OWSG [K-B] Chapter 1

On Transmigration

“I really want to transmigrate.”

Yun Ying: “Oh.”

“I really want to transmigrate!”

Yun Ying: “Oh.”

“My dear friend, give me some reaction, will you?!”

Yun Ying sipped her milk tea and mumbled, “Good luck.”

——————————————————————————————————————————

Something about this felt wrong.

Yun Ying thought.

She bent down to pick up a coin—and in that instant, her clothes transformed into a black silk gown. A mysterious sunflower sigil appeared on her arm. On top of that, a massive black brimmed hat blocked her vision, turning the world into a blur.

A medieval witch outfit?

Yun Ying removed the hat blocking her eyes and looked around. She had to admit one thing:

She had transmigrated.

She stood inside a dilapidated stone room. Old wooden shelves creaked, threatening to collapse. The air was heavy with rot and dampness. Outside, darkness stretched endlessly, flickering lights turning the room’s atmosphere terrifying.

An ancient, neglected stone chamber.

Bang!

A shelf collapsed at her feet.

Yun Ying stepped back quickly.

Alright. Now it’s not just old and messy—it’s downright hazardous.

So… what exactly was going on?

Ding!

A faint electric sound cut through the air. After a brief distortion, a clear voice formed. Deep blue characters appeared in midair.

[Honorable Miss Yun Ying, welcome to the Demon King’s City: Crimson Cliff.]
[You have inherited the legacy of your great-great-great-great-great-grandmother, the “Daystar Witch,” once a prosperous town.]

[Manage your town. Expand houses. Pave roads. Build public facilities to make your town shine across the continent.]

Yun Ying: “……”

Who would’ve thought that one day “great-great-great-great-great-grandmother” and “witch” would appear in the same sentence?

Ancestor, you were so trendy you probably couldn’t relate to your peers at all.

[The world is in chaos. As the only beacon within it—the Ashen Witch—you shall guide the lost lambs toward the Abyss…]

Seeing Yun Ying’s odd expression and her hand already on the doorknob, ready to bolt, the system quickly simplified its lines:

[You choked while eating black pearls, but don’t worry! After completing your tasks, we can send you back! This will not affect your life!!!]

Yun Ying touched her throat and felt it a little stuck. She cleared it, retracted the leg she had ready to flee, and said:

“Pleasure doing business.”

The system let out a sigh of relief and unfolded a dark-blue transparent interface filled with data.

[Your Town: Demon King’s City — Crimson Cliff]
[Town Level: 1 (0/100)]

Identity: Ashen Witch
Town Agent: Demon King
Current Points: 100
Current Achievements: Locked

[Note: Upon reaching Town Level 100, you may leave this world.]

“Town agent?”

An heir returns, only to discover the estate is already someone else’s. After lying low for a while, she’s back to reclaim her inheritance…

Coming soon: “The Heirs: The Returnee’s Property Reclamation War”…
Wrong genre.

Yun Ying pushed open the door. Outside stretched a pitch-black wasteland, arm’s length could barely be seen. One thing became clear:

There was nothing in this Demon King’s City worth fighting over.

This so-called inheritance over barren land, a decrepit house, and ruins… feels more like exile than legacy.

The system lit up a prompt.

[Your Town Area: One crude stone house]
[Your town has no outstanding features. Please draw your first item from the Wishing Pool to improve your living conditions.]

The Wishing Pool lit up. Yun Ying glanced at it. The “Draw Once” and “Draw Ten Times” buttons flashed like crazy.

Yun Ying: A non-luckster’s suffering pool?

[Current Points: 100]

She clicked “Draw Ten Times.”, only to see a message:
“Insufficient balance. Please earn more points through future tasks.”

Yun Ying: Oh. 100 points per draw.

Minimalist trial version.

After mentally cursing the stingy capitalists, Yun Ying clicked [Draw Once].

Her points instantly dropped to zero.

The moment she pressed the button, the star-filled sky flowing within the Wishing Pool abruptly froze. Immediately after, the sea of stars began to drift along a reverse-temporal rotation, finally converging into a single point.

A chubby blue star went plop as it fell to the ground, rolling solidly twice, getting dust all over itself inside and out.

Yun Ying: That’s… surprisingly down-to-earth.

What is this thing?

She bent down and picked up the overly round-looking star, wiped the dust off it—and in the next instant, the chubby star vanished, replaced by something in her hands…

A bright red quilt with northeastern-style floral patterns.

The system chimed.

【Congratulations! You have obtained: High-End Custom Handmade Blanket ×1】

【High-End Custom Handmade Blanket】

【Lovingly sewn by an enthusiastic auntie, bringing you a touch of heartfelt warmth in the bitter cold】

Vivid floral patterns.

Still carrying the scent of sunshine.

Seemingly capable of becoming the only comfort in winter.

Yun Ying: “……”

But it’s summer right now.

After a moment of silence, she chose to face the system head-on.

“Just kill me directly.”

System: “……”

Under the system’s behind-the-scenes manipulation, the northeastern big quilt was successfully swapped out for a northeastern floral thin blanket, finally becoming the sole comfort of summer.

🎵 “Call me your true confidant—when others doubt you, I’ll stand up for you…”
(Song: Friendship Comes First)

With the system playing music, Yun Ying completely dismantled the collapsed wooden rack. She then grabbed two handy stones from the doorway and started knocking and hammering at the planks.

“Grrr—”

Night deepened, and the wind outside grew stronger. She tossed all the extra parts out, brushed most of the dust off herself, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and looked at the results inside the room.

There was now a simple wooden bed.

After hand-crafting the furniture, Yun Ying spread the thin blanket over the newly assembled bed and sat down to test the height.

“Perfect fit,” she said with satisfaction.

At least she wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor tonight.

“Ding-dong!”

【Your town is now thriving and prosperous! You may officially begin accommodating residents!】

Yun Ying froze mid-dust-pat: “……”

You call a town with only one bed “thriving and prosperous”?

What, the residents sleep on the bed while I sleep on the floor?

The system fell silent like a chicken, quietly turning up the volume of Friendship Comes First instead.

Sensing its host’s expression, the system trembled with fear—unfortunately, its proud code clearly had plans of its own.

【Detected insufficient room space. Construction task unlocked.

Clearing abandoned bricks progress: 0%

Reward points: 100】

The stone chamber door burst open, letting in dust-laden air and insect chirps, accompanied by faint crunching sounds—something unknown stepping on dry leaves.

Yun Ying tugged at the door, but it was as if glued in place, completely immovable.

Alright then—looks like she had to go out.

She picked up the oil lamp inside the house and headed toward the rubble pile the system had indicated not far away.

Outside was pitch-black. Relying on a palm-sized oil lamp for illumination was pushing it a bit, but after her eyes adjusted, Yun Ying stood at the doorway and looked around.

Aside from this stone house, there didn’t seem to be any intact buildings left in the wasteland. In the distance, continuous piles of broken bricks and tiles stretched out, confirming the system’s claim of a “once-prosperous town.”

But in the dead of night like this, who would be moving in? Who was she even clearing space for?

Foolish code, utterly illogical. Still, a 100-point task suited its difficulty. Upon reaching the task location—behind the stone house—she found scattered bricks lying on bare ground and quickly completed the task.

【Congratulations, task completed】

【Second-stage task unlocked:

Construct a sturdy house: 0%

Reward points: 900】

Yun Ying: “……”

The first task is simple addition.

The second task is building an airplane.

What, I’m supposed to hand-build a house now?

She laughed in disbelief. “Isn’t there a town agent? Where’s the Demon King? Send him over to move bricks.”

The system replied weakly:

【Ahem… the one playing with mud beside you is him.】

Beside her?

She hadn’t sensed anything at all.

The darkness blocked her vision, gradually amplifying fear. Yun Ying paused, hesitated for a moment, then shone the light toward where the system indicated.

Behind the stone house, in a corner piled high with abandoned bricks, stones of all sizes were stacked together, hidden in the gloom. Under the faint light, a swaying shadow shifted along with it.

It was big.

Her palm grew damp with sweat.

Even crouched and huddled in the corner, its size was unmistakable. Like a giant bat lurking in the darkness, clinging to the folds of the rock wall, blending seamlessly with the gloom—its boundary with the shadows indistinguishable.

As the oil lamp drew closer, Yun Ying gradually made out his features.

“You…”

The unknown fear came to a halt.

Most of the person before her was swallowed by shadow. The exposed face and wrists were unnaturally pale, pale enough that the faint blue veins beneath the skin were visible.

He crouched there, studying the soil. Sensing the light, he suddenly lifted his gaze. Long lashes trembled, and silver-gray eyes—still clouded with confusion—stared blankly at Yun Ying. But within moments, mist gathered in his eyes, and the silvery pupils were coated with a watery glaze.

“Mm…”

Apparently unaccustomed to the light, he shrank back, trying to hide himself deeper in the darkness.

Silver eyes. Silver hair.

Yun Ying’s gaze lifted to the terrifying curved horns hidden among his hair.

Jet-black spiral patterns coiled along the thick horns, curving powerfully backward from the tips, their cold, hard edges glinting faintly even in the dark.

Grace and monstrosity—two utterly contradictory auras coexisted in him, creating an intense sense of dissonance. Like moonlight flickering across a lake’s surface—fragile, on the brink of collapse, yet irresistibly seductive.

The system promptly displayed an introduction.

【You have encountered: “The Mentally Unstable Demon King”】

【Destruction and obsession, arrogance and solitude. As the supreme ruler of the Crimson Cliff, he was once a great being before whom even the Abyss would temper its edges. However, after accidentally coming into contact with an “Unnameable Chaotic Entity,” the Demon King’s mind has fallen into an unknown dimension】

【Now, perhaps only an equally great Lady Witch of Ashes can save everything】

Yun Ying’s heart was already as calm as still water. “I understand.”

The system quietly started playing ‘Friendship Comes First’ again.

“Gurgle…”

A stomach growl came from the shadows. The Demon King’s body suddenly stiffened. The ear exposed to the air flushed red at once, the color spreading down his neck, standing out starkly against his pale skin.

Yun Ying’s gaze flickered.

“Alright,” she said, extending a hand toward the Demon King. “There’s a way you might be able to eat your fill. Are you in?”

The Demon King was drawn in, looked up at her, then nodded hesitantly.

“Good child.” Yun Ying patted his shoulder, straightened up, and pointed to the empty plot behind them.
“Come on—build yourself a sturdy house.”

“……”

“…Respected Demon King, Your Highness.”

【Congratulations! You have completed the task】
【Current points: 900】

Yun Ying: “……”

Overwhelming shadows spread from beneath the Demon King’s feet. Countless inky tendrils slithered like black snakes through the dark cracks between bricks.

They rolled up bricks, stacking them into neat rows, filling the gaps with scavenged mud. Before long, a bright and solid brick house stood upon the empty ground.

The Demon King lifted his head and looked at her expectantly.

Yun Ying blinked.

A natural-born master builder, huh?

The slick, icy tendrils moved uncontrollably, repairing every corner of the new house—aligning each brick, smoothing every seam of mortar, wiping away every speck of dust.

The Demon King continued to look at her expectantly.

“You…”

Yun Ying finally spoke. “You all did very well.”

The moment her words fell, all the wandering shadow tendrils froze—then turned irreversibly translucent pink, writhing shyly before retreating beneath the Demon King’s feet.

The Demon King finally spoke, cheeks burning red. “Thank you.”

“I will… work hard at building houses…”

His voice grew softer and softer. Yun Ying didn’t catch the last part and leaned closer. “What did you say?”

“Please…”

He took several deep breaths, finally mustering his courage. Tears hung in his eyes, trembling on the verge of falling. “…don’t eat me.”

“Oh.” Yun Ying replied casually, “I like eating the ones who cry.”

The Demon King’s eyes widened instantly. His lips trembled, and he forcibly held the tears back.

Yun Ying added, “I eat the ones who don’t cry too.”

Demon King: “!”
