TSBSAAM Chapter 57

Entering the Laboratory

Chapter 57: Entering the Laboratory

Qin Luzhi discovered that Shen Bumian had been avoiding him recently. This discovery made him very unhappy.

Aside from the extra training at night, for which Shen Bumian would still call him, he couldn’t run into Shen Bumian at any other time. For lunch, he would rather be a third wheel for Chen Hebin and the others than eat at the same time as him.

It seemed as if everything had returned to how it was before; he was back to eating and training with He Jing and Mu Yi.

He hadn’t yet had the chance to return a neck ring to Shen Bumian, but he had already put on a new one.

He Jing poked at the rice in his bowl, truly unable to stand Qin Luzhi’s continuous low-pressure mood these past few days.

He chose his words with care, “Boss, did you and sister-in-law have a fight?”

Qin Luzhi’s emotionless eyes stared at him. He Jing’s hair stood on end, and a guess formed in his mind. “Is sister-in-law giving you the silent treatment?”

Qin Luzhi’s face darkened even more, and the cold aura around him intensified. It was obvious He Jing was right.

Mu Yi also felt like laughing seeing Qin Luzhi like this, but he held it in. If he wanted to continue watching the show, he couldn’t be too obvious.

“Ahem, so, did you go apologize?” Mu Yi tried to change the subject.

Unexpectedly, Qin Luzhi got even angrier after hearing that. He wanted to have a proper talk too, but the problem was he couldn’t even see Shen Bumian. During their extra training sessions, he couldn’t bear to disturb the exhausted Shen Bumian.

Qin Luzhi directly picked up his tray. “You guys eat. I’m full.”

Qin Luzhi walked irritably towards the dormitory building and, by a stroke of luck, ran into Shen Bumian, who was holding a large stack of documents.

Without a second thought, Qin Luzhi went straight over. Shen Bumian felt the load in his hands lighten, and he met Qin Luzhi’s gaze. His body stiffened.

Qin Luzhi gave him no opportunity, holding the documents and walking beside him. “Why are you avoiding me?”

Shen Bumian glanced at him a few times, his words evasive. “I’m not avoiding you. I’m, I’ve just been too busy these past few days.”

Qin Luzhi didn’t expose Shen Bumian’s flimsy lie, just nodded thoughtfully. “Oh? Busy with what?”

Shen Bumian slowly began to explain, half-truthfully, “Do you remember that experiment I told you about? I’ve been helping in Teacher Gu’s lab recently.”

Shen Bumian wasn’t lying. Gu Yixi had noticed his special nature, said he would help keep it a secret, and asked if he could come help when he had time. Gu Yixi’s experiment was stuck at a critical point.

Moreover, Gu Yixi believed that the key lay with Shen Bumian.

After some thought, Shen Bumian had agreed. He had a feeling that this experiment might be connected to the things he wanted to know.

The path became quiet again. Shen Bumian was on his way to the lab to deliver materials, and they had now arrived.

“Qin Luzhi, um, I wasn’t avoiding you. I’m just a little unused to it, it feels strange. I don’t want to affect you.”

After an omega is marked, they will become dependent on the Alpha who marked them. This is mutual; the Alpha will also develop a strong sense of possessiveness over the omega they marked.

It might even become an addiction, temporarily interfering with one’s judgment. That was why Shen Bumian had thought to keep his distance from Qin Luzhi, to give them both time to calm down.

Their marriage contract was only for one year. He couldn’t hold Qin Luzhi back because of his own mistake. Anyone would be unhappy knowing their Alpha had once marked another omega.

Every time he thought of this, Shen Bumian felt a little sorry for Qin Luzhi’s future partner.

His words were easy to understand. Qin Luzhi understood almost as soon as he finished speaking. He felt both exasperated and amused. He pressed the tip of his tongue against his cheek, barely suppressing his own thoughts.

“Shen Bumian, I won’t be affected. You don’t have to avoid me. Trust the self-control and willpower of a top-tier Alpha.”

He would fight against an Alpha’s nature for Shen Bumian.

Shen Bumian was a bit stunned after hearing this. It seemed he also held some traditional views; after all, that’s what the textbooks said. But Qin Luzhi… he really didn’t seem to be that kind of person.

For some reason, the thought that Qin Luzhi wouldn’t get addicted to his pheromones made him feel a little disappointed.

But that emotion was fleeting. He quickly thought things through. Qin Luzhi was trustworthy; there was absolutely no need for him to avoid him because of that one mistake.

A sense of guilt rose in his heart again. He hadn’t been with Qin Luzhi at all these past few days. “Let me treat you to dinner?”

Qin Luzhi didn’t know how Shen Bumian’s topic had changed so quickly. “Huh? Why are you suddenly treating me to dinner?”

Shen Bumian blinked. “Just felt like treating you. Will you do me the honor?”

Qin Luzhi’s heart shamelessly sped up, and he could only nod numbly.

Seeing this, Shen Bumian happily walked into the laboratory building. He still had to input data today.

The low pressure around Qin Luzhi visibly disappeared, replaced by cheerfulness. Looking at the now-relaxed Shen Bumian, he could only sigh helplessly.

Whose fault was it that he fell for such an oblivious omega?

He Jing felt that the ordeal was finally over. Seeing Qin Luzhi return to the dorm without a frown on his face, he let out a huge sigh of relief. It seemed something had just happened.

And most likely, sister-in-law was willing to talk to him again. He half-heartedly offered his congratulations as Qin Luzhi passed by him.

Qin Luzhi completely ignored his words and returned to his room, opening his terminal to ask his “Little Dad” to send him a copy of the lab’s data.

On the other end, Gu Yixi was a bit puzzled as to why Qin Luzhi was suddenly concerned about him and interested in his experiment.

But then he looked at Shen Bumian, who was working diligently at his station, and it didn’t seem so surprising after all.

He secretly instilled in Shen Bumian the idea that Alphas are no good, looking forward to Qin Luzhi eating his words and chasing his wife.

He couldn’t let his son have it easy, not after his attitude at the beginning.

Shen Bumian was completely unaware of all this. These past few days, he had become genuinely interested in this “Project X.”

Through this experiment, he had come into contact with deeper matters.

It seemed that the unstable spiritual power, and even the rampages, of ability users were caused by energy radiation pollution. This was a drawback of evolution that no one could avoid.

However, the evolution of omegas didn’t seem to be due to energy, but rather their own genes. Due to survival of the fittest, omegas were once a step below Alphas, so this was a gift bestowed upon them by the universe.

Omegas mostly had spiritual-type abilities, likely due to the evolution of their willpower, and it just so happened that an omega’s pheromones could soothe an Alpha.

Shen Bumian had carefully read the files and discovered that an omega’s blood and pheromones contained a substance that suppressed spiritual power rampages. What it was had not yet been researched.

Shen Bumian had a faint feeling that this was very likely related to the mysterious organization that turned Alphas into omegas.

Perhaps what that mysterious organization wanted was the results of Teacher Gu’s experiment.

It was a strange guess that had suddenly popped into his mind, but once the idea appeared, he could no longer easily separate the two.

So he directly applied to join Gu Yixi’s laboratory. In fact, Gu Yixi’s lab was no longer recruiting; the people inside were already core researchers and didn’t need more manpower.

It was inconvenient and unsafe.

But Shen Bumian became the exception because he volunteered to be a test subject. He willingly contributed his own blood samples and pheromone extracts.

After a meeting and discussion among the senior members, they decided to make an exception and admit Shen Bumian.

Shen Bumian told Zhou Yizhou and Qin Luzhi this news. Zhou Yizhou also seemed to be busy with something recently.
