MHWFYYTMDF Chapter10

Twisted Waist

He woke up with a pounding headache, his entire body aching so badly it felt as though it was falling apart.

Song Li lay prone on the pillow, recalling what had happened last night bit by bit.

He had gone out drinking with the other teachers, got drunk, and been scooped back home by He Muyan.

He Muyan had given him a bath and accompanied him in conversation, his movements and voice incredibly gentle.

And then, the two of them had done it again.

Certain actions and sounds from the process were still vividly etched in his mind.

What am I to you?

You are my husband.

What should you call me?

Laogong.

Laogong, Laogong, Laogong…

Heavens! Song Li wailed in a hoarse voice, wishing someone would just give him a block of tofu so he could end it all right here.

This was way too shameful.

How on earth was he supposed to face He Muyan now?

Just as this thought crossed his mind, he heard a sharp click from the bedroom door.

Song Li jolted. No way, speak of the devil and he appears?

But what was he supposed to do when he hadn’t prepared himself yet? How could he face He Muyan? It was simply too embarrassing.

Hearing the footsteps drawing closer and closer to him, Song Li grew incredibly nervous. The moment he panicked, his brain was short-circuited, and when his brain short-circuited, he couldn’t help but do something highly childish:

Pretend to be asleep.

The footsteps finally came to a halt right by his bedside. For a good while, there wasn’t another sound. Just when Song Li assumed He Muyan saw him sleeping and didn’t plan on disturbing him, he suddenly felt a wave of faint breath near his ear; it was warm and damp, almost drilling straight into his ear canal.

In an instant, his hair stood on end, and he broke out in goosebumps all over.

He Muyan’s voice rang out above his head, “If you can’t sleep anymore, don’t force yourself. Holding it in like this will only make your head hurt more.”

Song Li was stunned. He was exposed just like that?

Was his acting while pretending to sleep really that terrible?

Sighing internally, he turned his body over and first peeked open a single eye.

He Muyan was standing right by the bed while looking down at him expressionlessly.

How awkward.

Song Li curled his toes against the bedsheets beneath the blanket, feeling his face burning up.

“M-Morning.”

“It’s not early anymore. It’s almost ten o’clock.”

Song Li widened his eyes, “I slept for that long?”

He Muyan nodded, “You had a hangover.”

As he spoke, he bent down and rested his palm against Song Li’s forehead, “Does your head still hurt?”

Song Li blinked. From this angle, he could see He Muyan’s incredibly long eyelashes.

“A-A little bit.”

In truth, compared to his headache, his waist felt much more uncomfortable right now. But he was too embarrassed to say it out loud.

He Muyan withdrew his hand and sat down on the edge of the bed.

He sat down! Song Li panicked slightly, twisting his fingers into the sheets, filled with a sudden, baseless nervousness, “Don’t… don’t you have to go to work?”

“It’s the weekend today.”

Oh, right. Song Li realized belatedly. It was precisely because today was the weekend that the other teachers had dared to go out and drink so recklessly yesterday.

Neither of them spoke again, and for a moment, the atmosphere grew rather awkward. Song Li didn’t know what He Muyan was trying to do, was he purposely staying here just to make him feel awkward?

Fortunately, He Muyan didn’t let that atmosphere linger for too long. He broke the silence first, “The dishes in the refrigerator… I saw them.”

So, he wanted to talk about that. Song Li lowered his eyes, his mood dipping slightly.

Seeing that he remained quiet, He Muyan continued, “My work is usually very busy. Back when I was living alone, I would just throw my three meals together carelessly; it wasn’t unheard of for me to only eat one meal a day. Because of that, I’ve never had the experience of someone preparing a meal and waiting for me to come home and eat it.”

“Song Li,” He Muyan called his name softly again. “You said you wanted me to accompany you for breakfast. Although it wastes a bit of time, I actually don’t dislike it. As for dinner, my work is heavy, so it might fundamentally be impossible most days, but if I have the time, I will try my best to finish work early and come back.”

“The night before last, it was a lack of consideration on my part. I should say sorry to you.”

Listening to him speak sentence by sentence in a gentle, measured voice without any superfluous emotion, Song Li felt his own heart slowly warming up bit by bit. Turning onto his side, he gripped the blanket tightly, completely unable to press down the upward curve of his lips.

He Muyan was truly so gentle.

It was a clumsy sort of gentleness.

He Muyan was not a man of many words. The things he had just said were likely the most he had spoken at one time over the past month outside of work.

He didn’t know if Song Li had truly taken them to heart, but he had hopefully communicated his thoughts clearly.

The person on the bed was facing away from him with a corner of the blanket slipping down to reveal a lean, bare shoulder.

He couldn’t help but remember how he kissed the beautiful shoulder blades on that back last night while making him cry several times.

When Song Li cried, it was soft and sweet, calling out to him over and over; calling his name, calling him Laogong…

He Muyan sat up straight, then stood up and cleared his throat softly.

“I still have some work to handle. If your head still hurts, sleep a bit longer.”

With that, he left the bedroom immediately.

Song Li lay in the same position for a while, the grin on his face spreading wider and wider until it practically reached his ears.

He Muyan had said so much to him just now!

This was probably the longest conversation they had ever shared since they met.

He even said he would accompany him for breakfast and dinner.

And he had genuinely apologized to him.

Did this mean He Muyan wasn’t actually as cold as he appeared on the surface, and that this marriage wasn’t just a one-sided, unrequited effort on his part?

What should he do? He was so happy.

He really wanted to roll around on the bed.

Since no one was around anyway, he simply rolled over.

Unleashing his true nature, Song Li wrapped himself in the blanket and started rolling across the bed like a lunatic.

As he rolled, he even added his own silent, enthusiastic squeals of joy in his head.

As the old saying goes, extreme joy turns to sorrow. After two rolls, a sudden pop echoed, and a piercing flash of agony shot straight to his brain. He let out a very real, loud groan right then and there.

He had sprained his waist.

Damn it, that hurts like hell.

Biting the pillow, his body trembled as he groaned for a long while. Only after the wave of sharp pain subsided a bit did he dare lift the blanket to check on himself. The moment he flipped it open, he froze.

After washing him up last night, He Muyan hadn’t even put pajamas on him. Right now, he was completely bare, wearing nothing but a pair of briefs.

Just how much did He Muyan dislike those tank tops and boxer shorts of his that he wouldn’t even put them on him?

Right now, he wasn’t in the mood to feel embarrassed about being bare; his waist hurt terribly, and moving just now seemed to have made it even worse. Now, even the slightest twist brought a piercing pain, leaving him no choice but to maintain this position with his rear stuck in the air to get a temporary reprieve.

It was at this exact moment that he had to helplessly admit a fact he had always been reluctant to acknowledge: he was getting older, and this old waist of his truly couldn’t handle being tossed around anymore.

After easing up for a minute or two, he began bracing his waist to try and slowly turn over. As a result, the moment he rolled, there was another sharp pop. This time, he really couldn’t hold it in, and tears instantly shot out of his eyes.

Just as his poor old waist gave a protesting pop, the bedroom door behind him opened as well. Stepping inside, He Muyan was greeted by the scene before him and froze in place for several seconds, stunned.

But he was He Muyan after all; it was only a matter of a few seconds before his expression returned to normal, and he closed the door as he walked inside.

“I forgot about adding each other on WeChat just now, so I came back to remind you.”

Song Li was still sticking his rear up with his face covered in tears.

He felt as though four massive words were definitely plastered across his body right now: Social Death Scene.

“Sure, let’s add each other in a bit.”

“En. I don’t check WeChat often though, so if it’s an emergency, you can call my phone.”

“I got it. I’ll do my best not to disturb your work.”

“En.”

The conversation ended there, yet He Muyan still showed no intention of leaving. He sized up Song Li’s current pose once more and asked, “Are you doing morning exercises?”

You’re only asking about it now?!

As expected of you, President He.

Song Li was trembling all over, looking back at him with tearful eyes, “I sprained my waist.”

He Muyan was taken aback, immediately knitting his brows, “Is it serious? Can you still move?”

With tears welling in his eyes, Song Li looked pitiful, “I can’t move. It hurts like hell.”

He Muyan bent down, his tone carrying a hint of blame, “Why didn’t you say so earlier?”

You didn’t exactly give me a chance to speak, Sir.

A large hand pressed against his lower abdomen, supporting most of his body weight for him, “Be careful. Try to slowly turn over.”

Song Li nodded, grabbing his hand and turning his body over with exceptional difficulty.

He Muyan supported his lower back, helping him lie flat on the bed as gently as possible.

Having outside help was indeed far less exhausting than twisting around blindly on his own. Song Li let out a breath of relief, but realizing he was still lying there completely bare in front of him, he self-consciously reached out to tug at the blanket.

He Muyan thoughtfully pulled the blanket over to cover him up properly.

With a flushed face, Song Li murmured a soft, “Thank you.”

He Muyan looked down at him, his tone none too pleasant, “You couldn’t call for me when you sprained your waist?”

“Ah?” Song Li hadn’t expected to get scolded, replying in a loss for words, “It… it was too awkward. It’s so embarrassing.”

Even now, just thinking about being caught red-handed with his rear stuck up in the air made his scalp tingle with intense shame.

“I am your husband. What side of you have I not seen? What is there to be embarrassed about?”

Well, that’s true though.

Peeking at He Muyan’s sour expression, Song Li lowered his voice even further, “I’m sorry.”

He Muyan’s expression softened slightly, “Will you dare do it again next time?”

“I won’t dare.”

Good grief, if this happened a second time, he might as well just be killed on the spot.

He Muyan sat down by the edge of the bed and wiped away a tiny tear from the corner of his eye with his finger, “Does it still hurt?”

His voice was damnably gentle.

Song Li was most vulnerable when He Muyan treated him gently. It always caused a shortage of blood flow to his brain, leading straight to a complete malfunction of his verbal nervous system.

He blurted out, “It hurts to death.”

His voice even carried a sweet, whiny lilt to it.

See? The preliminary chaos had already begun.

He Muyan wasn’t put off by his almost coquettish tone. In fact, the gaze he leveled at him even carried a trace of apology.

“Last night’s situation was somewhat exceptional. In the future, I will try my best to be gentler.”

Huh?

It took Song Li a moment to process what he was saying. His face instantly exploded into a fiery red, and he stammered frantically, “No, no, no, no! My waist problem isn’t because of that matter from last night! It was just me being careless on the bed just now, that’s why it got sprained.”

“Is that so?” He Muyan looked at him, his expression completely puzzled, “What were you doing on the bed just now?”

“I…”

Could he please choose not to say?
