When Chu Yi opened his eyes, he realized he was in a hospital. Uncle Wen and Shen Jin were both at his bedside. Uncle Wen’s gaze was full of tenderness, while Shen Jin looked at him with red-rimmed eyes.
Chu Yi’s pupils constricted slightly. This was the first time he had ever seen Shen Jin’s eyes so red.
In a few seconds, Chu Yi remembered that he had fainted after vomiting.
Shen Jin asked softly, “Are you feeling better? Still nauseous? Still uncomfortable?”
“What happened to me?” Chu Yi asked. Seeing Shen Jin’s red-rimmed eyes, he sensed that something serious had occurred. Recalling his recent abnormal symptoms, he wondered if there was a major problem with his health. Could he really have contracted some serious illness, just like the internet rumors suggested?
Shen Jin took his hand. “Chu Yi, you’re pregnant.”
Chu Yi froze for a few seconds before instinctively denying it. “How is that possible? The internet says pregnancy tests can be inaccurate.”
Shen Jin said earnestly, “It’s true. You really are pregnant. The doctor said the baby is already over two months old.”
After Chu Yi woke up, Dr. Meng drew blood for further tests. The results remained unchanged: Chu Yi was indeed pregnant.
Chu Yi froze, stunned. Could the pregnancy test results actually be true? Was he really pregnant?
Shen Jin asked, “You already knew? Why didn’t you tell me?”
If he had known, he would have taken much better care of Chu Yi, ensuring today’s incident—Chu Yi fainting—would never have happened. When Chu Yi collapsed, Shen Jin had experienced a level of worry and fear he had never felt before.
Seeing Shen Jin’s grave expression, Chu Yi pursed his lips and explained, “I only found out this afternoon. The pregnancy test showed two red lines, one dark and one faint, but I didn’t think it was possible. I’m a man.”
At this, Dr. Meng, standing nearby, couldn’t resist interjecting with an explanation: “Men can get pregnant, though the probability is extremely low—even lower than having Rh-null blood. You’re that rare exception. All the test results clearly confirm your pregnancy.”
In modern society, male pregnancy is no longer considered extraordinary, merely statistically rare.
Neither Chu Yi nor Shen Jin had any experience in this matter. Even though they knew Chu Yi had been feeling unusually sleepy lately and his appetite wasn’t great, neither of them considered the possibility of pregnancy.
When Chu Yi saw the two red lines on the test, he was so stunned that he completely forgot to tell Shen Jin.
Now, hearing Dr. Meng confirm his pregnancy, Chu Yi’s mind went blank. He instinctively touched his stomach, realizing he was actually pregnant.
Shen Jin gripped Chu Yi’s hand, his voice trembling slightly. “Chu Yi, did you hear what Dr. Meng said? You’re pregnant.”
Dr. Meng explained that Chu Yi had fainted due to physical weakness and overexertion. Shen Jin immediately remembered Chu Yi mentioning helping his classmates move desks and chairs earlier, and how he had rushed out afterward. The more he thought about it, the more frightened he became.
Shen Jin suddenly recalled all the unusual changes in Chu Yi’s behavior: his appetite had noticeably decreased, he was eating less than before, and he had been feeling unusually sleepy. How could he have missed these signs? He should have taken Chu Yi to the hospital immediately. It was all his fault for being so careless.
Seeing Shen Jin’s solemn expression, Chu Yi’s heart sank. He wondered what Shen Jin was thinking. *Does Shen Jin not like children?* he asked softly. “Shen Jin, do you not want a baby?”
“What did you say?” Shen Jin turned sharply toward him, startling Chu Yi, who lowered his gaze.
Shen Jin’s heart tightened. “Chu Yi, do you not want one?” If Chu Yi said he didn’t want a baby, Shen Jin would understand, considering Chu Yi was still young.
He said gently, “Whatever you decide, I’ll support you.”
Chu Yi knew Shen Jin meant what he said. He murmured, “It’s you who doesn’t want a baby.”
Shen Jin immediately understood. He pulled Chu Yi into his arms, his voice urgent. “Of course I want one! I want you, and I want our baby.”
When Chu Yi looked up at Shen Jin, his eyes lit up. “Really?”
“Really,” Shen Jin affirmed.
Knowing Chu Yi was alright, Uncle Wen finally relaxed. He wasn’t just relieved; he was overjoyed. Chu Yi’s pregnancy was a momentous and joyous occasion for the Shen Family.
After waking up and being observed in the hospital for a while, Chu Yi was cleared to leave. He disliked the sterile environment.
Before leaving the hospital, Dr. Meng briefly explained some precautions to Shen Jin. He would visit the villa tomorrow for Chu Yi’s acupuncture session and provide more detailed instructions then.
Chu Yi hadn’t eaten much all day, and his stomach began to rumble loudly on the way home, alarming Shen Jin and Uncle Wen.
It was understandable. Chu Yi had barely touched his dinner the previous night, vomiting it all up, and had spent hours at the hospital. Of course he was hungry.
With over twenty minutes left until they reached home, Shen Jin asked Uncle Wen to pull over. Chu Yi watched as Shen Jin got out and sprinted to a nearby convenience store. Less than two minutes later, Shen Jin returned, carrying a large bag of snacks.
Despite the sprint, Shen Jin’s breathing barely quickened.
He opened the bag. “Have a little something to tide you over. Don’t let yourself get too hungry.”
Chu Yi glanced at the overflowing bag, filled with a variety of snacks—all things he had eaten before. He wondered how Shen Jin had managed to gather so much in such a short time.
“I want yogurt,” Chu Yi said.
Shen Jin immediately pulled out a yogurt, inserted a straw, and handed it to Chu Yi.
As soon as they got home, Uncle Wen went straight to the kitchen to start dinner. “What would you like to eat, Chu Yi?”
“Anything is fine,” Chu Yi replied, then paused to think. “Uncle Wen, I’d prefer something light.”
Uncle Wen nodded understandingly. “Alright, then I’ll make you bird’s nest congee.”
This was during Chu Yi’s early pregnancy nausea, when he couldn’t tolerate strong smells or greasy foods. Uncle Wen went to the kitchen to prepare a light yet nutritious dinner for him.
Shen Jin and Chu Yi sat on the sofa, waiting. Under the lamplight, Chu Yi’s face still looked pale, and upon closer inspection, one could notice his jawline had become slightly thinner. Shen Jin asked him, “Have you not been eating properly these past few days?”
Chu Yi had initially thought he was fine, but Shen Jin’s question, filled with concern, suddenly made him feel wronged. His nose stung, and his eyes instantly reddened.
“I don’t want to eat anything,” Chu Yi said, his voice tinged with grievance. “Everything I try makes me want to throw up.”
Chu Yi had even wondered if he might have contracted some incurable disease.
Shen Jin pulled him into a hug, his voice low and soothing. “It’s my fault. I didn’t notice sooner and didn’t take good care of you.”
Chu Yi looked at him. Shen Jin gently stroked his cheek, his voice filled with tenderness, “You’ve been through so much these past few weeks.”
He could vividly imagine Chu Yi’s panic and fear.
Hearing Shen Jin’s words, Chu Yi’s heart softened. At the hospital, he had worried that Shen Jin didn’t want the child, but now, when Shen Jin spoke of the baby, his eyes were filled with warmth and anticipation.
Chu Yi playfully whined, “It was so hard, so uncomfortable.”
Shen Jin cupped Chu Yi’s face. “Chu Yi, from now on, you must tell me about every discomfort, no matter how small, okay?”
Today’s incident had nearly scared him to death.
Uncle Wen quickly prepared bird’s nest porridge. The porridge was light and mild, with no strong smells to upset Chu Yi. He ate it slowly, spoonful by spoonful, reassuring Shen Jin and Uncle Wen.
After finishing the bowl, Chu Yi still felt a little hungry. He looked at Shen Jin. “I want more.”
Shen Jin took the bowl to the kitchen and soon returned with another serving of bird’s nest porridge. Chu Yi’s appetite was a good sign; they had been worried he wouldn’t want to eat at all.
Chu Yi finished two bowls of porridge, finally feeling full.
Only after Chu Yi had eaten his fill did Shen Jin and Uncle Wen have their own dinner.
Concerned that the smell of cooking oil might upset Chu Yi, Uncle Wen simply boiled two bowls of plain noodles. When good things happen, people feel refreshed. Shen Jin ate the clear broth noodles as if they were a feast, his smile never fading.
Even the household staff could sense Mr. Shen was in an exceptionally good mood. Just two hours earlier, when he had carried Chu Yi out of the house, his expression had been so dark that anyone who dared approach him would have faced dire consequences.
But when they returned, Mr. Shen’s earlier gloom had completely vanished.
Now that Chu Yi was pregnant, Shen Jin was even more determined to keep him from sleeping alone. He insisted Chu Yi move into his room permanently and had all of Chu Yi’s belongings transferred that very night.
Chu Yi sat on a chair, craning his neck to remind him, “My headphones, my laptop, and my tablet too.”
Shen Jin gathered everything. “I haven’t forgotten. But shouldn’t you be limiting your screen time now?”
Chu Yi pouted. “You just said I should do whatever I want, and now you’re telling me to cut back on computer use?”
Shen Jin chuckled and ruffled his hair.
When Chu Yi went to take a bath, Shen Jin cautioned him to be careful, reminded him not to lock the door, and told him to call for help if needed.
If Shen Jin hadn’t vehemently objected, he probably would have insisted on bathing Chu Yi himself.
Chu Yi laughed. “I didn’t know you could be such a nag!” He seemed even more long-winded than Uncle Wen.
Shen Jin clicked his tongue. Chu Yi said, “But I actually quite like hearing you nag.” All that nagging was just Shen Jin’s way of showing he cared.
When Chu Yi came out of the shower, Shen Jin was already there with the hairdryer, gently and meticulously drying his hair.
Later, as they lay in bed, Shen Jin held Chu Yi close, coaxing him to sleep.
Chu Yi touched his stomach, still marveling at the fact that he was really pregnant. Shen Jin asked anxiously, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell again?”
Chu Yi looked up at him. “I just find it so magical and unbelievable that there’s a little life growing inside me.”
Shen Jin kissed his forehead softly. “Chu Yi, thank you.”
Chu Yi, still clueless, asked, “Why is my stomach still so flat? It’s not showing at all.”
A large, warm hand gently caressed his belly. Shen Jin chuckled softly, “It’s still early. It’ll become noticeable soon enough.”
Chu Yi hummed in understanding, yawned, and quickly drifted off to sleep. The moment he lay down, he felt overwhelmingly sleepy.
Shen Jin, however, gazed at him with burning intensity. No one could know how thrilled and overjoyed he felt at that moment. He carefully tightened his embrace around Chu Yi, pressing him closer, and kissed his cheek.
