As Zhou Shuyi wandered aimlessly across campus, only one face kept appearing in his mind. The words that person had spoken played in his head like a looping playlist, endlessly repeating by his ear.

―――“Zhou Shuyi…”

The voice calling his name sounded faint, as though it came from far away. And the face that gradually drew closer looked as flawless as a filtered idol photo. If pink cherry blossoms had fluttered down around him, it would have looked like a picture-perfect snapshot on Instagram—one he’d definitely give a ‘like’.

“Zhou Shuyi, I finally found you.”

“Another hallucination,” Zhou Shuyi muttered with a self-deprecating smile at the talking ‘photo’ of a handsome man. Apparently, his brain’s ability to hallucinate had reached a new level. Now, the image even came with movement and voice—like an upgraded animated sticker.

“What do you mean, hallucination?”

“Whoa, it can talk now too.” Never expecting his hallucination to speak back, Zhou Shuyi instinctively reached out and pinched the handsome man’s cheek. But the ‘Gao Shide’ before him winced and cried out in pain.

“Ouch! Stop it, that hurts!”

The reaction was far too real—enough to snap Zhou Shuyi back to his senses. Only then did he realize that the man standing in front of him was the real Gao Shide.

“Damn it… you’re actually real?”

Startled, Zhou Shuyi stumbled backward and lost his balance, twisting his ankle in the process. A sharp pain shot through him.

“Ugh, perfect. I twisted my ankle.”

“Let’s go to the infirmary,” Gao Shide said.

“Mind your own business,” Zhou Shuyi snapped, shoving his arm away in irritation. But Gao Shide frowned, his tone firm and unyielding.

“You can either lean on my back or let me carry you—pick one.”

“…Just give me your hand.” Between humiliation and ‘complete’ humiliation, Zhou Shuyi chose the lesser evil. He let Gao Shide take his right arm and drape it over his shoulder, and together they hobbled toward the infirmary where his injury could be treated.

“Ugh… not you again, the heartless school doctor.”

Zhou Shuyi sat in a chair, glaring unhappily at the man in the white coat.

Bang!

Pei Shouyi slammed the medicine cabinet shut. The metallic sound echoed through the room as he turned, smirking, and pointed at Zhou Shuyi’s right foot.

“If you don’t want me to treat you, then do it yourself. It’s not my foot that hurts.”

He said it with a shrug, heading toward the door.

Standing beside Zhou Shuyi, Gao Shide sighed quietly. He couldn’t figure out why these two were always at each other’s throats. Chasing after Pei Shouyi, he asked in a gentle tone, “Where’s the bandage? I’ll do the treatment.”

Pei Shouyi gave him a sideways glance, then flicked him lightly on the forehead.

“Why do you think I’m leaving? I’m going to the storage room to get some — we’re out.”

“I’ll go.”

Relieved, Gao Shide nodded and left the infirmary to fetch the bandages. He didn’t notice how Zhou Shuyi’s eyes followed his every movement until the door closed behind him.

Watching Zhou Shuyi’s unconscious gaze trail after Gao Shide, Pei Shouyi pulled a chair around, sat in it backwards, and leaned over the backrest, smiling smugly.

“That’s a relief.”

“What is?”

“You’re not as good as me. You can’t attract Shide like I can.”

His low voice carried an ambiguous air. Zhou Shuyi’s beautiful eyes narrowed warily, his expression tightening with suspicion.

“What the hell’s that supposed to mean?”

Pei Shouyi brushed his finger lightly along Zhou Shuyi’s nose.

“There are men who fall for men, you know? Never heard of that, kid?” he teased, drawing out the last word.

Zhou Shuyi stared at him, stunned.

“You—you mean you-… you’re in love with Gao Shide?!”

Gao Shide couldn’t possibly like this obnoxious school doctor… right?

So this old man likes Gao Shide?!

“Exactly. I’ll make him fall for me—just watch!”

Pei Shouyi withdrew his finger from Zhou Shuyi’s nose, pressed it to his lips in a ‘shh’ gesture. With his other hand, he teasingly brushed Zhou Shuyi’s hair back.

“So, shhh. It’s a secret. I plan to make my move next month. Wish me luck.”

“Luck?! What kind of nonsense are you talking about?!”

Zhou Shuyi angrily slapped his hand away and blurted out something he’d been holding in for days.

“Gao Shide told me I’m the one he likes!“

He didn’t realize Gao Shide had returned from the storage room — and was standing right behind him. He’d heard every word of that conversation. Especially that last, most important line.

Pei Shouyi tilted his chin and glanced at Gao Shide over Zhou Shuyi’s shoulder.

“Looks like your little secret’s out.”

“…”

Following Pei Shouyi’s gaze, Zhou Shuyi turned — and there stood Gao Shide, holding the bandages.

Pei Shouyi stood from his chair with a faint smirk. Reaching out toward Gao Shide’s hair, his hand was suddenly blocked as Zhou Shuyi, who despite his sprained ankle, lunged between them.

He swatted Pei Shouyi’s hand away, shielding Gao Shide behind him, and glared at the man in the white coat.

“Don’t you dare touch him.”

Pei Shouyi’s grin widened. He withdrew his hand, then looked at Gao Shide with a suddenly serious expression.

“You’d better make it clear. Don’t live with regrets.”

“You’re not alone anymore — because I’m here.”

When their relatives gathered during New Year, all the other kids were scared of him and stayed away. But that idiot — that one boy — always came into his room with his favorite picture book, no matter how coldly he was ignored. He would sit in the corner, quietly reading, just to keep him company.

So this time, it was Pei Shouyi’s turn to return the favor. He’d play the meddlesome matchmaker — make sure his cousin could finally be with the person he’d secretly loved for years — and find happiness.

As he passed by, Pei Shouyi lightly patted Gao Shide on the shoulder, then shut the door behind him to leave the two of them alone.
