MHWFYYTMDF Chapter14

Sleep Together

Song Li entered the living room. It was an utter mess with lots of clothes scattered all around the sofa.

Among them was a trendy sweatshirt he had just bought last month. Good heavens, he had clenched his teeth to buy that piece of clothing, and it had cost him over a thousand yuan.

Passing by the kitchen, he casually grabbed a rolling pin from inside.

Damn it. In broad daylight, in a society governed by the law, someone actually had the audacity to break into a house and steal. See if he wouldn’t give this bastard a good beating.

He stood in place and listened carefully for a moment, faintly making out some very weak movements coming from the nearby guest room.

Song Li turned around and raised the rolling pin in his hand; by the looks of it, the intruder was in this room.

As he walked closer and closer, seeing that he was right at the doorway, Song Li’s heart rate accelerated, and he planned to use his foot to kick the door open.

Before he could even lift his leg, the door in front of him was suddenly pushed open from the inside. Startled, he subconsciously raised the rolling pin and swung it down with force.

“You bastard!”

“Ow!”

Along with the dull thud of the rolling pin hitting a solid object, there was an immediate “miserable shriek.” Song Li saw the person in front of him clutching his arm with his face contorted in pain as he fell straight to the floor.

He caught a massive fright. Getting a clear look at the face of the person on the floor, he cried out in shock, “Xue Sang?!”

“Why is it you?!”

Xue Sang rolled around on the floor, showing his face and cursing at him with reddened eyes, “Why can’t it be me?! Damn it! Song Li, are you murdering your own friend?!”

Song Li quickly threw away the rolling pin in his hand and crouched down to support him, “I thought a thief had broken into the house, who knew it would be you? How is it? I didn’t hit any vital spots, did I?”

“My arm is practically broken by you, what do you think?!”

“Stop messing around.” Song Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, “Quick, let me take a look.”

Helping him over to the living room sofa, he eased him down, then pulled back his clothes to give him a quick once-over.

“It’s a bit red. Try moving it. If you can move it, then the bone shouldn’t be hurt.”

Xue Sang pushed his hand away, saying impatiently, “Alright, move aside, stop aggravating me.”

Seeing that it didn’t seem to be anything serious, Song Li felt relieved. He sat down nearby and looked at him with a smile, “Speak up, what on earth are you doing cooping yourself up in my place? You’ve turned this place into a bandits’ den, making me genuinely think a thief had broken in.”

Xue Sang rubbed his arm while curling his legs up on the sofa. Right now, he was only wearing a long T-shirt with a terribly wide neckline, exposing a large patch of his snow-white chest with those two small points faintly visible. His legs were long, slender, and pale, left completely bare, with what was likely nothing more than a pair of briefs underneath.

Song Li pulled a blanket and tossed it onto him, “The weather isn’t even hot anymore, would it kill you to put on some more clothes?”

Xue Sang brushed the blanket aside and gave a “tck”, “I like it this way. It’s not like I’m exposing myself for you to look at. What’s the matter, suddenly feeling a surge of desire?”

“It is a surge of desire… a desire to murder.”

Song Li sighed, his tone carrying a distinct sense of exasperation.

He had known Xue Sang since they were kids. They were actually around the same age, but this guy was slender with a small frame and naturally had a baby face. Whenever he wasn’t acting up, he looked incredibly soft and well-behaved, making him appear much younger than his actual age.

He was a completely different type compared to the wise and mature He Muyan.

“You still haven’t answered me yet.” Song Li stood up to clean up the mess around them, “Why are you staying at my place? I don’t recall giving you a spare key.”

“You still have the nerve to bring that up.” Xue Sang tore open a bag of potato chips, accidentally pulling his injured arm again, which made him hiss in pain and shake his head.

“I haven’t even questioned you yet. We were drinking perfectly fine that night, so why did you just leave the moment you said you were going to? When I opened my eyes in the morning, I was the only person left in the house. I had just picked up a fight with my boyfriend, you know? Do you have any idea how empty, lonely, and cold my youthful heart felt at that exact moment?”

Hearing him put it that way, Song Li finally recalled the events of a few days ago and offered an apologetic smile, “That night was a special circumstance. Afterwards, I got busy and completely forgot about it.”

Xue Sang lifted his eyelids to glance at him, “What special circumstance? Song Li, are you hiding something from me?”

Looking at his small face, Song Li hesitated for a brief moment, “I didn’t intend to keep this from you anyway. Don’t be startled when I tell you.”

“Stop being so sissy, just spit it out already.”

Song Li set the folded clothes to the side, sat down, and looked at him, “Xiao Sang, I’m married.”

Xue Sang let out an “oh,” but in the very next second, he began coughing violently from choking on a potato chip. Song Li considerately passed him a glass of water.

Xue Sang raised his hand to wave him away, his face flushed entirely red from coughing, “What? What do you mean married? With whom? Which blind date partner?”

Song Li’s mother had been trying every possible way to arrange blind dates for him recently, and Xue Sang had even seen a few of those candidates.

Song Li waved his hands, “No, it’s none of those people. Speaking of which, you should have some impression of him. It’s the person who came over to my place while the two of us were drinking a few nights ago.”

Xue Sang racked his brain to recall, his eyes widening, “That incredibly handsome guy with massively long legs?!”

Song Li nodded.

Xue Sang gave a “fuck,” raising a hand to swat at him, “Not bad, you kid! Safe water runs deep, huh? How on earth did you reel in a top-tier handsome guy like that?”

“What do you mean reel in? Don’t make it sound so unrefined.”

Song Li warded off his hand and smiled slightly, “Actually, when we get to the bottom of it, it’s all thanks to you. Didn’t you drag me to that bar for my birthday a while back? It happened that night.”

Xue Sang gasped, “Just that one night?”

“Just one night.”

“A one-night stand?”

“En.”

Xue Sang gasped again, “I really couldn’t tell. Turns out you’re the wildest one of us all.”

Song Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, “I didn’t expect it myself either. It turns out that when a person acts on impulse, nothing they do is surprising.”

Xue Sang glanced at him, leaning in to ask “It’s been so long since then, your impulse should have worn off by now. Do you regret it?”

Regret? Song Li raised his head to think about it. Imagining He Muyan’s icy face, he smiled slightly, “I don’t think I regret it. It feels pretty good.”

Xue Sang rubbed his arm, “Flexing. Keep flexing all you want.”

Song Li tilted his head to look at him, “What am I flexing?”

Xue Sang snorted, speaking in a sarcastic, mocking tone, “This count as the iron tree finally blossoming, the leftover man getting hitched. It wasn’t easy for you.”

Song Li nudged him, “We’re around the same age, you’re not doing much better than me.”

“How can I be the same as a thousand-year virgin like you?” Xue Sang flipped his hair and threw a flirtatious wink at him, “I have a hundred flowers blooming out there. If I want to pick one, it’s a matter of minutes.”

“Then go ahead and pick one, Your Highness.” Song Li couldn’t stand his vanity. Noticing how he kept brushing his bangs aside from time to time, Song Li reached out and fixed them for him too.

“You should get your hair trimmed, shouldn’t you? It’s covering your eyes.”

“I think it’s pretty good.” Xue Sang turned around, cupping his face in his hands and blinking at him, “I think I look quite nice with long hair, it makes me look young. Do you think I look eighteen right now?”

“I think you’re just a demon who refuses to grow old.”

“You’re just consumed by envy, jealousy, and hate.” Xue Sang pouted while continuing to fiddle with his bangs, “I think it’s fine. I plan to try growing my hair long.”

Song Li didn’t know what kind of phase he was going through this time and didn’t bother to manage him before getting up to continue cleaning.

Xue Sang sprawled out on the sofa to watch him, “Seriously, Ge, do your mom and dad know about this?”

Xue Sang occasionally called him “Ge” like this, entirely depending on his mood.

Song Li’s hands paused in the middle of folding clothes, and he answered in a low voice, “I haven’t told them yet. My mom hasn’t found the time to nag me about blind dates lately either. Next time she remembers she has a son; it won’t be too late to tell her then.”

Xue Sang clapped his hands with loud slaps, “You really are a carefree soul.”

Song Li shrugged. What else was he supposed to do? He Muyan hadn’t shown any intention of meeting each other’s parents, and he felt too embarrassed to bring it up out of the blue.

When it came to anything related to He Muyan, he really was quite a coward.

Song Li tidied up for a while and packed two suitcases. Right before leaving, he looked at Xue Sang, who was still curled up on the sofa playing video games, walked over, and questioned him.

“How much longer do you plan to stay at my place? Hanging around like this isn’t a permanent solution. Do you want me to give your boyfriend a call and have him come pick you up?”

“Don’t you dare.” Xue Sang had a lollipop clamped between his teeth. While frantically mashing the buttons on his controller, he answered indistinctly, “If you dare make that call, I’ll dare tear your house apart as well, do you believe me?”

Song Li was helpless. Looking at the guy’s back, he noticed he was too thin; a few bones were clearly visible beneath his T-shirt. Had he even been eating properly these past few days?

After struggling internally back and forth, Song Li ultimately set the suitcases down and turned to walk toward the kitchen.

Xue Sang glanced at him from the corner of his eye, “What are you doing? Aren’t you in a rush to head back home to see your husband?”

Song Li opened the fridge to inspect it, then rolled up his sleeves and began working, “My husband won’t run away, but if I don’t feed a certain someone soon, I’m afraid they’re going to waste away into nothing.”

Xue Sang’s hands paused on the controller. He glanced back and curved his lips into a smile.

By the time Song Li finished cooking, it was already close to half past twelve. He switched off the range hood and raised his hand to wipe away his sweat.

Tracking the fragrance of the food, Xue Sang slinked into the kitchen like a cat. He pinched a piece of beef and tossed it into his mouth, the savory freshness making him stick out his tongue.

“Ge, it’s been so long since I last ate your cooking. It’s delicious.”

Song Li swatted at him, “Wash your hands first.”

He carried the dishes out to the dining table. Xue Sang came out after washing his hands and couldn’t wait to start digging in.

Song Li untied the apron, “Go ahead and eat, I need to head back.”

Chomping down on a chicken drumstick, Xue Sang raised his head to look at him upon hearing this, “Ge, you’re not going to stay and keep me company? The food’s already ready, and with such a full table, do you really have the heart to leave me here eating all by myself?”

Song Li felt a little torn, “But…”

“But what? Just sit down. Exactly how long has it been since the two of us sat down and had a proper meal together?”

Seeing him like this, Song Li didn’t have the heart to refuse for the moment. After thinking it over, he pulled out his phone.

He needed to send He Muyan a message.

He had clearly promised to head back for lunch, but it looked like that wasn’t going to happen now.

Less than a minute after sending the WeChat message, Song Li received He Muyan’s reply. It contained only three simple words: Got it. As usual.

It was cold and detached, entirely devoid of emotion.

Song Li stared at those three words for a little while, suddenly finding it a bit ridiculous.

Ai, he really took himself too seriously. It was just a single meal; He Muyan had probably just mentioned it casually this morning. Yet here he was, dwelling on it as if it were some monumental blessings.

Utterly spineless.

He didn’t leave immediately after eating either, staying to play video games with Xue Sang for a good long while. By the time he snapped out of it, it was already nearly half past five in the afternoon.

Song Li rubbed his neck, “No more playing, my eyes are going blurry.”

Xue Sang threw his controller aside too, sprawling on the sofa and yawning, “So sleepy. Ge, let’s go take a nap.”

Song Li was actually sleepy as well. If it were before, he could very well have rolled into bed with this guy and slept the day away, but it wouldn’t do now.

He was a man with a household of his own.

He could no longer carelessly mess around with someone else for an entire day like this.

Even though the one back home probably didn’t care where he went, who he was with, or what he was doing.

Thinking up to this point, Song Li’s heart suddenly tightened. Why did it feel like he was living so humbly in this marriage?

Based on what?! He was clearly the one who had been proposed to!

With these thoughts, Song Li’s rebellious streak surged to the max. He was going to give the one at home the cold shoulder too. He wanted to let He Muyan know that in this equal marriage, he wasn’t the only one who could endlessly generate warmth without conditions.

The more he thought about it, the more defiant he became. Spurred on by a sudden burst of reckless courage, Song Li slapped his thigh, “Xiao Sang, I’m sleeping over with you tonight!”
