Pei Qiqi felt flustered. Why was Youyou suddenly going abroad?
He held the cod sausage, still a bit warm from the little guy’s pocket. Pei Xu stared blankly at Youyou, his mouth pouting. “What about me?”
What was he supposed to do without Youyou? Su Youli thought about it for a long time, then simply pulled Pei Qiqi out of bed. The two little ones ran upstairs to the Mi brothers’ room. Youyou took a deep breath and knocked. Mi Huan was already awake. He opened the door and, seeing them, led them inside. Mi Le was still sleeping like a little pig, sprawled out and snoring softly.
Youyou blinked and said to Mi Huan, “Brother Huan Huan, I want to say goodbye to Brother Le Le.”
Without a word, Mi Huan pulled Mi Le out of his sleep. Seeing his eyes still closed, he carried him to the bathroom and used a wet towel to wipe his face. The two little ones following behind were in awe of Mi Le’s sleeping ability. He didn’t even wake up from all that! Brother Le Le was amazing. After a few brushes of his teeth, Mi Le finally opened his eyelids, which felt glued shut.
“Youyou, Qiqi, why are you here?”
Su Youli urged him to brush his teeth quickly, saying he had something to tell him.
Mi Le had never seen him so serious before. He brushed a few times and said, “What is it? Tell me.”
The little guy told him he was going abroad to see his dads. Brother Qiqi would be home alone and bored, so he asked if Mi Le could visit him on weekends. Pei Qiqi turned his face away and glanced at Mi Le. Honestly, if it weren’t for Youyou, he wouldn’t want to go out with anyone else, not even his new friend Mi Le.
Mi Le agreed without hesitation. He patted Pei Qiqi’s shoulder and said, “Don’t worry! I’ll come play with you every weekend. Where do you live? Do you know Beiguan Kindergarten? You can come to my kindergarten to play too. Don’t be scared. I’ve got your back!”
Pei Qiqi had a very cool expression. He didn’t say anything, but he really wasn’t a fan of kids who talked a lot. But since Youyou had said so, he’d reluctantly play with Mi Le.
The two little ones walked the little guy to the door. Mi Le’s eyes were red with reluctance. “Youyou, you have to come back soon! I’ll miss you.”
Pei Qiqi clenched his teeth, his little face tight, his chest heaving. “I’ll miss you too.”
Su Youli raised his hand and waved, smiling at his two friends.
“We can call each other!”
The little guy’s retreating figure was full of excitement. He looked happy. Mi Le and Pei Qiqi swallowed their tears. It seemed the only ones sad were them. At 8:30 in the morning, little Su Youli arrived at Haicheng Airport by car, accompanied by the cool sea breeze, half an hour later. Tang Dou had already bought the children’s supplies needed for the trip and was waiting at the airport. The little guy was thrilled to know Brother Xiao Tang was coming too. He immediately hugged Tang Dou’s neck and gave him a big kiss on the cheek.
Before boarding, Tang Dou put the grey long-eared rabbit from his bag into Youyou’s Stitch backpack. The plush backpack wasn’t very big. The long-eared rabbit’s ears stuck out, bobbing with the little guy’s steps. Before departure, Tang Dou did a final check: wet wipes, snacks, spare clothes, children’s noise-canceling headphones, chewable tablets, and a comfortable pair of Stitch slippers.
Tang Dou even packed a can of formula Youyou liked, in case he didn’t like the airplane food or there wasn’t anything suitable for him right away after landing. The formula could be a backup. The international airport was crowded with people. Su Youli was now a somewhat well-known little one. Shen Minyan came prepared, putting on the children’s mask Shen Yan had given him. He even added a cool pair of black sunglasses and the same straw hat, with a few curls peeking out from under the brim.
Every time he flew, the little guy hated the narrow walkway. Shen Minyan simply carried him and said softly, “Haicheng doesn’t have cotton candy. When we come back, Dad will buy you some, okay?”
The little guy nodded. His father carried him to his seat. As soon as he was by the window, the familiar feeling came back.
“Dad, clouds that look like cotton candy.”
Shen Minyan fastened his seatbelt and nodded. “Yes. Once the plane takes off, we’ll see all kinds of cotton candy again.”
As the plane took off, the little guy held his noise-canceling headphones tightly and watched the clouds float by outside the window. The change in air pressure made his ears a little uncomfortable, but he barely noticed. Once they got off the plane, he’d see Little Dad and Kun Kun. As long as he could see them, he wouldn’t be afraid of anything. Little Dad and Kun Kun had said he was the bravest, most amazing baby.
After breakfast, the little guy started to feel sleepy. Su Youli was the type to fall asleep easily in cars and planes. Shen Minyan adjusted his seat so he could sleep more comfortably, took out his small blanket, and gently covered him. The plane continued its flight across the vast sky. The hum of the engines was like a monotonous lullaby. Over the long flight, the little guy woke up a few times. Tang Dou carried him to the bathroom. As he’d expected, Youyou didn’t like the airplane food. After a small bowl of steamed egg, he shook his head and refused to eat more.
Shen Minyan didn’t force him, but he started blaming himself again. Youyou had just been sick, and now he was on such a long flight. He must be uncomfortable. He felt his decision had been a bit hasty. But the little one beside him didn’t seem uncomfortable at all. He took the bottle Tang Dou handed him and downed it all.
He was full of energy, his eyes bright, his little feet kicking excitedly, his face full of anticipation. Shen Minyan snapped out of it. Well, even if it was hard, as long as he could see Su Siwen and Qin Kun, the little guy would get through it. After what felt like an eternity, the scenery outside the window had become a vast night sky. The plane was about to land. The fuselage tilted slightly and began to descend.
The little guy leaned toward the window. The earth below was like a giant black velvet cloth, studded with countless brilliant jewels. City lights sparkled like scattered stars. The landing gear lowered, and the plane shuddered slightly. As the altitude dropped, the little guy felt a slight pressure in his ears. He knew the plane had landed. Soon, he would see his dads.
