Yan Jiyun completed a solo mission and reaped quite a few rewards.

First, Now he know why the name of the current instance—[Innocence]— truly fits the entire setting of the instance.

Second, he learned about Teacher Qu’s family situation, which would be of great help for their future tasks.

Third, he found out who Teacher Qu was.

Not only had he gained a lot, but Yan Jiyun had also received an item from Class Monitor No. 6.

He touched his neck. The prop wasn’t around his neck, it had gone directly into his pet item inventory.

He still didn’t know what it did, but this was the first time he had ever received a prop from an NPC in the game. It was quite rare.

But which personality had given it to him? And why had they deliberately given it to him instead of Qi Feng?

After returning from their journey through the nightmare, the instance showed that four hours had passed. Lan Mo, Gu Wenzhu, and Qiu Xi had all gotten up and were gathered around Qi Feng and Yan Jiyun.

Qi Feng pushed away Lan Mo’s hand as he reached over to pinch his cheek. “What are you doing?”

Lan Mo was startled by both him and the black cat suddenly opening their eyes. “Why did you two wake up so suddenly? Wait, why couldn’t either you or your cat be woken up?”

Gu Wenzhu was more clear-headed than Lan Mo. “You entered a mission?”

Qi Feng nodded and told them everything about entering the nightmare instance. He skipped the details of what had happened, but listed all the information they had obtained.

Gu Wenzhu analyzed, “So Qu-laoshi’s family was actually unhappy. That’s different from the information we got in the [Mermaid] instance. What Xiao Yue showed us was that his family was happy. It seems that personality had beautified reality and completely misled us.”

Lan Mo said, “In that case, we’ll have to verify and filter the information from each personality individually. Xiao Yue could lie, so Class Monitor No. 6 could lie too.”

Qi Feng nodded. “That’s certainly possible.”

Yan Jiyun quietly listened as they discussed their next plan.

However, he was already getting sleepy. Playing with children wasn’t exactly an easy task.

He let out a huge yawn. When Qi Feng saw him yawn, he yawned too.

The school’s wake-up bell had already rung. Morning exercises were about to begin.

The homeroom teacher personally came to check on everyone, so Yan Jiyun couldn’t even sneak in another nap.

Just in case, Qi Feng carried Yan Jiyun on his back to morning exercises.

All of the players slacked off during the exercises, but none of the teachers watched too closely. As long as they were present, no names would be recorded.

Instead, it was Yan Jiyun’s absence from his class’s morning exercises that nearly attracted the teacher’s attention. Fortunately, the Little Class Monitor came up with an excuse for him and helped him avoid trouble.

None of the players triggered Main Mission 3 until after breakfast, when everyone had returned to their classrooms.

After Bald Yang had been taken down, a new math teacher arrived the next day.

Bald Yang had originally taught math to Classes 1, 2, and 3. The new teacher simply took over his classes. He was a young, handsome math teacher who looked like he had just graduated from college.

Time slowly passed. Gu Wenzhu and Qiu Xi began worrying about Yan Jiyun himself. During the first morning class, they searched the entire school but couldn’t find him. Neither of them bothered Qi Feng or Lan Mo, though, because in their eyes, Yan Jiyun and Qi Feng weren’t particularly close.

A full two days had already passed. There were five days remaining before the instance ended.

Yan Jiyun wanted to meet the new teacher. However, before he could act, not long after breakfast, the Class Monitor of Class 5 suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the infirmary.

Perfect timing. Work had arrived.

As soon as many of the players heard that the Class 5 monitor had fainted, they immediately rushed out of their classrooms. Qi Feng, however, remained calm and didn’t hurry after them.

Although this incident might trigger Main Mission 3, it wasn’t the only possible path.

They had also investigated the students fainting yesterday, but never triggered any quests related to food poisoning or the students collapsing. That suggested the quest wasn’t actually about food poisoning. However, it could still be a side quest disguised as a main quest.

Yan Jiyun felt they should continue focusing on the triplets. 

Lan Mo and the other two once again investigated the food poisoning incident, while Qi Feng remained in the teaching building, continuing to keep an eye on the Little Class Monitor.

At the same time, he was also asking around about Yan Jiyun’s whereabouts, wondering whether he was hiding somewhere asleep or had been captured by an NPC.

Why couldn’t anyone find him?

He thought of the painting from last night. Aside from imprisoning people, he wondered what else it could do. Perhaps it could save their lives at a critical moment.

The painting was too large, so they had hidden it in a dormitory locker instead of bringing it with them. They probably wouldn’t need it during the day anyway.

Qi Feng scribbled on a sheet of paper, organizing the entire logic of the instance.

After finishing, and before the second-period teacher arrived, he skipped class with Yan Jiyun on his back.

He couldn’t keep Caramel cooped up forever. Cats needed to go outside and stretch their legs.

As he walked out, he happened to run into the Little Class Monitor delivering homework notebooks to the teachers’ office.

Believing that he and Qi Feng had formed a detective squad friendship, the Little Class Monitor asked, “Have you seen Yan Jiyun? He didn’t come to class this morning.”

Qi Feng replied, “We haven’t seen him either since we came out yesterday.”

The Little Class Monitor looked heartbroken. “Do you think Yang-laoshi might have hurt him?”

Qi Feng shook his head. “No. Yang-laoshi has already been taken away by the police.”

Bald Yang’s storyline in this instance had already concluded. Not long after they defeated him the previous night, police cars arrived at the school and took him away. Afterward, the school returned to its normal routine.

At that moment, Yan Jiyun wondered if perhaps he should show himself after all.

He still needed to obtain more useful information from the Little Class Monitor.

Qi Feng was about to continue downstairs when Class Monitor No. 2, Yan Weicheng, walked over. “Yan Weilan, come here for a moment. I need to talk to you.”

“Okay, Dage, wait a second.” The Little Class Monitor was a polite child. He quickly said to Qi Feng, “My brother’s looking for me. Make sure you find Yan Jiyun. I hope he’s okay.”

The Little Class Monitor cheerfully ran over to Yan Weicheng, whose expression was rather grim.

Qi Feng immediately sensed that something was off. Through the opening in the backpack, Yan Jiyun also noticed that Yan Weicheng’s attitude was completely different from yesterday’s.

Yesterday, Yan Weicheng had been concerned about Yan Weilan.

Today, however, Yan Weicheng was much angrier. As he looked at Yan Weilan, there was suppressed anger in his eyes, and he wasn’t hiding it particularly well.

Whatever they wanted to discuss was apparently private, because the two of them walked over to a deserted corner.

Qi Feng sensed something unusual and decisively followed them.

Yan Weicheng: “Why were you captured by Bald Yang yesterday? Why did he want to catch you?”

Yan Weilan innocently replied, “I don’t know why Yang-laoshi wanted to catch me. He’s a human trafficker.”

Yan Weicheng stared sternly at his younger brother. “Yan Weilan, tell me the truth. Did you do something to that teacher?”

Yan Weilan lowered his gaze. “Dage, why don’t you believe me? I didn’t do anything.”

Yan Weicheng: “Look at me when you answer.”

Yan Weilan raised his head and met his brother’s eyes. “It has nothing to do with me.”

Yan Weicheng neither said he believed him nor that he didn’t. He simply stared at Yan Weilan before quietly asking, “Did the poisoning of our class monitor have anything to do with you?”

Yan Weilan:  “Does Dage really distrust me that much? I’m not even close to your class monitor. I’ve never had any conflict with him.”

Yan Weicheng: “The class monitor is my friend. You killed my little white rabbit before. I’m allowed to have friends too. My world can’t revolve around only you.”

Yan Jiyun thought the two brothers communicated in a surprisingly mature way. Sure enough, Yan Weilan wasn’t quite what he had imagined.

Yan Weilan frowned and said, “I didn’t kill your little white rabbit. It was sick at the time. I gave it medicine. I didn’t know it would die. I’ve never stopped you from making friends, Dage.” 

Yan Weicheng:  “Fine. I’ll believe you for now.”

Yan Weilan muttered gloomily, “Dage still doesn’t believe me.”

Yan Weicheng: “It’s not that I don’t believe you. Go to class.”

Yan Weilan pursed his lips and said nothing more.

Yan Jiyun thought he looked rather pitiful. But what was going on with Yan Weicheng? Was he suspecting his own younger brother of poisoning the class monitor? Or had Yan Weilan done something before this that made Yan Weicheng wary of him?

So yesterday’s concern hadn’t been because all the class monitors were being poisoned. Rather, Yan Weicheng and Yan Weiqing had suspected that Yan Weilan was poisoning other students? Following him to the cafeteria had been to prevent him from doing something bad? In their eyes, the intelligent Yan Weilan was actually a bad child?

Who could have imagined that after just one night, the situation would undergo such a dramatic reversal?
