ADWMCES Chapter7

Imperial Physician Li pondered for a long time and said, “Answer My Lord, this minister has been practicing medicine for decades and has never heard of such a method. It should not be allowed. However, there may be some folk remedies that this humble minister doesn’t know about. This humble minister will go back and look up the classics and report to My Lord.”

Ji Yujin nodded to show that he understood, and then waved his hand for him to leave.

After everyone had left, he looked at the person lying on the bed. If it were anyone else, he would not have doubted that this person was a man, because that face was too perfect. However, he had seen one that was almost the same, and that person was a man, and his demeanor was also very noble.

Could he have really guessed wrong? Maybe this is just how twin boys and girls are born. After all, isn’t it said that twins can communicate telepathically?

In fact, the simplest way was to take off that person’s clothes and take a look. He let out a “tsk”, troublesome. He remembered that when the emperor granted the marriage, he asked someone to take a letter back to reject the marriage. He didn’t know what went wrong in the middle, and she was still carried over.

Forget it, let’s talk about this later.

Ji Yujin glanced at Chu Fengqing’s outerwear. “She” had fallen down today, and her coat seemed dirty. Wouldn’t it be uncomfortable to sleep in outerwear? It seemed that “she” had worn it like this as well yesterday.

He glanced at the stain on the skirt and stretched out his hand with some unbearable effort. Just as his hand touched the collar, the person’s eyes slowly opened and he looked at him in confusion.

Ji Yujin: “……”

Chu Fengqing: “……”

Chu Fengqing frowned. “Governor, I am not feeling well…”

That look seemed to be saying, I knew you were a beast, but I didn’t know you were such a beast.

Ji Yujin: “I know! I just saw that the skirt was dirty.”

Chu Fengqing glanced at him hesitantly. Ji Yujin was simply at a loss for words, and his face darkened.

At this time, Lao Mo happened to walk in. Seeing the two sitting in the bedroom, he immediately retreated. “Sorry, Master, I saw that the door was open, so I didn’t knock. I didn’t see anything.”

Chu Fengqing glanced at him, as if to say, Look.

Ji Yujin said, “Come back.” Steward Mo paused when he saw Ji Yujin’s sullen face. He didn’t know who had offended him, and he said respectfully, “Master, do you want to eat now?”

Ji Yujin uttered a muffled “En.”

Chu Fengqing just realized that he had arrived at the bedroom. There was no need to guess that it was Ji Yujin’s doing. Looking at Ji Yujin’s gloomy face, the corner of his mouth rose slightly.

Soon, the table was filled with food. Ji Yujin drank the tea in the cup and said, “Little sick seedling, are you going to eat there or come down to eat?”

Chu Fengqing was stunned for a while before he realized that the “little sick seedling” was referring to him. The veins on his forehead bulged slightly before he said, “I’ll eat at the table.”

The food on the table included both meat and vegetables. Although there were many dishes, each portion was not very large, and the two of them could just finish it. The chef of the Ji Mansion was obviously an excellent cook. Every dish was fragrant, and even he, who usually did not care about his appetite, was tempted by it.

Ji Yujin pushed a bowl of porridge in front of him and said, “Don’t look at them. Those are not yours. This is yours.”

Chu Fengqing: “……”

Seeing his expression change, Ji Yujin said even more harshly, “You little sick seedling, and you even want to eat delicious food and spicy drinks?”

Chu Fengqing tightened his grip on the spoon, and a few veins bulged on the back of his thin hand. For some reason, Ji Yujin suddenly felt a lot better.

He hadn’t eaten much since yesterday. He only ate some fruits from the tribute and then had two biscuits in the palace. When the food was in front of him, he felt hungry. After drinking the warm chicken porridge, he felt warm all over his limbs.

Ji Yujin ate very quickly. Chu Fengqing had only finished half a bowl of porridge when the food on the table was almost cleared away. Chu Fengqing also discovered that he liked to eat meat. However, in the end, he ate all the leftovers on the table, regardless of whether he liked them or not.

After he finished eating, he checked Chu Fengqing. He frowned and was about to speak when Lao Mo reported, “Master, Lord Li Yu is here.”

“What is he doing here?” Ji Yujin said without even thinking, “Help me beat him out.”

Lao Mo was not surprised. “Yes.”

Chu Fengqing paused for a moment. Li Yu was the head of the Jinyiwei. He and Ji Yujin should be considered to be in a superior-subordinate relationship.

“Ji Yujin, you are so disloyal. I just came back and came to your place, but you want to drive me out!” Li Yu’s voice was very loud, and his voice could be heard clearly across half the yard.

Lao Mo couldn’t stop him, and soon he appeared in front of the two of them. Li Yu was not very tall, and his baby face was particularly likable. It was hard to imagine that the head of the Jinyiwei looked so… kind.

The first time Li Yu saw Chu Fengqing, he exclaimed in amazement. He didn’t care about settling accounts with Ji Yujin at all. He straightened his Feiyu uniform and saluted Chu Fengqing: “Little brother Li Yu greets Sister-in-law.”

“Cough.” Chu Fengqing coughed lightly, Li Yu’s call of “sister-in-law” almost made him choke on his porridge.

Then he patted Ji Yujin’s shoulder and said, “Ji Yujin, when did you get such a beautiful wife? No one told me that you got married? And why didn’t you invite me to have a drink?”

Ji Yujin glanced at the hand on his shoulder, and Li Yu immediately became intimidated. He took his hand back awkwardly and straightened the clothes on his shoulders. “Haha, I’ve been out for too long and have forgotten some of the rules. Lord Governor, please spare my lowly life.”

Ji Yujin had changed out of his bullfighting uniform and put on a casual robe. This robe was not red, but dark blue. The heavy color could not suppress his arrogance in the slightest. His arrogance and cruelty seemed to come from his bones.

Even his appearance was so arrogant that people dared not look directly at him. He was born with a good appearance, a pair of fox eyes tilted upwards, and a faint cinnabar mole at the end of his eyes. But because of his temperament, people often overlooked his appearance.

Ji Yujin couldn’t stand Li Yu’s stupidity, so he pulled Li Yu out by his collar.

Li Yu, who was being dragged, did not forget to say goodbye to Chu Fengqing: “Sister-in-law, I’m leaving first. I’ll come visit you the next day.”

After going out, the two came to the study.

Li Yu wrinkled his chubby face, smoothed out his wrinkled Feiyu uniform, and muttered, “At least save me some face in front of my sister-in-law ah.”

Ji Yujin sat on the chair with no trace of joking on his face. “How’s the investigation going?”

Li Yu: “Prince Yongkang secretly raised a group of soldiers and horses and trained them every day. As for rebellion, there is no solid evidence to prove it.”

Ji Yujin: “He keeps his soldiers for fun.”

Li Yu: “Ah? Is this person crazy?”

Ji Yujin looked at him in silence. Li Yu blinked and realized that this guy was laughing at him. He said angrily, “But his troops are so few. It’s too few to rebel. Any army will be enough to destroy them.”

Ji Yujin tapped the table with his finger. “Just keep an eye on that.”

“You don’t even need to tell me. I’ve already sent people to keep an eye on him and report three times a day.” Li Yu also found a chair and sat down. “Eh? Where’s Zhao Li?”

“That matter in the south has not been clarified yet.”

Li Yu was stunned. “That hasn’t been clarified yet? How long has it been already?”

Ji Yujin pressed his temple and said, “It is because it has been so long that it is more difficult to investigate.”

“The Xichang is like a brick. We can move it wherever it is needed. Now even the cases in the Dali Court are in our hands.” Li Yu sighed, looked at his expression, and asked, “Did you not sleep last night again?”

Ji Yujin said nothing.

Li Yu smacked his lips and didn’t continue asking. After a while, he asked, “But what’s going on between you and Third Young Lady Chu?”

“The Chu family is like a rat in the street right now, everyone’s too afraid to get involved. You’re the boldest of all; you could just marry her and become part of the family.”

“Also, why did His Majesty approve your marriage? You say you’re a eunuch, yet Third Young Lady Chu didn’t cry or resist and simply married you. There’s no scheme involved, right?” Li Yu asked questions one after another: “Maybe she wants to use you to overturn the Chu family’s case? No, this is a bit difficult. Maybe she wants to rescue Chu Zhengyin?”

Ji Yujin frowned, while Li Yu’s eyes widened. “Don’t tell me you don’t realize she married you for some other reason.”

Hearing his words, Ji Yujin’s mouth curled up. “So what if I know? If she can really frame me, then that’s her ability.”

In fact, she likes me, but for the sake of the woman’s reputation, he doesn’t want to make it public. Ai, it is also a headache to have a woman who loves him so much.

Li Yu was stunned for a moment and said with difficulty, “Don’t tell me that you fell into the beauty trap. You are not a hero. How can you, a eunuch, not be able to pass the beauty trap? It’s only been one night, and you have fallen for someone else?”

Ji Yujin crossed his long legs and put them on the table as he said arrogantly, “If I ever fall in love with her, I will call you father.”

Li Yu scratched the back of his head, “Don’t be so confident. Anyway, I think she is a great beauty, why would she marry you? Because you are a eunuch? You have to control yourself, don’t fall into the land of gentleness, and can’t get out. You are sometimes too arrogant, and you will suffer sooner or later.”

Ji Yujin rolled his eyelids lazily and looked at Li Yu. “I think you’ve lived too long. There are still many positions at the Xichang. Why don’t you transfer over here?”

Li Yu blinked, quickly covered his crotch with his hands, and said with a flattering smile, “This, this is impossible, the Jinyiwei won’t do without me, I’m leaving first!”

After Ji Yujin left, Chu Fengqing finished his porridge, and Lao Mo handed him the boiled medicine.

Chu Fengqing looked at the bowl of black medicine and did not drink it immediately. Instead, he asked, “Steward Mo, could you please show me the prescription written by the Imperial Physician?”

“Of course. Please wait a moment, Madam.” He said as he walked out, and soon he came back with a prescription.

Chu Fengqing had been weak since childhood and had a natural interest in medicine, so he was specially apprenticed to a master to learn this aspect. He was indeed gifted, and now he was considered to be better than his master. He was a famous physician in Jiangnan, but he used another name, so no one associated him with that famous physician.

Chu Fengqing looked at the names of the medicines on the prescription, then picked up the brush and added two medicines before returning it to Lao Mo. “Please follow this prescription to get the medicine next time.”

Imperial Physician Li prescribed medicine to dispel wind and cold, but his body could not take it, so he added two more herbs to neutralize it and also added one to clear coughs and moisten the lungs to prevent asthma from being brought on by coughing.

“You’re welcome, Madam.” Lao Mo was a man of few words. He always prepared everything silently. Now that he saw Chu Fengqing knew medicine, he didn’t seem very curious nor did he ask a single question.

After putting away the prescription, he said, “Madam, the person who will measure your body is waiting outside. Would you like to see him now?”

Tailoring? Lao Mo seemed to have told him before lunch that someone from the Garment Bureau would be coming today.

“En, let them in.”

After the clothes were measured, Chu Fengqing asked, “How long will it take to finish?”

The person from the Garment Bureau said, “Madam, if we speed up the work, it will be finished in just three days.”

Three days was actually very fast, but it was a bit miserable for someone like Chu Fengqing, who didn’t have any clothes. He couldn’t wear the same wedding dress for three or four days.

The clothes he had brought before were all men’s clothes, so he didn’t bring any of them, and he didn’t ask Chang Wang to prepare some for him. He did have a few sets of dudou tho…

It was also his own fault. There were so many things going on at that time, and it was so chaotic that he completely forgot about it.

With his height, it was difficult to find women’s clothing of his size, and he was at a loss for a moment.

……

At night, Ji Yujin went out to do some work and came back at 10. When he came back, he saw that the bedroom light was on. He was stunned for a moment, then he remembered that he seemed to have married a wife…

He opened the door and saw Chu Fengqing leaning on a small couch with a book in his hands, reading with great interest. His cold eyes in the daytime softened a little under the light, and a faint smile hung on his face, which really reflected the saying that a beauty becomes more beautiful the more you look at them under the light.

The usually deserted room feels completely different with one more person in it.

Chu Fengqing looked up at the door when he heard the noise, and the smile on his lips instantly disappeared. “You’re back?”

Seeing how quickly his expression changed, Ji Yujin also frowned. Then, looking at the red dress he was wearing, he said, “Little sick seedling, don’t you find it dirty? Why don’t you change your clothes?”

It’s a typical example of looking for trouble.

After hearing what he said, Chu Fengqing’s face instantly turned red, and his cold face seemed a little embarrassed.

Ji Yujin raised his eyebrows and said, “I almost forgot that you have no clothes. How has the Chu family fallen into such a state that you don’t even have a piece of clothing?”

As he spoke, a gleam flashed in his eyes, and he pointed to his closet. “How about I lend you some clothes?”

The author has something to say:

Li Yu: “Hey, where’s that obedient son of mine?”

Ji Yujin: “How many servants are the Xichang still short of?”

Li Yu: “Big Brother, I was wrong.”

To be fair “he” (was it 他?), according to my Taiwanese friends, this character originally was gender neutral. It could mean he or she. The only reason it became masculine in the last century was because of exposure to Western literature, and literal translations became awkward. This all only happened in the 20th century. TBH, I kinda prefer the gender-neutral OG meaning. My Taiwanese friends still use the OG meaning.

Oh, that makes sense now then. My translation is just based on my current Chinese level lol, I only remembered my teacher saying 他 for ‘him’ and 她 for ‘her.’ Thanks for the enlightenment, I learned a new thing. I’ll fix it after I finish editing my other works xD

I like the Li and Ji brotherhood already!
