he could tell they were all expensive imported supplements, “When… when did you prepare all of these?”

He Muyan’s expression remained unchanged, “I had Li Xiu buy them and bring them over this morning.”

Song Li had no idea at all that Li Xiu had even come by this morning. While amazed by their efficiency in handling things, he was also somewhat moved by He Muyan’s thoroughness and consideration.

Walking up to his side, he helped him carry a few boxes, “There are too many things. Let me carry them with you.”

He Muyan didn’t refuse, but he only handed him a few smaller, lighter gift bags that were easy to carry.

The two of them went upstairs together. This was a neighborhood with a real sense of age; from the surrounding facilities they passed along the way to the old stairs without an elevator, even the lights in the hallways had one broken every few paces.

Song Li instantly felt that bringing He Muyan to a place like this was practically condescending.

He explained in embarrassment, “I’m sorry, the environment here isn’t that great.”

He Muyan walked right beside him, his leather shoes making crisp, elegant tapping sounds in the quiet corridor.

“It’s fine.”

His voice remained calm without a single trace of displeasure at all.

Song Li’s mind finally relaxed, and he stopped in front of the familiar door. “We’re here.”

With that, he reached out and rang the doorbell.

While waiting for the door to open, he was actually still a bit nervous. The hand holding the gift bags shifted left and right, accidentally brushing against the arm of the person beside him.

He Muyan looked down at him and unexpectedly let out a very faint smile.

Song Li froze. Perhaps infected by this rare smile of his, he suddenly didn’t feel as nervous as he had just now.

After another moment, the door in front of them was opened. Standing inside was Mother Song. The moment she opened it, she saw her son, as well as the handsome man standing behind him.

He was far too handsome, so much so that Mother Song even froze for two seconds, “You’re here.”

Song Li nodded. Just as he was about to speak and call out to her, he caught sight out of the corner of his eye that the person beside him had stepped forward a step ahead of him.

“Mom, there was a traffic jam on the road, so we arrived a bit late. We’ve kept you waiting.”

Song Li: ……?

Although that was the case… wasn’t this call of “Mom” a bit too smooth and natural?
