ISWMQ – Chapter 124

But Rong Guang didn’t want to try on a few more outfits, nor was she very eager to “know.”

So she played dumb and snuggled deeper into Chu Feiliang’s arms.

In her past life, Chu Feiliang had always enjoyed dressing up the things she liked.

The word “things” had a very broad scope.

It could be people, animals, or even a sofa, a table, or an inconspicuous pillar in the room.

Take Zaixiang, for example.

Although Zaixiang was a pure black Labrador, his mother couldn’t resist fussing over him. While hair dye wasn’t very effective on Zaixiang, there were other things she could do.

For instance, a well-behaved, cute, and innocent boy like Zaixiang would be dressed up by Chu Feiliang all day like a maneki-neko.

A big red jacket, with two Chinese knots pinned to his ears, dangling down just like the tassels on a Qing dynasty princess’s headdress.

Back then, Rong Guang never would have imagined that this fate would befall her.

She dazedly bumped her head against Chu Feiliang’s chest and sighed for her own potentially bleak and sunless future.

However, Rong Guang didn’t struggle for too long.

Claiming she hadn’t seen that closet full of clothes would only work for a day or two. After all, the closet was right there, unmoving, and now that she had moved into Chu Feiliang’s house, she couldn’t just pretend to be blind.

So Rong Guang started leaving early and returning late, trying not to give Chu Feiliang any opportunity to make her wear those rather dreadful clothes.

Fortunately, Chu Feiliang didn’t seem to be in a hurry to fuss over her. Rong Guang agonized over this for two days before she couldn’t hold back anymore and humbly went to ask.

Chu Feiliang was quite amused when she asked.

At that moment, she was reviewing an interview script.

After The Eldest Princess wrapped, Rong Guang had to balance her studies and training. Plus, she needed time to settle down and learn, so she didn’t have any of these miscellaneous matters.

But she was different.

Although wrapping up meant she could rest, invitations for shows still came flooding in. After all, she had been on set for half a year and needed to make some public appearances.

Just as she was getting bored reading it, Rong Guang came over.

With that flickering expression and tentative tone, how could Chu Feiliang not know what was on her mind?

She opened her arms and, sitting in the chair, said, “Come, give your sister a hug.”

Rong Guang gauged the position of the armchair and snuggled in with Chu Feiliang.

It wasn’t just Chu Feiliang who liked to hug her; she liked to hug Chu Feiliang too.

The armchair was plush. After both of them had settled in, they could feel the weight from each other’s bodies, but it was within a bearable range. In fact, it felt very grounding and reassuring.

Chu Feiliang smilingly answered Rong Guang’s earlier question.

Rong Guang had just asked her what she planned to do with all those clothes.

Chu Feiliang said softly, “You can’t be too hasty in unwrapping a gift. You have to savor it slowly for the aftertaste to be sweeter. If I’m too eager now, what will I do when we’re filming The Lover and I’ve lost my sense of anticipation because my hands are too practiced?”

Rong Guang blushed a little, suddenly reminded of a very popular game.

She couldn’t help but smile and say, “Just don’t turn The Lover into Guangguang’s Dress-Up Game in the end…”

With the clothes in that closet, even if she wore one outfit a day, she could go for a month or so.

If they were all really brought into the movie, Zhang Nanchuan would probably be the first to throw a fit.

“It won’t come to that,” Chu Feiliang said with a smile, resting her chin on her hand. “A few pieces at most—I’ll pick the few I’m most satisfied with.”

So Rong Guang began to carefully recall if there was anything… rather… strange among those clothes.

The conclusion was no.

It seemed Chu Feiliang didn’t have any strange hobbies, which made Rong Guang breathe a sigh of relief, more or less.

The following days were busy but happy. Rong Guang’s life was a three-point line, shuttling between school, the company, and home. Occasionally, a side quest would pop up—visiting Chacha at her school.

Chacha seemed to be adapting quite well to school life, much better than Rong Guang had initially thought.

At first, she worried that Chacha wouldn’t be able to fit in and would look pitifully lonely between classes. But she discovered that both the boys and girls in Chacha’s class seemed to look out for her—the advantage of being the youngest was on full display.

Watching Chacha become more and more cheerful and able to talk to strangers, Rong Guang felt a sense of pride welling up inside her.

School had been in session for a while now, and Chacha had passed her monthly exam. Although her habit of favoring certain subjects hadn’t been completely corrected, at least her total score was decent—at least over 450. This way, there was hope for her to get into university.

So Rong Guang decided to reward Chacha with a nice meal.

On the way, Chacha held Rong Guang’s hand and asked her, “Sister Guangguang, when you film The Lover, can I still go with you?”

Rong Guang had planned to let Chacha come along.

But they had to set some ground rules first.

“Can you keep your grades from slipping?” Rong Guang asked in return.

Chacha’s eyes lit up. “I can! Not only will they not slip, but I can also get good scores!”

To prevent her grades from falling later, she had deliberately changed correct answers to wrong ones on her recent exams!

This way, her scores would only go up, never down!

Chacha thought she was simply brilliant.

She even wrote the answers in pencil first before filling in the final answers with a pen.

After erasing them, not a single trace could be found. When Rong Guang checked her test papers, she wouldn’t suspect a thing!

Rong Guang patted Chacha’s head and ordered her a kid’s meal.

During the meal, Rong Guang inadvertently looked up and saw a familiar figure.

It was her mother.

Her face was pale, her steps were slow, and her lips were completely colorless. She looked to be in very poor condition.

Rong Guang frowned.

Chacha followed Rong Guang’s gaze and saw her too.

Chacha thought for a moment, placed her hands on her knees, and said softly, “Sister Guangguang, I have something to tell you.”

Rong Guang turned back, lowered her eyes, and said, “Go ahead.”

Whatever happened with her mom, it had nothing to do with her.

Rong Guang would bear the responsibilities that were hers, but for those that weren’t, she would absolutely not meddle again.

Chacha said, “Auntie seems to be going to the hospital for surgery today.”

Rong Guang was taken aback. “How do you know?”

“That uncle’s niece told me.” Chacha mumbled a bit, repeating what she had been told. “She said Auntie’s baby had no heartbeat. They went to the hospital to try and save it for a while, but there was still no response. Any further delay would affect the mother, so the doctor told her to have the surgery.”

Now Rong Guang roughly understood why.

She glanced outside again. Xie Xian looked as if she had already finished the surgery. Her face was deathly pale, and after walking a short distance, she couldn’t go on and sat down on a nearby chair.

A young couple leaving the restaurant saw Xie Xian’s condition and went up to ask her something. After being refused, they left together.

The moment Xie Xian raised her head, her gaze met Rong Guang’s.

Rong Guang was wearing a hat and a mask. She knew Xie Xian had seen her, but she also knew that Xie Xian definitely wouldn’t recognize her.

She calmly withdrew her gaze as she continued to listen to Chacha’s voice, “Li Mingming also said her uncle is not a good person, that he’s a disgusting pervert and a molester…”

This time, Rong Guang froze. A wave of nausea rose up inside her. She said, “Li Mingming? Is this person your classmate?”

Chacha nodded, glanced at Rong Guang, and grabbed her hand from across the table. “She’s my roommate. Auntie’s boyfriend is her uncle. He came to give her money once. I saw it, so she told me.”

Rong Guang’s brows furrowed tightly. She looked at Chacha and said, “I’ll go find your head teacher later. Chacha, be good. We’re not living at the dorm anymore. You’re coming home with your sister.”

Chacha nodded, her pure eyes reflecting Rong Guang’s image.

She tilted her head, picked up the hamburger on the table that Rong Guang usually didn’t let her eat much of, and carefully took another bite, leaving a crescent-shaped tooth mark.

Then Chacha said, “Okay. Are we going back to Sister Chu’s house? Will I have my own room? Can I bring friends over?”

Rong Guang hadn’t thought about so many questions yet…

Chacha’s barrage of questions gave her a bit of a headache.

Rong Guang patted her forehead, looked at Chacha, and after a moment’s thought, said, “Tonight, you’ll come back with me first. I’ll go ask your Sister Chu.”

Chacha kicked her legs, her face full of happiness. “Okay.”

The decision was a bit hasty.

But Rong Guang truly never expected that Jiang Lianming would actually appear near Chacha’s school and even know her classmate.

Jiang Lianming was a man with a sordid history, and Rong Guang was unwilling to let Chacha face even the slightest risk of an accident.

To put it bluntly, Chacha’s situation was already different from that of a normal child. Although she was highly vigilant, anyone with a bit of cunning could easily deceive her.

Rong Guang was unwilling to take the risk. She would rather force Chacha to give up the friendships she had worked so hard to build and change schools than leave her to live alone at the school dormitory.

Chu Feiliang was a little surprised when she heard Rong Guang say she wanted Chacha to move in.

She smiled and looked at Rong Guang, saying, “I was just wondering when I should bring this up with you. Come, Teacher Rong, let’s discuss the room planning. It’s a three-story house, after all. With so many empty rooms, we can’t just let them all collect dust, can we? We have to make the best use of everything.”

Rong Guang froze, a sudden warmth surging in her heart. She said, “Sister, you mean…”

“Haven’t I made it obvious enough?” Chu Feiliang looked at her, propping her chin on her hand, and sighed with a touch of melancholy. “If you’re going to be so distant with me, I’ll be hurt. Since you’ve moved in, you should just think of yourself as the other mistress of this house. We’re together now. Meeting parents, hosting friends, having relatives over for short stays—these are all things we need to plan for in the future. Haven’t you considered any of this before?”

Rong Guang opened her mouth.

She really… hadn’t thought that far ahead.

Chu Feiliang wore an expression that said, “Just as I thought. I knew you didn’t really have me in your heart.”
