GV – Chapter 98

Stopping and Confidence

Ye Yuhuan had expected Song Zhiqing to be clingy, but not this clingy.

It was as if she could never get enough. She just kept… wanting it.

They stayed in the house for three whole days, even eating their meals in bed. Ye Yuhuan kept glancing at Song Zhiqing’s hand, genuinely afraid she’d wake up one day to find her girlfriend had turned into Yang Guo.

The good, yet not-so-good, news was that Song Zhiqing’s hand held up. It trembled occasionally, but it was still usable. Ye Yuhuan, however, couldn’t hold up any longer. She was about to be drained dry.

Her whole body was sore and weak, like a steak that had been tenderized by a chef pounding it with the back of a knife. Every inch of her skin was hot and sensitive, and the marks on her body were so numerous they could have been considered performance art.

Had this girl secretly become a pervert over the past five years? Back when she was “Ye Yuhuan,” she had been so shy, carefully asking for permission just to change positions. And now?

These past few days, she’d been flipping her over like a fish in a pan!

Ye Yuhuan couldn’t take it anymore. It wasn’t that she disliked this sort of thing, but this level of frequency and lack of restraint was just… it wasn’t healthy!

“Song Zhiqing, let’s take a break for half a day.”

Song Zhiqing raised an eyebrow, a surprised expression on her face. “Why? I’m still full of energy.”

Ye Yuhuan was furious. “Well, I’m not!”

A certain someone’s eyes darted around until they finally found a piece of evidence. “But you’re clearly still full of energy!”

Ye Yuhuan followed her gaze, looked down, and immediately pulled the blanket over herself in a fluster. “Song Zhiqing, aren’t you afraid of causing an injury!”

Song Zhiqing finally seemed to realize the gravity of the situation and shot up. “I’ll go get you some ointment!”

Ointment aside, while Song Zhiqing had been relentless, she hadn’t actually hurt her. But seeing the conspicuous dark circles under the other woman’s eyes, Ye Yuhuan swore, “Goddammit, just go to sleep!”

Ye Yuhuan wanted to kick her but had no strength. Her leg just waved pathetically fifty centimeters above the bed, making her feel like a half-stewed duck.

Ah, Ye Yuhuan seems to be really angry.

Ah, I think I really went too far.

Belatedly realizing these two points, Song Zhiqing quietly sidled up to Ye Yuhuan and pleaded in a small voice, “I just really, really wanted to be close to you.”

But we don’t have to be at a negative distance the whole time! Ye Yuhuan closed her eyes. After swearing, she felt a certain recklessness, but she suppressed the urge to curse again and tried to communicate calmly with Song Zhiqing. “There are many ways to be close. If we keep going like this, we’re both going to get hurt. Think about it—if your hand gets ruined, and it’s from that, how could we ever show our faces in public again?”

But of all the colors in the rainbow—red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, violet—Song Zhiqing’s mind seemed to be left with only yellow. “I’ve already thought about it! If my hand gets ruined, we’ll use toys!”

Unable to bear it any longer, Ye Yuhuan rolled over. “Get lost!”

Song Zhiqing giggled and shamelessly sidled closer again. “Alright, alright, no more. We’ll rest and recover properly.”

“Baby, let me put some ointment on you.”

Ye Yuhuan didn’t want to deal with the ointment, but when she heard Song Zhiqing getting out of bed, she thought for a moment, rolled back over, and reminded her in a low voice, “Your hand… rub some medicated oil on it, too.”

“And put on some clothes.”

Song Zhiqing waved a dismissive hand. “It’s fine, no one’s home.”

No, there needed to be someone home.

At this point, only the moral baseline of human society could restrain Song Zhiqing’s bottomless self-indulgence.

By the time she stood in the sunlight again, another two days had passed.

Only then did Ye Yuhuan fully recall that the reason she wasn’t at work was because she had taken annual leave, and the reason she had taken annual leave was to spend time with her parents.

And now, she had been gone from home for five days without a word.

Of those five days, three were spent in utter debauchery, and two were spent in intermittent debauchery. And during the times that weren’t debaucherous, Song Zhiqing was still stuck to her like a piece of sticky rice cake.

She had been too engrossed.

She hadn’t thought of her parents at all.

Nor had she thought of her phone.

Ye Yuhuan covered her face heavily. She turned on her phone, and through the gaps in her fingers, she could see a shocking number of missed calls.

Most were from her parents, but they had stopped calling three days ago, likely having figured out the situation. Instead, they had sent a message in the “Loving Family” group chat: Huanhuan, are you having so much fun you’ve forgotten the way home?

Song Zhiqing, who was walking ahead, didn’t hear Ye Yuhuan’s footsteps and turned around. “Why’d you stop?”

Ye Yuhuan didn’t move her hands from her face, but she had already quickly turned off the phone screen. She didn’t know how to face this reality yet. She was thirty-two, not twenty-two. If her parents teased her about her “old house catching fire,” she would genuinely be so mortified she’d jump out of the building.

“How am I going to explain this to my parents?” Ye Yuhuan’s voice was filled with anguish.

In fact, Song Zhiqing had already thought about this. After all, between Ye Chu’s strange attitude toward her and the bits and pieces of the past Ye Yuhuan had mentioned over the last few days, Song Zhiqing guessed that Ye Chu and Si Zhen’s impression of her probably wasn’t very good.

Well, “not very good” was a modest way of putting it.

“Quite dislike” would be more accurate.

And after suddenly spiriting their daughter away for five days, their opinion had probably evolved to finding fault with her in every way imaginable.

So, Song Zhiqing grabbed Ye Yuhuan’s hand and strode toward the car, saying, “I’ll go back with you. We’ll just say you were with me.”

Since they already disliked her so much, she had to at least try to earn some points.

Ye Yuhuan felt a sense of panic, as if the ground had disappeared from under her feet.

“Didn’t we agree we were just trying things out?”

So, meeting the parents… isn’t that a little too serious?

She didn’t say the last part, but the implication was clear.

Hearing this, Song Zhiqing stopped in her tracks, her eyes narrowing dangerously. She had probably prepared for this, as she had deliberately avoided wearing black today. Dressed in a cream-white women’s suit, she looked like a mirror that had finally been wiped clean, and even her voice sounded clearer than before. “Are you trying to love me and leave me? Play with me and then take no responsibility?”

Ye Yuhuan couldn’t bear to hear such words and quickly covered Song Zhiqing’s mouth.

“Don’t talk nonsense! What if someone hears you?”

Besides, what did she mean, she played with her? It had been Song Zhiqing who was the enthusiastic one this whole time!

Song Zhiqing pointed to the car, signaling for them to talk inside.

Once the car door was closed, Song Zhiqing’s mouth was free again. “I want to formally meet your parents. I think we need to explain this together.”

“Like, say we went on a trip?”

Heh. A trip where you don’t even have time to answer a single phone call?

Ye Yuhuan wasn’t fooled by Song Zhiqing’s seemingly reasonable suggestion. She got straight to the heart of the matter. “Isn’t it too soon to meet my parents now? We only just got back together.”

Song Zhiqing stared at her and said sullenly, “But we’re going to be together for a long time. Meeting them sooner or later is all the same.”

Ye Yuhuan fell silent. Song Zhiqing understood something from her silence. She let out a breath and leaned over to hug Ye Yuhuan.

“You don’t trust me.”

“No. I don’t trust myself.”

Now it was Song Zhiqing’s turn to be silent. She nudged Ye Yuhuan’s shoulder hard. The sleeveless, deep-V dress Ye Yuhuan had arrived in was long since unwearable; she was now in Song Zhiqing’s clothes. So Song Zhiqing nudged a layer of fabric, wrinkling it, and then had to painstakingly smooth it out again.

It was such a thankless effort.

“I thought that over these past five days, you would have felt how much I like you.”

But Ye Yuhuan was clear-headed to the point of cruelty. “But that doesn’t change the fact that we’re not very familiar with each other in the real world.”

So, it was possible this was just lust.

She stroked the back of Song Zhiqing’s head and said gently, “Can we just leave this to time?”

Ye Yuhuan didn’t want to proudly declare she owned a diamond only to lose it later. The pain from that would be doubled.

Song Zhiqing sensed Ye Yuhuan’s dejection. In her arms, Ye Yuhuan was as anxious as a little hamster about to face winter.

In that case, I’ll just have to stock up more food for her.

Song Zhiqing cupped Ye Yuhuan’s face and gave her an incredibly lingering kiss, a kiss that seemed intended to soothe every muscle beneath the mucous membranes of her mouth.

After the kiss ended, she said, “I love you.”

“Mm, that’s today’s proof.”

The aftereffect of that kiss was powerful. So powerful that after Song Zhiqing dropped her off downstairs, as she pressed the elevator button, stood before her front door, and entered the code, she still felt as if she were walking on clouds.

It’s true what they say, there’s no one like a mother. Seeing her daughter walk in looking dazed, Si Zhen put down her phone and was the first to welcome her. “Yo, so you do know how to come back.”

Ye Yuhuan: “…”

“Mom, can you please speak normally?”

Her husband, Ye Chu, hearing the commotion, immediately rushed to her defense, chiding Ye Yuhuan, “Is that any way to talk to your mother!”

Here it comes. It’s finally here.

Ye Yuhuan apologized first. “I’m sorry, Mom, Dad. I was busy the last few days and didn’t have a chance to look at my phone.”

Si Zhen held up her hand, fingers spread. “Five days. Five whole days. Even if you’d been kidnapped, they would have called us for ransom by now.”

“Mom, I don’t think our family’s financial situation would attract any kidnappers,” Ye Yuhuan joked inappropriately, trying to distract Si Zhen.

Then, she surrendered under Si Zhen’s cold gaze. “I was wrong.”

“Wrong about what?”

“My old house caught fire.”

Oh well. Better to humiliate herself than wait for her mom to do it.

Si Zhen retorted irritably, “From what I can see, that fire of yours hasn’t gone out in years!”

Before the words had even faded, she looked at her daughter seriously. To be fair, the Ye Yuhuan before her today was the most relaxed she had seen her in years, or perhaps even in over a decade. She looked as if a great burden had finally been lifted, or as if she had finally swallowed a mouthful of food. The withered look that had previously shrouded her was now gone. So, Si Zhen helplessly softened her voice and continued, “You like her that much?”

“Yes, very much.”

“Then have a good relationship,” Ye Chu cut in before Si Zhen could speak.

Si Zhen shot him a glare, then slowly walked over to Ye Yuhuan, who was still standing in the same spot, and gave her a gentle hug.

She said, “Just listen to your father.”
