ISWMQ – Chapter 116

It was so dark outside the base that when Chu Feiliang stepped out, she was almost completely swallowed by the shadows. The only visible part of her face was her chin, faintly illuminated by the light from the front-facing camera.

After saying her piece, Rong Guang stared nervously at Chu Feiliang, terrified she would say something to deny her request to stay the night.

For a moment, the only sounds filling Rong Guang’s bedroom were Chu Feiliang’s footsteps, sometimes clear, sometimes faint, and the only sight was her elusive chin, which seemed to glow under the light of the front-facing camera.

“If you put it that way…” After a long pause, Chu Feiliang turned into a corridor flickering with dim yellow lights. Her voice became clearer, and the visible corner of her mouth curved up. “I might not be willing to let you go.”

Rong Guang saw it, and her eyes instantly sparkled. She boldly said, “It’s okay if you don’t let me go.”

The day after tomorrow was the weekend anyway. Rong Guang had already requested the day off, planning to skip class to visit Chu Feiliang.

By this calculation, she could stay on set for a full three days.

Three days. They could see each other morning and night… For them, currently separated in two different cities, this was already the best possible outcome.

Chu Feiliang returned to the hotel.

The lights inside the hotel were always on. The elevator lobby had downlights in the corridor, one light for every step, which was infinitely better than outside. Looking at Chu Feiliang’s face, which seemed to have a built-in beauty filter, Rong Guang felt a sense of pleasant calm settle over her.

Chu Feiliang nodded and finally said, “Alright, then come.”

Rong Guang… mustered her courage and silently said to herself, “Then I’ll come.”

That night, Chu Feiliang and Rong Guang didn’t turn off the video call, leaving it open beside them.

It was incredibly silly, but they really did it.

In the end, Rong Guang couldn’t hold on any longer and drifted off to sleep, only remembering that just before she fell asleep, Chu Feiliang seemed to be watching her with a particularly gentle expression.

That gaze was gentle and lingering, making one unable to resist sinking into it. Even her dreams felt blissful.

—And so, the next day, Chu Feiliang went out with panda eyes.

Her appearance was quite conspicuous, and many who saw her couldn’t help but stare.

When Zhang Nanchuan saw Chu Feiliang’s state, his mouth hung open in shock for a long time. After a moment’s pause, he walked over to her, looked at her face, and asked cautiously, “What happened last night? Insomnia? Didn’t get any sleep?”

He had observed her carefully. Chu Feiliang’s dark circles were indeed obvious, and her face screamed ‘sleepy’. She looked very tired—but her spirits were surprisingly good. Not just her spirits, Chu Feiliang was practically glowing, and the smile had never left her face.

Chu Feiliang stared at Zhang Nanchuan’s shiny bald head and squinted from the sunlight’s glare.

After a moment, she grinned and said, “Rong Guang looks so cute when she sleeps.”

Question marks filled Zhang Nanchuan’s mind. “She came to visit the set? How come I didn’t see her? Where did you see her?”

Chu Feiliang glanced at him and said, “We were on a video call.” After a pause, she added, “She has a bit of a cold, so she sleeps with her mouth open, but she doesn’t snore. She has no bad habits at all.”

Zhang Nanchuan began to feel that coming over was simply asking for punishment.

Chu Feiliang continued, “She’s also very well-behaved when she sleeps, not restless at all. She stays quietly in one position, and even when she stretches, it’s gentle and delicate. Her hands move too.”

Zhang Nanchuan: “…So?”

“So.” Chu Feiliang sighed, looked at Zhang Nanchuan, and said very bluntly, “My state is terrible right now. My mind is completely filled with Rong Guang, and I’m feeling extremely unmotivated to work—can you tell?”

Zhang Nanchuan: “…”

He couldn’t really tell, but he could see Chu Feiliang’s blatant dark circles as clear as day.

However, her current state was indeed not great for filming. Zhang Nanchuan said, exasperated and amused, “You have more than three hours until your scene. Go adjust yourself—how long do you think it’ll take for them to fade?”

Chu Feiliang glanced in the mirror, thought for a moment, and said, “Forty minutes should be enough. I’ll take a nap with an eye mask. Oh, right.”

Zhang Nanchuan, who was about to turn and leave, paused again. “What is it?”

Chu Feiliang grinned at him, her smile especially brilliant. “Guangguang is coming to see me tomorrow, and she’s bringing me a bunch of gifts—is there anything you need her to bring? Nothing too heavy, too expensive, or too troublesome…”

Zhang Nanchuan looked at the script in his hand, which he had been in the middle of explaining to an actor, and thought that Chu Feiliang must have kicked him in the head for him to come over and ask for this torture.

He was a single man, did he have it easy?!

So what if she watched someone sleep all night!

He watched people sleep in front of the camera all day long!

Who couldn’t do that!

Zhang Nanchuan walked away in a huff, like an angry buffalo.

Only then did Chu Feiliang hum a little tune, cross her legs, and lie back on the chair, swinging them.

When Yan Congxue came over with a hot-compress eye mask, this was the scene she saw.

She hesitated for a moment, then handed the eye mask to Chu Feiliang and said, “Maybe it’s better not to have Rong Guang come over for the next few days?”

The eye mask was still heating up. While waiting, Chu Feiliang glanced up at Yan Congxue and said coolly, “Is there a problem?”

Yan Congxue nodded. “The internal affairs department said a lot of paparazzi have infiltrated the set. Although we’re semi-closed off, there are many local residents living nearby, and we can’t restrict their freedom of movement. If the paparazzi stay in the village for a while and get familiar with them, it’s not uncommon for them to sneak onto our set to take secret photos… When Rong Guang arrives with all her bags, no matter how you look at it, if word gets out, it won’t be good for her. She’s still in her quiet period.”

Chu Feiliang understood Yan Congxue’s underlying meaning.

Although Yan Congxue’s words were all about considering Rong Guang, her biggest worry was actually the scandal between Chu Feiliang and Rong Guang.

Chu Feiliang thought for a moment and said, “You don’t need to worry about this. I have my own plans. Having her come over is something I’ve thought about for a long time.”

Yan Congxue was taken aback. “You…?”

“I never planned on having an underground relationship with Rong Guang.” Chu Feiliang chuckled softly. When she thought of Rong Guang, a gentle light always flickered in the corners of her eyes. She said softly, “Rong Guang is with me. She might be willing to endure the injustice of being hidden from the light, but I’m not willing to let her suffer.”

Yan Congxue sighed and couldn’t help but say, “I’m just worried. Back then, you…”

“That’s long in the past.” Chu Feiliang said expressionlessly, “Those things will not happen to Rong Guang a second time.”

Yan Congxue thought for a moment and finally nodded.

After a while, Chu Feiliang chuckled, felt the temperature of the eye mask, decided it was about right, and put it on. She leaned back slowly and said with a sigh, “Besides—oh, I forgot you weren’t here then, Lulu was. During the time Lulu was here, I was running around the set like a maniac trying to get Rong Guang’s attention, making the whole crew say I was forcing her. Did you think I was just messing around?”

Yan Congxue froze.

…Although she wasn’t there at the time.

But she had heard legends of Chu Feiliang from Sister Lulu.

Her behavior was described as outrageous enough to anger both gods and men.

To this day, many people still discussed in private how a tender and vibrant little cabbage like Rong Guang had been snatched up by Chu Feiliang.

Rong Guang was so likable.

In her first month on set, she made everyone remember her name. Even those who didn’t know her personally spoke of her with friendly curiosity.

Back then, Rong Guang smiled at everyone she met and was always professional in her work. Whenever progress was delayed, even if it wasn’t her fault, she would step forward without hesitation to take responsibility.

To this day, many staff members would reminisce, saying that working with Rong Guang was the most relaxing time.

When progress was fast, it was everyone’s credit.

When progress was slow or problems arose, there was someone who would step up and take the blame.

That’s why Group A’s progress was nearly twice as fast as Group B’s, which started at the same time. The quality was also high, with fewer scenes needing to be redone.

Everyone worked together with a common purpose. Even though it was tiring, it was also joyful. They felt like they were doing meaningful work and making progress every day, full of enthusiasm.

Thinking about it this way…

Yan Congxue also sensed that something was off.

She looked at Chu Feiliang, whose hands were crossed over her abdomen, her index finger tapping rhythmically, her ankle swaying in time with her finger, looking like a leisurely old lady strolling through a flower garden. She couldn’t help but say, “You’ve been planning this since Rong Guang joined the cast?”

“Even earlier, dear.” Chu Feiliang couldn’t hold back her smile. It was a bit too wide, and her white teeth seemed to sparkle even brighter in the sunlight. “I’ve been planning it all along. The moment I saw Rong Guang’s name on the cast list, I was already waiting for her to take the bait.”

Yan Congxue muttered to herself, “But Rong Guang always said she was the one who tried everything to get into the cast to pursue you, and she was worried you’d ignore her if you found out, thinking she was too calculating…”

“That’s why, after I successfully pursued her, she’ll know to cherish me more and won’t be tricked away by some other old beast with just a few words.” Chu Feiliang, pleased with herself, couldn’t help but shake her head and say, “This is what you call intelligence.”

“No.” Yan Congxue looked at Chu Feiliang with a complicated expression and sat down dejectedly on a nearby chair to keep watch for her. “You’re just being thick-skinned.”

In other words.

Shameless.

A scheming dog.

And she had the nerve to call others who hadn’t even appeared ‘old beasts’.

What about herself?

Rong Guang was such a fresh and tender little cabbage!

And she was really snatched up just like that!
