The first thing Chu Yi did upon returning home was to find Little Lucky Star to play with.
The villa had a dedicated playroom that had practically become Chu Yi and Little Lucky Star’s personal playground. Filled with toys and games for children, it wasn’t just Little Lucky Star who loved it—it was quickly becoming Chu Yi’s favorite place too.
The father and son were having a blast playing together.
When Little Lucky Star was particularly happy, he would look at Chu Yi and call him “Papa.”
Little Lucky Star could now clearly say “Papa” and understood its meaning. He would only call out “Papa” repeatedly when he saw Shen Jin and Chu Yi.
Each time he said it, Chu Yi’s heart would melt.
Chu Yi had expected Shen Jin to show little reaction, but he noticed Shen Jin’s lips curving into a smile that never faded. Shen Jin adored Chu Yi and their child; they were the very essence of his life.
After playing for nearly two hours, Chu Yi got up to fetch a water cup nearby. It was time for Little Lucky Star to drink.
As Chu Yi returned with the water cup, he failed to notice an apple-sized ball on the floor. He stepped on it, and the world spun violently before he crashed to his knees.
Though the floor was covered in tatami mats, Chu Yi’s knees hit hard. A searing pain shot from his knees straight to his heart, his vision went black, and tears welled up instantly.
*So painful!*
Chu Yi collapsed onto the floor.
Little Lucky Star witnessed his dad’s fall and rushed over, tugging at Chu Yi’s arm and anxiously calling out, “Papa, Papa, Papa!”
Still unable to form complete sentences, Little Lucky Star could only repeat “Papa” in distress, tears threatening to spill.
Chu Yi, tears streaming down his face, smiled weakly and soothed Little Lucky Star, “Don’t be scared, don’t be scared. Papa’s okay.”
His voice trembled as he spoke.
Just as Little Lucky Star was growing increasingly anxious, Shen Jin entered the room.
“What’s wrong?”
Seeing Big Daddy, Little Lucky Star ran over and grabbed Shen Jin’s hand, urgently calling out “Papa” and urging him to check on Little Dad, who looked to be in great pain.
Chu Yi, tears streaming down his face, tried to soothe Little Lucky Star. “Daddy’s okay,” he said. “He just tripped, like when you fall. It doesn’t hurt.”
Unfortunately, Chu Yi’s tears undermined his words.
Shen Jin immediately understood what had happened.
He rolled up Chu Yi’s pant legs and saw that both knees were red and swollen. He could only imagine how much it must hurt. Chu Yi, who was so afraid of pain, was still trying to reassure Little Lucky Star that it didn’t hurt.
With Big Daddy present, Little Lucky Star calmed down a bit.
Mimicking how Little Dad used to blow on his boo-boos, he blew on Chu Yi’s knees.
But seeing Little Dad cry, Little Lucky Star started crying too.
Shen Jin asked Uncle Wen to take Little Lucky Star to play, but the boy refused to leave Little Dad’s side.
Uncle Wen coaxed him, “Little Dad’s okay. Big Daddy will take care of him. You don’t need to worry. Grandpa Wen will get you some water.”
Chu Yi, having wiped away his tears, smiled at Little Lucky Star. “Go play with Grandpa Wen, okay? I’ll join you later.”
Only when Little Lucky Star saw his Little Dad stop crying did he nod in agreement.
After Uncle Wen carried Little Lucky Star away, Chu Yi’s tears began to fall again, instantly transforming him into a child. “Hubby, it hurts so much! Waaah, it hurts like crazy!” He had been too embarrassed to cry in front of Little Lucky Star.
Shen Jin carried Chu Yi upstairs and gently placed him on the bed. Chu Yi’s knee was even redder than before.
Fortunately, the house was well-stocked. Shen Jin quickly found a tube of antiseptic ointment.
Squeezing a dollop of milky-white cream onto his finger, Shen Jin looked at Chu Yi. “This might sting a bit. Try to bear with it.”
Chu Yi nodded, his eyes redder than his knee.
But when Shen Jin’s hand touched his knee, Chu Yi still whimpered in pain. “Ow, ow, ow! Shen Jin, be gentler!”
Yet Shen Jin was already being as gentle as possible.
The pain brought out Chu Yi’s childish temper. “I don’t want any more!”
“Hold still, hold still,” Shen Jin soothed. “I’ll be extra gentle. It’ll be over soon.”
The words sounded familiar.
Chu Yi didn’t want the ointment anymore, but his calf was firmly held in Shen Jin’s grip.
Shen Jin calmly and steadily applied the ointment to Chu Yi’s knee.
After the ointment was applied, a faint coolness spread across Chu Yi’s knee. This refreshing sensation gradually seeped into his skin, slowly extinguishing the burning pain. Chu Yi felt the pain subsiding.
Chu Yi stopped crying. Shen Jin took a warm towel and gently wiped his eyes and face. With the pain gone, Chu Yi’s sweet smile returned.
Shen Jin had said this countless times: “Be more careful next time.”
Chu Yi always promised earnestly: “Mm, I will.”
But Shen Jin knew his words had little effect. Chu Yi was always a bit absentminded, prone to tripping or bumping into things if he wasn’t careful.
After treating the knee abrasion, Shen Jin checked Chu Yi for other injuries. As expected, there were minor scrapes on his palms. Shen Jin’s lips tightened with concern.
Suddenly, Chu Yi remembered something and sprang to his feet. The pain in his knee immediately forced him back onto the bed with a sharp hiss.
Shen Jin’s brows furrowed. “What are you doing?”
He had just promised to be careful, and now he had already forgotten.
“Shen Jin, Shen Jin!” Chu Yi exclaimed excitedly. “Did Little Lucky Star just walk over here by himself? He can walk now!”
Shen Jin suddenly remembered that Little Lucky Star had indeed walked over on his own.
Without realizing it, Little Lucky Star had learned to walk!
“I want to go down and see him,” Chu Yi said.
Chu Yi was overjoyed that their Little Lucky Star could walk and couldn’t wait to rush to his side.
Shen Jin carried him downstairs.
Sure enough, they saw Little Lucky Star toddling around. Butler Wen stood nearby, equally thrilled. The little one had suddenly learned to walk!
After Shen Jin carried Chu Yi upstairs, Little Lucky Star played with Uncle Wen for a while before suddenly standing up and taking his first steps.
Butler Wen excitedly grabbed his phone to record Little Lucky Star’s wobbly walk, eager to show Shen Jin and Chu Yi later. Their son was walking! He hadn’t expected the couple to come down so quickly.
Newly walking, Little Lucky Star was ecstatic, clearly enjoying the sensation of moving around.
He toddled over to Grandpa Wen, then to the nanny, filling the living room with his babbling laughter.
Though his steps were a little wobbly, each one was steady and sure.
Seeing Shen Jin carry Chu Yi downstairs, Little Lucky Star toddled over to his two dads.
Reaching Shen Jin, Little Lucky Star reached out and grabbed Chu Yi’s hand, wanting his Little Dad to walk with him.
Even with medicine applied to his knee, Chu Yi still felt a twinge of pain with each step.
Shen Jin took Little Lucky Star’s hand. “How about Daddy walks with you?”
And so, in the vast living room, the 1.88-meter-tall Shen Jin bent down, holding Little Lucky Star’s hand as he walked.
With his dad by his side, Little Lucky Star felt brave enough to go anywhere. When he wanted to climb the stairs, he would first look at his dad, his eyes telling him he was ready to go up.
Guided by his Big Daddy’s hand, Little Lucky Star steadily stepped onto the first stair, then held his dad’s hand as he came back down. It was a thrilling and novel sensation.
For the next half hour, Little Lucky Star went up and down the stairs repeatedly.
Chu Yi watched them from the side, noticing the extraordinary tenderness in Shen Jin’s eyes whenever he held Little Lucky Star’s hand.
After Chu Yi returned to school, Shen Jin also resumed his work at the company. He became busy again, but no matter how hectic his days were, he always made time to play with Little Lucky Star when he got home.
Even with so many people at home dedicated to caring for Little Lucky Star, Shen Jin still insisted on personally feeding him, bathing him, and tucking him into bed, just like any ordinary father.
Gu Jin and the others visited Little Lucky Star frequently, bringing him many of his toys and clothes. They were overjoyed to see him, finding it even more fun than going out to play. They all clamored to spend time with him, and the uncles were becoming increasingly devoted to their role.
From the moment he was born, Little Lucky Star had been showered with affection, growing up day by day in a cocoon of love.
Chu Yi watched them, grinning foolishly.
Finally, Little Lucky Star grew tired of walking and stopped, reaching out for Big Daddy to hold him. He nestled against Shen Jin’s chest as Shen Jin wiped the sweat from his brow.
Chu Yi handed Little Lucky Star a small snack, which the boy took and began munching on, sprawled in Big Daddy’s arms.
Crumbs and greasy stains fell onto Shen Jin’s expensive clothes. With a swipe of his little hand, several oily marks appeared on the fabric. Yet Shen Jin’s gaze remained fixed solely on Little Lucky Star, a sight that had become commonplace in the Shen Family.
The ointment worked wonders. By evening, the redness on Chu Yi’s knee had almost completely faded, and the pain had subsided.
Even so, Shen Jin still wouldn’t let Chu Yi walk, carrying him everywhere.
Little Lucky Star giggled at the sight of Big Daddy carrying Little Dad, reaching out his arms for Little Dad to hold him too. To the adults, an afternoon and a night felt like mere hours, but in Little Lucky Star’s heart, it felt like Little Dad hadn’t held him in ages.
Chu Yi thought, *Since my knee doesn’t hurt much anymore, it’s fine to carry Little Lucky Star upstairs.*
Once in Little Dad’s arms, Little Lucky Star wrapped his arms tightly around Chu Yi’s neck, refusing to let go. He loved the sweet, milky scent of Little Dad’s skin.
Chu Yi glanced at Shen Jin, understanding his concern. “I’m fine. My knee stopped hurting ages ago. Just let me carry Little Lucky Star upstairs.”
Shen Jin stepped forward and said, “Hold Little Lucky Star tight.”
The next moment, Chu Yi understood why Shen Jin had said that.
Shen Jin bent down and effortlessly lifted them both into his arms. “I’ll carry you both upstairs.”
As they climbed the stairs, Shen Jin’s pace remained steady and unwavering. In his arms, there was nothing to worry about.
Chu Yi gazed at him with admiration. “Hubby, you’re amazing!”
Little Lucky Star, nestled in Little Dad’s arms, chimed in, “Papa, ya ya (amazing)!”
