PCMWF Chapter 201

Picking Up Youyou from School

Pei Qiqi stayed in this house for three days and returned to Shenyuan on Monday afternoon. Pei Yi had a pile of work to catch up on, and Hua Zhao had to go back to the company for a meeting with colleagues. Pei Qiqi was on his tiptoes, taking down the “Away on Business” sign hanging on the villa’s iron gate. He was a big kid now. He wouldn’t be scared at home alone.

Since the heart-to-heart that day, Pei Yi often saw smiles on his little nephew’s face. This kind of carefree, innocent, childlike smile belonging to a child had finally returned to Qiqi’s face. Pei Yi was overjoyed, tilting his face to cry, but Hua Zhao slapped him, and he pouted and took it back.

“Qiqi, be good at home. Uncle Bai will be here soon.”

Uncle Bai was the cook Chu Ying had introduced to them three months ago. He had a good temper and liked children, often making special meals for the two kids. Pei Qiqi put his hands in his pockets, standing at the door, not going in. His gaze toward the Shen family villa hadn’t come back. Pei Yi hurried back to his room to get his computer. When he reached the door, he saw Qiqi still standing there.

He was immediately moved. “You even know to see Uncle off to work. Go in, it’s cold outside.”

Hua Zhao scoffed, crouched down, put a small hat on Pei Qiqi’s head, and put gloves on him.

“Qiqi is waiting for Youyou. Don’t be so narcissistic.”

Pei Yi’s heart broke. Looking toward the Shen house, he immediately saw a familiar figure.

“Hey, Xiao Tang.”

Tang Dou was about to go pick up Youyou from kindergarten. He had just opened the car door when he saw Pei Yi, whom he hadn’t seen for days, waving at him.

“Brother Pei, you’re back.”

Pei Yi immediately picked up the eagerly waiting child, ran to the door, opened the car door, and put the child in the safety seat.

“Qiqi, go with Brother Xiao Tang to pick up Youyou, okay?”

Pei Qiqi nodded happily, waving his little hand excitedly.

“Brother Xiao Tang, drive quickly.”

Tang Dou laughed, came over to check the child’s safety buckle, pinched his face, and said Long time no see, then got into the driver’s seat.

Shen Yan got in the car and saw the child. He turned sideways and reached out to hook Pei Qiqi’s chin. “Oh, Qiqi’s back. Did you miss me?”

Pei Qiqi smiled and nodded, saying he missed him.

“Great. Today the team picking up Youyou from school has grown again. Let’s go!”

The icy road had been cleared. The car drove smoothly to the gate of Xingya Kindergarten. Pei Qiqi was stunned when he was carried out of the car. The kindergarten gate was packed with parents. Tang Dou carried him on his back, nimble and flexible, weaving in. Perhaps seeing Tang Dou carrying a child, the other parents made way a little.

When Pei Qiqi and Tang Dou squeezed to the front, Pei Qiqi was stunned. The parents in the front rows were all ready, eyes forward, hands lifting the hems of their down jackets, ready to rush in. Then he looked at Tang Dou. The young man’s front knee was slightly bent, hands behind his back securing Pei Qiqi, his body like a bow ready to fire. Pei Qiqi was infected by the tension, hands clenched into fists, lips pressed, focused, occasionally looking up in Class 5’s direction. He had to be the first to pick up Youyou.

The snow inside the kindergarten was cleared every day. There were no obstacles when running. Qiqi hugged Brother Xiao Tang’s neck tightly, suddenly remembering that Shen Yan didn’t know where he’d gone. Whoosh. A tall, fully armed man darted past. Pei Qiqi’s eyes lit up. Shen Yan was half a body ahead of Tang Dou and even had time to wink at Pei Qiqi. At this moment, Class 5 was also stirring. Because of his height, the little guy was placed in the first row by Teacher Apple, his little body straight.

“Children, we’ve spent another happy day together. Before school ends, let’s review the hand-washing song, okay?”

A group of little ones answered loudly: “Okay!”

The parents at the door watched the children singing and swaying inside and smiled. Pei Qiqi stood on tiptoes, hands on the door, but was too short, completely blocked by the door panel. Soon, the dismissal bell rang in the corridor. The little ones in the classroom, led by the teacher, put on their backpacks and lined up obediently, holding hands. The moment the door opened, Su Youli met Pei Qiqi’s eyes.

“Brother Qiqi!” The little guy jumped twice in place.

The little ones who had just been lining up obediently looked toward the door. The line suddenly became chaotic. Pei Qiqi was surrounded by classmates, chattering nonstop in his ear. Pei Qiqi usually didn’t talk much in class. He was the quietest during group activities. Being surrounded and cared for by so many children was a first. He was a bit at a loss and shrank back.

For children this age, a classmate being absent for several days and suddenly returning on an ordinary afternoon was like a small surprise on an ordinary day. The teachers quickly organized discipline. Seeing several children hugging Pei Qiqi and refusing to let go, they simply brought Pei Qiqi into the classroom, letting him return to Class 5 early. Su Youli had been holding Pei Xu’s hand since he returned, smiling with curved eyes, happy inside.

“Youyou.” Teacher Apple took the pickup card from Tang Dou and called out to the two little ones holding hands tightly.

Su Youli walked to Brother Xiao Tang’s side and turned back. “Goodbye, Teacher Apple. Goodbye, Teacher Huahua.”

Pei Qiqi had indeed brought a little off-road vehicle for Youyou. A military green little off-roader, just right for two children to sit in. To make it convenient for the little one to drive the off-roader to the vegetable greenhouse, Pei Qiqi had asked his uncle to install a vegetable basket on the side. The little guy walked around the off-roader several times, the smile on his face never fading. Brother Qiqi was so good, giving him such a pretty car. The little guy climbed into the driver’s seat with his hands and feet, putting his little hands on the steering wheel like a pro.

“Brother Xiao Tang, I want to pick vegetables.”

In autumn, Chu Ying hired someone to section off a piece of land behind the villa and build a vegetable greenhouse. Her little one loved plants too much. The plants in the garden couldn’t be picked often, so they planted various vegetables to satisfy the little guy’s wish to pick plants. Vegetables were plants too. After picking, they could eat them.

The greenhouse had a resounding name: “Youyou’s Endless Picking.” Shen Minyan personally inscribed it, bought an oak piece to carve it, and stood it majestically in front of the greenhouse. The little guy drove Brother Qiqi, put on his farming boots, and drove the little green off-roader in.

Shen Yan and Tang Dou followed slowly, the remote control in their pockets. The car was slightly faster than walking. Any slower and they might not fool the little guy who had been in kindergarten for two months.
