Both sides of the tree-lined path were planted with azaleas that would bloom in spring. The flower language of the azalea is ‘I’ll be yours forever’.
“Let go! Gao Shide, I said let go!”
As they walked down the paved avenue, Zhou Shuyi yanked hard, finally shaking free from Gao Shide’s firm grip on his arm. Gao Shide stopped in his tracks and snapped back in a sharp tone.
“You’re coming with me, aren’t you? Do you even realize the look on your face? You want Yuxin to notice you like her?”
Zhou Shuyi, in a black T-shirt, rubbed his sore arm and muttered sulkily,
“I don’t care…”
In response, Gao Shide opened his phone and played a video, turning the screen toward him.
“What if I send this video to Jiang Yuxin and Fang Zhengwen?”
It was a video taken by the pool — of Zhou Shuyi sitting alone, crying, after seeing Jiang Yuxin confess her feelings to Fang Zhengwen.
“You bastard!”
Zhou Shuyi lunged to snatch the phone, but Gao Shide pulled it back, gripping it tightly.
Clenching his fists, Zhou Shuyi glared at him, his voice rising with anger.
“What the hell do you want from me? Are you trying to threaten me?”
At that, Gao Shide frowned, but before his true feelings could show, he composed his expression and replied coolly,
“Yeah. Actually, I need someone to run errands for me. Just do what I say — and I’ll keep this video, and your little crush on Jiang Yuxin, a secret.”
“I refuse!”
“Too bad. I guess negotiations have failed.”
When his offer was rejected, Gao Shide held his phone up in front of Zhou Shuyi’s face. Just as he was about to hit the send button, a desperate shout stopped him.
“Wait!”
Zhou Shuyi clenched his jaw, barely suppressing the urge to punch him.
“How long?”
“What?”
“How long do I have to be your errand boy?”
―――Damn it, if he says ‘forever,’ I’ll lose it.
“Until graduation.”
“You…”
Zhou Shuyi glared at the person he hated most, biting back the crude words that almost left his mouth.
When you’re up against someone stronger, you have no choice but to yield. So he forced himself to stay calm and look for a loophole.
“No exceptions?”
“What do you mean?”
“Even prisoners get a chance at parole, right? If I do my job well as your lackey, can I shorten my sentence, Your Highness?”
Gao Shide narrowed his eyes, studying his long-time rival with faint amusement. After pretending to think for a few seconds, he nodded.
“Fine. If you can beat me even once, you get parole.”
He had never actually planned to send the video to anyone. The empty threat, the teasing — all of it came from not wanting to see Zhou Shuyi continue to suffer like this. Whether Shuyi won or not didn’t really matter.
“If I beat you… at what, exactly?”
Zhou Shuyi looked surprised — he hadn’t expected Gao Shide to agree so easily.
“Anything. You choose.”
“Alright! Deal!”
Zhou Shuyi rubbed his hands together in excitement. Dozens of ways to win flashed through his mind. For his pride — and to make sure that video never saw the light of day — he was determined to win this time, no matter what.
“I’ll send you my class schedule and address. Pick me up at eight tomorrow morning. If you’re even one second late…”
He waved the phone threateningly again. The one on the losing side could only sigh in defeat.
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll be there at exactly eight.”
Zhou Shuyi slung his backpack over his shoulder, clearly irritated, and turned to leave.
“I’ll be waiting…”
Watching the annoyed expression on his face, Gao Shide couldn’t help the small smile tugging at his lips. He stood there quietly — his gaze soft, yet complicated.

Standing in front of the house, Gao Shide glanced at his watch. It was one minute to eight.
Just as he was about to message the person who was supposed to arrive at exactly eight o’clock, a black car approached.
The car stopped in front of him, and the right rear window rolled down—revealing Zhou Shuyi’s face.
“Get in.”
“We’ll take the subway.”
“We’re going by car.”
“You sure about that?”
Gao Shide flashed his phone at him threateningly. Zhou Shuyi sighed in defeat, climbed out of the car, and stood watching as it drove away.
“There. Happy now? Thanks to you, I’m going to be late for my first class.”
“Really? Your first class starts at two, doesn’t it?”
Gao Shide smiled, looking at Zhou Shuyi standing beside him.
“I saw your timetable.”
“Tch—seriously? You even know my timetable? You’re such a schemer.”
“Let’s go. My first class is in the third period.”
Zhou Shuyi glared at him, irritation clear in his voice.
“Third period? Then why the hell did you set the meeting at eight?”
“For breakfast.”
“So it’s not enough to go to class together, now we have to eat together too?!”
“Come on. We’ll be late.”
“Damn it!”
It was infuriating, but since Gao Shide had leverage over him, Zhou Shuyi had no choice but to follow—and ended up eating breakfast with him.
In the Information Engineering classroom, the fourth-year students—nearing graduation—listened intently as the professor lectured.
“Today’s topic is the application of information technology. By analyzing detailed data—such as customer preferences, purchase times, and product attributes—you can logically determine whether a consumer is married or single, identify them from big data, and recommend items related to their interests…”
Suddenly, a head rested against Gao Shide’s left shoulder. Ignoring the glances from nearby students, Zhou Shuyi had fallen asleep, using Gao Shide’s shoulder as a perfectly firm pillow.
“Wake him up. The professor will notice,” whispered Shi Zheyu, who sat across the aisle to their right, frowning.
“Leave him be. Let him sleep.”
Gao Shide couldn’t move his arm, but he smiled faintly and shifted slightly to the left, making sure Zhou Shuyi could rest more comfortably.
“That guy’s from the Business Department, right? What’s he even doing here? And why is he sitting next to you?”
Since Gao Shide had transferred into the Information Engineering Department in his second year, Shi Zheyu had been drawn to his exceptional talent. What began as admiration had slowly turned into affection. He’d been waiting for the right moment to confess—
―until Zhou Shuyi appeared out of nowhere.
Not only did Zhou Shuyi stick to Gao Shide every day, but now he was even dozing off on his shoulder in the middle of class.
“Focus on the lecture,” Gao Shide said quietly.
He didn’t look up from his textbook and gave no further explanation.
“…,” Shi Zheyu grimaced, realizing he wouldn’t get an answer, and reluctantly turned back to his notes.
Gao Shide continued taking notes in the margin of his page. But every few seconds, his eyes drifted toward the person sleeping peacefully on his shoulder.
