Chapter 32: Ending
“It’s been two months. Can we do it now? Can we, can we?”
Zhou Zizheng, relying on his status as a patient, was completely reckless. His big hands groped under Yu Haozhou’s clothes, lighting a fire in him. It was just the two of them in the ward.
In fact, they could do it, but… Yu Haozhou had a sense of shame. They were in a hospital! Did they have to be so desperate? If a doctor came in for rounds, the quality of their future happiness would be drastically reduced.
“No…”
Yu Haozhou didn’t know how he managed to restrain himself. He forcefully pulled Zhou Zizheng’s hand out of his clothes and then went to the restroom himself to take care of things. He came out half an hour later, his hands still wet. Zhou Zizheng was sitting on the bed, looking at him with resentment.
“What about me? What should I do?” Zhou Zizheng suddenly flung the blanket off, revealing the sight underneath.
“…….”
Yu Haozhou swallowed hard. He shook the water off his hands and pointed to the restroom: “Go take care of it yourself.”
Zhou Zizheng threw off the covers, got out of bed, and put on his shoes: “Why didn’t you let me in just now? You even locked the door.”
Yu Haozhou said nothing. The next second, he was pulled into the restroom: “Hey, Zhou Zizheng!”
When Han Jin brought Cheng Qianyu and their daughter to visit, the ward was empty.
“Hmm? Where are they?”
Cheng Qianyu sat on the sofa, holding her daughter: “Maybe they went out for a walk in the sun. We can wait here for a while.”
Han Jin said, “Oh,” and then sat next to her. The two of them played with their daughter while waiting.
In the bathroom, Yu Haozhou’s face was flushed, and he was biting his lip. His reflection in the mirror was alluringly seductive. He could hardly believe that was the expression he was making. He turned his head away, panting: “Zhou… Zhou Zizheng, stop… stop doing that. Someone might have arrived.”
“Ignore it. If they sit for a while and no one comes out, they’ll leave.” Zhou Zizheng was also breathing heavily. “Wife, I love you so much, I want to f*ck you to death.”
Having finally tasted meat, Zhou Zizheng clung to the wasp waist in his palm, refusing to let him go no matter what.
Yu Haozhou had believed his claim that they would leave after sitting for a while, but they had been sitting for half an hour, and the noise outside was getting louder.
“Something’s not right. Why are they out for a walk for so long?”
Han Jin was worried he was taking up their time, so he simply gave Yu Haozhou a call. The phone rang, and the sound came from the bathroom.
The two inside were startled by the sudden ring and were still trying to recover.
Han Jin followed the sound to the door and pressed the handle, but it didn’t open. He knocked: “Haozi, are you in there? Why aren’t you answering?”
Yu Haozhou wanted to bite Zhou Zizheng to death. That damn second knock almost ruined his waist.
“Haozi, are you in there? Where’s Brother Zhou? I don’t see him.”
Yu Haozhou pretended to be dead, not wanting to answer.
Zhou Zizheng, annoyed, said in a hoarse voice, “Get lost, we’re doing serious business.”
“…..”
Han Jin loudly cursed, “You’re so shameless! You’re still in the hospital!”
Yu Haozhou hung his head, closing his eyes, wishing he could escape this world.
Zhou Zizheng talked back to Han Jin without reserve: “How long do you plan to listen? Do you want my wife to moan a couple of times for you?”
“……”
Han Jin, mindful of his daughter, didn’t kick the door down: “Damn you, Zhou Zizheng! My wife is also outside the door. Have some decency!”
A sharp sound, like a slap, seemed to come from inside, and then it became completely quiet.
Being a woman with a thinner skin, Cheng Qianyu couldn’t listen anymore after Zhou Zizheng’s first vulgar comment.
Holding her daughter, she stood at the door, constantly signaling Han Jin to leave, but he refused and insisted on cursing twice.
Afterward, she became so embarrassed that she closed the ward door and sat on a chair in the corridor for a while.
Her cheeks were flushed. She truly hadn’t expected the usually cold and composed Zhou Zizheng to be so… wild in private.
After sitting for a while, Han Jin came out, still grumbling that Zhou Zizheng was shameless and loved to bully Haozi.
Cheng Qianyu gave him a side-eye: “Do you think you’re any better?”
Under the clothes, the skin of her body was covered with hickeys that he had sucked.
Han Jin chuckled, pulling both of his darlings into his arms: “No matter how crazy I get, I only mess around at home. This is a hospital.”
Cheng Qianyu didn’t want to discuss the topic anymore and pushed him: “Let’s go. My appointment time is coming up.”
“Alright.” Han Jin easily picked up his daughter in one arm, and with his free hand, he interlaced his fingers with his lover’s: “Let’s go see if our darling daughter has been growing well recently.”
…
“Zhouzhou, Zhouzhou…”
Zhou Zizheng sat on the bed like a child who had made a mistake, not allowed to get down. Yu Haozhou deliberately sat on the sofa far away from him, eating his meal alone and ignoring him.
The events of the afternoon had made him too embarrassed to face anyone.
When Kang Lanxiang came to deliver the meal, she felt the atmosphere between the two was off.
As she set down the patient’s meal for Zhou Zizheng, she asked Yu Haozhou, “Why did you order takeout for yourself?”
Yu Haozhou didn’t look up: “I’m hungry.”
The act was physically demanding, and Yu Haozhou should have been lying in bed now, but he was afraid of losing face again. He was in pain, and everything felt wrong.
Kang Lanxiang didn’t think much of it. She ate with Zhou Zizheng and found it amusing that he was distracted and kept looking at her son. She said softly, “Did you two fight?”
Zhou Zizheng immediately nodded, as if finding a lifeline: “Mom, please, help me coax him.”
Kang Lanxiang clipped a piece of meat for him and reassured him: “You don’t need to coax him. My son is like that; once his anger is gone, he’ll come and cling to you.”
“Really… Really?” He wondered if Yu Haozhou would walk away without calming down.
But with Kang Lanxiang present, he was embarrassed to use his usual shameless sweet talk to coax him.
During this time, Yu Haozhou kept leaving the ward without a word. Zhou Zizheng wondered what he was doing and called him, but he didn’t answer. Zhou Zizheng was like an ant on a hot pan, unable to sit or lie down comfortably.
Finally, he managed to endure until Yu Haozhou came back, but before Zhou Zizheng could fully relax, Kang Lanxiang said she had to leave.
Yu Haozhou stood up to see her off. Zhou Zizheng held back from asking, hoping Yu Haozhou wouldn’t send himself away too.
Normally, it only took 10 minutes, but today, half an hour passed, and Yu Haozhou still hadn’t returned.
If Yu Haozhou hadn’t sternly ordered him not to get out of bed, Zhou Zizheng would have already rushed home. He sent messages on his phone but didn’t receive any reply.
[Are you coming back?]
[Zhouzhou, I was wrong; I was truly wrong. Please come back; I’m scared alone.]
[Wifey, wifey, wifey, I miss you…]
[The hospital is haunted; why isn’t my wife back yet?]
[I saw a white shadow on the window, it’s really haunted, wifey, please come and check.]
[Are you home already?]
[Are you really not coming tonight?]
[Okay, sleep well…]
Yu Haozhou, who was sitting on a chair just outside in the corridor: “…….”
Actually, he wasn’t really angry; he just felt extremely ashamed about being caught doing that.
He needed time alone to calmly digest it. When he was with Zhou Zizheng, he kept remembering that embarrassing scene.
Furthermore, it was hard to deny the fact that in that situation, when Zhou Zizheng called him ‘wife,’ he felt more excitement—a kind of satisfaction and pleasure that couldn’t be described in words.
Yu Haozhou just didn’t want to admit that he was already ‘degenerated’ to that extent, especially since he used to hate doing that position the most.
The bottom lines he had firmly held before all became jokes in front of Zhou Zizheng. He was slowly falling, gradually losing himself. Yu Haozhou couldn’t find his old self.
He warned himself to be clear-headed and not to indulge Zhou Zizheng’s every unreasonable action, but upon seeing the messages he sent, he completely caved.
How could he make himself sound so wronged?
Zhou Zizheng was the one who did something wrong, yet Yu Haozhou felt sorry for him, wondering if the long period of cold-shouldering was making him miserable.
“Sigh… I should just accept my fate.”
Now his mind was completely filled with Zhou Zizheng. He couldn’t leave, nor did he want to.
…
But the temper he needed to throw, he still had to throw. Yu Haozhou maintained a straight face and pushed open the ward door.
Zhou Zizheng practically sprang off the bed instantly, disbelieving: “Wife!”
He gave a cold, faint “Mhm.” Then he went to the bathroom to shower and simply rubbed his head dry when he came out. He slept in the same bed as Zhou Zizheng, just like before. Zhou Zizheng didn’t dare breathe too heavily, afraid Yu Haozhou would take his anger out on him if he was slightly displeased.
Yu Haozhou had his back to him. The ward was quiet. After a short while, Zhou Zizheng’s tentative hand wrapped around him. Seeing no resistance, he hugged him a little tighter: “Zhouzhou, I won’t do it next time.”
Yu Haozhou still gave a very cold “Mhm.”
Zhou Zizheng then kissed his ear: “Zhouzhou, talk to me, okay? I was stifling all day.”
Yu Haozhou’s ear was sensitive, and he flinched: “Don’t kiss my ear.”
“…….”
“Then let’s talk about something else,” Zhou Zizheng said deliberately. “If I really hadn’t made it that day, would you look for someone new?”
Yu Haozhou opened his eyes and glared at him across the space: “Why wouldn’t I? I’m still young and have money. What kind of partner couldn’t I find?”
Zhou Zizheng felt a sharp pain in his heart but laughed anyway: “It’s right for you to think that way. I was afraid you’d be a little fool and stay faithful to me for life.”
“Stop being narcissistic.” Yu Haozhou was expressionless and frank: “I won’t forget quickly, but two or three years should be enough.”
As soon as he finished speaking, his ear was lightly bitten. He cried out, “Zhou Zizheng, I told you not to touch my ear!”
Zhou Zizheng’s head was buzzing, and he couldn’t listen to anything: “You heartless thing, why won’t you even humor me a little?”
“If I were truly dead, I couldn’t stop you from finding someone new anyway.”
Zhou Zizheng was just being a jerk.
He clearly knew asking that kind of question was meaningless, yet he still asked. After asking and hearing an answer he didn’t like, he still got moody with him: “I survived a deadly accident. What’s wrong with saying a few nice things to me?”
Yu Haozhou was very calm. He turned his head to look at him: “Are you trying to pick a fight with me now?”
Zhou Zizheng: “…….”
He felt guilty, remembering that he had angered Yu Haozhou that afternoon, and said meekly, “I didn’t.”
“Then go to sleep.”
Zhou Zizheng unhappily “Mhm-ed.” In the darkness, he kept his eyes open and couldn’t fall asleep. His eyes ached with grievance, and his heart felt a dull pain. This matter had nothing to do with love or not; it was just sentimentality. Even if he didn’t coax him, it wouldn’t make Zhou Zizheng doubt Yu Haozhou’s love.
He just wanted to hear it with his own ears. He wanted Yu Haozhou not to be stingy about expressing his love for him. In the second before he lost consciousness during the car accident, Zhou Zizheng’s thought was that he hadn’t fully enjoyed calling Yu Haozhou ‘wife’ and hadn’t told him ‘I love you’ many times.
“Zhou Zizheng, you asked for it yourself. If you ask, don’t get moody about the answer.”
Zhou Zizheng: “…….”
He stubbornly denied it: “I didn’t.”
Yu Haozhou turned his body around: “I can feel you staring at me with your eyes wide open.”
“Oh.” He closed his eyes: “I was just thinking. I’m sleeping now.”
When he felt a layer of softness covering his lips, Zhou Zizheng was so surprised he didn’t dare open his eyes.
Yu Haozhou kissed him lightly: “When you were in the operating room, I thought that if you were really gone, I might not be able to hold on.”
Zhou Zizheng pursed his lips. He suddenly regretted what he said and also turned sideways to hug him: “Then I should find someone else after all.”
Yu Haozhou’s hand traced circles on his chest, which had almost fully recovered: “I’m being honest. I never thought I would be so sentimental—needing comfort when hurt, needing comfort when angry, and needing comfort when wronged. Zhou Zizheng, did you cast some kind of spell on me? Otherwise… how could I love you so much?”
It was worth it. Everything was worth it.
Surviving the deadly accident was worth it.
Zhou Zizheng held him tightly: “With you saying that, I have no regrets even if I die now.”
Yu Haozhou kicked him under the covers: “Can you say something more pleasant?”
The force was like a tickle. Zhou Zizheng’s chest shook with laughter: “Zhouzhou, call me that.”
“What?”
“Call me ‘husband.'” While sober.
“…That’s so cheesy.”
Zhou Zizheng rubbed his neck: “Hurry up, wife, let me indulge.”
Yu Haozhou couldn’t stand it, curled his toes, and called out, “Husband…”
Fireworks exploded in Zhou Zizheng’s heart. He deliberately breathed on his ear, where he was most ticklish: “Wife, I love you.”
