Minato didn’t know the reason he had woken up.
“…?”
The first things he recognized were the darkness and silence around him. Then, he noticed the aching pain in his shoulders and wrists. As he unconsciously moved, he realized he was lying face down with his arms raised unnaturally, half of his face pressed into the soft fabric.
His breathing was unusually ragged. The pain was not just in his shoulders and wrists, but all over his body. He felt so heavy that he might sink at any moment.
The fabric touching his skin was the sheet, and the blanket on his back was light and soft, like a summer quilt. Realizing both were directly on his bare skin, he understood he was naked and was lying on a bed.
A faint scent reached his nose from the sheet – not his own, but someone else’s he knew well.
Whose was it again?
Unable to fully recall the hazy memories, Minato managed to prop himself up. In the darkness, he saw the desk against the wall and the tall bookshelf next to it. The desk was always neatly organized, and the bookshelf held magazines about track and field and car-related books.
“Ogiwara-kun’s…?”
As his voice trailed off, faint footsteps came from the hallway.
Minato’s whole body instinctively tensed up. The creeping fear overwhelmed him in an instant. Without understanding why, he decided to try and escape. He managed to make it to the edge of the bed despite the pain all over, but his legs and hips gave out, and he ended up crouching on the floor.
The footsteps in the hallway quickened. After a knock, the door opened, and the room was flooded with light. Shielding his dazzled eyes with his arm, Minato heard a familiar hoarse voice.
“…Hosokawa-sensei?”
It was Ogiwara’s older brother, Masayuki. He had just returned home in his suit with his tie loosened slightly.
In that moment, Minato felt relieved, realizing it was not Ogiwara. But mixed with that relief was an obvious disappointment he couldn’t quite understand.
“What happened to you…that?”
Drawn by Masayuki’s bewildered murmur and piercing gaze, Minato looked down at himself. Seeing it, he let out a strained voice from his throat.
Minato’s wrists were bound together by a belt. There were red bruises and bite marks all over his skin, with dried blood and disturbing stains.
He remembered then that he had been violated by Ogiwara. It had been a forceful, merciless, and relentless act.
In the stagnant air, Masayuki moved first. Rushing over, he asked with concern, “Are you alright?”
Before Minato could think, his body had fled, crawling back to the bed. Seeing this, a look of regret briefly crossed Masayuki’s face. He took off his suit jacket and draped it over Minato’s shoulders to cover his upper body.
“I’m sorry, but your wrists. Let’s start by removing that.”
Nodding silently, Minato tentatively held out his arms. The belt, wrapped multiple times, was so tight it had numbed his fingertips, and he couldn’t remove it himself.
With an overly cautious and gentle touch, Masayuki carefully undid the belt. During the few minutes it took, he repeatedly held his breath, biting back the words he seemed to want to say.
“…Where is Koushi?”
Placing the removed belt on the floor, Masayuki spoke in a suppressed, growling voice.
As Minato flexed his numb fingers, trying to regain sensation, he shook his head silently.
It was as if Ogiwara’s absence was someone else’s problem. Along with the pain in his chest, a deep anger welled up from the pit of his stomach. Why wasn’t Ogiwara here? After doing that to him, where had he gone, leaving Minato behind?
Yet, part of him was relieved Ogiwara wasn’t here. He wouldn’t know what to say if he faced him. Minato couldn’t read Ogiwara’s intentions at all. The Ogiwara Koushi from a few hours ago was completely different from the one he thought he knew.
“Can you dress yourself? Do you need any help?”
“I’m fine. I can do it myself.”
Gathering Minato’s scattered clothes, Masayuki handed them to him.
“I’ll step out. When you’re ready, knock on the door from the inside.”
Wanting to wipe himself down, Minato couldn’t bring himself to say so. He used the handkerchief he had to lightly clean the stains on his skin. His sluggish limbs made it take twice as long as usual to put on his clothes.
Fastening the shirt buttons, Minato realized Masayuki had seen this. There was no point in making excuses. It was clear what had happened here.
Even though it was mid-September, the temperature was still close to summer. Yet, a chill ran down Minato’s spine. Noticing the pain and fatigue in even the slightest movement, he went to knock on the door as instructed.
Masayuki appeared with a pained expression, as if resolving something.
“Let’s go to the hospital. I’ll have the car ready immediately.”
“The hospital…?”
“We’ll get a medical examination, and then go to the police. —What Koushi did is a crime. You have the right to press charges.”
Minato’s breath caught at the unexpected words.
“What are you talking about!? If we do that, Ogiwara-kun’s future—”
“It’s Koushi’s own doing. There’s no reason for you to suffer in silence.”
“But he’s still a high school student!”
“Even so, a crime is a crime. I understand your feelings, but it would be wrong to indulge him here.”
Masayuki’s face was pale as he spoke firmly. The pained aura mixed with his expressionless facade conveyed his seriousness.
“Don’t worry about the costs. If needed, I’ll cover the expenses on your side.”
“—…I was the one who tempted Ogiwara-kun.”
Hearing the words suddenly come out of his own mouth, Minato latched onto them.
―――Do you want to hurt my knee again?
A few hours ago. That was the first time he had seen Ogiwara truly angry. Hearing the resentment in his words about the injury to his right knee, Minato wondered if it had been there all along.
He was angry at what Ogiwara had done. But if that outburst was Ogiwara’s true feelings—if the act had been driven by that emotion…
The only thing Minato could do was one thing: not ruin his life any further. Absolutely not twist it.
“Even before that train accident, I liked Ogiwara-kun. That’s why I clung to him, taking advantage of the connection that the accident created. I was happy that I had a reason to be involved with him, but it wasn’t enough, so I provoked him.”
“…In that situation, doesn’t it seem odd that your hands were tied, sensei?”
“I threatened Ogiwara-kun and made him do it. That’s the kind of thing I like.”
“Sensei, that’s—”
