PCMWF Chapter142

PCMWF Chapter

“Auntie, what did Mom say?” Niu Niu sat on a stool, eating her meal properly, listening to the nanny talking on the phone.

Nanny Wang had watched Niu Niu grow up and treated her like a granddaughter. From the tone of Wang Shilan’s voice, Nanny Wang guessed she and Du Ze had quarreled, and she’d called someone to throw out his things.

Nanny Wang touched Niu Niu’s hair. “Mom went to work. Let’s go home first, okay?”

Niu Niu put down her soup spoon and frowned. “But Mom is still sick.”

How could she go to work when she was sick? Every time she remembered her mom’s tired, uncomfortable face from this morning, she felt a knot in her stomach.

“Mom said she’ll bring you a gift when she gets back. She wants you to wait at home.”

The little girl’s eyes lit up. The promise of a gift made her raise her hand and announce she wanted to go home right now. Nanny Wang had just reached the front door with Niu Niu when she saw a few people in uniform waiting. They were from the cleaning service. Wang Shilan had already communicated all the details over the phone. Everything in the master bedroom on the second floor, all men’s clothes and accessories in the walk-in closet, from furniture down to a pair of slippers, was to be removed.

The group was taken upstairs by Nanny Wang. The leader pulled out his phone, opened a checklist, and got to work. The premium cleaning service worked silently, not disturbing Niu Niu as she watched her cartoons. At that moment, the younger nanny, Nanny Li, came over, glanced at the second floor with a puzzled expression, and gestured to Nanny Wang.

“What’s going on with those people?”

Nanny Wang was kneading dough. She stopped and lowered her voice. “I don’t know. Niu Niu’s mom just said to let them in and keep Niu Niu calm.”

She looked out. Niu Niu was sitting on the sofa, giggling at her cartoon.

Nanny Wang added her guess: “Maybe they had a fight.”

A fight?!

Nanny Li’s eyes widened, and she clapped her hands together.

“A fight is good! I’ve always said Du Ze wasn’t good enough for Shilan. If it weren’t for Niu Niu liking him, he wouldn’t even deserve to live in this villa.”

Nanny Wang shushed her. “Don’t talk nonsense.”

In their line of work, the worst thing was to gossip about their employers’ private affairs.

“What nonsense? If Niu Niu didn’t like him, I would have told Shilan a hundred bad things about him by now.”

Nanny Wang glanced at Niu Niu, who was so well-behaved she didn’t even need watching, and whispered to Nanny Li, “I feel like Niu Niu hasn’t been as clingy to Du Ze lately. The day before yesterday, when he wanted to take her to a friend’s house for dinner, she didn’t want to go.”

Before, Niu Niu would always agree to whatever Du Ze said. While the two nannies were chatting, the packing upstairs was in full swing. The professional movers worked quickly, pulling extra-large trash bags from their tool kits and efficiently sweeping expensive custom suits and other items into the bags. They moved fast, treating their garbage bags like magic sacks, stuffing them full. When Nanny Li came up to check on the progress, she saw them each with large bags, standing in front of various cabinets, their eyes gleaming. Seeing her, the movers looked a little sheepish, but their hands never stopped.

“Ms. Du said we can dispose of these items as we see fit,” the leader said.

Nanny Li nodded in understanding. Du Ze was a celebrity with a wealthy wife. His event clothes were all expensive purchases from Wang Shilan. He owned over a hundred pairs of cufflinks alone, countless suits, watches, brooches, ties, bow ties, leather shoes, sunglasses, accessories. Just selling these secondhand could easily fetch nearly seven figures.

Nanny Li was stunned. She immediately joined the effort, first taking the watches Du Ze wore most often to high-society events. She planned to sell them and use the money to buy Niu Niu pretty little dresses and toys. In less than half an hour, the master bedroom showed no trace of Du Ze. As for the furniture, Wang Shilan had also arranged for them to be recycled, at secondhand market prices. If Niu Niu hadn’t been used to living there, Wang Shilan would have sold the house.

With so many people working, it took less than two hours to clear the villa of all of Du Ze’s belongings. The two nannies stood with Niu Niu on the doorstep. They were worried the little girl might be upset seeing her dad’s things being taken away, or that she’d ask why they were doing it. But Niu Niu didn’t look sad. She sat on the soft rug, playing with her plush dolls.

When she saw the strangers taking away Du Ze’s clothes, shoes, his favorite box of CDs, a case of game cartridges, and his prized guitars, she tilted her head, blinked a few times, then turned her attention back to dressing her doll. Niu Niu had grown up with only her mom. In the two years before Du Ze appeared, it had been just the two of them. The little girl understood that she and her mom were about to go back to living the way they had before, without a dad.

She pinched the doll’s little dress and muttered, “I don’t like Dad anymore. I don’t want him. I only want Mommy.”

The cleanup was in full swing, and over at the live stream, things were also heating up.

Let’s go back to five minutes after Wang Shilan had left the hospital. Her assistant waited respectfully by the car. Wang Shilan looked pale, and even without makeup, the anger in her eyes was hard to hide. The assistant swallowed silently, opened the car door, and said respectfully, “Ms. Wang.”

Wang Shilan nodded and got into the car. A black luxury car sped toward its destination. The assistant sat in the front with a laptop, reporting in a slightly flustered voice, then turned to look at the back seat. Wang Shilan sat with her eyes closed, quickly processing the assistant’s report in her mind.

“Have you taken care of everything I asked?”

The assistant nodded immediately. “The videos you gave me were edited by a professional editor we trust. They won’t be leaked. I’ve also contacted the PR team we’ve worked with many times before.”

Wang Shilan hummed in acknowledgment and checked the time. They would arrive at the live stream venue in less than ten minutes.
