CFHE Chapter 88

Extra 2

Class 6 had Class 6’s area. There were no desks in the auditorium, so all parents and students had to squeeze together to sit. The three of them sat together.

Fang Wanjing belatedly realized something was wrong. Keeping her voice down, she leaned past Wen Yu to ask: “Xiao Fu, aren’t your parents coming?”

As soon as she finished asking, she quickly felt Wen Yu beside her freeze for a moment.

She realized she might have asked the wrong question.

Instead, it was Fu Yuhan who glanced over casually, lowered his eyes in thought for a moment, then poked Wen Yu with his hand.

Wen Yu turned his head to look at him: “Hm?”

“Stand up,” Fu Yuhan said. “Switch seats with me.”

Wen Yu didn’t know what he was planning to say to Fang Wanjing, but in any case, he had no objections. He lifted his legs and stood up.

The teachers preparing to speak were about to go on stage, and here these two tall guys were switching seats in front of everyone—it was quite eye-catching. Near the front of the auditorium, Director Yao was so angry at them his beard bristled and eyes glared, but he couldn’t make a scene. His face was practically twisted.

“My parents are divorced.”

That was Fu Yuhan’s first sentence after sitting down.

Fang Wanjing was slightly surprised—it wasn’t easy to get an eighteen-year-old boy to open up, but Fu Yuhan was very proactive, which made him seem very sincere.

“After they divorced, they each formed new families, and now they’ve each… had new children.” His voice wasn’t loud, his tone calm, as if narrating something unrelated to himself. “I live with my mom, but my younger sister isn’t in good health and she has to take care of her, so when there are parent-teacher conferences, I always apply with Teacher Zhou to come by myself.”

If Fang Wanjing were Wen Yu’s biological mother, she felt she should pat this big boy’s head and tell him affectionately “you’ll have one more mom from now on,” but unfortunately she wasn’t, so she thought about it, did nothing, and only said as if sighing: “I see.”

She took out her phone: “Add me as a friend?”

Fu Yuhan also pulled out his phone.

After adding each other as friends, they didn’t chat further. At the front of the auditorium, the teacher in charge of speaking had already gone on stage and begun talking. The main content was suggestions for review arrangements during the one-week review break. After speaking at length for over an hour, the grade level leader wished everyone success on the college entrance exam. After that was time for distributing notices and parents individually consulting with homeroom teachers and subject teachers. The auditorium suddenly became noisy.

Fang Wanjing had nothing to consult about. She only asked the two children: “Do you two have any problems with your review?”

“No.” Both shook their heads.

“Then I won’t say a bunch of unnecessary things. Where are you planning to take the exam?”

“T University.”

“If you’re not going abroad, T University is indeed a very good choice. Then I wish you success… If you have time after the exam, come to my place for dinner.” She paused and added, “My own place.”

Fu Yuhan glanced at Wen Yu, who nodded.

“Okay.” he said. “Got it.”

Taking advantage of the noise in the auditorium, the three left the crowd and said goodbye at the school gate. After Fang Wanjing got in her car, the two walked shoulder to shoulder back to the laboratory building—before the deep cleaning, all the seniors had collectively moved their books here, just waiting to take them away after the exam rally ended.

The classroom doors upstairs were already locked. After taking these books, they wouldn’t return to school for a while.

“Huh?” Just stepping into the classroom where the books were kept, Fu Yuhan looked at his phone and froze, then laughed. “Auntie Fang is really interesting.”

Wen Yu lifted his eyelids: “Hm?”

“She transferred me 3,000 yuan as a name-change fee.” Fu Yuhan waved his phone. “That’s even more than your allowance.”

“She gave you that much and you’re still calling her Auntie Fang?” Wen Yu squinted at him with a smile. “How about I kiss you right here until you change how you address her?”

Fu Yuhan’s body lowered as he crouched and slipped past him, quickly finding his own pile of textbooks and workbooks: “Fine, fine—Mom gave me money, happy now?”

Wen Yu laughed for a long time: “Keep running. I’ll give you one more week.”

“Just one more week…”

“What, you don’t sound very eager?”

“No, it’s just…” Fu Yuhan thought for a moment. “I suddenly have this indescribable feeling.”

Wen Yu walked over to get his own books: “Melancholy? Three years of high school life coming to an end, something like that.”

“Not that either.” Fu Yuhan shook his head and picked up his books. “Probably more like sentimentality—by the way, has Brother Chen’s car arrived?”

“He said he’s already at the gate,” Wen Yu glanced at his phone. “Let’s go.”

Let’s go, let’s go, back to where they were staying.

Once this week passes, they’ll cross the final checkpoint.

—The college entrance exam.

Every year from June 7th to 8th, under the scorching sun, a silent battlefield belonging solely to each graduating senior.

Although Wen Yu had transferred schools, when exam seat numbers were assigned, it seemed they still used the original list. His exam room was a hundred thousand miles away from Fu Yuhan’s. Seeing he was grouped with a bunch of classmates from First High, he was quite depressed about it. During the review break, whenever he had nothing to do, he’d seek physical contact with Fu Yuhan—kissing, hugging, nuzzling, and whatnot, as if he couldn’t wait to grow onto the other person.

“When I zone out, I feel like I’m raising a big dog.” Fu Yuhan was pinned down by him on the sofa, really unable to continue memorizing. He had no choice but to casually place his notebook on the coffee table and hug Wen Yu back. “Be a person, bro.”

“Is that so,” Wen Yu propped himself up on his chest and stared at him, suddenly leaning over to lick the corner of his lips. “Then am I a Golden Retriever or a Labrador?”

“In your dreams. I think you’re a Samoyed.” Fu Yuhan was somewhat disdainful. “An Alaskan Malamute would work too.”

“Pretty arrogant, this friend. You even dare to insult my intelligence.” Wen Yu said, “No one’s helping you with problems tonight!”

Fu Yuhan’s expression was bland, his face full of fearlessness: “It’s fine. I did three practice exams today and didn’t run into anything I couldn’t understand.”

“But today Da-ge found us five sets of past years’ real exam questions from neighboring provinces. Are you doing them or not?”

“Doing them.” Fu Yuhan braced himself, about to get up.

Wen Yu pressed him back down: “Then what kind of dog am I?”

“…Say something human. Isn’t not being a dog even better?” Fu Yuhan was amused by him, laughing dully for quite a while, then suddenly widened his eyes.

His dense long lashes lifted upward like little fans, his gaze clear and bright.

“—Right, hubby?”

Wen Yu: “…”

Fu Yuhan didn’t dodge or evade, looking at him calmly.

“…Fuck,” Wen Yu immediately climbed off Fu Yuhan, rubbing the top of his head in frustration. “If it wasn’t for the exam in two days, I’d definitely take you right here on the spot!”

“If it wasn’t for the exam in two days, I wouldn’t be saying these things to you either.” Fu Yuhan laughed dully as he got up. “Where are the real exam questions?”

“You’re not sincerely calling me hubby at all, you just want the real exam questions in my hands!”

“Yes, I’m shameless.” Fu Yuhan’s attitude was frank, his hand still extended.

Wen Yu angrily pulled out a stack of A4 papers printed full of practice problems and slapped them into his hand. About to go to the bathroom to calm himself down, as he passed the long table, his steps paused. In frustration, he turned back and slapped off the overhead pendant light before stomping angrily toward the bathroom.

Fu Yuhan held back his laughter for quite a while, then lowered his eyes and sat down under the light, setting a two-hour timer for himself.

Wen Yu was gone for nearly half an hour before coming out. When he returned, water droplets hung from the hair at his forehead, half his face buried in shadow, looking exhausted all over.

Even so, those eyes half-concealed under his bangs were bright. He walked to Fu Yuhan’s side, gazing intensely for a while, then said in a low voice: “Can I…”

Before he finished speaking.

Fu Yuhan didn’t look up. His two long legs simply braced, and using a squatting motion, he turned the long bench he was sitting on around. Wen Yu raised an eyebrow and sat down behind him, arms wrapping around his waist from behind, resting his head on his shoulder and sniffing gently twice.

“How did you know I wanted to hold you?”

“Haven’t you been enduring it like this recently?” Fu Yuhan lowered his eyes, his voice very soft. “You’ve worked hard.”

“Knowing I’m working hard yet teasing me every couple of days, you’re really…” Wen Yu muttered, nuzzling his neck. “Am I affecting you like this?”

“No. Aren’t you doing this set of questions?”

“Doing them. Was I gone for half an hour?”

“You were.” Fu Yuhan glanced at the time.

“Then call me at 45 minutes.” Wen Yu lightly kissed the back of his neck. “I’ll give you 45 minutes, let’s see who finishes faster in the end.”

“You’re most annoying at times like this.”

“Annoying, huh? What do you plan to do about it?” He gently bit Fu Yuhan’s beautiful nape. “Once a product is sold, no returns—”

Fu Yuhan shrank his neck.

“What else can I do,” he said in a low voice. “Work hard to catch up to you.”

Wen Yu buried his face in his back and laughed dully.

This was a game they both really enjoyed playing. Fu Yuhan would time himself according to the college entrance exam schedule, Wen Yu would choose his own start time, and in the end they’d see who finished first—whoever finished last would pay for the next takeout meal.

Wen Yu didn’t always win, because he’d once pulled the stunt of starting the questions an hour after the timer began.

Miraculously, no matter when he started, he could always finish the exam paper before Fu Yuhan’s timer went off—although in overly rushed situations, his accuracy rate might be somewhat lower.

At 45 minutes, Fu Yuhan gave a low reminder. Wen Yu finally stood up, picked up his own set of questions, and started writing.

Self-reviewing had one drawback: no one to grade the work. Fortunately, they could find answers to the real exam questions online. After the two finished their papers and checked the answers, they discussed things with each other. Only after understanding everything did they start arranging dinner.

One week passed quickly in a sea of questions.

Their exam rooms were far apart. That morning, both Chen Feifan and his boyfriend got up very early, planning to each drive a car to take the two examinees to school.

The sun was brilliant that day.

Just before getting in the car, Fu Yuhan turned back to look, happening to meet Wen Yu’s gaze looking over.

The corners of its lips curved slightly as he faced the morning sun and said: “Study god, how about bringing back a top scorer title?”

“Hard to say, depends on luck.” Wen Yu said.

In something like the college entrance exam, every single point was a battle.

“Did you bring the lucky star?”

“Mm.” Wen Yu patted his collar.

There, under the simple school uniform collar, a black cord with half its length showing was pressed against his chest.

“Stop being lovey-dovey, you’re about to be late.” Chen Feifan glanced at the time and urged them on.

“…See you tonight.” Fu Yuhan said as he climbed into Brother Lu’s car.

Wen Yu rolled his eyes at Da-ge and got in the passenger seat: “I think you’re just throwing a tantrum because you woke up early, aren’t you?”

“Yes, so what?” Chen Feifan snorted. “For you two little bastards, Old Lu and I didn’t do anything last night!”

Wen Yu rolled his eyes: “You say that like anyone did…”

“I don’t have to take an exam!” Chen Feifan cursed.

After the car got on the elevated highway, he suddenly caught on: “Hey, you two haven’t ‘gone to home base’ yet, have you?”

“…Yeah.”

“Fuck.” Chen Feifan started laughing right there.

When the driver laughed, the car became unstable. Wen Yu twitched his lips and said: “Be careful.”

“Anyway, after the college entrance exam ends, you won’t need to worry about it anymore.” he added.

That said, there were really quite a few real-world constraints.

The two days of the college entrance exam passed quickly, and they soon received greeting calls from friends from all walks of life.

Some classmates arranged farewell dinners, some made plans to return to school to see teachers, and there were even distant aunts and uncles they hadn’t contacted in years who somehow appeared, popping up one after another like bamboo shoots after rain.

The period after the college entrance exam was indeed the peak time for returning to school. If they were going to school, living at home seemed more convenient.

Blue Encounter was located on the city’s bar street, and the clientele was rather special. Honestly, if the two of them wanted to go downstairs late at night to buy something, it wasn’t very feasible. So Wen Yu was considering whether they should go home and check things out.

“What if you run into your dad?” Fu Yuhan asked.

“Then we’ll see how it goes and come back.” Wen Yu said, “Let’s not bring daily necessities for now. There are new ones at home anyway. Let’s go back and stay for two nights to test things out.”

“Okay.” Fu Yuhan was fine either way.

Chen Feifan was somewhat surprised to hear they were leaving: “You’re going home already? We haven’t even held a celebration party for Xiao Qi yet.”

“Going back to stay for two days to see how things are.” Wen Yu’s eyes rolled. “The celebration can wait until after the scores come out.”

Chen Feifan glanced at him, and he looked back.

“Oh—” Chen Feifan understood. “Then go ahead, I won’t see you off.”

Fu Yuhan: “…”

They didn’t take anything with them and hailed a low-key black car to go home.

Getting out at the residential complex entrance, Wen Yu first looked around, and after confirming there were no familiar vehicles, he lifted his chin: “You go back first.”

“Where are you going?” Fu Yuhan watched his back as he walked in another direction.

“To buy something.” Wen Yu turned back and smiled at him. “You don’t understand why I insisted on coming back?”

Why?

Probably to do someone.

Fu Yuhan sighed, shook his head, and walked into the complex first.

Good thing he had brought his keys.
